Forgive my ignorance but I'll keep this simple. I'm on 4.4.2 s-off and rooted. I'm wondering how to upgrade to the latest firmware without losing my data or s-off by using twrp. I'm no girl scout, I've taken a break of Rom developing & nodding. I've been declining the ota for over a year and 69x times a day. And for the life of me I couldn't find a solution today :/

Flashing firmware will get you up-to-date without losing data, or any storage.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62734094&postcount=2
And the only way to lose S-OFF is by running the adb cmd.

@dottat Your awesome! So just to clarify since I've been living under a rock. I can run this RUU on my 4.4.2 m8. And it wont wipe any data (on the internal sd, like apps, messages, music ect...), will not change my s-off to s-on when running, and won't have to run a bunch of incremental updates and will give up to date ratios. Sorry i'm really over-analyzing, it's just It's been awhile, and i'm a bit nervous because all the data I have and how sacred my s-off is.

No it's not the same, it's not rooted or tampered with, and the installation method is different. If you want to completely unroot your phone go flash the stock ruu

You did ask if we needed another. A RUU is essential for every official update IMHO

No you will not loose those things. The first post describes how to get into bootloader after flashing the update. Only your system partition (rom) and kernel will be the official ruu images.
I just noticed there may be a problem with the name of the .zip. There is a gap in the name so you will probably have to rename it and delete the gap in order for the recovery to be able to flash it.
I will work on fixing it later on but for now renaming it won't hurt the update at all
Thanks again, you have just created my new "fall back plan"...

This is also good for devs to get a chance to try the stock ota if they want to mess around with it. That was the main reason for this update. Hopefully someone will help to get the bootloader unlocked for people who buy a new evo shift . But luckily this update doesn't already have the locked bootloader in it

Typically any Official update will break #SU access and sometimes cause a serious headache in the process.
If you are rooted, do not apply the update. Just wait for a kitchen baked variant to be released.

maybe fixes visual voicemail bug?
For about 6 weeks I've been having issues with the stock visual voicemail app force-closing every time I tried to use it. I tried going into the app's settings area and clearing its data, then re-enabling it in the caller app, all to no avail.
I just installed this update and it looks like my VVM is working again, so I'm hoping this was indeed a known issue and was fixed.
(FTR, I'm not sure that a factory reset before the update wouldn't have fixed the problem, but I didn't feel like re-installing all my apps so I let it go and just used the old-school voicemail number for a while.)
Is there anyway possible for me to get the update because i had s-off and then i wanted to unroot but i used gfree so i had to use gfree and ran into a crap load of problems leaving me right now with s-off and no root permissions . i need to get a new mytouch because this one randomly restarts and i cant send in one with s-off... can anyone help me out?

Is there anything in this radio other than a new radio and new hboot?
I'm s-off via engineering bootloader, NOT gfree. Is it worth the trouble to use gfree so I can ruu and stay s-off, accept the update, then flash clockworkmod recovery via bootloader, then go back to cm7?

I installed titanium backup again to get my things back and it tells me I have no root. I say whaaaaa!? I then download a rootchecker app from the store and it confirms I have no root. How the world did that happen?
I panicked and booted into recovery and restored the backup I made before flashing the ROM. Now I can get back into fastboot and recovery but when I try to boot up it is a black screen. Should I RUU and start all over or am I salvageable?
