My name is Alejandro Espino but I go by Sam. I want to know more about android. I want to know as much as my own brain is capable of knowing/understanding. If anyone is willing to collaborate with me, I would be very grateful. I'm a senior in high school and I love fixing stuff. I have bricked only one device, and cannot figure out how to fix it. I own a samsung sm-t217a (samsung galaxy tab 3 att lte) but i messed with the build prop file and basically destroyed it (the tablet still boots up and powers on, i messed with the build name, model numbers, etc. and when i rebooted, the root was said to be installed wrong). As of now, I am using my younger brothers Samsung Vibrant which I rooted and installed a custom lollipop rom with the aid of my friend that taught me a few things about how do mess with android. Hello all and right away I'd like to start with this. Please don't think of me like I don't want to do no work at all as you'll understand later on I did a lot of research but I am simply too confused and stuck to continue with confidence that I know 100% all nuances and details so I can do whatever I want successfully so if possible don't flame my questions too if possible
A Week ago I got a T-Mobile t959 Vibrant as a gift from someone and because I know pretty much everything about iphone and Android system is same if not more "hackable" I decided to do the tricks myself, I didn't know how much available, and I really love to keep this short and don't bored you with my lack of Android knowledge. Let me begin with complete spec so I possibly can get correct solution to my problem.
Unit: Samsung Galaxy S
Carrier: T-Mobile
Model: SGH-T959
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Baseband: T959UVJI6
Kernel: 2.6.29
Build number: ECLAIR.UVJI6
Manuf. Date: 10.10.2010
I think this should be enough info about my unit but if you need something else plz let me know.
Here are things I am trying to do and already did.
1. Root.
I Successfully Rooted my phone by using a tutorials I found on internet. I have Superuser icon in my apps list.
2. Unlock
I could not unlock my phone. Only tool I found that I can actually understand and complete instructions is SGS Unlock tool. It could not help me on both root and un-root ways. So I'll need help with this.
3. Update to latest version.
from what I understand there are custom builds available like Darkys 9.2 and it's collection of a lot of things that pretty much all in one deal. I almost tried to install it myself but I could not find home button on my Vibrant to go to download mode so I gave up.
4. Rest of cool stuff.
I really don't know guys but I am sure there is soo much for android I don't know. Just like when people come to me with iphone I offer so much I bet it's same with this. General tips I guess.
Well that's it guys. If possible please just tell me in few short words on how to do this things if possible may be some YouTube video or something cause I am soo confused with everything and that "Hold Home button" in instructions was last drop when I said "I don't even have home button on my phone, what am I doing"

1. Can I use ebay to order unlock code ?
2. Will phone remain unlock after I upgrade to 2.2 ?
3. Can I upgrade to 2.2 with Kies mini then root / unlock it ?

I just purchased SGS Unlock pro and it looks like it worked ! I don't have sim to test with but I think I did it. From what I understand it's same people who run this site, Thank you !

I used to have an OG Droid that I rooted, but it was just following the directions on Cyanogenmod. Now I have the Samsung Admire (btw, I hate Metro PCS) and I want to root it, however it appears that no one has rooted it yet. So I figured I would learn to do it myself, but I don't know where to start. So my question is, how does one go about learning how to root a phone? What skills do I need to have, etc. Hate not having a rooted phone. Thanks for any help!

before you make decision about root...please make sure that you will enjoy it..because as my experience, when you was root your phone, your journey in android has been start many problem (maybe) you will found..but for me, that's the challenge when I got try and error to make my phone just like what I want...
and please focus to learn all of tips and trick (not just in this forum) about how to root your phone..
finally, if you think all of your prepare was ready,,ROOT IT!!

Oh I definitely want to root. My last phone was rooted (was running CM7 at time of death) and I got spoiled, haha. I'm not looking so much how to root my specific phone (as far as I know, it hasn't been safely done yet), but how to manipulate the OS's vulnerabilities to become super user myself. I guess more from the dev standpoint. Kinda hard to get across what I'm looking for I guess.
I would like to know as well. I want to root the Admire BAD. It brings a lot of Metro crapware. LOL.
Hi all, I am a complete noob and have gotten myself into a big hole.
I was messing around with my galaxy s to root it and install roms, I followed all of the instructions but I think something went wrong in the back up process and had no esf file any where. Now I have a phone that is stuck in flight mode and have been using it as an iPod basically.
I did this about 6 months ago and can't really remember what I did. I don't mind sending it back to Sammy if I need too but would rather not have to pay if I can get away with it. I know messing around with IMEI numbers is highly illegal but any help would be greatly appreciated. If it is of any help to the situation, my gf has a galaxy s as well, don't know if this would be any good to get any files I need but at the same time I am scared to ruin her phone. I know I am an idiot and I promise I will never play around again.

i bought a samsung focus 2 from ebay not knowing it was originally a store demo model. it was on the 7.5 OS but was able to force the 7.8 official release onto it (just kept doing the update till it went through). but it didn't fix the issue with it loading the demo software once it would boot back up. i have followed all the ideas posted on here about doing soft/hard resets but know the info is stored on a portion of the phone that updates won't overwrite.
i have done my searches on here and they were never answered by the person who started the thread and were quite old as well. is there a generic ROM i can load that will block the demo or does anyone know how i can hack the phone (bootloader, registry) to stop or delete this nonsense.
i cannot get my money back for this phone as the person deleted their ebay/paypal account. i have been on the phone with both and it's just not going to happen. so my only option is to hack the phone.... i don't want to sell it to someone else knowing it has this problem as i know it will come back on me and i just don't have it in me to rip someone off like i was basically just done.
i'm extremely noob when it comes to hacking a phone or registry so would need it in simple instructions.
it seems like a nice phone and would be a great backup so i don't want to brick it or break it. i would like to eventually use it so anyones help would be greatly appreciated.

now that i look, i'm not 100% sure it actually updated to 7.8. it says it on the about screen, but it feels like it's still on 7.5... how can i be sure it's updated or not.

if you can find a custom rom for this device then that will do the trick but having looked at the focus 2 forum, it seems to be a device that has received no attention at all!
There are no unlocks, no roms, no nothing!
Mabie the other WP hacking sites might have one but on here there's nothing for that phone, strange!

Hi There I was just reading your post. I think you have a Focus 2? Well I have a Samsung Focus S, and it is also on demo mode, just finished debranding it and interloping it also. I also just finished disabling the demo mode. Don't know if it can also work on the Focus 2, it is just a registry edit. maybe it can work for you. Ive got a bricked verizon galaxy note 10.1 2012 edition and cant seem to get any help on the forum for it. not even a single reply in a week. I know the gs3 is around the same generation i believe we even used some slightly modified versions of the gs3 root methods/kernals/recoveries etc. on the 10.1 if anyone has any pointers on what i should try id really appreciate it. im not trying to save any data or anything just get it working again. here's my original thread with more details. Hope im not stepping on anyones toes by reaching out to a different forum again any help is really appreciated ive always been an htc guy so im not very knowledgeable with odin.
