Nexus Player on Sale @ Staples (Canada) - Nexus Player General

Nexus Player is going to be on sale at Staples from $109 to $69.99 tomorrow.
I've never had a Android box and thinking of using this as my starter box, using it for Live TV, Movies, Tv Shows, and thats about it right now. Is it worth rooting it? I've rooted many android phones, but not sure about benefits of the Box.

It wont do live tv unless you feed it from a source like HD Homerun or slingbox through the sling app. Keep in mind in order to do anything with it, you'll need a powered usb hub, adapters to fit the awkward micro-usb input and a wireless keyboard and mouse.

[Q] what type of cable to go from the TF to an HDTV?

I was at Walmart today looking at the HDMI cables....I plan on hooking my TF up to my HDTV...and all that WM had was normal sized HD cables...
What cable do I need? Is it called "Mini-HDMI" to HDMI?
HDMI Mini to HDMI Male...
Get one from Amazon, I bought the cheapest one I could find on Amazon which was £1.90 (around $3) and it works fine...don't believe any of that BS that 'you get what you pay for'...
Thanks Bigmo!
Just to make sure...
Is this it?
http://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-P570-006-mini-HDMI-Digital/dp/B000TT80DG/ref=pd_sim_e_3
OR this?
http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Speed-Mini-HDMI-Ethernet-Meters/dp/B003ES5ZR8/ref=pd_cp_e_1
Both of those will work, but I suggest ordering from Monoprice over Walmart or Amazon. Here is a list of cables that will work for the TF: http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10242 (the last one here won't work unless your TV supports mini HDMI, and I doubt it does).
Ethernet is nice to have but is currently not supported by (m)any devices. It's only pennies or so on monoprice, so I always pick it up for when hdmi w/ ethernet devices start coming out.
thanks very much, I appreciate the help.

HDMI cable

I bought an HDMI cable from Ebay and hook it up to my HD TV using the Droid Charge, but nothing shows... do I need any special program to make this work, or is it just my cable might be bad, i got it cheap, like $5.
It's the cable. I brought 2 and they're no good. I then paid $3 for HDMI to mini HDMI converter and used my regular HDMI cable. You don't need any special app to watch Netflix on TV. Remember, the quality will be OK only since Netflix resolution for phone is not same as netflix from computer or xbox.
I've had some luck with the cheap Chinese ones on Ebay. My first one was bad, but then the seller was nice enough to ship me a new one at no charge. The second one works just fine and I have been using it for a while now.

I did the same thing. Bought the adaptor. Works well.
Charge, stock-rooted.. XDA Premium
Like above posters I too went on the cheap side (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003UH0Z9Q). The price is 2.50 for the cable. The first one didn't last to long (that's cause the toddlers were using it as a jump rope). I bought another one cause its 2 bux and that one has worked fine for the past 3 months. The ones at best buy is 30 bux!!! Ill spend 2 bux and take my chances. So far luck has been on my side.

[Q] Galaxy s3 1535 9300 difference? (HDMI out related)

Here is my goal: We purchased the gameklip for our phones, and I want to run emulators, and play some games with the video streaming to our mitsubishi 82" 82742 tv. (We'll also do various video mirroring to the tv, for things like ebook/ecomic reading, android based games, or other apps.)
Plans are to use the wireless version of the gameklip so the hdmi port is freed up for hdmi out/charging, so I'm looking to buy an hdmi out adapter/cable for our S3 1535 phones, but every product advert I see for them lists the 9300, not the 1535.
What are the difference between the phones, and should I be looking for something specific to the 1535? (I couldn't find any online comparisons between the verizon 1535 and the 9300.)
It looks like the hdmi adapters can be had for about $10 shipped on ebay or amazon.
We were running our old droidx phone's hdmi out to the tv before our new phones. It looks like the old droidx hdmi cable has a micro hdmi port for the phone, and the S3 adapters give you a full sized hdmi out.
I think I need the latest jellybean leak, the 9300 hdmi adapter, and a new 12' hdmi cable, or do those adapters also have a micro hdmi on them as well?
Also it sounds like to use the home theater, I'll also need to add a audio cable to plug into the home theater (or does the s3 hdmi out also pass through audio to the tv speakers? using the tv speakers would be fine.) Worse case I can use my bt stereo headset, but audio coming from the tv or home theater would be nice.
(Sorry for all the questions, but we are still on a learning curve coming from the DX.)
You want a 9305 quad core with 2gig of ram. i535 is only a dual core and the 9300 only has 1gig of ram.

I think you misunderstood my question. We already have the Verizon Galaxy S3 phones. we are looking to what we need to hook them up properly to our bigscreen tv to mirror video/audio out.
I'd Say go to Verizon buy an mhl adapter around$40 don't buy the cheap ones doesn't work well . it
allows you to mirror, games and all

Mhl is a service key piece that let's mhl compatible tvs to control the device remotely with the channel changer. Since most hdmi tvs don't have this (mhl) they make an adapter for basic hdmi out usage since it is different protocols.

I can confirm that the Samsung HDMI adapter that is specific for the S3 works for the I-535.
$20 on Amazon.

Thanks for the info, and relocating this to the proper location, Mod.
I also looked into wirelessly sending video/audio via the samsung allshare dongle for our tv, but it sounds like it still does not receive 1080p, and some people have all sorts of connect/frame dropout issues with that.
It sounds like the newest jellybean leaks improve the situation, but spending $80 hoping it gets resolved doesn't sound very practical to me.
I think we'll go with the mhl adapter. I checked my droidx cable, and it does have a full sized at one end, and a micro hdmi at the other end. 8(
Is monoprice still the best place for low prices on hi speed hdmi cables? I'll need a 12 footer to stretch from the couch to the phone.
I've heard good things about Monoprice, but haven't used them personally.

Holy crap are they expensive! $10.50 plus shipping for a 1 foot long cable? Are they smoking crack?
I purchased 3 6 foot long hi speed hdmi cables off ebay just a few weeks ago for less than $10 shipped.
I haven't seen any validation for premium expensive hdmi cables anywhere... every time you read reviews, unless you are running extremely long distances (20 feet or more) everyone says all hi speed rated cables are pretty much the same regardless of price.

I might have looked at the wrong cables then. Thanks for that info again!
I have a feeling we'll just go with the hdmi adapter and the cable.. it sounds like the samsung allshare dongle just is not ready for prime time yet.

5 star products Amazon Fire TV Stick
I recommend you get a Amazon Fire TV Stick, I purchased a M8 android box 2 months ago but just found the amazon stick & am now gonna sell my M8 box because the stick can do almost everything that the M8 box can do (within reason), I have just bought another one for our bedroom & just bought one for my dad too! That's how much I like it. I have Kodi running on it & also the Showbox app so that just about covers all the best streaming out at the moment, it's fast & easy to use & on the up side it's very portable if you travel not far you can bring the streaming with you. I paid £25 (reduced price) for my first stick on Amazon & purchasedecision my second & third via Argos for £30 each but the normal price is £35 in the UK. Hope this helps

I have watched a review about amazon stick and Iwas impressed by this device and you confirm it.
The only one limitation is that I live in italy and here amazon stick is not just arrived. The second is that I watch sport on rojadirecta site or torrent stream reactor apk and I don't know if it's possible to install this apk and to watch rojadirecta I had to browse this site from my tablet because amazon stick hasn't a browser: is it right that hasn't a browser?
Thanks a lot for your replay
Not sure about the browser because I have no use for that cause I have a phone or laptop for that but it's probably possible? You can install a app via the Google play app store called Apps 2 Fire which with that app you can import downloads or installed apps from your phone to the Fire TV Stick! You can also mirror your phone too ?

Best and cheapest android stick

What's the best android stick for your TV? I got a cheap one from eBay thinking I could stream movies from my laptop to the TV, but it won't let me do that
hi,
to stream via dlna or miracast, your stick must support that. always check the protocol used by the stick before buying and the possibilities of your hardware.
