Does anyone else get prompted to accept/decline visual voice mail EVERY single time you get a voice-mail? How many times must I decline?? I don't want to pay for this thing and I've never had it forced in my face so many times with other Verizon phones.
Oh, it asks me after I check my voicemail and delete whatever I had in there, too. Ridiculous.
Download Google Voice, set it up. This was you avoid Verizon voicemail completely, get the same features, and its free.
I honestly don't even care about the features (I've used GV before). I just need this prompt to not be coming up twice every single time I get a VM. Did you hit "accept"? I always hit reject (since I don't want to use it).
Don't know. I use Verizon VVM multiple times a day and it never prompts me.
Did you maybe freeze/debloat something?

Same here - no issues or constant reminders... I do pay for vvm however and like the service...

So you subscribe to the service then? I'd assume it wouldn't prompt you if you already have the service.

Premium visual voice mail is the only paid part..... You can get basic visual for free. And actually it's supposed to be used on all smartphones now. Cuts down on the calls on the cell site.
Personally I use google voice because I don't run out of space and get texts sent to me transcribed but I have been doing that for ten years about.
For people who don't want to go through the setup of gv visual is offered free for basic.
Easier to check anyway don't know why you wouldn't want it xD

I didn't realize there were two different ones - I thought it was always a paid service and kept declining for that reason.
Thank you for clarifying!

Haven't ever used AT&T's visual voicemail app. I always use Google Voice. What do you mean by Google Voice using minutes? Google Voice doesn't use any minutes when used for voicemail.
Everytime a voice mail is forwarded to google voice its causes 1 minute of anytime minutes to be burned 4 most people would not be a problem on 100 phone calls a month my wife however recieves between a hundred and two hundred phone calls a day with for job

The best part was when we were trying to figure out the magic number it was not my wife's google voice number but more of a generic google voice number as soon as we remove google voice her anytime minutes stop flying off the shelf I have the sky rockets in the visual voicemail works fine I have tried to install it on her infuse but it says it is incompatible best I can figure is that maybe it will work with a gingerbread rom my wife is against root she will be on board if I know I can get her visual voicemail without running out of minutes

I am not sure how true this is. I got a couple of vmails in the last few days on gvoice, and I don't have any minutes showing up as used.
GOOGLE VOICE... And done.
They even send you emails. Awesome, because sometimes I forget to install the app. And can get voicemails on tablet too. It's sweet.

Did you read my POST? I had google voice. I agree works great. Love it.
Problem is that everytime it forwards to google voice. It trips one minute
of my anytime (land line) minutes.
My wife gets 100's of calls a day. I can't use a call forwarding visual voice mail.
That is why I asked if anyone had successfuly used att voice mail app on a gingerbread rom. I am hoping that is the reason I can't install on her stock phone.
I have the app from my sky rocket running 2.3.5(6) and ICS 4.03 Leak

First of all, stay cool. People are only trying to help. Sometimes they might miss to read the sentence well.
You can't set up AT&T visual voice mail on your phone. I got the note that has vvm enabled on it. I put the SIM in with the AT&T cust care followed by a person from tech dept for over 45 mins with no use. It refused to work. And yes, it needs to be enabled on the network by AT&T rep, not just on phone.
For Note and Skyrocket, they enable it when you upgrade or change the phone to that. And though it was enabled on Note, it just refused to get set up on my Infuse..
Second, my wife and I use GV a lot. And unless its calls, vmails never used any of our anytime minutes.
Thanks. And I apollagize. Check your bill. The call forward uses anytime minutes. One per missed call. Not noticeable for most. And we even missed it 1st month. But then her work got crazy and so did her phone and surprise 600 anytime minutes in 5 days.
Again thanks for detailed response.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
Kawy is correct, I have YouMail and checked my bill last night... Sure enough there are logs for call forwards at a rate of one minute. Not a big deal for me, I have thousands of roll over minutes (15K+) and a 2100 minute a month plan. I own a business and receive several dozen calls a day, I don't miss many though, but I can see how if you miss a few hundred a month how that can be a rip off.
I saw a file on the htc vivid forum that enables att visual voice mail on all GB and ics roms... Maybe you want to check that out.

Until now, I still don't understand why Android doesn't have a built-in features for missed calls/sms and reject list to auto decline unwanted calls. My old Galaxy S Fascinate has the reject list feature but not in my Galaxy Nexus.
And I used to use Missed Call Reminder but it doesn't work with Jelly Bean. Sigh! JB is awesome but these simple, yet crucial, features are either missing or hard to find ones that work.
Especially the missed call/SMS features, this is a no brainer feature that even a standard cell phone has it. IOS has it, why Android can't just have it built-in. I just don't get it.
Thoughts anyone?
Ken
Pretty much everyone I know uses the LED notification light for missed calls and texts, since that's what it was made to do.
I personally don't get calls I don't want, but if you like to post your number online and not pay your bills, there are many, many apps available to block calls for you. Or hell, MIUI has it built in. Take your pick.
So what was the problem again?

I don't know it for sure. but my guess is Apple probably has it patented? From what I understand Google has to deliberately workaround many design challenges so that Android doesn't violate Apple's patents
Apple just filed another lawsuit against Samsung trying to get 22 more phones banned for patent violations. Sigh.

yeah, you could be right. If that's true, then this is yet another ridiculous patent that got passed. Prior to smartphones, every cell phones have these basic features. Sigh.
I understand the Galaxy Nexus has led indicator but I don't usually stare at my phone all day. So I'm used to hearing a reminder tone of any missed call or text. I guess I just have to wait until developers get up to speed with Jelly Bean.

Hey buddy read my orig. post, I've tried already. Example, I used to use Missed Call Reminder but like most other apps that are similar, it doesn't work with Jelly Bean. The LED part works, but no tone. Feel free to educate me with ones that works with tone notification.
As per the reject call feature, I end up using the contact list method and send them to voicemail. Not 100% whether this method will cost me some minor air time or not but these solicited calls will hang up by itself, as most of these calls use an auto-dialer. It will only transfer to a live agent if the dialer detects a real human voice, as suppose to a voicemail recording. Not as good as just decline the call completely but it will do for now.

Yes I have but after I read the terms and condition, I don't feel comfortable using it. This app will take all your contacts and store them into their server. Even the paid version does this too. It seems like a very powerful app but I'm not willing to sacrifice my personal information for this feature. I've looked at others and they work similar way. All I want is a similar app that identifies the phone of incoming call and compare it to a local rejected list of numbers. If it matches, then just decline the call. I'm not a developer but I can't imagine that this would be very tough.

I've heard both sides make that argument. I'm Android through & through, but apple makes a compelling ecosystem. People always say "It just works..." but at what cost? There are apps for everything in both IOS & Android worlds, but as far as I'm concerned, there's less big brother restricting what I can do with my android. Sure, there's some more work at times, but it's completely worth the effort not to be stuck with someone else deciding what apps I can install, and how I have to use my phone.

I know I feel stuck when I get a phone with carrier branded apps that I can't remove. Do you see a difference between these two practices? It seems to me if one wants full control of their phone, one must jailbreak or root. Do you agree or disagree?
Just curious as to how my incoming calls are displaying caller ID. For example after placing an order with 1800 contacts, they had to call me to verify something and their name popped up on the caller ID. I don't have them saved in my contacts. And I also have the caller ID app disabled.
Is there some other new feature in this phone I am not aware of? Or is this some trial thing that is going to expire?
Thanks in advance
I noticed that on mine too (and I made sure NEVER to open the caller ID app as I read even opening it would trigger a free trial followed by a monthly charge without asking). Let's hope this isn't some kind of setup to charge us next month and say 'well your free trial we didn't even ask you about expired'.
That would be crappy. Glad I'm not the only one noticing it.
So I also disabled google music. I know there is this 6 month free trial of all access. Does that start from date of phone activation or can I wait until winter when I'll use it more?

As far as I'm aware you have to manually opt in to the Play Music All Access trial. Play Music itself is a free service, you can upload your own mp3s and stream them, All Access is Google's Spotify competitor and you can ignore it entirely even if you're using Play Music's other features.
i believe you can cancel the day you sign up for all access, you will still have your access for 6 months but wont be billed at 6 months.

If it's anything like the version on my bionic as long as you don't open the caller id app never starts the trial and keeps working. If you accidentally start the trial just clear app data. Been using it for nearly 2 years without getting charged.
But they may have fixed things in the newer version.

Oh really! You got me really excited! That would be nice! The verizon rep couldnt answer my question. The app is frozen so its strange how caller ID still works...
This is my first HTC device and the first time on Verizon, coming from the nexus line. So far, of course loving the build quality! So, so, so good! But my question is very simple and just an annoyance, maybe there's nothing to fix this. Group messaging works perfect, nothing wrong with it, its just every time I click on the conversation it says converting to MMS, I don't care that its doing that, but the message that pops up every time is starting to annoy me... Is there any fix for this? Couldn't find anything in the settings

Not the Verizon one, but stock one that comes with HTC. I'm use to hangouts cause coming from nexus and I didn't mind that at all. Reason I'm not using the Verizon messaging app is cause the rep at Verizon was messing with my phone while the number was being ported and basically setting it up for me cause he has an m8, said he was saving me a few headaches

More likely that VZW rep is responsible for your current headache!
Go back to the store and ask what he messed up!
So apparently AT&T does not support Google's native visual voicemail feature. As it stands right now, I'm stuck between choosing a third-party VM app or long pressing #1 like I'm on a flip-phone. I came from iPhone for a while, but I was excited to get back to Android. I know it's a bit of a trivial concern at this point, but it's got me contemplating returning my Pixel. Does anyone know of a workaround/solution for this issues? Thanks.

Dang, all I did was install the app and it just started working. I do have the verizon pixel 3 but I would not think that would change anything.
It's working fine on my phone.
After two hours with tech support's escalated staff, they finally got it fixed. They had to "switch the VVM from iPhone to Android"...I told them from the beginning that was what I was trying to do. Frustrating, but oh well, I expect nothing less from AT&T. Still bugs me that they won't allow Google's native VVM to be used, but oh well.
