I do understand that every (base) ROM comes with its very own radio firmware.
And none, AFAIK, is modding it as it's tightly tied to the GSM/CDMA/3G stuff.
But which one is good for a v2.2.1 based ROM working in Europe?
Or, even better, why not adding some lean documentation to each RADIO?
There isn't really a best 'one size fits all' you have to try them all and see which one is best for you.
I've been flipping from .44 to .48 over the past few weeks, other people say .47 is the best, it really depends on your phone, ROM, service provider and their coverage etc.
It only takes a couple of minutes to flash a different radio so go flashing...!

I don't think you are right.
I know that some radios come from other markets/areas and have never been pushed in Europe. And vice versa.
Moreover, testing that way takes much more time than the couple of minutes needed to flash them. You need to test handover among BTSs, roaming, Sim Toolkit stuff, incoming and outgoing SMSs and MMSs and so on. And in the meanwhile maybe you also need your phone.
For example, at the moment my radio (32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2) is giving me troubles with my ROM (Froyo 2.2.1 - DeFrost 6.0a) in 3G, while works just fine in 2G.
Is there anyone with some good feedback for Europe/Italy with the various radios?

Look, what beanbean50 said about radios is true - there really isn't a 'one-size-fits-all' radio. Some people, depending on their location (and network provider, signal strength and which wireless radios they use frequently), experience better battery life with different radios.
For example, I flashed the new 5.11.05.27 radio the yesterday, and my battery life dropped like a stone, but signal strength was amongst the best I have seen with different radios. To some people, signal strength is more important than battery life. To me, battery life is more important - so this new radio wouldn't do.
The radio you are using (32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2) is the radio of choice for some, but if you are experiencing issues with it, i would recommend you try the 5.11.05.14, which is also recommended by many (including me) for its all round performance.
You were correct in suggesting that it takes longer than a couple of minutes to test a radio, but not everybody uses features such as SIM-Tooklit (me, for example). If SIM-Toolkit didn't work properly in a new radio, but everything else worked fine, it wouldn't matter to me - its all about preference.
The only way to find out the best radio for you is to try some different ones. What's the worst that could happen (assuming you follow the correct flashing procedures and minimize your chances of bricking)?
Josh.
I had thought about getting one for the G1, but I kinda forgot about it.
I remembered just now that it would be nice to have one now that I have a new phone, but I wouldn't mind knowing if any of you guys have any experiences and recommendations of a good FM transmitter that I can use.
I found one on Amazon with mostly good reviews, but it seems that most of them are for the Hero, G1, MT3G and Droid. So I'm a bit apprehensive about just buying it without researching first.
Here's the one I'm looking at:
http://www.amazon.com/Advanced-System-Transmitter-Charger-ANDROID/dp/B002UKTABI
If there are cheaper or better quality FM transmitters, please let me know.
Thanks!
I'd wait on this. It appears that an FM receiver AND transmitter is in the chipset capabilities of the G2, but the question is did they connect an antenna to it. It just got eMMC perma-root, so hold on a week or so--custom ROMs, possibly with this capability, are on their way.
Sweet. I didn't think an FM transmitter could be added within a ROM. That would be awesome!

It can't, but the FM transmitter is already there, so we just need to get software to support it.
If I recall correctly, the Nexus One had the same theoretical capabilities based on it's hardware, however, at this point nobody has taken advantage if it there either :-(

Don't we just need a kernel module and some userland software to interface with it?
Wanted to know if anyone has looked into this any further.

It needs not only kernel module (drivers) and userland interface, but also framework support as well. This is similar to A2DP audio redirection to bluetooth. The kernel has to be able to communicate with the audio device, the framework has to be able to redirect the audio there, and the user has to be able to configure and enable/disable it. It's a big project.

IIRC, the MIUI team was working on FM transmission as well.
if u install the desire z rom which is sense u can use the fm radio with the wired headset plugged in on the g2. Tried, done and works

They are talking about an FM Transmitter not Receiver Richierich... Yes FM Receiver works fine on CM and Desire roms but we want the Transmitter so we can send audio to the car radio.
AT&T limiting speeds for pre-Release 6 devices (all but iPhone 4) - can we emulate?
Read this -> http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/23/atandts-brewing-hsupa-gate-the-inside-story/
Basically, AT&T is licking Apple's butt so clean, that Apple is having bowel problems.
Should/could we look into emulating the Release-6 handshake to enable faster speeds for our devices?
Important part from the article:
That feature -- also known as EDCH, or FDD Enhanced Uplink -- was added in Release 6. Though AT&T is apparently working on permitting the bulk of its handsets to handshake Release 6, presently only the iPhone 4 (and presumably all of its recent data devices like USB modems, which may also use Release 7) are allowed. Neither we, nor our source, know why this is.

Any i9000 ROM fixes it.
This can already be bypassed on our Captivates by using an i9000 (or i9010/i9088) reoriented kernel + appropriate modem.

But the majority of those modems make bluetooth unusable (full of static). Bluetooth can be a necessity if you drive.

Bt works fine when modem parties with i9000 kernel
not true with the serendipity my bluetooth works perfectly and my speeds are 3.45Mb down and 1.54mb up which is just as fast as any iphone 4 testing right next to it
BT is working fine for me on paragon as well as gps.

Ah, glad to see XDA once again stepped up to fix Sammy's problems.
Didn't know that i9000 kernels fix this.
Still kinda sad that AT&T would have the restriction there in the first place. For stock users' sake.
Sucks that you'd spend $500+ for a flagship device, and still feel like a second-grade customer that's not appreciated.
Amen, if the devs didn't make my phone work I would be selling it in ebay
Ok now I live in the middle of nowhere (Crystal River, FL - look it up) and i get easily 2.0-3.0mbps down and 1.0-1.5mbps up with an I9000 rom and kernel with perfect BT thanks to Mikey's Serendipity...
Now while i do think Sammy is complete BS with the whole way they handled all of their Galaxy S lineup phones, would i buy another? Hell yes! Why? I have had a few WinMo and Android phones so far and these phones without a doubt are the EASIEST to tweak, hack, modify...you name it...you can do it...you can easily go with a custom rom or build your own or even smash the two together
they absolutely are not blocking hsupa at the towers. it is simply not included at the phone, run a non captivate rom and modem.bin with a i9000/m/i9010 kernel and you will get 100% the speed that an iphone 4 gets in the same area, i know several iphone 4 users and have done back to back speed tests and there is no advantage to the iphone what so ever

not true, the modem makes that happen on att or rogers roms, change the rom to a/an i9000/m, i9088, i9010, t959/d, and the kernel to i9000 or i9010 and you will not have issues
I've tried to do a binary comparison with hope that its apparent whats different between a HSUPA modem.bin and our Captivate modem.bin...LOL...not a good tactic. I wish there was a way to reverse engineer the modem and make the necessary changes.
I don't even have 3g in my area yet, but saw this in the new user guide that they just posted today and thought I would post it here.

I'm so glad I didn't pre-order the Atrix. I played with the Atrix in the store on Monday and it was laggy and underwhelming. My flashed captivate blew it out of the water. I thought the screen on my captivate was better also. I also did the speed test and it was pitiful and there is nothing they can do about it with it being locked down. My next phone is going to be the Galaxy 2.
Now that I have s-off, I'm wondering what rom is everyone using? I'm mainly looking for speed, but I do like the sense 3.0 lockscreen.
Any thoughts?

Close to stock, but rooted and tweaked for performance.
Plus, the developer inspires confidence in me, somehow...

But of course!
However, why not have some fun in the meantime, once the original image is backup-ed with clockworkmod?
Theoretically - it should do no harm, that cannot be undone.
Have fun, if flashing constantly with new ROMs is fun for you!

+1. As long as BT A2DP works.
I want CM7 something or other. I'd love to see a AOSP on this thing. Its such a beast of a phone. All the extra goodies, overclocking, and other stuff that's packed in. Hopefully we get a CM7 on it.
The rom (leedroid) I just flashed on my T-Mobile USA doesn't support RX diversity for the GSM network. So that means your reception will be poorer especially when traveling (mostly all GSM for us T-Mobile users) I tried to deathgrip it and unlike on the stock T-Mobile USA rom, my bars just stayed at 1 instead of switching to the antenna at the top of the phone and bringing me back to 2-3 bars. No RX diversity on 4G from what I can tell. Wait for something that is specifically for T-Mobile USA Sensation 4G users so we can have WiFi calling and RX diversity.
Is there any ROM out here that supports Wifi-Calling yet?
i noticed none of the devs here are from the US.. when will we get a rom optimized for tmous sensation 4g?
I am sure we will see some sick roms in the next few days.
I currently have a sgs2, ordered a sensation with att 3g bands today. I'm so excited that I can get s-off when I receive my sensation and flash different roms
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
LeeDroid's ROM seems sick Its tempting to try it out but I see some posting that there is a bit of lag . Oh well, let's give our devs some time to cook up some great roms
Eugene373 should be cooking up something soon.. Can't wait.
sorry for the stupid question but when trying to flash a recovery via rom manager i cannot locate my phone model through the phone list. i assume there is something i missed or i have to wait for the sensation to be added to the list ??
Sorry for the noob question ive been reading around and havent gotten a clear answer, any help is appreciated and thanked
I am waiting for CM7 or MIUI (preferably).
Is CM7 rom the only rom that offer nightly built? Why aren't all rom doing this?

I may be reading your post wrong but I think your very confused on what Diversity is. It is nothing built into your handset. ALL PHONES WHETHER GSM, UMTS, CDMA, WCDMA, LTE, WiMAX OR WHATEVER SUPPORT DIVERSITY RX. In fact, it's not even a function of your phone. Diversity RX has NOTHING to do with your handset whatsoever!!! You do NOT have 2 antenna's. Diversity is at the cell site. Diversity is having 2 receive antenna's on a tower that are a part of a single sector (there are typically 3 sectors per tower, but can be more depending on the RF design). Anyways, how to put diversity in easy terms. So when your phone is registered on a sector, that sector will have 2 different receive paths originating from 2 different antenna's. What this does is allows the cell site to determine which path has the best (not to be mistaken with strongest, best means best quality) receive path for your phone and then utilizes that path. It's for quality.
Again, you DO NOT have separate antenna's in our cell. Whatever test you trying, is a fluke. Even if you had those, which you don't, that information would be written into the radio image, NOT the OS.
I've had my HTC Inspire for about 2 years and I've finally replaced it with a new phone. I was thinking about using my Inspire as a music player in the car. Are there any ROMs that people recommend that would be light weight, minimal features, and good for what I want it to do, especially for my aging battery?
Thanks in advance.

tons of options on roms but I don't know that it needs a rom for it... I use mine for music A LOT with a good set of cans (big headphones) and my IME's depending on what i'm doing... I can say that when I flashed to a few of the jellybean roms that my sound quality went to crap... I ended up going back to a stock ICS rom and am happy
if the stock player works for you it would be easy enough to just keep the phone plugged in and use it as is, pick up a big SD card and enjoy your music
Any CM 7.2 variant would give you the best sound quality & battery life

Yeah, I was using CM10.1 and it burned through battery pretty fast. I think I'll give an older CM version a try. Thanks!
