"Marketed as The New HTC One, this device (m8) is the successor to the m7. H8rift, toastcfh, deck, invisiblek and other CM maintainers have already taken up the challenge to bringing CM to this device. No builds yet to share, but we will keep you updated as things progress."

So I don't mind sense. But I downloaded a stock ish Rom yesterday and it was 1.2 GB
That's 1 Gb more than cm of stuff I don't use. I like very lean roms that occupy less space and are highly performant.

Sense is awesome. Much more functionality and customization than AOSP although I sometimes do have the urge of running minimalistic AOSP.

I had cm on Verizon galaxy nexus! I started getting upset at the time it took to get to stable builds.
I doubt AOSP will be able to make the Duo Camera work. So, no special effects like focusing on different parts and other junk like that.
Might as well stick with Sense 6. It seems to be working very well so far.
surprisingly enough i dont mind sense...not the case with that steaming load Samsung calls Touchwiz. I would like to get back to aosp roms but i want the sense camera or one that can utilize the dual camera functions. That wont be long off...htc release the api for the dual camera so there will be options soon enough

HTC wants 3rd party development on the camera. They released an SDK. That may help.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/htc-releases-dual-lens-sdk-for-the-htc-one-m8-2014/
My issues with sense revolves around the lockscreen and how it handles notification sounds.
With sense in place dashclock, which I prefer, I can't replace the stock lockscreen. Even using AOSP lock screen on Viper is not optimal since my tasker script does not allow me to situationally disable/reenable the lock screen.
There seems to be an issue on how sense handles notifications. I use a third party app to give me situational sound profiles, similar to what is offered in CM. When using it with sense I don't get reliable results. The built in sound profiles in sense aren't flexible enough.
Maybe I've just been using AOSP too long but I find sense too restrictive for how I use my phone.

can the gpe on the international edition not utilize the dual camera functions? if it can, i don;t see why aosp roms cannot just keep the camera driver and the camera app from gpe.
sense is a million times better than the touchwiz garbage, but nothing is a little better than sense.

I actually LIKE Sense (and completely agree about TouchWiz.) I have liked Sense back to the earliest versions but CyanogenMod has been my daily driver for a very long time. I am delighted to see Invisiblek is on the M8 project, I hope CM will be here soon and I'll be switching ROMs as I did with my Galaxy S3 and S4, running CyanogenMod until a problem shows up in a nightly and then switching back to Andybone's most excellent Bonestock ROM until CM gets fixed again. Eventually, CM became perfect (for me) on the Galaxy phones and I could stop switching and I know that's what will happen with the M8.

"Frankly, it'd be silly to have extra hardware on a phone that's completely unusable, so the Google Play edition will still take advantage of the Duo Camera functionality. Predictably, the app itself is the stock Google version, but the HTC magic comes out as soon as you enter the Photos app and try editing your shots. You'll be prompted to open up "HTC Photo Edit," and you'll see a screen that looks much like what you'd find in the Sense gallery, but with fewer options: UFocus, Dimension Plus and Touch Up are the only Duo Camera-esque effects listed, which means the Foregrounder, Seasons and Copy/Paste functions didn't make the cut. (Filters, frames and tools are still hanging out on the right sidebar.) UFocus is our favorite of the Duo Camera options, so we're glad to see it there, but Dimension Plus is a useless and gimmicky feature that we just don't use very often."
from http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/08/htc-one-m8-google-play-edition/
it seems like the driver and photo editing software that is the real key behind dual cameras is on gpe so those should port over seamlessly to aosp based roms.

i dont see a reason for the dual camera not to work on the GPE edition.

Chop chop and double twist are working on it. I've been running it for the last few days now, and it's my favorite ROM. The 03/12 build is better than the 03/13 build. The 03/13 build was chewing up my battery.

I tried it for a day and it seemed very unstable and buggy. But so was Broken OS, and PureNexus. I don't know if it's my phone, or just the ROMs becoming more unstable than they were in February. I haven't found a DD yet.

Yeah :/ I had really high hopes. At times it seemed great. I wished there was a way to turn their theme from holo blue to red! I've been using black and red themes lately. I wish I could remember the specific issues I had with this one. I know Broken would be working fine, then just crash, and not power up again. Pure nexus only had 3/4 of the features working, and had all the notofication and scrolling lag that the CM ROMs have. Who knows. Could be my device.

I apologize, but I can't honestly remember now. I can't remember if that was the one that would have apps close on me, or open on me without any input, or why I used the word unstable and buggy. If I say something is unstable and buggy, it typically means I had significant issues, beyond the normal one or two things that just don't work. But I unfortunately cannot remember.
I would like to note however, I noticed that restoring my apps and data with TiBu seemed to be causing some of my issues with the ROMs from that timeframe. Because I flashed the same purenexus build twice, once with restoring apps and data, and once by reinstalling everything from the play store, and noticed a huge difference. Using TiBu was much buggier, on the very same build. So it might have been that.
Link??
Restoring system data with TB can cause all sorts of weird issues. I strictly use it to restore apps/data for everything else, but not system data.
Sometimes it helps to wipe internal storage too when moving from one rom type to another (ie, stock based to aosp).
I haven't tried tesla rom yet, but may give it a shot in the future.

Personally I don't care much about AOSP's, not just because I don't like it but also because I buy a Samsung phone for the hardware/software they offer, so I don't expect someone to do necessarily an AOSP ROM for it (even tho I'm willing to help the devs that will be interested on it). So my reply is the following: Have you got enough patience to wait someone works on it? Yes, you wait for it while you stay on Stock ROM (it isn't bad tho, TouchWiz 2012/13 times are a far memory); No, you try to code yourself a working device tree/kernel or sell your A8 and get another phone that isn't a Samsung one

Well Exynos is headache for this same reason(unless some other OEM adopts it to ease things up), and also Samsung usually makes it hard for us to get any kind of opening with it's devices to build stuff for it. If you ask me, at this rate the pros of getting a Custom ROM in your device is getting outweighed by the cons. I would also agree that 'Samsung Experience' is far better than the 'TouchWiz' nightmare.

don't you always lose image quality when switching from stock to custom rom, no matter if it's a Sony, Samsung or OnePlus?
many OnePlus users still return to stock rom because of the worse image quality on custom roms.
I've never heard anything different than that.
correct me if I'm wrong.
It's for almost every brand the same: AOSP never came completely up to stock, because of the framework and optimization from the original builders: The OEM. But since we have many good devs around, porting the Google Camera to fit for our device, at least non-pro shots will be equal, if not better than stock. You can come close with several other apps too:
• Open Camera
• Snap Camera HDR Pro (Smells a bit abandoned, to be honest.)
• A Better Camera Unlocked (Also smells abandoned, but works fine. At least for now.)
• Footej Camera Pro
• Hedge Cam 2 (With the correct settings, you will get par to better photos than with stock. Based on Open Camera.)
For normal, I'd list Manual Camera and Camera FV-5 too, but both are too old and are for sure completely abandoned.

Micky,
based on solely the image quality - would you prefer a custom rom on the op5/5t or the stock rom? and even though you probably don't own a crystal glass ball, what's your stand on this when it comes to the op6?
thx!
I was and I ever will be a user of CyanogenMod / LinageOS. At least, you should switch one time back, because of this:
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/open-ears-forums-key-actions-update.865969/
When this fixes come out, OxygenOS should really become obsolete in terms of image quality. But spoken of this: Isn't there a nice, working Google Camera port already out for the 5/5T? I skipped the 5/5T, because OnePlus really pis... me off for reasons - another story.

(Saturation 1000%, ****ty camera, Fingerprint basically never working..)
I want something with new features, everyone says "it's not just another pixel rom" when in fact, it is.

For saturation, I made a subject on it which solves the problem.
For the camera, not a problem for me I hardly ever use it and that of the Neo 2 is really not great
Problem with the fingerprint sensor? Mine works perfectly on Elixir

The real problem is, why whould I use a rom that it needs a repair for daily use?

Because it's a custom, it's rarely perfect. Personally, I don't mind running a line of code (which I saved to the clipboard) when the phone boots.
At least I can have a pure Android 13
If you're rooted, download smartpack kernel manager from fdroid and change saturation intensity according to your preference
