Hey everyone ^^. Im new to XDA and sort of new to the Android modding scene too. Im curious if i can install any Rom on my Galaxy S5. I know they have to be specifically designed for that phone, but are there certain Roms that are tied to a certain phone carrier/variant? Specially designed? I guess my question would be could i take a Rom made for the Galaxy S5 Dev Edition from Verizon and use that Rom on a galaxy S5 regular verizon variant? Sorry for being such a Newb :/
generally speaking the rom has to say its for your exact model/variant/carrier/etc or you will likely have issues and even possibly brick.
as far as specifically a dev rom to your phone, im not positive, but following the rule above, the answer is most likely no you cant.

Hey guys, I know it hasn't shipped out yet but I am thinking about getting the Samsung Galaxy s4 on Verizon and am wondering if anyone knows whether or not there will be an AOSP ROM for it. I currently have the Galaxy Nexus, and before that i had the first Droid so Touchwiz scares me! I have read a lot about there being so many different versions that the custom ROMs for this device might be lacking and now with the pure android version being released by Google it makes me even more worried that the Verizon folks are going to get left out of the pure Android experience on the Galaxy S4 - if that is the case I might have to pony up for the Note 2.
Even if its speculation I would love to hear your thoughts and I apologize if this has been addressed (I searched, I swear) or if I'm putting this in the wrong section
Is there any rom like UltimaROM? I looked at it and it looks like a really good rom! Is it possible if it can be ported?
There isn't even a ported stock international S3 rom for this phone. Lately there has been an uptick of people asking about international s3 ports for this phone. I told another person who posted something like this the other day that the hardware have to be similar in order to make porting possible. It is very difficult to port something meant for one device to another so if the hardware is similar in both devices it makes it easier.
Hi everyone, I'm sorta new to Android and rom-flashing, so here are my questions:
Baseline Question: Which ROM is the best: Cyanogenmod, Paranoid Android, or AOKP?
So, I obviously googled this question and the same answer I keep getting is that each rom delivers a different user experience and that the answer depends on the person and that you should just try out each one. But recently I came to know of Pacman Rom, which claims to encompass all three of these roms (and more)...so now for my real question.. It seems super awesome that Pacman Rom encompasses all three of these roms, but if it's so good, why isn't everyone on it already? Meaning, is there any reason that I'm missing as to why some people prefer to stick to a particular one instead of this awesome-seeming rom? Just curious as to whether I should flash this or stay with Cyanogenmod.
I can imagine reasons like Pacman Rom may not be available for as wide a range of phones, etc., but any other reasons for why or why not? Thanks in advance guys!
My Phone Currently: Samsung Galaxy S3 T-999 4.1.2 Cyanogenmod 10.1

The answer to this is really the same as your original question
"So, I obviously googled this question and the same answer I keep getting is that each rom delivers a different user experience and that the answer depends on the person and that you should just try out each one."
It's all personal taste and personal wants/needs. I suggest you read through the thread for the ROM in your device section and if it looks appealing to you then flash it and try it out. If you don't like it, you can always go back to what you were using or try out something else
Hi
I am wondering if i have a phone that is so new that there is no mention if it here. I was trying to find out how to root it and was given a program that works with all kinds of phones, it worked but I still don't know of it is different than the s4 sgh-i337. the reason I wanted to root the phone is that I want to create a hot spot which I can't do. I guess if you just tell me how to make this phone into a hot spot that would work but I really want to know what forums I need to use to do things with this phone. It is a new phone for smart talk (AT&T).
Thanks
Hi,
I've seen that you've posted in the S4 forums already. And that would be a good place. Yes, you have an obscure model and no... It's not the same as a the others.... And flashing anything not specifically made your model could destroy your device.
But for asking questions... You already "found your way".... . ?
Good luck. ?
I am about to get a new phone (now because I cracked the screen on my LG E980...) namely to have a better experience in customizing, etc.
I am aware that the S5 has somewhat better performance than the S4, but I am more interested in the options for ROM development and customize-ability. First off, what is the appropriate model name for the S4? (I'm on AT&T) Wondering this for compatibility purposes.. Also are there any software updates I should avoid? Will I need to go back to any old firmware/software version(s) to have better luck rotting or installing ROMs/recoveries?
Any insight appreciated, thanks!

I had an s3 t999 and broke the screen. Loved it! Stable ROMs galore!
I went out and went to the S5 g900T! I love AOSP ROMs and there are no stable AOSP roms. I have trouble getting text messages. Even after i updated bootloader modem. I've tried every rom. Mabye in a few months I will like it
BUT
After having it for about 4 months I just went out 3 days ago and purchased an S4 M919 aand so far I love it. Works greeat and there are a ton of ROMs.
I like checking every ROM out so I might not be the best person to ask because I didnt spend a lot of time on the stock ROMs.
