Hi everybody,
I've got a question about sending my phone back to orange. The thing is I have been complaining that my signal has been worse than crap for a month or so, so they are going to send me a replacement handset. The thing is, I am S-Off and rooted. Now I don't think I need it to be S-On again, I'm thinking the people at Orange would'nt be THAT savvy to look, or care about that. However, I am running cyanogen mod, so I want to take that off and put an orange stock one back on. Am I right in thinking that it would be as easy as just flashing one from this page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002506
Any advice would be appreciated, I just don't want to completely bugger it.
Cheers

Yes it looks like the Orange Uk RUU is there, and will restore you to stock and S-On if you used AlpharevX. If you used XTC Clip that's irreversible. But like you said I doubt they'd notice.
However it might be worth me mentioning, as an Orange sufferer myself, I also have terrible 3G signal despite my housing estate being ground zero for the biggest cell tower you've ever seen. Is it just 3G you are struggling with?
My phone I bought SIM-free and unlocked too. Tried various radios, same results.
It's more to do with Orange climbing into bed with T-Mobile and then proceeding to thoroughly bork their 3G network trying to merge them. I've had the 3G bandwidth of a slightly damp piece of string since February. It comes and goes though. They'll manage a full hour or two of 'H' before it bombs me back to 'G'. I had the old Desire back then, and service went from awesome to pony over the course of January/February so I know it wasn't my phone. Come the end of my contract (as I've been unsuccessful arguing my way out of it) I'm back off to Vodafone.
Just saying you may find you get another handset when there is nothing wrong with your current one. Have you tried popping in a friend's SIM card from another network?
Hiya mate,
Thanks for replying. You answered my question a couple of weeks ago as I remember, about my phone being stuck on gsm? Well I just kept ringing them and told them my signal was the pits and not getting any better, so they are sending me a replacement. I was pretty surprised that they would do this actually. I asked them what would happen if that didn't work, and they said just give them a call back. My sister had really poor reception as well, and she hounded them that much that they cancelled her contract, hell hath no fury and all that ha ha. So I might be going down the same route, if this handset doesn't work. To be fair, I cant see it making any difference.

Excellent mate, that worked like a charm. Back to stock ROM i'll see what happens with this new handset, If that doesn't work, gonna see about trying to get out of contact. On the plus Side, they only want the actuall phone back. So I score a spare battery and memory card ha ha. Thanks again, much appreciated.

That phone is crap in the us. Sorry im sure someone will argue, but I have been Beta testing it for about month now and i hate it.
if u hate it! send it to me! i'll return it when it' time for u to return it to SE! haha
Its property of not me. Like I said im beta testing as well as about 35 other employees of AT&T. I cant say im to pleased with it. My tilt interacts with 3G better than the X1. As from what I have seen from the other tech's they are saying the same thing. One of the major problems with the device is when it looses the network it will not automatically pick it back up, always turning off and on again.
The battery life sucks in 3G (when it atucally works). If i was allowed to send it to you i WOULD. But im sure you would send it back in frustration.
Now don't get me wrong its one of the coolest phones I have used in a while. But I would rather have a phone first, then all the cool things that come with it.

i guess it depends on ATT network and what area u in. there' a few people saying the samething about Imate 9502 losing signals and not picking up again.
but my Imate 9502 rarely lose signals and when it does lose signals, it automatically pick it up again.
HTC took my Vodafone branded Sensation to repair it as i had bought it over ebay and cell reception wasn't as good as other sensations.
Whoop de doo UPS came and collected my phone on Tuesday 21st June and HTC received it on Wednesday 22nd June at 10AM. They told me it will take 7 working days to repair.
10 working days later (14 days later) they still havent fixed it and have no updates for me.
Anything i can do?
UPDATE: 13 Working days since it has been in repair. I have escalated this 3 times and checked with them everyday.
I get a call from the Supervisor they Repair Center have lost my Flagship Device.
They have no Sensations in stock. so they are offering me an alternative device (obviously all cheaper than the Sensation)
Now they are looking into trying to issue a replacement Sensation from HTC. very annoyed
Update: Rang up the HTC Care Team today. Because they lost my Vodafone branded device. They have decided to send me a brand new unopened unbranded Sensation. which i would receive in 3 working days also
http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=185326
a free Bluetooth headset as compensation.
well glad that should be sorted, and will update when i receive it

tried that lol, they said we will investigate, thats all, and thats your personal opinion. its a forum here to discuss the device or problems.
You can do more. Writing in to head office helps.

I've never seen more forum police/wanna b mods in one forum than here. Keep your panties on boys.
'to the op. tmo did a similar thing with me. Tell you now, be patient and you'll get your sensation. Reason why you need to be patient is if they are out of stock, not much of anything you or they can do to speed it up. tmo lost my sgs n they were out of stock, I had to wait 3 weeks.

I know i think they will know how it feels when it happens to their Devices
I understand the need to be patient. I spoke to a Supervisor and he has escalated a request for HTC to send out a new device not the repair center. as its not the network provider (e.g. Tmo) who took my device. it was HTC themselves.
They have mentioned they will be sending a new Sensation. Brand new and i did ask for a free accessory such as the car kit upgrade or the DLNA wireless box.
just have to wait and see. but yeh at the moment my Desire HD has gone for repair as i broke it. the sensation went for repair under warranty for faulty WIFI. im currently using a blackberry where The LCD is cracked and the bottom half is just a white blank screen. so im not the happiest and can only use the phone for answering calls really

OP that sucks. TMobile offers loaner phones when they have to send one out for warranty repair, does your carrier not do that? Good luck, let us know if you got the flat glass

still got all the accessories from my previous handset, headset, charger, 8gb memory card, also getting the new one boxed, so spares

yep definitely it feels flat but looks a little curved. much better i think.
Can you elaborate on the flatness of the screen? The screens on these are flat with curved edges. Is that what you mean? The sensation screen isn't entirely curved like the Nexus S.

With my sensation HTC lost. when u get to the edge of the screen on either side you could feel the curve. it was substantially curved. now with the new unbranded device, i can hardly feel the curve on the edge, it feels flat. like just one straight glss, but looking at it, you can see a slight curve on thescreen, only very slight, not as much as the earlier sensations.
I want to return to stock on my tmobile branded HTC sensation 4G. I have flashed the radio, eng s off, and CSL recovery.
I am going to give them a shot at fixing my reception issues before I destroy the phone and buy something else.
Did you have reception problems before flashing your radio or after? I think you should be fine with having a rom since HTC released their bootloader if its a big deal and your really worried just flash a stock rom on that bad boy and call it a day. Just my 2 cents new to the site so hopefully a vet will chime in here for help
Though I've never returned to stock on my phone, you just need to download one of the TMOUS RUUs in this thread:
[ROM][11 May] Shipped Pyramid ROM Collection
There are two listed for TMOUS (there was only one when last I checked the thread), but it supposedly doesn't matter which one you pick according to one of the posts later on in the thread.
They're big old files, but just run the .EXE and it ought to walk you through every necessary step to proceed properly.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
Thank you very much for the great responses.
Yes I had reception problems on all 3 sensation 4g's I've had my hands on. It's terrible. Side by side, on the same tower, it gets far lower reception than my old Motorola Cliq (piece of slow crap.)
It's ridiculously low and drops calls. It's so unreliable at my house that I have to use WiFi calling and take a drop if I get more than 30' from my extremely good wireless router. meh. crap.
To the other gentleman, than you very much. I figured it included the radio, but I was unsure about the bootloader/recovery. I will start there and then figure out if there is anything else I need to fix before I send it in. I don't want any more BS from them. I'm sure they are just going to send it back and say "nothing is wrong".
They have said that it is comparable to reception on their other models. If this is the case, this will be the VERY last HTC phone I ever own, and our company has just gotten to the point that I can invest in things such as this for business. If we only get 2 at a time, every 6 months or so, That is $10,000 in lost business in the next ten years, provided they are only $500 phones.

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion and ask a few questions....
1. Have you tried reverting to stock and see if you still have the same problems with reception?
2. Are you aware that the Sensation suffers from the grip of death?
3. Have you noticed performance with reception after flashing a new ROM in comparison to stock?
I think I may have some insight to the real problem but need this info first.

Yes, but this isn't to what I refer. Holding the phone in a weird way to make the radios D/C isn't my problem so much as the design that allows this to happen in the first place is my problem. If I set the phone down, I get more bars than if I hold it normally. If this is the difference between 2-3 and 1-2, I can get dropped calls. My wifi range (max performance on) is 1/10th of my tablet and 1/20th of my laptop.
Even without touching the phone, just setting it on a wood counter top, it has less reception than my Motorola Cliq or Mytouch 4g, even when on the same tower. The cliq's reception does not change if I pick it up.
It's a bad design. If it is what HTC considers acceptable, then their phones aren't acceptable to me. It's cool. I'm not really that pissed about it. I just won't buy another. There are options.

No, I've found no increase in reception with any change I've made. I've flashed 5 different radios other than stock with no changes in this department.
I have heard people have speed changes, but I was not tracking that so I can't really respond to that.

Hope you have some help.
I've already tried a new back. It did nothing. There simply aren't enough towers in my area (all edge towers anyway) to support a phone with such poor reception. My Cliq had no issues with dropped calls in many of the areas I drive through, but this sensation just can't make it down my parents road without dropping.
The reason I ask is that I think that the Radio-Interface-Layer (RIL) files must be screwing with your radio. The RILs are like drivers for your radio. Different radios work with different RILs depending on your location. Long-in-short-version, Since the Sensation is fairly new, we are still exploring what works best and therefore your mileage may vary.
You may want to check this thread
And check out your RIL version. To check to see what RIL you have run getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl" in Terminal Emulator or adb shell and it will print out the RIL version.
T-Mo users should utilize HTC-RIL 2.2.0159HMQ if not running 2.3.4 ROMS
2.3.4 ROMS require HTC-RIL 2.2.0169HMQ. The matching radio versions are included in the thread posted above.
Hope this helps.
If that fails, tonight, TMOUS released an OTA update. See if you can get it through Settings-> About Phone -> HTC Software updates.
The changes for the T-Mo update can be found here
Hope this helps!
EDIT : I am assuming that you have a T-Mobile Sensation 4G and not an unbranded HTC Sensation and that you current location is in fact Myrtle Beach, SC. But then again, I hate assumptions and I really should have asked >.< **having a simpson 'doh' moment here**

I will play with the MILs right now (installing the tmo one)
I'm on stock RUU now, but it did not replace the PVT S-OFF and recovery crashes and requires a battery pull to reboot. It goes to a icon of a phone with a red triangle thingie on it.
EDIT: MIL's match.

Could be trying to push the OTA update. Have you tried applying the OTA update?
iNFORMATION
I have personally reset my phone a couple of times using the tmo ruu and know that it sets your phone back to absolute stock, with no root and only being s-off. What this means is, if you wish to reroot then you are going to have to go back through the rooting process.
As far as the symbol that you are seeing when you try to do an ota update? The reason that you are seeing the phone with a red triangle is because your phone is being recognized as being rooted and once rooted htc will not allow an ota to your phone. You have to trick HTC into thinking that the phone is not rooted in order to get the ota, there is a thread in the forums for this. I do not remember which thread it is, however, I know that it works as I did it for all four of the HTC sensations that I own.
So my wife is out of town and i just got a frantic call from her on her moms phone telling me that her Inspire is constantly been shutting down.
We live in Texas and she's visiting family in Ft. Lauderdale since before Christmas. She's said since she's been there that the phone has been acting wonky, but starting today the phone will not stay powered on when not on the charger.
When it's on the charger she says she has 80% battery life, but when she unplugs it and tries to do something with it the phone powers down.
She's done the battery pulls, she's cleared the cache and removed unnecessary apps. I'm really not sure what to tell her other than go to AT&T and get a different battery, and fi that does't work - plug it into your laptop, copy all of your pictures and necessary data then do a factory reset.
Any other advice from more experienced members?
Sounds like your on the right track. You could try downloading the ruu from HTC as well and do a clean install. If all else fails just do a warranty.
I had the same problem. It was the battery, bought a new stock HTC battery and it works perfectly don't try a reset or any of that. You will lose you're stuff, tell her to just charge it until she can get it replaced I kept mine on charger for 4 days until I bought it and got it in the mail. Phone works perfectly now
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
We had to get the screen replaced so AT&T wouldn't help her because hey could tell it's been opened
It was opened about 4 months ago, and has been working fine until she went to Florida. She has had battery issues though since she go the device back in February.
She said the AT&T person tried to do a factory reset and that "it wouldnt take" which i found was odd. More than likely the AT&T person was doing it while the phone was on, rather than doing the volume down + power button to load into recovery and do it that way.
Anyone know why a factory reset wouldn't go through?
Selecting it through the phone just boots into hboot to finish the process, but if the phone is freezing and powering down it would probably keep it from completing. Try it through hboot. Did the att guy at least test a different battery in the device? Some of those att employees really shouldn't be helping people troubleshoot. Too bad they aren't all as educated as zel.

They didnt even entertain the idea of a different battery. They took the battery door off and could tell that it had been opened. Right then and there they basically sent we can't help you because it's out of warranty and HTC will charge you full price for a new phone, but then whispered to her that she could go to a local shop.
Needless to say i was a little pissed that they wouldn't even let her try a different battery.

That is one of the risks of Modding your phone or someone else's. All support now relies on the phones owner.
As for the rep. He couldn't do anything without possibly losing his/her job. I used to work for them so I really can't blame the employee.
Now for her prob the only thing I would suggest is that she get another battery which may or may not be the issue.
Why was it opened? If you don't mind me asking?

That is one of the risks of Modding your phone or someone else's. All support now relies on the phones owner.
As for the rep. He couldn't do anything without possibly losing his/her job. I used to work for them so I really can't blame the employee.
Now for her prob the only thing I would suggest is that she get another battery which may or may not be the issue.
Why was it opened? If you don't mind me asking?

Tx Redneck is correct. As I stated the screen had to be replaced.
I understand about the rep not being able to do anything because of potential job loss, but does that mean they can't even let her borrow a battery to test it?

By the rules as much as I hate to say it. Yes. If they see that the phone was modded they cant even allow the use of another battery for testing. I normally kept a few extra personal batteries to help people out but had to do it off the clock. ATT is very strict about it.
I was written up once when I was helping someone with an issue and my boss looked over my shoulder and noticed the sticker was missing. HE asked me if I noticed and I said yes i did but it had nothing to do with what I was helping with. He took the phone, handed it back to the owner, said sorry there is nothing we can do for you. Then sent me home and when I came back in I was written up with a final warning.

Yeah it does. No prob.
Once she's returned from her trip i'll come back and post whether or not i was able to fix the issue or if we need to procure a new phone.
Restored my phone to stock two days ago and updated from Froyo to Gingerbread. Official HTC/Verizon update. Guess what? Broke my internet (in the best way to say it.) I had flaky 3G connection and no 4G at all. Most of the time, it would be at 1X or no data connectivity at all.
Went through all the steps of soft resets, pulling battery, factory resetting, toggling mobile network state, toggling data connectivity, toggling roaming, toggling between CDMA only and CDMA/LTE. You name it (in the range of things that didn't void warranty) and I did it. Nothing.
So I call customer service, and the woman said that she WOULD send out a SIM card, but it'd be faster for me to go to the Verizon store and they'd replace it for free, no hassle. So, went down to the store (It's only about five minutes from my home) got it switched out, bam. Had 3G, that was it. The rep was pretty busy and wanted to rush me out, so he said "It's fine, just give it ten minutes. Thanks for coming by." Twenty minutes later, sitting in my room and notice that...oh darn, no internet connectivity at all. Went through all the basic steps again, and nothing.
By this point, raging.
Call their tech support and they say that they're sending me a new thunderbolt (yay!) So, yesterday it came in (after I had to call Fed Ex and correct my address because the woman completely got it wrong lol) Unbox it, put in my SIM and SD cards and my battery, start it up. Worked just fine. Praise Jeebus! Left it that way for the rest of the night because I didn't need to use my phone, but when I made a call this morning, I realized that my phone speaker was making a grinding metallic buzzing like noise...
Great.
So I call in, and the techie I talked to told me to call Asurion since it was a CLNR (Made me mad since they said it'd be a brand new phone) and they told me I'd have to pay a deductible! So I hung up and called Verizon back (still using a rather polite tone after all the bull****) and quickly gave them the whole story and informed them of how Asurion wanted me to pay $100 for a new phone because the phone I had JUST gotten was broken and was shipped that way. They apologized, said they didn't know why Asurion would do that, and said I should have another Thunderbolt on my doorstep tomorrow.
If this one is busted as well, I'm going to throw away Mr. Nice Guy and raise hell. I've been with Verizon for almost four years now and they just keep giving me the runaround. This is absurd. Not the first time some crap like this has happened because of a malfunctioning phone.
Whenever you call VZW, you should ALWAYS choose the "cancel account" option at the teleprompt. It will automatically escalate your call to a high level tech who actually knows his/her **** and is authorized to make more changes than the low level peons.
If there's something wrong with the one they send me tomorrow, I'm calling them right off the bat and asking to be transferred to their retention department lol. Same thing, I guess. I'm going to rage and tell them give me a NEW phone. Not dealing with another broken refurbished phone. Some warranty THAT is.
What makes me even more mad is the fact that they sent me to Asurion when I found out that Asurion no longer handles ANY of the warranty issues. So they knew I'd be charged to pay for a new phone because THEY screwed up.
I had the exact same thing happen...no 4g. They sent me a new SIM, nothing. Sent me a new phone, buzzing in the earpiece. Only difference was that I happened to notice it right away when I was testing the phone. Called them back and they just sent me another replacement phone, no questions. Never had to go through Asurion because it was broken when I got it. Weird that they made you do that. Second new (refurb) phone I got worked great and 4G is back.
The Thunderbolt I got today was a brick. Seriously? lol. I called Verizon to cancel my account due to all the bullsh*t and the supervisor said she'd send me a brand new Rezound instead of a CLNR Thunderbolt. Well, nice knowing the Tbolt and everyone on the forum. Best of luck to all the devs, I hope Twistd gets ICS up and running for you guys
I've been with VZW for 12 years, no bad experiences...wish they'd send me a Rezound!
It doesn't seem like Verizon had bad customer service. You got a lemon of a phone.
They're sending you a brand new Rezound. Doesn't sound like bad customer service to me.

OP...So YOU broke your phone (voided warranty, Verizon needs not offer any assistance in fixing it). Then blame them for the software issue you created? To top if off you get a "free" upgrade from Verizon (refurbished of course), and then are surprised that it is not of the highest quality. Sounds like you need to jump back in to reality, as well as take responsibility for your own actions before "raging" against others for them. You should be jumping for joy that you got a new phone, not crying about it.
I have had to deal with all major cell phone vendors as part of my job. I can tell you without any question what so ever that Verizon has by FAR the best customer service of all cell phone vendors.

Absolutely. You don't have outsourced customer service and they actually care about how happy you are.
Geez, the whiney kids and their sense of entitlement.

u realize he said he went back to stock....went through the update THEN he had connectivity issues...then 2 lemons later they decide to give them a phone. also, the rant was BEFORE the new phone...
He was very patient and calm until the 4th time he was wronged by either broken phone/software in which case i believe was not his fault, then he raged, tbh some people would have already raged way before this guy did. Also i dont think he meant verizon is bad at customer service but he was frustated after getting like 3 diff. broken phones which is also not his fault. Just my 2 cents

Ha. Ha ha ha. I had forgotten I posted here, actually.
A software issue I created? No. I don't call returning to their stock image then updating to THEIR update MY issue. The rep I spoke with said that it wasn't an unknown issue. No, I only got a "free" upgrade after they sent me a phone with a broken ear speaker and one that didn't even turn off.
I'd be glad about the new phones if they weren't junked as well. My first Rezound pretty much burned out, and the new one has a yellow tinted screen with pink soft keys instead of red and horrible light leakage.
I understand where you'd be coming from if I had said "wahwahwah" about it all.
But Jesus, you can't tell me if you had gotten two bad phones in a row you wouldn't be raging. And now I've gotten two more that were junk.
Please, tell me more about how I have to jump into reality.

Sense of entitlement? Right.
Yeah, they care so much that one of them sent me to Asurion when it was clearly a warranty issue with the first refurbished that I got. Not to mention the woman that told me she had written a few notes on my system to aid in the process after all of it to get the Rezound...when she never did. The next rep I spoke with had no clue what I was talking about. So, once again, sense of entitlement? Please. Do elaborate after you understand that their software update broke my radio connection, the second phone I got was busted, the third was busted, the first Rezound burned out after a week, and the new Rezound has horrible build quality issues.
Might want to actually read my first post before you try to act like I'm being a "Waaaaaaaaah gimme new phone because I had one issue!"
Out of maybe 12 times I've had to call Verizon due to busted phones, I've had 2-3 that I would actually rate as satisfactory. The others certainly weren't pleasant. I know the busted phones are completely HTC's fault (at the time of the original post, I thought it was Verizon who certified the devices. Yes, ignorance on my part), but that doesn't excuse how many times I've pretty much gotten very cold and bitter treatment.
Is there a point to this thread? If not, mods please close.

I think he himself caused a mismatch in radios. I don't believe that a factory reset that takes you back to Froyo replaces the radios with Froyo compatible radios. In any case it sounds like a case of rooted incompatible radios that was causing his issues.

I understand the OP's frustrations. I have been with Verizon for 6 years now after my company was bought out by them. I could have went somewhere else at that point but I stayed for the sake of the reputation I had known Verizon to have among others I knew.
I went through a point of time where 2 of us on the plan had bad phones, known issues etc. They shipped out warranty replacements and they didn't work right either etc. I have had good customer service from them before, but I think its really just the luck of the draw with them. We went through 12 different shipments before they finally decided to send us phones that worked. This was not the fault of any screwing with the phone's technology, this was stock.
In Verizon's defense, this will always be an issue. Companies with high customer service ratings will always have at least 1-2 peons that don't care working for them. And it may just be the luck to get that 1 peon on the phone at the time....
Don't give up on a company because of one bad situation if you have many others to look at as good. They are a good company (for the most part) with some bad seeds...it happens to most if not all.
Glad to see your phone was taken care of!!!
