I tried searching google for any info on this update. It appears you are the first and only to mention it!
Looking forward to hearing more about it. I wonder if this will roll out in the West or just in India.
Thanks for the notice, and please keep us posted!

In az just checked and i have the same update available

Question, will this break root?

That's really the important question.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the Carrier IQ mess.

Typically any Official update will break #SU access and sometimes cause a serious headache in the process.
If you are rooted, do not apply the update. Just wait for a kitchen baked variant to be released.

The ones in the radio thread stickied in the development section are ok to flash. They are setup properly for root. Bluetooth definitely got some attention in this update. Much more stable connection than before, not perfect, but much better and livable.

What changes are included in this update? Any chance sense 3.0 is included?

I just applied this update on my wife's phone that is stock 2.3.4...don't notice anything different so far, no sense 3.0 or anything.

maybe fixes visual voicemail bug?
For about 6 weeks I've been having issues with the stock visual voicemail app force-closing every time I tried to use it. I tried going into the app's settings area and clearing its data, then re-enabling it in the caller app, all to no avail.
I just installed this update and it looks like my VVM is working again, so I'm hoping this was indeed a known issue and was fixed.
(FTR, I'm not sure that a factory reset before the update wouldn't have fixed the problem, but I didn't feel like re-installing all my apps so I let it go and just used the old-school voicemail number for a while.)

Is there anyway possible for me to get the update because i had s-off and then i wanted to unroot but i used gfree so i had to use gfree and ran into a crap load of problems leaving me right now with s-off and no root permissions . i need to get a new mytouch because this one randomly restarts and i cant send in one with s-off... can anyone help me out?

Is there anything in this radio other than a new radio and new hboot?
I'm s-off via engineering bootloader, NOT gfree. Is it worth the trouble to use gfree so I can ruu and stay s-off, accept the update, then flash clockworkmod recovery via bootloader, then go back to cm7?
That's exactly what I did with the sensation.

Still broke.
The file is up on the HTC site if you go to htc.com and navigate to the Aria downloads section. Not sure why his link isn't working. Here is what's listed as the changes.
What’s included:
Firmware Over The Air Activation (FOTA) capability implemented
Bluetooth Update
Calendar Fix for recurring meetings: When recurring meetings are modified on the device, they are not syncing the changes with the Microsoft Exchange Server

just wondering if i do this will i lose clockwork recovery.
Yes you will lose Clockwork recovery. You will have to use unrevoked again if you want it back.
I'm all for the latest and greatest, but idk about this one. Most likely we're just gonna get stuck with a bloated froyo build with all the restrictions of at&t. I say, if you want to stay Stock, go with this ROM, otherwise i think CM's 6.0.2.1 is gonna be the better bet if you want more freedom.
I wouldn't mind giving it a shot if i didn't need to reload clockwork afterwards.
Did anybody already tried this update in their unlocked Aria?
Could this update revert the SIM unlock capabilities ?

yea, I don't see too much use for this. It's a pretty non-update, especially as Sense has a whole bunch of things that could use improvement. Probably just readying devices for Froyo... unless they fixed a lot of things that they don't list.

I went ahead and installed the update and there really isn't much to it except that under Settings there is now an AT&T software update option just before the About phone.
I was able to re-root using Unrevoked 3.0 with no problem.
Just for grins I extracted the ROM.zip file from the RUU and the images in the ZIP file were dated 6/11/2010, so it took AT&T 3 months to review and release this update! So depending on when HTC actually builds Froyo 2.2 for the Aria it could take AT&T about 3 months before we see it...

Tom

Actually, it's only been out since 9/24. They pushed out this update on that date...it was rumored an update was coming about a week before, but 9/3 is way too early
Also, this is the first time I have seen an actual RUU for 3.29. All other threads that reference the RUUs only have the 3.26 RUUs.
Thank you, this was very timely for me since I was looking for this very thing as you posted this.

Maybe not the best place for this question, but where do people get these? Do you have to have a mole with HTC or Sprint (or Sprint vendors like Best Buy)?

If/when you see the OTA update...

Please check /cache and copy all files from it before rebooting to install.
That way, we can get a copy.
For more advanced users, please run a logcat during download process, so that we can try and get a URL to download it manually.
Thanks!

Honestly I am noobish myself but from what I understand if you CAN get the update, it may unroot your device but you just have to do the last few steps of the rooting process over to gain root again. If you are using a custom ROM you may have to manually push the update to the phone.
Again this is not absolute but this is what I believe to be true. If I am mistaken please correct me. This is why I think the OP wants to be able to download it from a website...and also to tear it down for any new goodies

If that's the case, there must be a way to block or prevent this. Would any devs care to add their valuable input?
Would switching to an AOSP make any difference?
The release date is 05/03/2011. That means, we have ample time to get a plan in place. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would hate to re-root their phone.
Is it possible for them to lock the bootloader with this OTA?

I would say switching to aosp would prevent it as it prevented the updating of the prl.
No. In motorola phones they are locked by hardware. If you were to install a new kernel it trips a component that basically bricks your phone and to disable the trip you would need to crack military grade encryption. We are okay.

According to this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027706) in the development forum, CM7 is listed under "AOSP Based." As for senseless ROM's, I think it depends on the specific ROM in question, as some are and some aren't (but I could be wrong).

AT&T OTA Unsuccessful

I'm trying to update my HOX and for some reason it won't happen. My phone downloads the latest OTA (4.0.4?), the phone restarts, goes to the install screen, the progress bar gets a quarter of the way, then a phone with a red triangle pops up. I have no idea what's happening. The phone will eventually restart again, and a pop up will show up and say, "update unsuccessful, please try again later."
Can someone please shed some knowledge. I'm pretty sure this phone isn't rooted or anything. Android is pretty new to me, coming from iOS after 5 years.
It's helping you from making a mistake.
If you accept the ota, then it's lights out for you if you want to unlock or root. Search a little bit, there's a thread with a pre-rooted 2.20 update on here. I'd recommend that. Good luck!
PS: My phone did the same exact thing. I was rooted, which I undid temporarily using Voodoo Rootkeeper, and also I had uninstalled some system bloatware using Titanium Backup. That was enough to cause the ota to fail. Thankfully.

Not sure what the problem is but if your dead set on taking the update and losing the ability to root or unlock in the near future the ruu is availible in the dev section or you can download it direct from HTC dev. I would highly recommend you do a little more reading before taking the plunge

Thanks guys. I'll do a little more reading I guess. I'm not that concerned about rooting. Just want this phone updating and to figure why this is happening.

Hold your tongue before the angry mob of pitchfork-weilding purists descend on you for not wanting to root! LOL
If you're new, I guess it makes sense, but there is a lot you can do with root, pretty basic stuff, that you can't without it. Like fixing the linkify issue and unlock the tethering app, and the built in tools like flashlight and the FM tuner.
So let the ota fail all it wants while you do some homework. Then call the shot. Good luck.

The Android gods are trying to give you a second chance at rooting. Consider yourself lucky.
Titanium backup your apps+data, factory reset. Anyone else think of anything different?

i would root the phone just to remove the bloatware, AT&T installs alot of it and some your can uninstall with titanium backup some youll want to freeze to make sure it doesnt F your system up. so much crap installed out of the box. Cleanrom is good, and i have used the prerooted 2.20 update as well both are good, im currently back to cleanrom, runs stable and i dont have to go crazy freezing and removing bloat

Rooting is growing on me. Pretty much like jailbreaking an iDevice?
Anyway, I upgraded my HOX using the computer RUU program from HTC's site. Can the phone still be rooted? I read something about a One-Click Root. Can someone point me in the right direction as I continue gathering knowledge
*edit*
Can the One X be downgraded back to previous firmwares? I'm on 2.20 now, from reading, it doesn't look like there's a root.

There is currently no root exploit for the 2.20 update and because there was also a new hboot in that update downgrades are not possible either

Ah, okay. Typical rookie mistake and upgrading. Guess, I'll be waiting for one then. With rooting are there any ETA's on when one will be out, or the developers keep it hush-hush like iOS guys?
I really do want to take this AT&T crap off my phone but I shall wait

No eta most of the work on any root exploit is usually done behind the scenes more because of the fact that some previous exploits were security holes so not revealing till it is verified as working prevents att or HTC to block or patch it.
