So i dropped my nexus 5 from about 2 ft accidentally and now it wont turn on, and it is extremely hot. Please some one helppppp!:crying:
I don't think it works, but please test it: Press and hold the powerbutton for 20-30 seconds. This will preform a reset (like removing battery). Good luck!

If it is getting hot, it's probably turning on. Looks like you'll have to get your screen replaced. Even if there is no crack, it does not mean the screen and digitizer is still intact.

extremely hot means something wrong with the devices including system corruption, if its hardware problem u might want to send to phone shop for diagnose,, if its software, try flash stock rom.. sees if its boot and showed up boot image...
i hope it doesnt have hardware damage since just a 2feet drop,, nevertheless the digitizer screen

Well it doesnt vibrate or give haptic feedback. There is no sound. Too.

I cant get into bootloader so i cant flash a factory image, there is no haptic feedback too. So i guess its a hardware problem.. the phone has cooled now. But it was extremely hot for an hour. I guess the battery ran out.

If by can't boot into bootloader you mean all you see is a black screen. Well that pretty much confirms that at least the screen needs to be replaced. Get it replaced and when testing it you'll find out if there's anything else wrong (hardware wise) with your Nexus 5. Cheers.

Yes , but if it was the screen, atleast i would've got some response from the phone, such as the charging light or atleast i would've been detected on my pc. Oh well, anyways ill have to get it repaired.

Nope. i got it checked and its the whole motherboard. Now i got to buy a new phone. Still confused how a 2 feet drop did this..
I can say that the body can't holds up that figure impact, our n5 is a whole plastics haha... My fri3nds n5 dropped his at 5 feet from his bare hands on a carpet, guess what, screen broken and its frame gone loose,,, wow, nice build.... However nexus 5 rocks !!!!
I recommend removing the back cover and checking for loose or damaged connections. Also, remove and re-attached each connections and try to boot the phone.

this morning (and maybe 2 other times before) my screen blacked out and refused to turn back on. i am not rooted. any ideas why this would happen? i ended up having to pull the battery twice and then it's been working fine since.
thanks
then that was probably it...if it continues, do a factory reset

What ROM are you using? I've had that happen to me twice now. The buttons light up, I can hear screen noises, but a black screen. I pull the battery and reboot, everything is fine. I'm using DS_MOD.1.55.531.3, rooted and S-OFF.

not rooted, just stock. but the way you described it is exactly what happens. buttons light up, things can happen (you can hear it) but totally black screen.

yep. i figured i'd wait as long as i can before i decide to root (really don't have any reason to... i've always rooted my devices, my G1 and G2... just don't really have a need to yet with this phone)
I'm running Rubix v5.3 ICS Splashed, and the same exact thing happened to me tonight, weird...
Pulled the phone out of my pocket and screen was black. You could hear lock sounds and keys light up but the screen stayed black.
Pulled the battery and all is well again. This can't be a coincidence, can it?
This has happened to me periodically both on stock and on bulletproof, I never really gave it much thought though, because it was easily fixed by a reboot.

i'll probably just end up forgetting about it soon enough, but it's just annoying that our phone should have an issue like that. if i had money to switch phones whenever i want i'd already have left it because of this issue, you know what i mean?

It's been progressively getting worse, now I get just a black screen nothing coming up after multiple charges and battery pulls... praying it's not the screen and just a battery problem!
If it's fixed by a battery pull at first then it's most likely just a battery issue.

No luck after battery pull, you think it's screen then or flex cable? The screen worked like 8 hours ago with minor black-outs one or twice a day to more frequently and random reboots like 6-8 just today!
Flex cable could cause flickering. You're really quite SOL with it then.

Yeah, you may need to get it repaired. :|
I'm not sure if it's lag or what, but my phone screen won't come on. I think it's a ribbon that was disconnected or something though. For about a few hours if I were to press power to see the lock screen, all I saw where a bunch of rainbow static. Then I powered my phone on and off because nothing would work and now it's jut black! Does anyone know what's wrong? I can't boot into clockwork so I don't think it's a rom problem. Does anyone know the problem or have any idea to fix? Anyone I should ask specifically?
maybe water? even having my phone in the bathroom while i take a shower cause me that
It's not water, I never bring my phone close to place with water :/
can you boot into the screen where there are 3 droids with the skateboards? (i not sure whats the name)
I think I can boot and my phone still works, because it still rings when someone calls and it still vibrates when someone text it, but I just can't pick up or reply (because the screen won't come on). I should be able to boot into that thing, but I can't anything :/
well bro sorry i cant help you :/ maybe it could be the screen, the ribons or somethings loose. did it fell?

Seems like either broken ribbon that connects the screen to the "motherboard', or dead screen itself. That's exactly how 1 of my phones died (it was too complicated to disassemble and fix it myself)
But once I had similar problem with my TP2, the screen first become unresponsive to any touch, and then it went just black after restart (and every next restart). However all keys did work.
Hard reset somewhat helped, the screen actually came back, but it was still stuck on setting up Windows Mobile (if you know WinMo: the part where you calibrate touchscreen), apparently "touch" part of the screen didn't work.
I thought it is ribbon or screen assembly, but since all the keys worked I flashed another ROM and what do you know: all problems went away. It worked fine for as long as I had it. I never figured out what caused it/was the problem.

Yea I think that's the problem here. I think I'm just going to borrow a friends mt4gs to use and navigate recovery and do a back up and just buy a new one and restore. Thanks for all the help guys
Hi all. I'm having an issue with a 727R. I replaced a broken screen and now can't get the screen to stay on. Its a non rooted, factory 2.3.5 phone. When I turn it on, the sghi-727r screen pops up for several seconds and then dissappears, phone vibrates once, notification sounds appear shortly and all touch functions appear to work (by sound and haptic feedback). For all intents and purposes, this phone is on and working perfectly...if you're blind lol. I know the replacement screen works because it works perfectly if I go into download (odin) mode. I've been searching threads and haven't been able to come up with a solution, as most of the other blank screens are from bad flashes. Keep in mind that I am also testing this with the casing removed as it is a repair for a friend (if that makes any difference). Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
Is the brightness maybe turned ALL the way down? When it finishes booting shine a flashlite on the screen and tell me if u can see text, icons etc...
I'll do that as soon as I get home this afternoon. I could only hope that's all it is, but i'm a little skeptical that I could be so lucky. forgot to mention that I have also odin flashed the stock rom back on just in case of software corruption. I would also think that I would get full boot logo's during the boot sequence, but hey!....its definately worth a shot! I've seen stranger things . Thanks for the quick response.

No worries, keep us informed. I didn't even bother to ask because I just assumed someone at your level who can change a screen would intuitively know to Odin stock... I was right :good:

So you had display for start of boot and d/l mode? If so, then I'll go no farther until I get another replacement screen.:crying:. Come to think of it, when plugged in and off, the charge symbol shows up for a second and its discoloured (almost like its made of vertical lines that are pinks and grays). You may have just saved me a lot of time. I was leaning toward trying to adb error logs in hopes of finding something. Other than that it was going to be a reflow on the gpu since the phone did do a leap of faith from 6 ft up....and lost lol.

No dice icenight. Tried out of hope but its completely black. I was really hoping for maybe a fault that could be fixed with a flash.....whoa is me....looks like I may be sending screen back and getting another. I cant send it out for another day so if anyone has any other ideas, or wishes to guinea pig this unit until one comes in, feel free to chime in. And thanks for the responses so far!

And the winner is....Crashpsycho! After months of trying to find a replacement, i finally got my hands on two of them for a decent price. Popped one in, odin'd jb stock and voila! perfect phone again. Thanks Crash!
So I sent a text before dinner, put my phone down on the table, and ate. When I finished and tried to check my phone, it was off. The power key is unresponsive, along with no vibration on hold. I've done all the possible button holds for about a minute. It doesn't seem to register at all when plugged into the computer. I have a crack in my screen from an unfortunate drop about a month ago, so I know RMA is off the table.
Is there anyway I can fix this, or is this a case of ponying up for a replacement?
PS: It's also rooted, with CF-autorooter if I remember properly, with stock 4.4.2

If the phone doesn't respond to any key combinations, there's little you can do with it.
Why not try to RMA it? If it's a little crack, I doubt whether they will deny RMA. Besides that, you've got nothing to loose.

Hey Guys!
I was wiping my phone with lysol wet wipes to clean it today and let it dry for a bit. When I picked it up it worked fine but the power button wasn't very responsive (Didn't register few times). Later on today I picked my phone up and it wouldn't turn on . At first I thought it was the power button but that works fine. I can hear my phones click and can even take a screenshot, but the screen doesn't show anything it is just black. Any help?
You mat have fried it by getting it wet I'm afraid.
I'd get it off and get it in a bag of rice for a day or 2.

Hey, man I'm having the exact same problem. I thinks it's a problem that some Nexus have because I found this video on youtube and its very similar to mine: youtube. com/watch?v=V6PtbuImXUs
No my screen it does turns on and not just stays all black, but it stays like with a lof of little dots like when there's no signal on a tv. It has been like this for over a month. I'm talking with the guys of LG for a warranty :/ Best of luck, bro! If you find any other solution, I'd be glad to know.
i left it in rice yesterday, and will take it out in a day. Will report back!
So i took it out of the rice, and put the phone back together. Nexus 5 got really hot when i tried to power it on so i just took out the battery plug to avoid any more damage. Any advice on what to do next?

I don't think LG would help much in this situation... They'll make me pay more than the phone costs.

The display is fried.. Possibly, the battery is affected as well by looking at your previous comment.
All you can do is, replace the damaged parts which might cost you a bomb. However, instead of doing it yourself, let LG take a look at your device first and get a quote from them! There's no harm in getting one. You will just need to pay the labour charges incurred for opening up your device and examining it.

quick update: I was able to flash a rom using wug fresh and it boots normally. I can take screenshots, open the camera and take pictures, speaker works fine. I'm guessing this is only a display problem now? any ideas on anything I need to do in order to test other hardware areas to check damage?
