Greetings.
After going crazy looking for a phone to replace my Nexus 5 and not finding one that ticks all the boxes, I'm planning on getting a Galaxy S6. I'm not a fan of Touchwiz, but overall it seems to be the phone that best suits me. (Size, great camera, fast performance)
However today I was trying out a couple Samsung phones at a Sammie counter and I noticed the Galaxy S6 edge+ has shutter speed control on Pro mode. While the regular S6 (the one I'm interested in) doesn't.
Aren't the cameras the same on both models?
A friend who works at Samsung (marketing department) said he's pretty sure the regular S6 has shutter speed control on Pro mode.
I can't seem to find information on it o.o
So how is it? Does it have it now because of some software update? If not, is it in Samsung plans to bring it soon?
On a different note, is there anything terrible bad about the S6 I should be aware of before buying it? Random and formed opinions on the phone seem to be pretty good, but I wonder...
Thanks in advance
Your friend works at samsung and he gave you false info... no the Galaxy S6 has a max of 0.5 sec shutter speed and is only accessible with 3rd party camera apps and that really sucks
What?! even with third party software it's limited to 0.5 secs?
That sucks.
Well, I've also been looking at the LG g4. Does anyone have any experience with both phones?
The camera has more options however LG's software experience is even worse than Samsung I think. Plus the camera ain't always better
However, longer shutter is coming, as it is already included in the S6E+. Probably with the next update or Android 6
Hopefully!
Is there anything I should be aware about the S6?
One of the things I like the least on it is the notification menu full of buttons... I much rather have the Google's approach with a second page for the settings. Is it something you can change with root?

Hi I was just wondering where did you find that shutter speed for the samsung s6 and do you know what the default is I need to find this information for the s6 and iphone 6 but shutter speed along with information on the lens manufacture seems to be extremely difficult to find for some reason.

I have a note 4 with T-Mobile right now. I don't mind the lack of a SD slot or removable battery. I also am tired of no lollipop on my note 4. I do want to avoid bloated touch wiz lag and battery issues. Thoughts?
lol, sounds like you need a change of manafacturer.
I have an S6 pre-order but after doing more research I think I'll cancel it, the lack of removable batt and expandable storage not to mention the possible need for two screen protectors front and back(OCD)no IP rating, no USB3.0(S4), its a downgrade from S5.
Camera is same as GN4, same ram, slightly upgraded CPU, smaller screen and all glass this thing is going to be very cold to the touch like Sony device, compared to GN4. Nevertheless I'll try to hold reservations until it is in my hand.

I don't mind a change in manufacturer, but I want to keep the same concepts within my next device: fingerprint scanner, high end processor, good build quality, lot of RAM. I also want timely updates too. iPhone 6+ has too little ram and a high price tag. Waiting on HTC's One Max M9 or LG G4 or Xperia Z4.

You sound like you need a nexus 6! Z4 is questionable because if SONY does shutdown smart phone branch it may never see any future updates. HTC max may be out around the time of Note 5 announcement so you might as well wait a little longer and get that. G4 I think is the phone that might compete closest to S6 IMO, and might beat it in terms of keeping sd, and large removal battery, unless they pull a Samsung!

I used a Nexus 6, but I didn't like the battery life as much as the Note 4. It has good, but bland software since it lacks in features if anything.
Maybe you need a s6 edge

It's too expensive lol. I am looking to spend no more than $100+ Note 4 money.
I would wait to see how the TW 5.0.x Lollipop behaves on the Note 4 and it should be out soon. I have the same dilemma about upgrading from a much older device (S4) and though I really want a new gadget I just can't justify the move frankly (except for the camera quality).

Install 'Nova Launcher' answer set as your default. It doesn't completely disable TouchWiz functionality but it has proven to be a speed increase and overall better Home Launcher. It's free on the PlayStore.
I've been using it since it was first released and will never use another app for my Android. Enjoy.

I will give it a try, but for now, I am waiting for reviews and to demo the S6.
This describes me exactly. Tired of laggy touchwiz. How could a beast of a phone loke the note 4 seem less than buttery smooth?
Temporarily using a z3 and it's smooooth, but camera is mediocre at best. Gosh darn it, I just want a smooth phone with a great camera. Hope that's s6
I'm not sure how you consider the note 4 a laggy phone. Go check the note 4 vs any other phone and you ll see that it's actually faster than the iPhone 6 And many others.
Once lollipop comes out for your note.. Put your xperia and note side by side and see which is faster.

Man I love the Nexus 6. If only it were 5.5", bigger battery, and better camera, it would be the perfect phone.
I have a nex 6 and I want an s6 after reading this forum and all the previews and reviews. My only issue is I had a note 4 and now the nex 6 and the s6 screen is almost a whole 1 inch smaller. Not a deal breaker but wish it was at least 5.5
90% chance I will buy it anyway
Hello everybody. Does anyone know when and if samsung will update the camera software on the Galaxy S6 with raw support and shutter speed control like Note 5 or S6 edge plus? The hardware is identical, so it should be only a software improvement. And until then, is there a custom rom that ported the new camera app to Galaxy S6?

The 5.1.1 update was supposed to bring raw support. Sure speed control on the other hand I have heard nothing about

Well, seems like Shamesung has pulled a new low move from the shame hat. I just went an tested in a store a brand new s6 edge plus, installed Aida64, and the entire camera system, front and back sensor, image processing, etc, are exactly the same (this was Sony sensor). So they are trying to differentiate the Galaxy S6 from the more "pro" S6 edge+ or Note 5 just by software gimmiks... I am very disappointed, i payed a premium price for my Galaxy, it's only 4 months old... i want the phone to be the best as it can be, not artificially "gimped".
Hey all,
I'm currently planning on upgrading my Nexus 5 with either the Nexus 6P or Galaxy S7.
I'm a very big fan of the Nexus series ever since I switched from the S3 to my N5, by that time Touchwiz was a real mess and changing ROMs to non Samsung-based ones ****ed up the S3 camera performance somehow. But one thing that really annoyes me regarding the N5 is how slow its camera auto focus is. I keep missing a lot of spontaneous shots because it takes sooo long for it to focus (sometimes it doesn't focus at all!).
My question(s): did anyone had a chance to play with both the N6P and S7 cameras? Is the S7 really much faster? Were you able to take photos of moving objects easily with both phones?
I've seen a lot of camera comparisons and, honestly, I think the picture quality of both seem good enough for me. But those reviews don't focus much on shutter speed, moving objects, etc.
Thanks!

Thanks for the video! S7 camera seems really fast to focus indeed! Just wonder how would the 6p camera compare to it.

It would be closer to your n5, slow like molasses. If you want instant autofocus the s7 is the only phone that can do it.
Anyone owning s10e. Do you have such thing that camera diaphragm is being closed and reopened on every camera mode switch? In quiet room it sounds at least strange.
Is the sound troubling to you? Is it affecting image quality?
My s8 and s9 did it, so it seems like its normal.

Only sound. First time having Samsung + a phone with OIS and variable diaphragm. Thought it's a hardware issue.
+ I've already submitted a but about camera closing and reopening diaphragm on photo mode switch. It's definitely looks like a bug. No need to close it and reopen. But I guess one UI will be bugged for a while same as s10e line will be somewhat bugged and patched a lot.

Just received my S10+ today, so I have the same confusion as OP since it's my first Samsung phone. Does the diaphragm change even for switching from photo to video? This seems quite unnecessary given no change in light condition and can eventually cause wear and tear.
The only time it didn't change was when I switched from Slow Motion to Super Slow-Mo.
Hey I have the same 'problem' on my S10+ and wondering if it's normal or an issue... It does a click sounds when changing camera modes
If it's not affecting the quality of my videos or photos I wouldn't worry about it. Longevity of the mechanics of the part is something to keep in mind but I can't see it as something that would wear out before the warranty expires.
Update: I went to test the devices at my nearby retail stores.
All of the S10 devices have the same clicking sounds. The Note 9 was silent, while the S9 was barely audible.
I guess they just didn't dampen the sound as much or something to that effect.

OH, so you have real s10 phones in your local stores? Because in Ukraine official Samsung store guys actually told me that presented devices look like original BUT inside CPU is different, camera is somewhat the same (WTF does it mean O_O) and the only thing that matches real devices there is screen. So I couldn't actually reproduce that noise at store and the only thing that calmed me down was that other owners of S10 confirmed ticking noise.
Its normal. My P20 Pro rattles until I open the camera app, then the OIS kicks in and holds the lens still. Similar sort of thing, the phone isn't going to hold the camera active when not in use, wastes power.
Pubg lag
Guys does pubg stutters on ur s10.
Similar sound was experienced on my s7. S10 does the plus many other phones like nokia 1020 used to make similar noise. I don't think its a problem.

Yes its the variable aperture switching between f 1.5 and 2.2. Its definitely louder on the S10. I have the S10+ and S10e and on both it's quite noticeable when opening the camera and switching modes. Does this on the google pixel camera port as well.
Guys this is NORMAL. The Galaxy S9+ did this, too, with its dual aperture.
It changes when opening some apps -- if it isn't supposed to always do it that often then Samsung can adjust it with a software update.
Ever used a real camera? They are much louder than this when changing.
My s9+ did not do this unless it switched aperture. Never when I opened the camera. My s10e does it every time camera is opened like it switches apertures every time.

Hi, I'm currently using a S8 plus. I'm thinking off upgrading to the S10e. Has anyone who currently owns this device confirm if the S10e is a good upgrade from the S8 plus? Is battery much better? Is camera significantly better etc etc?
Any help and feedback is appreciated.
Thanks

Did exactly that while also having the S9 for a week. S8->S9 is a slight upgrade. Camera is a bit better, speakers and stereo-sound is a nice upgrade and it is slightly snappier. The One UI 2 Upgrade also brings much better RAM Management and Apps in the background close less often and the new Fingerprint location is easier to reach. Battery seemed slightly better but the S8 was also older and so might not have had its full capacity in comparison.
S8/S9->S10e is a much bigger upgrade. Camera is leagues ahead and the extra wide angle gives you so much more room to play with. Snappiness again increased and you absolutely feel the 2GB more RAM throughout the day (No closed Apps in the background). Battery seems the same in my use case to the S9. The speakers feels to be a downgrade from the S9 tho as they start crackling when on (near) full volume while the S9 speaker seemed better tuned. The new fingerprint sensor in the power button is also nice to have as i often want to take a glance while the phone is lying on the table. Missed the function to unlock without having to pick the phone up since i left my S7 behind.
All in all the S10e is a distinct upgrade over the S8. If anyone reading this got an S9, then its mostly the camera and maybe the extra RAM depending on your use case. It won't feel as a big upgrade if your already running One UI 2 and don't have Apps closing on you or want the latest camera tech.
With GCAM (look for Zexynos) the S8 and S9 look the same btw and easily crush the S10(e) in many cases.
All the above is for the Exynos variants. With Snapdragon speed increases could be bigger but battery differences could be lower.
Sorry but my opinion after upgrading from an S8 to S10 is don't do it.
I have found the camera on the 10e to be worse in every way from the S8.
My wife usually takes my old phone each time i upgrade but she has already told me she does not want this one when i change and i may decide to get rid of it early even though i only got it in September 19.
In daylight, the camera is fine but as soon as you move in doors to artificial or low light, it is woeful.
If you zoom in the pictures are full of noise and they look fake, i have pictures where skin has large chunks looking waxy or plastic, way too over processed.
If you look at Samsungs own forum for S10/S10E you will find loads of posts all around the same issues.
What makes it more annoying is the adverts and initial reviews stated the camera was professional quality yet a recent write up i seen about the soon to be released S11 was that it aimed to improve on the S10 camera which was inferior to the Pixel 3.
Other features of phone are decent but the S8 is also a very capable phone.
My own intention for the future is to move away from Samsung despite being with them since the S2 as it is the first time i have felt the new phone is inferior to the previous one.
Good luck with whatever you decide to go with.
Thanks for the replies. In all honesty I'd prefer to get the S10+ but it seems to be quite expensive still. I was thinking towards the S10e instead since it's cheaper but might hold out for something else.
