Hey all... I'm looking at upgrading to a Galaxy S6 from Bell. Getting a pretty decent deal. I'm still doing research but figured I'd drop this question here while I'm searching.
Are there any Android 4.X ROM's available for the S6? I am not a fan of Android 5.0. I know 6.0 is out, but I don't like upgrading to the latest OS right away.
I currently have a Galaxy S4 (i337m, Canadian model) and I'm running LiquidSmooth 3.0. Great ROM. Love the look and the features it provides.
Any info would be greatly appreciated as I will be upgrading shortly.
Thanks as always
Simple answer...no

Nevermind. I won't be upgrading to an S6. No microSD expansion and no removable battery. 2 very big negatives for me.
I'll just got with an upgrade to an S5 for free.
So you get a 64/128gb model and a battery case if you are running low, simples
Battery is decent weather it's removable or not. And as above there 64 and 128gb models the s6 is a brilliant device way better than s5

I am looking for a new phone I have sprnit and i dont plan on leaving Sprint. I currently have the Evo 4g and i love it I have played around with the evo 3D and i like the power it has but i dont really care for the 3D portion. I am also looknig at the Photon because i like the Tegra processor in it. I see that the Galaxy S2 is coming out but I am not so much of a fan of the Samsung UI. How is battery life?
If I had to get a Sprint phone it would be the Photon. They do have a dual screen Android powered phone (I forgot the name) that I believe is a little bit older, but that one is pretty cool to play with.
The Galaxy SII would be the one to wait for. Even tho Samsung's TouchWiz UI isn't that great, you can always flash a ROM over it that uses a different interface. That's what I did, I have the Samsung Droid Charge that's running a vanilla android interface.
get the photon, great specs, great battery life, development is only just beginning, and has a long way to go I'm sure, a very likely device to get Ice cream sandwich, some nice features. Highly recommend

I Have Samsung Galaxy SII and it is definitely a phone to wait for.
And the ROMs posted on this site make it even better...
Well thanks for all the input I think I might wait for the Galaxy 2 and try it out at a sprint store. I just hope that it really will be released on 9/9 like the rumors say.
Hey guys, I know it hasn't shipped out yet but I am thinking about getting the Samsung Galaxy s4 on Verizon and am wondering if anyone knows whether or not there will be an AOSP ROM for it. I currently have the Galaxy Nexus, and before that i had the first Droid so Touchwiz scares me! I have read a lot about there being so many different versions that the custom ROMs for this device might be lacking and now with the pure android version being released by Google it makes me even more worried that the Verizon folks are going to get left out of the pure Android experience on the Galaxy S4 - if that is the case I might have to pony up for the Note 2.
Even if its speculation I would love to hear your thoughts and I apologize if this has been addressed (I searched, I swear) or if I'm putting this in the wrong section
I was reading this article about the KitKat updates for the Note 3 and s4 and it also said that the Note II and S III will be getting the updates later on. My question is, when do you guys think we can expect custom KitKat/TouchWiz ROMs? I'm really curious as to how this new software will behave on our devices. What do you guys think? Here's the article I read http://www.androidpit.com/android-4-4-coming-to-samsung-devices

Whenever an article mentions Android updates, it's a good practice to frame their discussion in the context of international models. Carrier variants typically see updates at a much slower pace, especially older devices. If the rumored date is soon for an unspecified S3 variant, it's for an international model. Count on no TouchWiz KitKat roms until Samsung pushes a build for Verizon, Verizon certifies it, then pushes it out as an OTA.
Way too early to even think about a custom TW KitKat rom.

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. I actually had a KitKat phone before I got my S III, it was the Motorola Droid Mini, which is actually a pretty sweet phone, but it was just Android KitKat and I was just curious as to how the manufactures were going to do their KitKat software. I know that HTC is going to stick with they're social networking centered Sense 5 unfortunately. But KitKat is more of a Flat UI like Windows 8 and iOS 7 have done. I'm curious as to how TouchWiz is going to be remodeled. I guess the best way to find out is just get an s4 or Note 3, but as laggy and bogged down as their software currently is with no chance of unlocking they're bootloaders, I don't want them. Yeah the Note 3 has 3 GB of RAM and a quad core clocked at 2.3 gHz but you can't feel that because if the horrible software. Guess I'll just kick back and stay on the modified CleanROM 8 that I'm running. I made it a hell of a lot faster than it was and it's running pretty good for me. Thanks for your reply man!

I am about to get a new phone (now because I cracked the screen on my LG E980...) namely to have a better experience in customizing, etc.
I am aware that the S5 has somewhat better performance than the S4, but I am more interested in the options for ROM development and customize-ability. First off, what is the appropriate model name for the S4? (I'm on AT&T) Wondering this for compatibility purposes.. Also are there any software updates I should avoid? Will I need to go back to any old firmware/software version(s) to have better luck rotting or installing ROMs/recoveries?
Any insight appreciated, thanks!

I had an s3 t999 and broke the screen. Loved it! Stable ROMs galore!
I went out and went to the S5 g900T! I love AOSP ROMs and there are no stable AOSP roms. I have trouble getting text messages. Even after i updated bootloader modem. I've tried every rom. Mabye in a few months I will like it
BUT
After having it for about 4 months I just went out 3 days ago and purchased an S4 M919 aand so far I love it. Works greeat and there are a ton of ROMs.
I like checking every ROM out so I might not be the best person to ask because I didnt spend a lot of time on the stock ROMs.
Hi,
I am looking into buying a S6 or S7 for my wife. I know the S7 is the newer version (duh) but future proofing also means having access to newer Android Versions. Afaik nougat is the last android update the S6 will receive while I am guessing that the S7 will also get Android O. That would leave me with installing a custom rom (on the S6) when O comes out. I tried having a look at the forums but I am not sure: Is it correct to say that the S7 is the better phone when it comes to custom roms?
Thanks for the help!
I have an S6 and Exynos = no custom/Aosp roms. I know they are very early stages of Aosp because Exynos will not release the source code. So getting a working version of Android O before it is officially released for S6 is a lot of work to get stable. I cant see that happening.
I have ordered my S7 but dont have any experience at the moment with it. I have seen AOSP on the S7 so that means there is a lot of development going on. Which for me is key when buying a new phone. Exchange, contribute, share and improve info.
So short answer is YES
LineageOS is out for both phones, but i'll bet some stuff still doesn't work. I would opt for the s7 mainly due to the bigger battery.
