Hey guys, I know it hasn't shipped out yet but I am thinking about getting the Samsung Galaxy s4 on Verizon and am wondering if anyone knows whether or not there will be an AOSP ROM for it. I currently have the Galaxy Nexus, and before that i had the first Droid so Touchwiz scares me! I have read a lot about there being so many different versions that the custom ROMs for this device might be lacking and now with the pure android version being released by Google it makes me even more worried that the Verizon folks are going to get left out of the pure Android experience on the Galaxy S4 - if that is the case I might have to pony up for the Note 2.
Even if its speculation I would love to hear your thoughts and I apologize if this has been addressed (I searched, I swear) or if I'm putting this in the wrong section

Hi there.
Recently, I've been thinking about switching over from T-Mobile to Sprint and getting a Samsung Epic. The funny thing is, I usually can't stand Samsung, and the Epic comes locked into TouchWiz 3.0 (which I also hate).
I know how to Root the device, and I wanted to know if there were any "good" ROMs out there being developed for the Epic to help me escape TouchWiz and the "Robust File System"(possibly ROMs close to the structure of Stock "Vanilla" Android 2.1).
Thanks in advance!

How is everyone doing? I've read somewhere that the Verizon Galaxy Tab 2 is just an Verizon S3 with a crappy screen (lol). I've also read that they share the same partition layout. That being the case, what is the difficulty in forking the Verizon S3 git repository to get started on a CM rom? I'm looking at getting into developing and I will try to test this concept out on my device (when it gets here) but I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this approach.
I have been relatively happy running on Stock Rooted 4.1.2 on my (2012) Verizon GN 10.1 (SCH-i925) for a while now. This device, unfortunately didn't get much love due to the very few people that bought it. After having a couple of Verizon LTE tablets I've about decided it's not worth buying from Verizon since you get almost completely different hardware from the rest of the world. In any case I digress.
What I want to know with 4.3 or is it 4.4 for these tablets showing up is anyone working on a stock rom higher than 4.1.x? I like CM and all that for about anything except a Note tablet. Unless something's changed since last time I looked for this there is no way to get the samsung features and frameworks in there to do multi screen etc on the CM roms right? Anyone out there still wanting to breathe some more life into these VZW tablets now that the new ones are out?

Just curious, but how did you get it rooted? There is no known Root method on 4.1.2, at least that I know of.
It's been quite a while but if I'm not mistaken I was on an earlier version and then there was some upgrade path to keep root. Found it here on xda
Hey everyone ^^. Im new to XDA and sort of new to the Android modding scene too. Im curious if i can install any Rom on my Galaxy S5. I know they have to be specifically designed for that phone, but are there certain Roms that are tied to a certain phone carrier/variant? Specially designed? I guess my question would be could i take a Rom made for the Galaxy S5 Dev Edition from Verizon and use that Rom on a galaxy S5 regular verizon variant? Sorry for being such a Newb :/
generally speaking the rom has to say its for your exact model/variant/carrier/etc or you will likely have issues and even possibly brick.
as far as specifically a dev rom to your phone, im not positive, but following the rule above, the answer is most likely no you cant.
I am a mildly disappointed owner of an AT&T SGH I-497.... SERIOUSLY looking at changing it up and want a SAMSUNG 10 inch tablet I can customize without issue and that has GOOD development....... Which model does everyone recommend? Thanks in advance.... thinking of learning development on my 10.1 since the file system appears broken....

Go away from the carrier locked down versions and go with a wifi only tab. They have unlocked bootloaders and you can run custom roms on them without issue. As far as which ones I'd look around, the Galaxy Tab S series looks good but you may want to look around the forums here for what's the better option for development
