thank you so much. so i need to install custom rom?
ok i picked Darky's v9.2 Extreme Edition to install, but in description it says i need root access!? but i already pointed that i cant root my device
it says this:
1. - Android needs Root Access. (For Froyo 2.2 and 2.2.1)
You need to grant yourself superuser access to system files on the phone. You also need Recovery 2e. You do that by installing CF-Root using the Odin flashing software.
what do i do?
You don't need a custom rom to get root. I suggest going to the galaxy s forums and read the sticky threads there
Sent from my GT-I9000m
thanks, i rooted it with SuperOneClickv1.7 )

Is it still possible to root the captivate if i flash to the new build? I just got this phone and I really want to do both of these..lol. Please someone let me know. I already downloaded the guide from this site. So I just want to know if I get the new build, is it possible to follow the same root instructions that are for 2.1? Thanks in advanced.

Yes it's still possible to root, but with a different ( more complicated ) method as of now. It's not the same as rooting on 2.1. You can find couple of threads regarding rooting froyo in development section.
Hi All,
As an ex iPhone owner, I am new to Android. I want to root it so I can put on my own ROM.
I have found a straightforward method and already stuckon stage 1. TYPICAL.
I need to find an insecure kernel, but I cant find one. My existing on my v4.0.4 android S2 is
Kernel Version
3.0.15-I9100PBVLPC-CL1020445

Hey, im trying to read up on rooting, and i got some questions. Not sure if this is being posted in the right parts of the forum, so i put it in general
My questions are as follows.
Do i need a coustum kernel to root? if not, should i get one anyways? any good ones?
What does odin does?
And what is "superuser"?
the phone is a samsung galaxy s2 GT-I9100, anyone have an xp with rooting that device?

First, no you do not need a custom kernel to root, however using a custom kernel can provide benefits such as better performance/battery life and added features like superior audio controls etc. A notable kernel for the Galaxy series is the "Siyah Kernel" but it's up to you, personaly I choose not to after issues in past like higher temps
Odin is the tool used to flash software to your device, this is used to flash custom recoveries, kernels and the stock firmware
Superuser is the app used to control permissions to each individual app on your rooted phone, this prevents apps gaining root that you would prefer not to.
Finally, I have rooted an S2 back when I started out with devices. It's fairly painless and has many benefits but I prefer custom ROMs as well as rooting
Hope I could help, however these answers were available elsewhere after looking for a while which is suggested before posting to avoid duplicates when possible
I have the LG Nexus 5 ("hammerhead") running Android 6.0 Marshmallow (M8974A).
I've rooted before using tools like Chainfire's Autoroot, and I see there is no autoroot release for Android 6.0. All guides for rooting that I've found on the Internet involve flashing some kind of custom ROM which I really don't need. I was wondering if there's a way to install the su binaries manually or just if there's some kind of stock image but with the su binaries and nothing more (I just want to keep it simple and pretty vanilla).
Any help or suggestions are appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Hi,
I see you know where your device section is.....XDA is here to help navigate the site, not for support. Please use the Nexus 5 section for help.
Here is one thread I found... http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/root-android-m-nexus-5-t3124055
You can browse your section for more info. :good:
Good luck!
Hi, (sry for the long post but i have allot of questions i can't find solid info on)
Samsung Conquer 4G (SPH-D00), Android version 2.3.6
Brand new to XDA and been looking but all the links aren't working for me
("connection timed out"/"webpage unavailable")
SuperOneClick is what I've been trying to find....but couldn't.
I was able to find and download iRoot, which rooted my old Android but don't know if it really worked
and everything's in a non-English language (I'de rather trust XDA rcmnd stuff).
Can you show me where to find info on:
1)getting a XDA recommended root program for my phone/droid-version)
2) installing custom rom
3)upgrading to a newer version of android (myb)
4)how to enable hotspot on rooted phone
5)connecting my phone to my TV like a Galaxy Note 2 (since i have that cable)
6)how to post all this information for others after i have it all figured out (i want to give back after i learn)
THANK YOU
