Lg V10 manual video test - LG V10 General

here is my first quick test i ve did with my lg v10, using cinema size in manual mode, and test the manual focul.
simply amazing quality, this is what i ve been looking for to have in a smartphone since years!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jW2u_KSen8

Now that looks like a delicious ice-cream
Thanks for the upload mate, indeed nice OIS and focus performance.
But what I'm wondering is the other options mainly shutter speed; I'm not really deep into photography but using a Lumia for over 2 years I know how useful manual controls are for photos. But I just don't understand how you can change shutter speed in a video; isn't that a function which may only have a meaning while taking photos? Isn't the "shutter" open all the time while recording a video thus changing shutter speed while recording actually means nothing?
Thanks in advance if one can enlighten me. For instance can you make a test video while changing shutter speed on the fly?

Mmmm Ice-cream! Can you change the framerate to PAL (25 / 50fps)?

Thanks for checking.... no surprise really

That's pretty sharp. Can you do a 1080p test using OIS? The wobbles still bother me. I'm curious what OIS can do.

shutter speed, is the process that allow the light to go in the captor to every frame you record.
usually this process is automatic, now you can change the spdeed, meaning, if it s too dark you can add more light than auto mode would allow, and get better picture

4K Time Limit?
Is there a time limit on how long you can shoot 4K video? If so, what is it? Thanks.

I don't believe their may be one, if anything you would be more concerned about running out of memory space for the video than anything. These 1minute videos range from 600mb-1gig per file from a few shots I made.

Actually let me update you on that I don't want you to go off with wrong information here, but now that I notice It did say "5:00" minutes when I started recording in 4k , note, I don't know if it's because my memory card is only 32gb (aka memory max like I said) or if it's because that's really the max time you're allowed, Just a heads up! Also a 3minute video is 1GB so note worthy as well, not sure where I got other info I must have clicked the wrong videos

I thought it might be. I'll maybe try a few different camera apps if I decide to go with the phone. I think my Note 3 is 5 min. with the default camera, but I get up to 17 minutes with other apps.

When taking a photo in a street during the night with iso 50 and shutter speed of 1 second, car headlights produce light trails.
But when recording a timelapse (using 1 fps manual video and same iso and shutter speed as before) the resulting video does not have light trails.
Why is that? Does the shutter speed setting has different meaning for photo and video?

XT720 camera quality

Is there any way to improve camera? I had XT720 before a half year, picture quality was a horrible. Now with the custom ROM, brings step to improve quality?

I guess there have been no major changes to the camera. Actually the stock 2.1 camera is better than on any of the custom ROMS. Camera picture quality depends on the amount of light and the correct settings. I wouldn't describe it as horrible but you sure need to tweak everything to get a good picture.
I've attached some pictures I took recently. The first is using the macro setting. I was fixing my friends les pauls toggle switch and changing the pickups. A few flower and weird pod pictures. And the last one is of my place and the lawn outside. Maybe you guys can comment on the quality.
EDIT: Im on WanHU's rom stock with these photo's.
As per my experience, the phone is great with macro mode shots but when it comes to landscape photography it doesn't provide quality snaps. They are average just like the ones taken with my old Nokia N85 ( 5MP camera)
Here are few samples taken with XT720.
I find the camera performs pretty well here... On ESB (2.1) right now.
I'm going to chime in here and say I get great pictures with this phone - though there is a slight delay - so shooting my son on the run is hard (he's gone when it snaps!). Though I don't always shoot on automatic, and I hold the button to allow it to focus. I do get a lot of red-eye, but software can fix that (though, the software makes my son's eyes black, and they are blue )
I came to ask about the recording aspect and am hi-jacking this newer thread - what about that? I'm now running RusMod 1.9 with the US/Eng patch and am still getting the noise/lines in the recording. Here is an example of a bad one;
Can't post links yet.. check Henzod on Youtube
But I don't always get it...
Can't post links yet.. check Henzod on Youtube - Poncho video
(Don't laugh, it was just a test video lol)
Is there an alternate Camera.apk to install or something else to fix to get this working again?

I get shutter lag also, but only really on the first shot when loading up the camera. Once the camera is loaded up properly, snapping pictures is actually surprisingly fast for me.

I did some research on that. It isnt the camera loading up but the xenon flash charging. If you take pictures in conditions where flash is not required it happens instantly. Apparently the xenon gas has to be at a specific charge for the flash to work

Well, I find the camera useless for taking photos of my daughter because of the lag and that's all I really cared about camera-wise, so I'm not too pleased with the camera performance. It's too slow to capture spontaneous things.

No, what I mean is you press the shutter and the phone contemplates its navel for a few seconds and she's moved already. So you're cajoling her to smile at the camera and she finally does and you hit the trigger and watch as she moves out of frame/closes her eyes whatever before the photo gets taken.

To an extent I find that's true of most low/mid point & shoot cameras. For quick camera response nothing beats the dSLR with a fast lens but that's not always available.

Okay, but it's got a promised 8 MP camera, which actually takes great shots if the subject is still life and a lot of the slowdown is not the xenon flash (though, as noted above, some is, understandably - though xenon was a selling point...) but the software itself. This has been demonstrated over and over with the updates we get to the ROMs - some are better at photos and video, some are worse.
Still - why do my videos look so horrible while there are demo videos on YouTube that look amazing?
I was reading a review the other day and I saw the reviewer mention that getting a better SD card can improve HD video recording (which has often lagged). I saw a comment by Motorola on a youtube video saying the same thing.
I'm sure this has come up before, but I can't remember the conclusion. Does a better SD card provide improvements?

Yep. A better SD card obviously has a higher Class (like yourself). And as we all know the higher the Class the faster it reads/writes to the card. The faster the r/w the better the quality of fps and output. I have a 32gb Class 10 card and 16gb Class 6 card and to tell you the truth, I really don't see too much of a difference as far as Pix go. Video on the other hand is a whole different ball of wax. I get way better video on the C10. Don't forget the SDcards they come with are garbage, Class 2's. Take a C2 and compare with a C4 or C6 and it is apples to oranges.
I'll try out my class 4 (but only 4gb) SD card soon. If I do notice better camcorder quality maybe I'll have to consider spending a few bucks for a better SD card... Though I don't know about a 32gb class 10. I looked at the prices for something like that in my nearby electronics chain and they charge about $150 for that lol. I might as well save that money for a new phone.

[Q] Touch to Focus / Tap to Focus

Hi Everyone. I'm thinking of purchasing a Google Nexus 5 phone but I'm concerned about the video, which is one of the main features I'm looking for in a phone.
I've seen test video of the Nexus 5 and the LG G2 which it is loosely based on as I understand it. Both of these phones have pretty serious "focus hunting" problems when recording video. I don't know if it's because of the optical image stabilization or just a software issue but to me at least, that's unacceptable.
I could not verify by searching anywhere online and in forums if the Nexus 5 has a Touch to Focus or sometimes called a Tap to Focus feature for the video recorder or not. What I'm looking for is the ability to turn off auto-focus and just be able to touch the area on the screen where I want the camera to focus IN REAL-TIME as I'm video recording.
Can anyone tell me if this camera has that feature? If it doesn't, is there an app I can buy that will give me this feature? I know there is an App called Snap Camera HDR I believe, but I can't determine if that app can do this either.
Thanks!
Steve in Chicago, Illinois

Well that's great but can you verify whether or not the phone has the manual focus feature I was referring to (Touch to Focus / Tap to Focus) and if you can manually focus in real-time while recording video repeatedly?
Thanks.
If you tap the screen when video is recording it takes a picture. So I'm going to say no tap to focus. At least nothing I can see on mine.

Yes, that's precisely what I was afraid of. Too bad. I'm an amateur videographer and am particular about video and video that constantly goes in and out of focus in some scenes is unusable to me. Do you know if there are settings to control the auto-focus? For example, some smart phone video camera apps allow you to set the focus to fixed infinity, rather than auto-focus. That way you can shoot your distance and wide angle shots set that way, then set it back to auto-focus for close-ups and macro shots.

After doing some research, it appears there are Android apps that will do what I'm looking for. In particular, this one seems to work with the Nexus 5 specifically:
Snap Camera HDR
Has anyone tried this app?
And one more thing please. I've never owned a smartphone before. Since this phone has no memory card and only 16 GB of internal memory probably of which only 12 is available for apps, how do you get the video and pictures out of the phone into a PC?
Thanks!
Either cloud storage or just plug it in to usb and copy it to computer. I would recommend the 32gb model especially if you're going to be shooting video.

Slow motion video from S6 - very disappointing

I've tried multiple times to capture slow motion video. While recording, I can see that the image skips and sticks. Sure enough, when I play it back the skips and stutters are in the video itself. This makes slo motion unusable if it's not smooth. My S5 did a pretty good job at with slow motion. I think the resolution was better as well. Really disappointing to find yet another feature that is worse on the S6.
Example: https://vid.me/wbYs[1]
Even worse, and it shows how out of sync the audio is: https://vid.me/zx5i[2]
And it's not just me. I can see it in this person's clip that starts around :25 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9srWjFM-OQ [3]

Thanks for the sample. hat is the best S6 slow motion video I have seen. I didn't see any jump in frames. The worst thing about it is the resolution, but at least it's smooth.
I know that some S6s have different camera sensors. No one has even considered that it could cause anything like this (only slight color variation, etc.). So, hopefully it's a software issue that will get fixed. Not gonna hold my breath though.
Ya YouTube kills the quality some too. I think I recorded that at 720p though since 720 has 240 fps capture to 1080s 120.

Hmm, I thought 1080p could only do 60fps (and that's set in the video settings, not in "slow motion mode"). Whenever I select slow motion mode, the resolution automatically changes to 720p (and it doesn't really tell you that).

For all those who are dissapointed with slow mo quality and feel like throwing away your Samsung and cursing it like hell, here's the solution:
1. Record ur slow mo
2. Open the video
3. Hold and press down the highlighted slow mo part i.e between the sliders.. you will see a pop up which shows a rectangular trim box and 1/8.
4. Select 1/8 and you will see 1/2,1/4 and 1/8 options..
5. Now select 1/4 and play the video
Tadaaaa!! now you have epic slow mo video!!

We're not talking about the loss of frame rate or anything else like that, we're talking about the 720p resolution, and all the little bits of artifacts that are in the video after we record them at 120 frames per second.

[APP] FiLMiC Pro - [email protected] FRONT CAMERA / [email protected] MAIN CAMERA VIDEO

So I was looking for a solid video recording app and stumbled across this, if you want a manual video app you will be more than happy as the controls are amazing. To achieve these surprising video setups simply press the settings toggle and select Resolution, bump it all the way up. Make sure the FPS and the playback FPS is at 30 and do not change any of the Exposure/ISO options. Now that is done I have found that in low light conditions the FPS may go down just a bit, around 2FPS, which is not that much off a difference. I have tried different combinations but it seems that 42FPS is the limit for all resolutions which is very sad as we still do not have [email protected] in 2018 . But overall this is amazing, the front camera shocked me the most, it not only unlocked a super high resolution it also comes with a very nice FPS. Some bad things are that the zoom is not very good on the viewfinder at all (but is alright in the actual video) compared to other video camera apps and it does cost alot of money for an app (around $13 USD), but the features it brings make it more than worth it .
I am using Cosmic OS 3.1 Oreo 8.1 unofficial with official Gapps and I haven't tried this on any other ROM.

Well, it is not for everyone. I took the plunge and I have checked my videos metadata and gone through frame by frame to see if their is just duplicates and to my surprise it is true 42FPS with the super high resolution. My friend has a LG V10 and the customization on this camera app is very comparable to his, which is very good. The quality of what this app produces is mind-blowing, it makes any low light shot look super. I know what you mean, this price is way too high for any app, so I would only recommend this app to proper enthusiasts. The typical user wouldn't really care or notice the bumped up pixels and FPS.

If you want I can upload some examples

How did you get 42FPS in video recording..i only get 30FPS or below in 1080p/4k mode.. and max 120FPS in 720p. that too in slow mo..couldnt get 60/50/42 fps in any video quality option....

Bump up the fps in 4K all the way up to 30fps and make sure the playback speed it the same, record your video with auto exposure, then you can check what real fps output (should be around 45fps in good light) is using this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roryhool.videoinfoviewer&hl=en
It should work in Oreo ROMs, but I dont know if it will work on Nougat.

Wow nice app, mate. Do you have any camera app for taking photo which is better than GCMod5?

Well so far this Google HDR algorithm is so good, literally no other photo app can compare it it. So what I recommend is BSG's new Gcam, it provides so much customization to get the perfect picture, especially with the new auto shutter speed version - as the Le Max 2 has a limited measly shutter speed of half a second, this is merges photos with the limited shutter speed giving out a much nicer image. Although front camera portraits and HDR have that annoying Green filter, but i mostly use my main camera only so for me this is what I use the most.

I find that while Serjo87 Gcam's are very good Toylan009 Gcam's are more stable and have no green tint aswell.

I'm try this app but camera stop. Error
That app is way too pricey for what the end user gets. Also, I am unsure that our phone supports more than 30 frames per second video recording. Do not waste your hard earned money.

Nope. It's worth it for the incredibly smooth zoom alone.
Too much to set the bitrate speed. Therefore the video takes up a lot of space.

Huawei P20 Pro - GPU Turbo Update (C432)

Yesterday I received the GPU Turbo Update on my Huawei P20 Pro, and I thought I may share my experience that I had with it so far and also make a list of things that changed with that update.
So far, I gotta say, GPU Turbo is amazing.
I tried it with the following games so far:
PUBG
Shadowgun Legends
Mobile Legends
War Robots
B. O. T.
All games run smoother than before, especially PUBG and Mobile Legends. Also, the device doesn't seem to get as hot as before when having longer gaming sessions, that was especially noticeable in War Robots.
Other things that have changed:
+ when filming in 960 fps: you can now choose between auto (start recording once the camera notices movement) and manual.
+ the font of the AOD (always on display) has been changed
If I notice more changes I'll make sure to post them here.

Edits:
the Antutu Score went up from 208.000 to 209.500
Thank you very much for your feedback.
And you feel any difference in ui smoothness?

Maybe a slight difference, hard to tell.
i wish you were able to choose when to slow down and sound pitch as iphone has.. that's cool. but 960fps on its own is cool 2

I don't even think these are true 960 fps.
I think the hardware is able to capture 120 fps max.
Almost sure the rest of the images gets computed by the NPU.
I still find it cool that Huawei was able to add such an amazing feature with a simple Software-Update.

Yes you are right, 480 and 960 is interpolated. Looks bad if you ask me, but most probably you don't
I am on C432 and I still haven't gotten any update. I feel all alone in this right now. Lol
Nah, don't. I haven't got it, my husband hasn't, it always takes a while to reach everybody

Thanks for this sanity-restoring comment you made. I was almost thinking that I didn't get it because I live in Africa (Nigeria precisely). ☺

.128 update perfect for camera shot with 40mp than .131 update. I was updated wrongly 1 month ago and I am not happy with 131 update. Camera oversharpness very bad and not performed new camera functions. How about gpu update? Rear camera fixed? I am not asking front camera because fixed and more beautiful than 131 update.

I don't have alot of problems with it.
Sometimes the camera tends to oversharp when it is dark, and / or you take pictures with 10 MP, but this has been a rare case for me so far with the latest update.

Thank you. Is this photo taken with 40mp? Very cool. I think it fixed. Please can you take a wide area photo (include tree and not focus front objects) with 40mp?

This photo was taken with 7 MP.
I dont have taken any photos like you described it so far, and it's dark outside right now.
Tho, I will still add a picture that has been shot with 40 MP.
I dont find any of the pictures I took with 40 MP to be over-sharpened btw.

OH my God. Really? 7mp?! Verrrry good. I think it is OK with new update :good:
The 960fps auto mode was present in 132 firmware as well.
Not sure if it is just my imagination, but I think that since the update the scrolling speed has been significantly reduced, ie if I check my Instagram feed and try to scroll quickly downwards it goes with less than half the speed with 152 update.. You just can't scroll fast enough anymore, maybe its an Instagram update? Dunno.
