There isn't really any point to someone recommending a modem for you. Modem performance can vary wildly from user to user as it depends on carrier, exact geographical location, environmental disturbances, among other factors. Someone in the same suburb (even street) as you can have a very different experience on the exact same modem. What I'm saying is the only way to find out is by testing for yourself.
Ahh ok, thank you. I thought it went just kinda off of area thats why i asked for NY. I tried so many im losing hope for this phone lol

Yeah unfortunately this device has a pretty weak antenna. My house has always been a black hole for signal, but with previous devices I've at least been able to make/receive calls, it's pretty much impossible with this phone. It's a real shame because other than that I can't fault it.

Same thing with me, my phone wasn't the best in the house but it was able to do something lol. With this im always getting messages as soon as I step outside. It is a shame, real quick and snappy of a phone. Im not to big on the screen size, I like to be able to use just one hand when sliding status bar down and typing, with this I feel like I will drop it. Im sure i would get used to it but If im getting no signal or barely any im going to jump ship. I think I might go back to motorola with either the Moto g or the Moto x 3rd gen. I had the first one only after a few months after its release. Only reason I changed is because of cracked screen. Ill keep researching different modems for some hope.
Thanks, Heisenberg!

That phone is crap in the us. Sorry im sure someone will argue, but I have been Beta testing it for about month now and i hate it.
if u hate it! send it to me! i'll return it when it' time for u to return it to SE! haha
Its property of not me. Like I said im beta testing as well as about 35 other employees of AT&T. I cant say im to pleased with it. My tilt interacts with 3G better than the X1. As from what I have seen from the other tech's they are saying the same thing. One of the major problems with the device is when it looses the network it will not automatically pick it back up, always turning off and on again.
The battery life sucks in 3G (when it atucally works). If i was allowed to send it to you i WOULD. But im sure you would send it back in frustration.
Now don't get me wrong its one of the coolest phones I have used in a while. But I would rather have a phone first, then all the cool things that come with it.

i guess it depends on ATT network and what area u in. there' a few people saying the samething about Imate 9502 losing signals and not picking up again.
but my Imate 9502 rarely lose signals and when it does lose signals, it automatically pick it up again.
Hi everybody,
I've got a question about sending my phone back to orange. The thing is I have been complaining that my signal has been worse than crap for a month or so, so they are going to send me a replacement handset. The thing is, I am S-Off and rooted. Now I don't think I need it to be S-On again, I'm thinking the people at Orange would'nt be THAT savvy to look, or care about that. However, I am running cyanogen mod, so I want to take that off and put an orange stock one back on. Am I right in thinking that it would be as easy as just flashing one from this page

Any advice would be appreciated, I just don't want to completely bugger it.
Cheers

Yes it looks like the Orange Uk RUU is there, and will restore you to stock and S-On if you used AlpharevX. If you used XTC Clip that's irreversible. But like you said I doubt they'd notice.
However it might be worth me mentioning, as an Orange sufferer myself, I also have terrible 3G signal despite my housing estate being ground zero for the biggest cell tower you've ever seen. Is it just 3G you are struggling with?
My phone I bought SIM-free and unlocked too. Tried various radios, same results.
It's more to do with Orange climbing into bed with T-Mobile and then proceeding to thoroughly bork their 3G network trying to merge them. I've had the 3G bandwidth of a slightly damp piece of string since February. It comes and goes though. They'll manage a full hour or two of 'H' before it bombs me back to 'G'. I had the old Desire back then, and service went from awesome to pony over the course of January/February so I know it wasn't my phone. Come the end of my contract (as I've been unsuccessful arguing my way out of it) I'm back off to Vodafone.
Just saying you may find you get another handset when there is nothing wrong with your current one. Have you tried popping in a friend's SIM card from another network?
Hiya mate,
Thanks for replying. You answered my question a couple of weeks ago as I remember, about my phone being stuck on gsm? Well I just kept ringing them and told them my signal was the pits and not getting any better, so they are sending me a replacement. I was pretty surprised that they would do this actually. I asked them what would happen if that didn't work, and they said just give them a call back. My sister had really poor reception as well, and she hounded them that much that they cancelled her contract, hell hath no fury and all that ha ha. So I might be going down the same route, if this handset doesn't work. To be fair, I cant see it making any difference.

Excellent mate, that worked like a charm. Back to stock ROM i'll see what happens with this new handset, If that doesn't work, gonna see about trying to get out of contact. On the plus Side, they only want the actuall phone back. So I score a spare battery and memory card ha ha. Thanks again, much appreciated.
My droid razr drops it's data connetion, just about every day. some times it fall's back on 3G, but most of the time not. Now vid two was not the best at showing what happens most of the time, but vid one is. I have better videos, but they have to much info about me to upload with out cuting them up.
So if video one happened to you every day, with 3-5 bars or -69 to -86dbm. What would you do?
I would like to know so I can fix it.
thanks
P.S I have tryed:
New sim, reboots( lots and lots of that), Uninstalling most 3rd party apps, Leting it stay off over night. ( the tech guy said to do that.) and not using the phone for 24h.

Bootloader is locked and even it was not locked, I still would not because it does not seem to be software. There is a week spot on the lower right side of the phone that "gives in" way to easy vs my S2 and the build of this phone should be better than that.
P.S maybe Verizon is just the biggest pile of crap on earth?
yeah i would just make sure its rooted and install a good rom for it it might work.

Correct. Changing ROMs will do little or nothing to improve the situation and might even make it worse. It's either a poor antenna design or, more likely, poor signal in your location.

For the super-premium prices they charge, Verizon should be willing to help. T-Mobile US offers free home signal boosters to those who need them. Maybe Verizon has a program like that.
Sent from HTC G2
I don't think a signal boost will help if it drops data even in a 5 bar place and I can see the cell tower.
It just did it again and fell back on 3g. I was geting 4-5 bars, unsure if it's reading dbm right.
Edit: Free signal boosters and it does not cost you more $ per bill? If 100% free thats cool, AT&T does not do that for free, but never needed form them.
My data connection drops in the weirdest places!
underground shops for example, always have full bars..
out in the open.. no bars
I would be complaining to my service provider! but the few suggestions to root and rom your stock cell might work.. however rooting is not for everyone. so I would look for other solutions first. Make sure you have the latest firmware installed for your device and if you are still having issues, then maybe consider root.
bootloader is locked, so no roms. there is root, but i don't know how well it works yet.
I think the hardware has some kind of isuse. i think the battery reader is bad and is feeding the phone fake info. I will need more time to know for sure.
Try a different phone on the same provider and a different provider on the same phone.
Then either change provider, phone or both.
The phone is locked and even if you could unlock it, it uses bands no one else uses.
There are some good things about the EU like:
1) cell phones are all gsm and there for hot swapable.
2) 100mbs internet all over.
3) You make some fine cars.
Back on topic: I don't have a phone to swap sims with on same provider.
Thanks for the input and thanks for the worlds fastest car.
I'm considering getting a motox Monday so I don't have the reception problems I have. Just wondering if anyone has heard any plans on fixing the radios for the D850? I'd love to keep the phone, but when I can't count on it to make and receive calls where other ATT phones will...

I have experienced problems with my radio too... But mainly in basements, but the aggravating part is that someone can sit next to me with a S5 and get signal when I can't... I have not heard anything or haven't read anything about an update fixing the radio... I wish they would though...

This almost sounds like a hardware limitation of the G3's antenna design compared to the Galaxy S5 design.
Not all phones are going to have the exact same reception capabilities. Unfortunately, this cannot be resolved through a software update.
You can compare the two by looking at the dB level on both phones side by side. Do NOT use "bar" indicator levels to compare signal levels.

Yeah I realize that, I also realize it could be software related.

Reception Problems
I bought my g3 off an ebay seller about 4-5 months ago. its my first android phone. ive owned ios and windows devices prior to this. it came rooted which kind of spooked me cause it was listed as new other (out of box and original package but otherwise new). it was working great for the most part until i started realizing i wasnt getting half of my calls and couldnt make calls half the time. i can use data and text with pretty much 1 bar or more on lte. making and receiving calls is damn near impossible unless i have 3 bars or more on lte to start then atleast 2 bars when it switches to 4g. I really really like the phone and would hate to get rid of it so soon. im half decent with computers and such so i decided to try and troubleshoot this problem. it could be hardware related but i honestly feel like its software related. maybe there was a crucial ota update it missed due to being rooted? i updated to stock lollipop from stock kitkat to start and updated the modem to the d850 20f version i believe it was, no improvement that i noticed. i kept doing research and found another modem update 20q i think it was and that seemed to improve the reception problems a little bit. i was now getting a little bit of service in areas that i was getting no service prior to this. i have since removed root and took the ota update that was available, no luck. now before going any further with the ota updates im going to reroot (hopefully i didnt lock the bootloader with the last ota) i forgot that some of those otas will do that. im going to try changing the build prop from 9 to 12 and see what that does. theres also a custom rom i came across called spectrum thats geared towards better reception that im going to try. if anyone can give any further advice or ideas please do. im ready to throw the thing out of my car window sometimes lol.
the 30 dollar windows phone that this replaced has better call performance than this g3.
Hi all - I think I've finally watched enough videos and read enough crap over the last couple months to convince myself to pull the trigger on the OP7P. Before I do though, I've got a few questions I'm hoping you guys can put to rest for me.
Deals? Is there anything on the horizon where we anticipate this phone going on sale that I should be aware of? If I can save a hundred bucks or something by waiting a month, that's cool by me.
Should I purchase any of the additional screen protection or extended warranty services offered via OPO's website? I know there have been concerns in the past with OPO's customer service and whatnot. I haven't really come across much regarding consistently faulty hardware, but please let me know otherwise.
WiFi Calling - I'm currently on AT&T, so would like to know if WiFi Calling will work in the immediate... but I also hate AT&T and would like to jump ship soon. Is there a definitive list somewhere regarding what networks allow WiFi calling with this device and which don't?
Anything else you wish you knew before buying your OP7P? I'll likely be going with the 8g/256g black variant.
Thanks for any input in advance. It's greatly appreciated. :good:
1. If they end up releasing another phone this year like they have the past two, then it will probably drop around $50-$100. But to my knowledge there hasn't been any discussion about that happening.
2. I think this depends on your usage. For me, I have only dropped a phone once in the past 7 years and it was because of a headphone wiring getting caught on a chair. So i never go for additional protection. If you are less protective of your device on a regular use basis, then maybe consider it. Phone does come with screen protector installed so simple scratches and not a worry.
3. Not totally sure because i use Mint running off tmobile. I image there is probably another thread with all the info you could need on the subject somewhere on here or maybe someone else will answer below me.
4. Not really an issue, but the device is quite a bit heavier than expected. But like anything else, you get used to it.

Mint has been great for me. Speeds are fast enough that i don't care to compare numbers with any other carrier. Wifi calling also works perfectly on OOS and Custom ROMs. If you don't need unlimited data, I always recommend it. Going from a $90 phone bill to $20/$25/$30 per month depending on your pay period is really nice.
