help with Xperia Live with Walkman (WT19i)

After using flashtool to install new roms and kernals, I think I may have installed a rom that was not for my exact spec. So after flashing the rom, my phone does not allow me to use any touch screen keys, and I think has overwritten CWM. I have tried Sony Update through PC Companion and it told me that my phone could not be updated. What can I do ?

try to download stock/rooted rom for your device exactly and install it trough flashtool, maybe that will work

I have tried this now. Flashtool does install, but I cannot get past first screen after install. The touch keys stiil do not work.

well, read here and use that CWM recovery just flash it and enter recovery mode ( I mean you don't have a working rom but a recovery ) when in recovery try to navigate menus then use back sensor-button
if this is working is a good sign if not you have to replace touchscreen I suggest to perform this check before !
I tell you this because you just flashed a ROM ...are you sure it was made for your phone ?
if not it's possible to cause damage to your phone drivers usually are placed in boot.img -your kernel be careful when flashing a new kernel!

Right now my phone does not respond to the install CWm2file, is this the correct thing to do when you say "use that CWM recovery just flash it and enter recovery mode". I am really hoping this phone can be saved somehow.

Download this file, extract it and flash the ftf file inside it via flashtool (Make sure u tick wipe cache & wipe user data on the ftf selection page):

Its a rooted stock ROM for Live with walkman...Then download the attached file to get CWM...extract the files to a folder and do as directed in the notepad file (make sure u keep usb debugging and unknown sources on...use the install-cwm2 file..its the one for our phone)..
Now, you should be having a stock kernel, stock rom, with root and CWM...check ur touch keys now...
*IMPORTANT*And always remember...once you've rooted ur phone and unlocked the bootloader...never use PC companion OR OTA updates (on the phone) for updating..it'll brick ur phone..:crying: *IMPORTANT*

firstly I hope you solve that problem because I don't like problems too
-is your bootloader unlocked can you see something on screen when starting
-what about last rom flashed
-can you flash any rom but made for your phone only
-don't use PC Companion at this time

Bootloader IS unlocked. When starting I get Sony Ericsson Start up, and then home screen. Volume works, On/off works. but no touchscreen at all. I can flash a rom using Flashtool, but when try and flash a kernal Flashtool does not let me use flashboot mode. It tell me that Device not connected. This happened before messing up my touchscreen, and I solved it by putting phone in different connection mode.
All this came about because I flashed '[GB rom] X-royal v14 only for lww' and rage kernal, and prob was not for my spec phone.

Does your CWM work?? i think the problem is that you're using stock kernel...because none of the other custom kernels show Sony Ericsson at startup...not even the ICS official sony stock kernel...Try flashing a different kernel...

Until last couple of minutes, I didn't even know that Sony Xperia - L provides a means to boot into Stock Recovery Mode.
How I can I take a backup of stock recovery image?
While flashing a custom ROM, does the recovery partition also gets overwritten?
After installing a recovery environment, e.g. CWM, is there any means to revert back to stock one?

If I'm not wrong.
1. Xperia doesn't have stock recovery image
2. Again, Xperia doesn't have recovery partition
3. Again and again, Xperia doesn't have stock recovery.
CWM and TWRP are integrated in kernel ramdisk. CMIIW

It has *some* sort of recovery environmrnt, if not a full-fledged one. Because, this method works.

NOTE
Sony Xperia devices don’t ship with a pre-installed recovery. So unless you’ve installed a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP on your device, you won’t be able to boot into recovery mode.

I know what's written over there. But that seems to be wrong. With adb reboot recovery, I am being able to boot into a minimalistic recovery environment. If you want, I can attach an image of what I land up at.

To install recovery, you need to have adb and adb drivers installed on your laptop, as well as as you phone needs to be rooted in some cases.

[WORK-IN-PROGRESS] Lets achieve root for E3-Almost there!!

Lets keep this thread reserved only for discussion related to rooting this phone. We haven't achieved root yet but I know the way to do it.

So till now I have been able to:
-Build a new kernel
-Unpacked the kernel using kernel kitchen by championswimmer and flashtool(for the sin file)
-.Made the changes in ramdisk
But the next step requires packing it back again. And for doing that you need the cmdline from the kernel.
Its located in /proc/cmdline.
I tried to view it via adb but obviously the system denied the permission because of no root.
Usually you can easily obtain cmdline parameters from the boot.img itself, but in this case, Sony has done some shizz so that you cant obtain it directly. Plus this is my first Sony device so I dont have much knowledge regarding this..
I wont get much time to work on it becuz of my exams.. that's why this thread is here

first convert stock kernel.sin file to boot.img(by just renaming it)
archi's kitchen will give you the cmdline and other parameters to pack the kernel..

It doesn't work. Sony uses a different kind of boot.img. I have tried dsixda kitchen also, it didnt work out.

oh !!! my old sony xperia m used have kernel .sin which used to convert to boot.img by renaming....
Hmmm... how about using a dd command to extract boot.img to sdcard and then unpack it in archi's kitchen????

It's been ages since I gave up on linux, even as an amateur, so my knowledge is quite limited and, to be honest, a lot of hunch is involved. That's why I am so hesitant at trying this myself.
Anyway I hope this helps a bit.
Also you can get the latest firmware for D2203 (18.4.C.2.12) from here: https://mega.co.nz/#!bMBg1Rqa!aqGcTv6ved0ifh867pbnVVsc-4t55lR9OOij1iSiNLA, which means that one can probably try without unlocking the bootloader...

I have already made the kernel but needs testing. Anyone here with unlocked bootloader and d2202 can try hotboot this using flash tool.

No it is not cwm you have to use adb to mount /system as read/write then push su to /system/bin and you will get root. All you need is get superuser from playstore.

I don't know if this a noob question: in the tutorial InfinityShooter posted earlier it says that the phone must have an unlocked bootloader. Thing is that I am a bit confused in terms of whether the bootloader must be unlocked to obtain the system image or in order to fastboot the insecure image. If it is just to obtain the image then wouldn't it be possible to cook the insecure image using the ROM image that Sony distributed to developers, leading to a solution that doesn't interfere with the bootloader?

after I try the kernel, no bugs are found, everything works fine, like wifi and the other no problem, just given cwm to facilitate root...

Troubleshooting:
If you are stuck at black screen then dont worry. Just press and hold power+vol up keys together for 20 seconds to reboot it.
On rebooting the system will automatically revert to stock kernel which you were using earlier.

Unfortunately yes. Bad thing is that when we unlock the bootloader the TA partition is formatted leading to various problems with Sony apps.

Okay I need help here. My testers report this kernel as working but it fails to work on my device. Please let me know what happens with you..

Here are the EXACT things I do to flash it:
1. Open flashtool
2. Connect my phone
3. I click on thunder icon in flashtool and choose fastboot mode.
4.I click on "Reboot into fastboot mode[adb]"
5.I click on "Select kernel to hotboot" and open the boot.img inside it.
I look at my phone,its all dark. The blue light goes away
6.I click on check current device status and it shows adb connected
7.Orange led comes up as my phone is connected to pc
I see no sony logo or anything like that.
The screen is still BLACK! One thing I notice is that whenever I press the power key, the screen backlight turns on little bit enough for me to notice the varaiation.
Please post your intruction set if it works out for u.

I can't test it myself since I have locked bootloader but did you try to get a working adb shell at this state? If shell works then you might be able to push su and supersu to the device.

Dude I cant see anything on screen and you are talking about pushing files -.-

Dude you said that the phone appears to be connected to the pc in adb state, regardless of the phone screen state. That's where that big if of my suggestion came from.

Any kernel at all?

I've been on the lookout for a kernel for the ST21i for a while now. All I want is a kernel that lets me overclock it as the stock kernel doesn't. I have stock ICS (build 11.0.A.4.22) and unlocked bootloader (I think) and root. I haven't flashed the Enigma or Vengeance ones because they replace the custom recovery so if anything goes wrong, I can't flash the stock kernel back (I do have CWM right now). Or am I wrong, is it possible that I can somehow get the stock kernel backed up onto my computer and flash it if something goes wrong the same way I would flash a custom kernel?

Ok, first of all try to confirm that your bootloader is unlocked (the last thing you want is a hard bricked device)
-Of course, vengeance and enigma kernels are going to replace the custom recovery, because they have cmw built-in, so if anything goes wrong (even if you formatted the /system partition) you will be able to boot to recovery
so here's the thing: if your bootloader is unlocked, then go for it :good: just make sure you have flashtool installed on your computer and the firmware "ftf" file just in case (you know, if you got it hard bricked)
and try installing custom ICS ROMs, they perform better than CM based ROMs.

1)If the bootloader script said that your bootloader is unlocked, then you're good to go
2)flashtool is available for download from the official site, just ggogle it

3)The custom ROM was just a suggestion, you don't have to change your ROM If you are comfortable with it, to be happy is the most important thing

I'm using Vengeance Kernel with 1Ghz overclock, you can use intuisy kernel with up to 1.5 Ghz CPU and 200Mhz GPU overclock if you want to

I downloaded the latest version and it detected my Xperia tipo dual (had to map it as xperia tipo ss, but you don't have to map your since you have tipo ss, it will be detected automatically)
download and test it, if anything goes wrong, PM me so I can provide you with a link for an older version that worked for me, will be sent to you via PM :good:

I just proposed Xperia Flashtool because it's familiar for me, and easy to use.

Custom recovery on Concept MM ROM?

Hi all, I've been trawling through the Z3 threads trying to find a definitive answer to a question I have regarding regarding how to get a custom recovery working on the latest version of the AOSP Concept ROM, but so far have only gotten confused with all the conflicting information. My old Nexus 5 was a piece of cake to flash/root compared to the Z3!
In short - is it possible to simply flash a custom recovery.img through fastboot? If so, which one is compatible with the concept ROM?
I have a D6603 with an unlocked bootloader.

If anyone else is getting twitchy trying to figure out how to install a custom recovery + ROM on their Z3, this is waht you do::
1. Flash a clean Stock KK 23.0.A.2.93 firmware (for DD6603. Other models need a different stock KK ROM afaik) using flashtool.
2. Boot phone and enable USB debugging + mock locations in Developer Options,
3. Run giefroot 3.1 bat to install root.
4. Run latest version of XZDualRecovery installer bat to install custom recovery.
5. Download a pre-rooted zip of the LP/MM ROM you want, put on SD card and flash thru recovery.
7. Wipe Cache for good measure and reboot.
6. Boot back into recovery, flash RICDefeat.zip if needed, to allow R/W functionality for apps like Adaway

Where did you get RICdefeat.zip?
I have SU after flashing Recroom but my Recovery is gone.
