Hey guys I have a question about straight talk service.my question is what is the best option between simple mobile vs straight talk.the thing is where I live T-Mobile service is only edge service so I called straight talk customer service and they told me that they run on T-Mobile and at&t so can I use at&t service on my Samsung galaxy s 4g.(at&t is the best service here now does any one here have straight talk on there phone here that can give me some advice..side note my phone is unlocked

I currently am not on either one of those services. However if I understand correctly about the two services I believes Simple Mobile is the better service when it comes to data usage, however though according to research the two are very similar when it comes to coverage(they both use basically the same towers) the main differences would be data caps. Look into the data caps of both plans, but if what you are saying is true about T-Mobile having only Edge then that shouldn't really matter, go with the one that has the better speed, because if you only get Edge you'll never even get close to the data cap anyways.
I've even read things that say Straight Talk now owns Simple Mobile. How true that is I don't really know, do some research for yourself and make the best decision from your budget and your area, even if I had one of those plans my experience would most likely be very different than any experiences you will have because of the areas we live in. Try talking to people in your area that have one of the two, they would know a lot more about the service, speed, and coverage than anyone that doesn't live near you.

just one thing you need to know. when if you go to att, the thing is you might not even get 3/4g but only edge because of the difference on frequency/broadband att and tmobile uses. i don't know about straight talk because never use it nor research what frequency/broadband it uses
The biggest issue is Straight Talk has a invisible DAILY data cap. And they dont just shut off the data they turn off the service completely. Ive been told to order the T-Mo sim from them not the att so you dont hit the daily cap.

the problem for me is that the T-Mobile service sucks here I only get edge and at&t service is the best here..

I would use a data monitor for a couple weeks get a idea of how much data you use per day. Then decide if it is worth having to ***** at ST to get your account turned back on if you go over.

The SGS4G has a 1900 MHz UMTS modem, so you should be able to get at least 3G from the AT&T network (unless you live in one of their 850 MHz areas).

I just switched from T-mobile to Straight talk due to the same reason as stated in the OP. The T-mobile coverage was bad in my office building and AT&T penetration in buildings is always claimed to be better. I unlocked my Galaxy S 4g using the helpful posts from here and ordered the Straight talk AT&T card. I can confirm that I do see 3G showing on my phone and the speed was great when it was 3G. But, its not always 3G, I do get in the Edge areas too often too. I am very happy because my voice coverage has improved leaps and bounds after switching.
I have read about the scary part where Straight talk cancels service if we go over some hidden limits. So to be safe, I ported my number over to Google voice and use that to make a call. This way, I can switch between phone providers easily without any porting issues. But, not sure if Google voice will remain free after the end of the year.

Thank you guys all here for your responds I will try straight talk next month when my service is about to end with simple mobile.I don't have nothing to lose but the 12 dollar for:thumb ST sim card and 5 dollars extra ST service vs my 40 dollar simple mobile service :thumbup:

Samsung doesn't advertise the 1900 MHz UMTS band for the phone, but it's there. I often swap out the SIM on my phone with my work iPhone, and the 3G works just fine.

The phone has to support SVDO in order to do voice+data on Sprint. Very, very few phones do (the EVO 4G LTE did, the HTC One didn't, for example). It requires a special antenna configuration as well IIRC.

Unfortunately no, the nexus 5 does not support SVDO or SVLTE. This means it also will only connect to one airlink at a time - when you receive a call, it will switch to 1x, pausing your LTE, similar to older handsets.

Too bad... Found more on s4gru regarding this:
"That is what we have been told. Sprint tri band LTE devices will not support SVLTE. Whether that is due to band 26 LTE 800, band 41 TD-LTE 2600, or the combination of the two, we do not know. And the sample size is very small right now to project unconditionally into the future. But the standard expectation going forward should be no SVLTE on Sprint multi band LTE devices. Simultaneous voice and data will have to be accomplished by other means, such as third party VoIP apps and eventually VoLTE."
I are a sad sprint customer lol. Also why I went with a multi carrier phone off contract June 2014 can't come soon enough, cause I loves this phone!
This was my biggest complaints with this phone on sprint. I couldn't do it so I activated it using straight talk for att and couldn't be happier. It's unfortunate that spark phones on sprint won't do simultaneous voice and data, at least for now. But I'm not willing to compromise.

I hear that. My biggest issue with switching providers is that I average 5-6gb of data usage/mo on my line and about 12gb combined with the other two phones on my family plan (Ting told me not to switch lol). It's hard to beat the bargain offered for services rendered from Sprint. Nickles and dimes I suppose. Oh well, maybe 2015 will be the year of the phone... (Oh wait, we'll probably have 5g by then and tri-band will evolve to octa-band with the same problems )

I still have a family plan on sprint so if my data amount becomes an issue I'll go back but for now I'll sacrifice more data for fast and always available data, and at a rate of $45 I'll take it.

I have ST AT&T service. When I am on a call though, I lose LTE. It switches me to H (HPSA I think). Speed is not terrible, but would be nicer to have LTE while on a call. Do you have the same experience? If not, do you know how I can have LTE while on a call? Thanks.

Nope, that's by design. It has to do with available radios. If LTE isn't on a separate radio it can't be used simultaneously. On the upside, having less radios means better battery life overall.

And since we're all pretty sure due to FCC filings that the Moto hardware supports band 12, could anyone tell me itd be possible to open this great budget phone up to t mobiles expanding 700mhz coverage?
Even if you unlock the band, without VoLTE support you wouldn't be able to make calls or send/receive sms messages. This is why Motorola disabled it.
Is that really so important though? Data coverage is all I really need. If there's 2g or 3g fallback texts will still come in, and I think I've gotten texts on lte only mode on my galaxy s4 even on roms that don't support VoLTE or WiFi calling, so texts might still work. Calling can easily be done over Google hangouts as a data call anyway. The coverage is most important to power users, not making it compatible with calls

I'll be driving to Seattle from Chicago next week and I could use all of the additional coverage I can get. I really don't care if I can't get traditional voice / text, hangouts etc are perfectly fine stop gaps. I'm going to buy a Moto G from Best Buy and try this but with no band 12 near me I can't know if it actually is working. If anyone who has coverage in their area wants to give it a shot, I think everyone would love to know if its possible.

I returned my phone, and that guide seems to be very device specific. Since no one has done it for the Moto G 3rd gen yet, I could easily brick my phone with the only fix as "flash the stock FTF file" which seems to be some special file for sony devices? I'd rather not get in over my head and ruin a brand new device.

Just so you know.. most of the twin cities area you'd be driving through has band 12 with t-mobile (multiple sources on Google as well as personal experience working at MSP). Band 12 probably wont be deployed anytime soon in rural areas because T-mobile is only using it in urban areas to penetrate buildings with lower frequencies with less line-of-sight areas. What you'd be wanting to look for is T-Mobile refarming their old 2G (EDGE) towers to LTE. Regardless, even with 2G coverage you can still get calls/text/Google Maps to work.
I travel all of North America for work and I'm in a different state every week. I carry a T-Mobile phone as my primary and a Cricket phone (through AT&T) as a backup. I know most people don't have that luxury of carrying two carriers with them, so I keep up to date on this stuff as best I can. People have been getting really mis-informed with this whole T-Mobile Band 12 thing lately.
Another trivial fact.. Minneapolis metro area is one of the best covered metro locations in North America for T-Mobile. Because they bought out VoiceStream, that was one of their top markets. I remember having them when I lived up there years ago!
Anyway, have a safe trip! I'm jealous you're heading to Seattle. Used to live out there as well and I woul do anything to move back! I just got married out there last December.

Regular sms needs a voice signal. If you got a text with only data it was an mms.
looking to purchase a smartwatch. Ive decided to become more active for weight loss purpose. hiking, walking/ jogging and cycling isn't a place i wanna carry my new/expensive s8+.
this is where i thought a smart watch would come in. But from what I'm understanding is Sprint doesn't have LTE plan for smartwatches, only BT connection.
correct me if I'm wrong
LTE connection: I can leave my phone in the car while I'm out being active with my smartwatch, and still be connected to phone calls. txt and can stream music to my BT head set.
BT connection: phone has to be near smartwatch to have forwarding txt/call/stream. which to me seems redundant and stupid.
I just upgraded this past weekend. so I can go back, return everything and walk away from sprint and start a new line with either AT&T, T-mobile, or Verizon.
if thats the case (being here in L.A. area) which provider has had better success rate with the s8+/LTE frontier connection, or is it too early to tell yet.
I'm open to other smartwatches, mainly looking for something that'll connect to Myfitnesspal app and maybe someday pokemon go lol.

Sprint hasn't supported a smart watch from Samsung since I think the first gear s. I don't think there's a way to put it on sprint since they don't even sell this watch or support it. If someone does find a way that would be awesome but I suggest to not get your hopes up. Out of the 4 biggest US carrier sprint doesn't seem Intrested in smart watches at this time. I'm pretty sure they'll eventually allow smart watches in the future since it is a growing market right now

Damn. and i really liked Sprint too.
The Gear S3 is only available on AT&T and T-Mobile. Rumor is Verizon will offer it sometime in the future, but whoever truly knows when, isn't saying.
The watch and phone do not have to be on the same network. Mine isn't, and there a couple of folks here who have a phone on Verizon and their Frontier LTE on T-Mobile. T-Mobile (and Verizon) offer standalone wearable plans for $15/mo. AT&T only offers a wearable line as an add on line.
So your phone could remain on Sprint while your S3 is on T-Mobile.

OK, so this was my next question. I've seen verizon to t-mobile, But i haven't seen Sprint to any T-mobile or At&t. but again, everywhere i call i don't get a clear answer, obviously trying to keep themselves from promising something they can't deliver.
So my next questions are(and please understand I'm a novice so your help is greatly appreciated) :
1. if i go with T-mobile and keep my Sprint line, the LTE functions will all work normally WITH T-MOBILES plan?
2. and are there any special steps/ procedures to make it work ?

Think of watch as a 1" smartphone with it's own plan (with talk, text, and data). The Frontier LTE is capable of operating on its own without a phone, though most folks don't.
If you have two phones, you can put one on Sprint and the other one on T-Mobile. Ditto with the S3.
A Bluetooth connection is not effected by carrier selection.

right, so ill pretty much have my current phone plan with sprint for the s8+, and a phone plan for the Frontier, but ill be able to link them so that my s8+ calls/text/data (maybe not data since it has its own right?) get sent to the Frontier.

which I've done with prior service offers, the only thing confusing me is those are 2 separate lines that don't need to be linked, I.E. I'm not getting info from phone B on phone A and vice versa. while with the S8+ i want it to forward to the s3 gear.

i hope you know I've been trying my damnedest to search this before i leave my current provider or do as you say and get service and watch from Tmobile/verizon, which to me would be the best since it would be the most cost effective.
The watch accommodates call forwarding. Since I don't use it, I'll leave that for someone else to explain. There are services that will allow sharing a number across multiple devices. NumberSync on AT&T, Digits on T-Mobile, Message + on Verizon. I believe that all require a compatible phone on their network. Since I don't use them, I'll leave that for someone else to expound on.
I use Google Voice which works with any carrier and on any device. Calls and texts are routed through Google servers and come across simultaneously to my phone, watch, iPad, Samsung tablet and laptop on AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile networks. Outgoing CID is my GV number regardless of what device it originated on. IMHO, Google Voice is more reliable and more flexible than carrier based solutions.

T-Mobile offers a $5 per month smartwatch plan for current customers, and I believe a standalone $15 a month plan if you are not a current customer.
Think of the Gear S3 as a BT Headset. You can pair it with any phone on any carrier. Most of the time Your watch is BT connected to your phone so it is getting calls/texts/data from your phone. When I go for a run I leave my phone at home. Once the BT connection is lost I can still get all my calls/text/emails if I leave my phone at home turned on and in call forward mode. It simply sends everything to the number assigned to my watch. I can also make calls and many other things since the Gear S3 is operating almost exactly like a tiny smart phone.
Hope that helps, if you really want an S3 you can enjoy it especially since you are using a Samsung S8, it was designed to work seamlessly with Samsung products. The actual carrier is not important. It may cost you a little more for a smartwatch plan.

what about from a sprint note 8 to a Verizon gear s3 frontier LTE ?
So I have bought a HTC u11 plus and should get it today. What I have done the past week is check my bands at the places I visit most. And while driving. I used lte discovery app to help me with this and some Google searches. In my findings band 2 is hardly used when I am at home or driving. My 1+5 is always on band 4 or 12. At home is the only place where it is on band 2 but it switches to 4 and uses this mostly but I use wifi calling at home due to coverage sucking at my house. I did a Google search on band 2 and it is not very good around my areas. So people with TMobile USA should be fine to get this phone and use here. Also my cousin has a HTC 10 from overseas which has less bands enabled and has never had an issue with lte or call connection with TMobile. Once I get the phone I will do more testing for TMobile folks. Let me know your results if you have any.

Lol i got the notification on this and saw CJ. For a minute i was like is he referring to me? Who the heck is CJ lol i laughed after i figured it out. . Anyway so after having the phone in my hands with all of its beauty and awesomeness. I could not take it anymore. This phone works great if you have a wifi and data connection all the time. But for people who still makes voice phone calls it is the worst.. so bad i put it on ebay yesterday. I got so frustrated the other day. I was trying to make a call and when you do, it drops down to 2g,3g. The call qualty on that is horrible. The calls always dropped and when i did have a good connection the quality was horrible. Half the time i would not get text messages and not everyone uses whats app and that is what i was trying to use because i always will have data. No VOLTE which i missed no WIfi calling which does come in handy. So i kept looking and band 2 does more than LTE I believe that band 2 also deals with AWS which is needed for calling. Man i tried.... i tried to put up with it here in the states. The phone itself is just amazing the Pixel that got away is what i call it. So if you are here in the states Dont buy it unless you have data connection and everyone has like data messaging or calling for a strong data connection. I am really sad and dissapointed at HTC the phone i have been waiting for since the HTC sensation 4g. Hopes this helps.

Well, crap. Thank you for conducting the experiment. Yeah, it's the Pixel 2XL WITH an sd card slot, which is what I want, except apparently without Band 2, the thing's hobbled. I was gonna install the Google HDR+ camera app and have it all! Damn.
I got my hopes up because I saw reports of people bringing the Exynos Note 8 over here and getting it to work, but IT has Band 2! Seriously, how tough is it to add these bands! Do people want to sell phones or not?!!
Anyway, thanks again. An answer is an answer, even if it's not the one I was hoping for.
And yeah, if you're reclaiming that term, I completely respect that, but I still gotta go with CJ.
Sucks to hear that. I've been using my HTC U11+ in the Bay Area for about two weeks now and so far it's been absolutely flawless. Not a single issue finding LTE or dropping calls.

I've had the phone since late December and have had the same experience in the greater Baltimore area. Must be different bands/stronger network in our areas.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I got it from Amazon. Took about 4-5 days to receive it even though Amazons system said 2 weeks. I also just noticed that it's a decent amount cheaper now as well compared to when I bought it in December by over $100.

I agree with this I've had zero issues so far since getting this phone. Only had it for a day now but prior to I ran LTE Discover on my HTC U11 and saw I very rarely used Band 2 (San Diego). After some digging I saw how Band 2 works on T-Mobile and I'm OK without it. I'll be in Vegas in a week so I'll be curious how it holds up there, though I don't really expect hiccups. The one thing I do want to get back is VOLTE/VOWIFI.

I'm not far from you and I just picked up my U11+ from Swappa. Does this phone actually read "4G LTE" when in LTE service area? I have not seen it yet. I have the Nexus 6 and a Note 5 and both have had that when in and around Maryland. THanks for replying when you do.

No, it just says 4G. However, when using apps such as Speed Test by Ookla, it says I'm connected to "LTE T-Mobile", and the speed test are roughly what I was getting on my previous iPhone 6S Plus.

Thank you. I did install LTE Discovery and was able to get information on what band I am on and more. It keeps flipping back to 'H' loads which is made me wondering what I might be doing wrong if it is not in the phone itself. I am in a strong 4G LTE area for work (base) and home. My Nexus 6 and my Note 5 always read 4G LTE in an area as such. I still love this phone even though it's not 2 weeks old yet.
I'm tempted to get this for an upgrade from my HTC 10. I don't care too much about the dual camera for the HTC 12+, plus I want it in Red which might not even come out in the US. So with the bigger battery 3,900 mah, about $200 less and the red color now. Would this be a good buy if I typically travel around the east coast?
I have one I purchased on a recent trip overseas to Taiwan. My carrier here in the US is Tmobile and I only have connectivity issues in rural areas. Can someone point me to a stock ROM from Tmobile that would be compatible with this phone?
