How is everyone doing? I've read somewhere that the Verizon Galaxy Tab 2 is just an Verizon S3 with a crappy screen (lol). I've also read that they share the same partition layout. That being the case, what is the difficulty in forking the Verizon S3 git repository to get started on a CM rom? I'm looking at getting into developing and I will try to test this concept out on my device (when it gets here) but I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this approach.

Hey guys, new to posting on the forums but have followed them for the past couple of months and found them very helpful. Unfortunately, I dropped by Verizon Windows Phone 8x about a month ago and shattered the screen, and have been using a Galaxy SIII ever since. After using Windows Phone, I really do not enjoy using Android and have been trying to think of a way to use it on my SIII.
I have an idea about getting it running, but don't have the appropriate software nor expertise to try and do so, and could use some help/suggestions. While I do not believe this will work on non-North American SIII's (because of the lack of a Snapdragon processor), the North American versions share pretty much the same internals and arguably should work (ATT/TMO GSIII--> ATIV S and the VZW GSIII --> ATIV Odyssey)
I have some experience flashing Android phones, and am running CM10.1 on my SIII right now, but am not 100% sure what the steps would be given this is a different operating system. I've followed the HTC Windows Phone 8x unbranding thread, and figure the steps would be similar. I also don't have an ATIV Odyssey ROM.
I'd be happy to do some trial and error to see what works if anyone can help me out a little bit (especially with the ROM). I am hoping to replace my SIII with a Nokia 928 when it comes out, so the SIII is essentially just a test device at this point.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Hey guys, I know it hasn't shipped out yet but I am thinking about getting the Samsung Galaxy s4 on Verizon and am wondering if anyone knows whether or not there will be an AOSP ROM for it. I currently have the Galaxy Nexus, and before that i had the first Droid so Touchwiz scares me! I have read a lot about there being so many different versions that the custom ROMs for this device might be lacking and now with the pure android version being released by Google it makes me even more worried that the Verizon folks are going to get left out of the pure Android experience on the Galaxy S4 - if that is the case I might have to pony up for the Note 2.
Even if its speculation I would love to hear your thoughts and I apologize if this has been addressed (I searched, I swear) or if I'm putting this in the wrong section
What is the deal with this U.S. Cellular Galaxy Tab 10.1 SCH-I905? Is it just the hated step-child of the Samsung Galaxy Tab world? I cannot find any custom recovery or OS mods for this particular device. Are they all REALLY that different? I have tried a couple of custom recoveries via ODIN, but none of them worked. Now I don't have a recovery option at all. Does ANYONE know of any mods for this useless device? One would think that the carrier would be the only difference, but none of the other mods are successful in this device. I have looked all over the web, in several different forums, and I have found nothing. I just don't get it. Why make so many versions of one device, and why do they differ so much in terms of capabilities? It just doesn't make sense to me, outside of the greed aspect. If someone knows of any mods for this crappy tablet, or if anyone can point me in a direction that I have not already gone, it would be immensely appreciated. Thanks.

I am having the same problem. Let me know if you ever find an answer to your dilemma.
Hey everyone ^^. Im new to XDA and sort of new to the Android modding scene too. Im curious if i can install any Rom on my Galaxy S5. I know they have to be specifically designed for that phone, but are there certain Roms that are tied to a certain phone carrier/variant? Specially designed? I guess my question would be could i take a Rom made for the Galaxy S5 Dev Edition from Verizon and use that Rom on a galaxy S5 regular verizon variant? Sorry for being such a Newb :/
generally speaking the rom has to say its for your exact model/variant/carrier/etc or you will likely have issues and even possibly brick.
as far as specifically a dev rom to your phone, im not positive, but following the rule above, the answer is most likely no you cant.
I am a mildly disappointed owner of an AT&T SGH I-497.... SERIOUSLY looking at changing it up and want a SAMSUNG 10 inch tablet I can customize without issue and that has GOOD development....... Which model does everyone recommend? Thanks in advance.... thinking of learning development on my 10.1 since the file system appears broken....

Go away from the carrier locked down versions and go with a wifi only tab. They have unlocked bootloaders and you can run custom roms on them without issue. As far as which ones I'd look around, the Galaxy Tab S series looks good but you may want to look around the forums here for what's the better option for development
