My less than a week old z5 is now complete toast - it won't start, no signs of life, hard reset does nothing, power button does nothing - my laptop doesn't detect it over USB. I have complete buyers remorse.
The hard reset switch in the SDcard/SIM slot also does nothing.
Joy. Any ideas? I'm about to goto the EE store and give them the phone back and tell them i'll go get something else

i doubt sony would do anything other than an RMA which is useless to me. EE have a choice of giving me a new one from a store today or I cancel. Sony will be my next option
Got the same issues with my Z5 this morning, had a Z2 before which ran without any issues for 2 years so I'm alarmed that this has happened to not only me.
I had the same problem - my Z5 mysteriously froze. It would not charge nor would it respond to any button presses. I tried pressing buttons repeatedly in various combinations and nothing happened. I must have pressed something that worked eventually as it restarted -- the battery had drained about 30% yet there was nothing at all in the log files about what was using the battery. I have not had any problems subsequently. Very strange

Hi. My red led indicator will not turn off whatever I do. I've tried everything I can think of. Even removing the battery doesn't help. The moment the battery makes contact with the pins the light turns back on. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm using a huawei ideos u8150 running FUSIONideos 1.8. Any help will be much appreciated.

Using the program here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1835791
I tried to unlock my bootloader. Everything seemed to go fine until the program said the phone was rebooting.
The display went dark as if rebooting but never came back on. Since that moment I can't get the phone to power up at all. I can't get into recovery or download mode. The screen doesn't seem to even try to come on. The phone acts as if it has no battery installed even though the battery is there.
Anyone have any suggestions or do I have a legit brick?

Could be a major detail that some might overlook. That'd for sure do it. I got rid of my OG few weeks ago n I'm still stock so I wouldn't know this, but doesn't the process only take like 10 seconds if that? The actual flashing that's taking place. So it'd have to be quite the odds to lose juice in the middle of flashing. But wouldn't it be charging if its plugged in usb? I hope that my man who posted this gets it powered back up. Would be a major bummer otherwise.

Thanks everyone for the replies.
Yes I have tried it without the battery. Right now I'm letting it sit without any battery or power to it to allow all components to discharge. I'll try it again in a couple of minutes.
I'm beginning to think I've got a real live or rather dead brick.

Just to make sure you read and followed all steps right? This one seemed crucial
**** IF YOU HAVE ANY PROGRAMS THAT SYNC WITH YOUR PHONE THEY NEED TO BE UNINSTALLED OR NOT RUNNING BECAUSE THEY CAN CAUSE BRICKS, Pdanet, easytether, droid explorer, kies, etc., etc., on down the line. I repeat if you have a program on your computer that syncs with your phone, it is NOT COOL TO HAVE THAT RUNNING! ****
Just trying to narrow down what the hell could cause the device not to power back up, also how long did you leave the device plugged before disconnecting or pulling the battery. Did oden stop responding or say anything other then rebooting ?

Or instead of paying shipping plus not having a phone for a week or so, you could file an insurance claim... Haha. Last I checked Asurion was still giving new phones due to lack of refurbs.
I had to run out quickly earlier to get a new sim for my Thunderbolt so I can have a phone to use in the meantime. The sim I had for it didn't work.
Some good suggestions. Thanks everyone. I'll have to ponder my options few as they are.

Yeah but when Vzw gets it back do they then discover it was rooted and then charge me for breaking warranty? I've always wondered how much they could tell in a situation like this.

They don't have to get it. Say you dropped it off a boat and you couldn't save it. They don't need it for insurance.

I had this happen on an HTC phone one-time. No joke, but to fix it, I think it ended up holding down power + volume down or up and then put the battery in. I tried a bunch of combinations like that until it booted. Same thing when taking the battery out. Does the red light show when the phone is plugged in?
Attached is a pic of what is going please someone shed some light

Longest was a min or so. It's weird, the power button turns screen off/on like it should. The vol keys make the sound up and down because it vibrates like it should when it reaches vibrate mode. I got the splash screen up once, but then it just bootlooped so i restarted and it went back to this static screen
Anything that was done previously that may have caused it? Also, have you ever replaced the screen? Anything at all?

Well I just wiped everything prior to this, No reflash, just wanted to wipe it. It was on the AOSP welcome screen, the screen turned off then I turned it on and it was like this. Worst part about it is the fact that adb wasnt turned on because of wiping data.
Never replaced the screen. Never replaced anything
I'm thinking along the same lines as 18th.abn, that its a hardware failure. Either screen is broken, or a wire inside has come loose. Phone (CPU, etc.) seems to be working, just not displaying what its supposed to.

What do you mean "of course"? If you just give us 1 sentence asking for help, and don't tell us what you tried, we can only guess. And obviously "I've tried everything I can think of" doesn't clear up matters at all.
That is unquestionably a hardware failure. You've got a lead loose inside somewhere. Sorry.
Hye guys, my nexus 5 suddenly shut down and refuse to turn on just now. Weird part of this problem is when i connect it to power source, it turn on but bootloop forever. I have been tried few tricks that i found but those trick didnt work. I suspect that my battery is now gone bad but would be nice if you guys had similar situation and share it here to me or confirm which part i need to replace. Thanks

It does sound like a bad battery to me. But just in case If you can connect to your PC with a cable I suggest you flash stock. That will definitely tell you that it's hardware.
At first, i thought the same too. I opened the back and took away the battery, it still the same.
When i tried to go into bootloader with cable attached to my PC or charger is plugged in, it shows the bootloader before self reboot almost instantly after that. It won't stay long enough to let me flash.
Is it completely broken? Motherboard or chips issue?

If your phone is off the charger and you cant turn it on and if it is on charger you see the google logo appearing and disyppearing then your problem is a broken power switch.
I've had the same problem and had neither a dead battery nor power switch. I would leave it plugged in for a few hours, then try to get into boot loader mode. Clear cache via fastboot and reboot.
Tried that, but it won't stay in bootloader mode, it will restarted itself almost instantly and repeated like that forever.

Then its a power button or battery issue.
What about if you unplug it as soon as the bootloader appears?

When i unplugged it as soon as the bootloader screen appear, it will turned off itself and not able to turn it on no matter what i did (unless plug it back to power source).

Why are you so sure it is not a Battery issue?
Maybe then a power switch problem. It may be sticky.
Have a command prompt window up and ready to send a new boot.IMG to your device. The second it hits BL mode try to flash it. See if it writes on the device.
I think this is recoverable.

If the phone is borked and needs an RMA, might be a last ditch effort. I'm comfortable doing something like that, but not all might. It would involve perfect timing.

Meh. Could try it but I doubt it'll do any good.
Thanks for all replies. Nothing i did (including all of suggestions here) can revive it. Trying to do RMA but the BL is unlocked.
I just tear it all apart (thats why I'm sure not a battery and power button issue) and already started selling all the parts. So sad to be one of the unfortunate N5 owner.

I had same situation on my Xperia S. I Installed ROM, and when I had low battery I rebooted phone. Everything stopped on Xperia Logo screen and my phone won;t turned on and then battery was empty. Firstly I Could not to do but when I was reading something on XDA I found out that I should charge some power on my phone, then Flash a clean rom. Try to charge your phone, then use Nexus Root Toolkit and pick option to Install stock ROM if your device is on bootlopp etc.
Or if you have installed TWRP for example try to install ROM again after charging
Sounds like another stuck power button.
I assume you hadn't done anything before hand? All was up and working fine etc
