I've been on the lookout for a kernel for the ST21i for a while now. All I want is a kernel that lets me overclock it as the stock kernel doesn't. I have stock ICS (build 11.0.A.4.22) and unlocked bootloader (I think) and root. I haven't flashed the Enigma or Vengeance ones because they replace the custom recovery so if anything goes wrong, I can't flash the stock kernel back (I do have CWM right now). Or am I wrong, is it possible that I can somehow get the stock kernel backed up onto my computer and flash it if something goes wrong the same way I would flash a custom kernel?
Thanks to anyone who replies

Ok, first of all try to confirm that your bootloader is unlocked (the last thing you want is a hard bricked device)
-Of course, vengeance and enigma kernels are going to replace the custom recovery, because they have cmw built-in, so if anything goes wrong (even if you formatted the /system partition) you will be able to boot to recovery
so here's the thing: if your bootloader is unlocked, then go for it :good: just make sure you have flashtool installed on your computer and the firmware "ftf" file just in case (you know, if you got it hard bricked)
and try installing custom ICS ROMs, they perform better than CM based ROMs.
take care!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to answer!
1) Do you know of any way to find out if the bootloader is unlocked? When I "unlocked" it I got some conflicting messages, but when I reran the bootloader unlock script again it said my bootloader was already unlocked, so ... we'll see.
2) Now I need flashtool for Xperia then, as well as the stock ftf file.
3) Wait, what do I need a different ROM for? I'm happy with the stock Xperia ROM, all I want is to overclock. To my knowledge the ROM shouldn't affect the tweakability of the kernel, right?

1)If the bootloader script said that your bootloader is unlocked, then you're good to go
2)flashtool is available for download from the official site, just ggogle it
here's xperia tipo ftf file https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B2TyPtpp6xXkTWZoMU4yV1NRb1U/edit
3)The custom ROM was just a suggestion, you don't have to change your ROM If you are comfortable with it, to be happy is the most important thing
and yes, the ROM doesn't change the kernel abilities (tweaks, etc...)
Hope this helps :good:
So then what kernel are you using on your ST21i2?

I downloaded the latest version and it detected my Xperia tipo dual (had to map it as xperia tipo ss, but you don't have to map your since you have tipo ss, it will be detected automatically)
download and test it, if anything goes wrong, PM me so I can provide you with a link for an older version that worked for me, will be sent to you via PM :good:
Right ho, another annoying question then.
We know that the official Flashtool works then, but I have seen a lot of Xperia hackers use Androxyde's Flashtool, at http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
Does it matter which one I use?

After using flashtool to install new roms and kernals, I think I may have installed a rom that was not for my exact spec. So after flashing the rom, my phone does not allow me to use any touch screen keys, and I think has overwritten CWM. I have tried Sony Update through PC Companion and it told me that my phone could not be updated. What can I do ?
try to download stock/rooted rom for your device exactly and install it trough flashtool, maybe that will work
I have tried this now. Flashtool does install, but I cannot get past first screen after install. The touch keys stiil do not work.

well, read here and use that CWM recovery just flash it and enter recovery mode ( I mean you don't have a working rom but a recovery ) when in recovery try to navigate menus then use back sensor-button
if this is working is a good sign if not you have to replace touchscreen I suggest to perform this check before !
I tell you this because you just flashed a ROM ...are you sure it was made for your phone ?
if not it's possible to cause damage to your phone drivers usually are placed in boot.img -your kernel be careful when flashing a new kernel!
Right now my phone does not respond to the install CWm2file, is this the correct thing to do when you say "use that CWM recovery just flash it and enter recovery mode". I am really hoping this phone can be saved somehow.

Download this file, extract it and flash the ftf file inside it via flashtool (Make sure u tick wipe cache & wipe user data on the ftf selection page):
https://rapidshare.com/files/477812782/wt19i_stock_rom_0.62_with_root.zip
Its a rooted stock ROM for Live with walkman...Then download the attached file to get CWM...extract the files to a folder and do as directed in the notepad file (make sure u keep usb debugging and unknown sources on...use the install-cwm2 file..its the one for our phone)..
Now, you should be having a stock kernel, stock rom, with root and CWM...check ur touch keys now...
*IMPORTANT*And always remember...once you've rooted ur phone and unlocked the bootloader...never use PC companion OR OTA updates (on the phone) for updating..it'll brick ur phone..:crying: *IMPORTANT*
PS: Hope i could help..Hit thanks if i did!
PS2: this thread contains all the ROMs which are made for our phone..so before flashing a ROM..please make sure u check if its made for our phone...

firstly I hope you solve that problem because I don't like problems too
-is your bootloader unlocked can you see something on screen when starting
-what about last rom flashed
-can you flash any rom but made for your phone only
-don't use PC Companion at this time
Bootloader IS unlocked. When starting I get Sony Ericsson Start up, and then home screen. Volume works, On/off works. but no touchscreen at all. I can flash a rom using Flashtool, but when try and flash a kernal Flashtool does not let me use flashboot mode. It tell me that Device not connected. This happened before messing up my touchscreen, and I solved it by putting phone in different connection mode.
All this came about because I flashed '[GB rom] X-royal v14 only for lww' and rage kernal, and prob was not for my spec phone.
From this webpage: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650365
So phone has been off for two days now.
Has the problem been solved?

Hi there
I am working on two ROMs for Xperia L. One will be based on stock and other will be build from source.
You can request what do you think is missing and I will try to port/tweek/build missing features :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470733
However, I can not find any ftf or any recovery.img files around here of any recovery. I personally prefer CWM but I wouldnot mind any.
I am more keen on working on rom so I do not wish to invest alot of time in CWM for now.
Can anyone individually post it here ? I do not want to change my kernel from stock as I personally want to tweek the kernel. Thus, if anyone can, do share!
Also, if anyone can point me towards CWM of a different device but uses almost the same hardware as Xperia L. I know HTC One SV is similar but i havenot come across any standalone recovery.
I have tried to mod CWM but either access is denied or stock recovery isnot replaced by CWM. I am rebooting into stock recovery only.
For Noobs to avoid unnecessary questions/ answers :
Yes, I have SuperSU installed with busybox and working drivers. I know what I am doing but I just can not push CWM on Xperia L.

Start from scratch.
I have made a tool to pack CWM to any kernel for Xperia M, but I think with minor (or even no) modifications you can use it with Xperia L. Of course you need to replace the kernel and ramdisk for this to work.

Root status: Permission Denied
Lets keep this thread reserved only for discussion related to rooting this phone. We haven't achieved root yet but I know the way to do it.
You need to follow this guide in order to root your device: http://whiteboard.ping.se/Android/Rooting
So till now I have been able to:
-Build a new kernel
-Unpacked the kernel using kernel kitchen by championswimmer and flashtool(for the sin file)
-.Made the changes in ramdisk
But the next step requires packing it back again. And for doing that you need the cmdline from the kernel.
Its located in /proc/cmdline.
I tried to view it via adb but obviously the system denied the permission because of no root.
Usually you can easily obtain cmdline parameters from the boot.img itself, but in this case, Sony has done some shizz so that you cant obtain it directly. Plus this is my first Sony device so I dont have much knowledge regarding this..
I wont get much time to work on it becuz of my exams.. that's why this thread is here
If you can help/contribute in any way then you are surely welcome. But no noob posts here.
@InfinityShooter use archi's kitchen for unpacking boot.img
first convert stock kernel.sin file to boot.img(by just renaming it)
archi's kitchen will give you the cmdline and other parameters to pack the kernel..

I don't know if this can help at all: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659584.
It's been ages since I gave up on linux, even as an amateur, so my knowledge is quite limited and, to be honest, a lot of hunch is involved. That's why I am so hesitant at trying this myself.
Anyway I hope this helps a bit.
Also you can get the latest firmware for D2203 (18.4.C.2.12) from here: https://mega.co.nz/#!bMBg1Rqa!aqGcTv6ved0ifh867pbnVVsc-4t55lR9OOij1iSiNLA, which means that one can probably try without unlocking the bootloader...
I have already made the kernel but needs testing. Anyone here with unlocked bootloader and d2202 can try hotboot this using flash tool.
http://d-h.st/rx7e
Try at your own risk.
There is 0% chance of bricking if you hotboot it.
DO NOT FLASH IT
I've tried the kernel. But I do not know how to enter CWM, whether the kernel already include CWM?
No it is not cwm you have to use adb to mount /system as read/write then push su to /system/bin and you will get root. All you need is get superuser from playstore.

Not now.. only for d2202.
I don't know if this a noob question: in the tutorial InfinityShooter posted earlier it says that the phone must have an unlocked bootloader. Thing is that I am a bit confused in terms of whether the bootloader must be unlocked to obtain the system image or in order to fastboot the insecure image. If it is just to obtain the image then wouldn't it be possible to cook the insecure image using the ROM image that Sony distributed to developers, leading to a solution that doesn't interfere with the bootloader?
after I try the kernel, no bugs are found, everything works fine, like wifi and the other no problem, just given cwm to facilitate root...
CWM
Ok this is the second build of the cwm kernel
You can get it here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95832962473396055 Doesnt work
You have to HOTBOOT this kernel
Tell me if it works or not.
Troubleshooting:
If you are stuck at black screen then dont worry. Just press and hold power+vol up keys together for 20 seconds to reboot it.
On rebooting the system will automatically revert to stock kernel which you were using earlier.
Congrats! Your phone is working again!
i must have unlock bl?

Unfortunately yes. Bad thing is that when we unlock the bootloader the TA partition is formatted leading to various problems with Sony apps.
Okay I need help here. My testers report this kernel as working but it fails to work on my device. Please let me know what happens with you..
Link: http://d-h.st/NFR
Here are the EXACT things I do to flash it:
1. Open flashtool
2. Connect my phone
3. I click on thunder icon in flashtool and choose fastboot mode.
4.I click on "Reboot into fastboot mode[adb]"
5.I click on "Select kernel to hotboot" and open the boot.img inside it.
I look at my phone, its all dark. The blue light goes away
6.I click on check current device status and it shows adb connected
7.Orange led comes up as my phone is connected to pc
I see no sony logo or anything like that.
The screen is still BLACK! One thing I notice is that whenever I press the power key, the screen backlight turns on little bit enough for me to notice the varaiation.
Please post your intruction set if it works out for u.
I can't test it myself since I have locked bootloader but did you try to get a working adb shell at this state? If shell works then you might be able to push su and supersu to the device.

OK, so when you relocked your bootloader, this problem started, right?
did you flash a custom kernel before relocking your bootloader? if yes, then that's what we call "hard brick" for devices.
alright, here's what you have to do:
1) Don't panic, panicking makes things worse
2) flash stock kernel using flashtool (you don't have to re-flash the whole firmware) and you're done!
your phone will get back to life when you flash stock kernel :good:
hope this helps

Hi.
Without proper research, I unlocked the bootloader of my Sony Xperia Z5 (E6653) using the flashtool. I didnt know anything about the irreplaceable DRM keys. Something I very much regret. I further rooted my phone, installed a custom recovery (TWRP) but I am still running the official ROM (ver 7.1.1). My dilemma...
I need guidance to do the following if possible:
1) Unroot
2) simulate DRM (as my camera is rubbish now)
3) Return to stock recovery
How do I go about it? I unlocked my bootloader using the flashtool, if it changes anything. I did not backup DRM keys. Please help. TIA
Someone anyone !!!!!!!

Sorry but i'm afraid your original DRM keys are gone but on the bright side, you can flash kernels that simulate DRM keys restoring all the features you need.
Since you unlocked your bootloader why not try and flash newer custom ROMS?
