I have the LG Nexus 5 ("hammerhead") running Android 6.0 Marshmallow (M8974A).
I've rooted before using tools like Chainfire's Autoroot, and I see there is no autoroot release for Android 6.0. All guides for rooting that I've found on the Internet involve flashing some kind of custom ROM which I really don't need. I was wondering if there's a way to install the su binaries manually or just if there's some kind of stock image but with the su binaries and nothing more (I just want to keep it simple and pretty vanilla).
Any help or suggestions are appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Hi,
I see you know where your device section is.....XDA is here to help navigate the site, not for support. Please use the Nexus 5 section for help.
Here is one thread I found... http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/root-android-m-nexus-5-t3124055
You can browse your section for more info. :good:
Good luck!

thank you so much. so i need to install custom rom?
ok i picked Darky's v9.2 Extreme Edition to install, but in description it says i need root access!? but i already pointed that i cant root my device
it says this:
1. - Android needs Root Access. (For Froyo 2.2 and 2.2.1)
You need to grant yourself superuser access to system files on the phone. You also need Recovery 2e. You do that by installing CF-Root using the Odin flashing software.
what do i do?
You don't need a custom rom to get root. I suggest going to the galaxy s forums and read the sticky threads there
Sent from my GT-I9000m
thanks, i rooted it with SuperOneClickv1.7 )
Hey everyone!..This is the question I wanted to be answered by you experts out there.
I own a Spice Coolpad Mi-515 (which is same as Coolpad 7295). I badly want to install latest version of android on my device but I am unable as my device provider doesn't release any updates. Hence as an alternative I have been looking for the stock android rom (v4.4 and later). SO my question is that, does the Nexus 5 factory image released by Google work for my device(if no, then does it work with any modifications to the same rom)..Please help me out guys.I would be indebted to your help. I like android so much that I want to try latest version.
Thankyou
It won't work for you device
you would need binaries for lollipop for your device. if none exist, then it wouldnt work. the nexus factory img has device specific stuff just for the n5 and no other device.

Hey,there thanks for your reply. Can you help me in building a lollipop(android 5.0) rom for my device. I wanna dive into this field of making my own rom now onwards so that I need not keep searching roms specific to my device. Any help would be really appreciated!
Hello,
I'm new here so I don't know If I posting this in right section. If not, sorry.
I have a Nexus 4 with Slimkat 4.4.4 and franko kernel. I just received the notification to download the new version of android lollipop by google.
It's not an update by slimkat but by google.
Is it normal? How is it possible? If I do transfer, what would happen?
Hope you can help me.
Thank you!
Hi,
It is very unusual you would get the Ota notice while running a custom rom and kernel, but no... Don't try to install it. If it somehow did manage to install without an error, guaranteed you would be stuck at boot or in a Bootloop after.
You need to either flash stock 4.4.4 to get the ota, or just wait for Lollipop roms and flash them like any other rom.
Good luck!
Thank you
Thanks for your response! I'm a little noob at this things. I can't dismiss the notification for the installation.
How do you think I should go from slimkat 4.4.4 to stock+root+franco kernel 5.0? I did my change on roms a long time ago and I really don?t remeber how I did it and if there are a better way now. I read that is dificult to root on 5.0.
I really appreciate if you could help me. Anyway, thanks for the previous reply.
Best regards

Here is a return to stock guide,
> Google Nexus 4 > Nexus 4 General > [HOW-TO] How to flash a factory image / return to stock / unlock / root #
You won't have custom kernel or root. You need to be completely stock. Then you should be able to do the OTA. As far as rooting on Lollipop, you can try asking here, or reading some others posts...
> Google Nexus 4 > Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
Browse through all the Lollipop threads on rooting. Hopefully you'll find answers. And any future questions on your device can be asked there too.
Good luck!

Hey guys and gals so i have a ZTE Z730 t-mobile i successfully rooted the phone and it also installed CWM v6.0.5. Here's my issue other than im a complete newbie, i downloaded rom MGR and it was not compatible with that version of CWM. Im guessing that there arent any custom roms out for this yet so my question is can i use a different recovery so i can flash custom roms if so what and where can i find these like i said im just starting out and want to learn all that is possible about flashing roms and such for android not sure where to start i really dont want to use the same root method because of the fact that it automatically puts the cwm v6.0.5.0 on it and i cant do anything with it or can i ? well i hope someone can reach out and point me in the rite direction it would be greatly appreciated and thank you ahead of time be well billy (a desperate newbie).
Just a side note that rooted z730 i had i tried to uninstall the cwm and failed miserably so that phone lies in the newbie android user graveyard i actually just purchased another today.:fingers-crossed:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. Unfortunately if there are no ROMs available for your device no amount of changing recovery will be able to fix that. You can only flash ROMs that were developed for your device, and if none of those actually exist, you're fresh out of luck. But, if you have root you can still customise your stock ROM a bit by using Xposed Framework:
Xposed - General info, versions & changelog
And you'll find an entire section of XDA dedicated to compatible Xposed Framework modules:
Xposed Framework Modules
So I'd suggest you do some looking around there and start customising your device.
Good luck!
Very helpful a huge thank you

Hello everyone! o/
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM9005, Android 5.0 Lollipop - non rooted. So, my question is - in what order should I root the device and install custom recovery or ROMs? I am aware of the basics regarding root and custom recovery, but not sure about what ROMs are or do. Therefore, I would like to sincerely apologize if I am wasting your time or anything but most of the posts I find tends to get technical very fast so understanding them becomes tough. So, a basic introduction to the 3 terms would be helpful.
Next - if you would kindly direct me to the most efficient and/or most useful methods to root-ing the device (like - should I use SuperSU or Kingroot or Xposed?) and installing custom recovery (like CWM or TWRP), that would be also helpful. Also, I believe that back-ups can be made using custom recovery in case of any problems - any info (basics) on that would be appreciated.
Last little bit - I did use superSU on my last phone but it kept saying something about BusyBox, if someone could give me a simplified explanation, I would be very grateful. ^_^
Please and thank you! :3
