Can't see running processes - Onetouch Idol 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed recently that I can no longer see running processes/apps on my idol 3. I use an app called system panel which is just a basic task manager app and it no longer shows any running processes at all except itself. It still seems to be getting other system stats fine (CPU, RAM, etc). This seemed to coincide with one of the previous OTAs and so I just assumed I would need to wait for an app update. The app has been updated a few times since and there has been at least one additional OTA and the problem persists. So then I decided to try some other apps and turns out none of them were showing running apps, they all had this same problem.
Anyone else have this problem? I know these apps work on newer versions of Android than we have on the idol 3, so I'm guessing either something Alcatel did in one of the OTAs broke some api or something I did broke the phone... I'm not rooted or xposed or anything like that (bootloader is unlocked though, but that's been for a long time an it worked after that). Phone is up to date with stock OTA.

Stagefright patch change things on who can view/access processes information. Find another app of wait until your app gets updated.

Ah OK.
Do you know if that is only on the idol or is that a generic consequence to fixing stagefright that affects all phones?

If your phone has reboot issues please help out

For those of you who are experiencing the random reboot issue on the stock rom, would anyone be willing to do a factory reset without installing any apps and testing for a while to see if they still have the reboot?
I want to find out if this issue is a problem related to specific g2x's, or is triggered by some kind of software installed.
The reason why I want to test this out is because I have gone through 6 phones(waiting for 7th), and I can not recreate this problem on any of them running the same restored nandroid backup.
Also, for those of you who have gone through multiple g2x's, have you had phones with reboots and also ones without the issue
Since it seems LG is not recognizing this as a known issue, it most likely won't be fixed in the update they announced. Therefore its up tous to try find the cause of this issue whether it is device specific or due to certain apps installed.

I thougjt I clarified in my original post that none of mine had the reboot issue and I was not able to recreate it either.

If it a software related issue, it couldn't be the ROM since some people have this issue on other roms. It could be the kernel but all g2x's come with the same kernel out of the box IIRC and only some people are having the issue.
EDIT: wow I'm really inaccurate typing in portrait mode

I never had a reboot issue in Arizona and I just got back to Ohio today and i have randomly rebooted 4 times today and I had to do a battery pull this morning... crack that nut for me
I went through 2 G2x's.
First one stock, rooted, and CM7 - all ways would reboot.
Second one, stock, rooted and CM7, all ways would reboot, so I tried it stock and CM7 without any added on apps - same results both stock and CM7.

It seems that people who are getting reboots, are getting reboots across multiple g2x's, while people who aren't getting reboots, don't have the issue across multiple g2x's. So there must be some kind of installed software related thing that is not playing nice and causing the phone to reboot itself. There isn't enough info in order to make a definite diagnosis to the source of the problem yet which is why I made this topic.
I feel that it's definitely software b/c I've been running the leak without any reboot issues. They still need to also fix the kernel too

what is confusing me is if it is software, why is it only affecting some people? the leak is running a different kernel so that could possibly be why you aren't getting reboots, but something must be triggering it that the people who have the issue have down/installed etc.

Orrrrr...perhaps it related to the network somehow? Strength of signal or need for the phone to switch between 4G/2G? Or perhaps trying to go to the ever elusive 3g (since I still haven't seen a report of someone actually seeing 3g in the notification bar). Maybe folks with reboots are in fringe areas and the phone oscillates between 4g and 2g and doesn't like it? Maybe those folks use their phones differently...leave BT on all the time and run apps that access GPS regularly. Or any other number of possibilities.
It's too easy to blame an app.
I know that one of the barcode scanning apps caused my phone to lock up, and sometimes reboot.

Thats why I'm asking people to participate in this experiment. By eliminating variables one by one we can try to single out the cause.
EDIT: also, the 4g signal shows for both 4g and 3g. The only way u can tell which one you are on is by going to "about phone". UTMS is 3g then there hspa(+).

Mine actually rebooted randomly very often. It didn't matter what rom I had (Stock, Eagle, CM7). I tried everything.... factory resets, removed apps, etc. It's just very random when it decides to reboot. Sometimes when I'm using google maps, sometimes when I'm trying to text, or when I'm playing with an app. It got so annoying that I had to return the phone.
I noticed that the times my G2x has rebooted was when it got hot. For example, if I charge it, talk and surf at the same time it will start getting hot and either freeze or reboot. Sometimes just charging it will freeze it.
I'm trying out a new battery and so far the phone seems to run cooler...its 25.2c right now and I've been playing with the phone for a while...with the stock battery I dont remember the temperature below 27c ever...sometimes with heavy use I would see it go as high as 43c...
it's only been one day with the new battery but I'll let you guys know how it behaves the next few days.

Well android leaves apps open. There is no exit button on the apps that kills it. I religiously kill tasks and check to see what's running. Is there any type of reporting app that will tell you what was running at the time of the reboot like maemo/N900 has?
As far as I know, I have not had one reboot. Has not been a full week though. If it was rebooting in the night, I guess I wouldn't know it.
Hell, I haven't had any real probs. My Gps was way off, but I rebooted it outside and it's been dead on since.
I love my G2X.
I just got an exchanged phone due to reboot/shutdown issues. I did not install any 3rd party software, and i had a shutdown that required a battery pull while it was on the factory charger.
Not sure if I should keep exchanging until I get one that works or not...

Since I updated my Nexus S (i9020a to be exact) to ICS 4.0.4, my phone has been randomly rebooting like everyday! I did manually update it but I got stock Android and also I am unrooted not have my bootloader unlocked. Why is this happening so frequently? Should I factory reset my phone?

Personally I've had several occurences of random reboots and actually at the phone lock into a reboot loop till I pulled the battery.
I think the issue is RAM management. The Nexus S doesn't have as much RAM as most tablets and it's younger sister the Galaxy Nexus. Something in how the OS decides which of the background services should be terminated and cached under heavy RAM load seems to be part of the problem.
For example, I seem to have improved my phone stability by removing apps that update in the background and don't need to (UAL, I'm looking at you ) and disabling background updates in other applications (TripIt, PodKicker Pro, etc) to prevent them from leaving background services running. That seems to have helped in my case.

wipe data may solve this issue.
I have been running Pete's Bugless Beast which has both the ROM and Kernel updated to 4.0.4. Never had a random reboot.
I doubt it is a memory issue. When my phone doesn't have a foreground app open it usually has 130 MB ~ 150 MB free. I never see it go below 100 MB.

Exactly when is it powercycling?
Is it when running a certain app? When plugged in? When on standby? When you set it down or bump it?
There a number of different reasons the phone could be powercycling.
If it's while running a certain app or completely at random while you're not using it, unprevoked, first try hard resetting it. That will resolve the majority of issues.
If it's when you set it down or it's bumped, it's an issue with the battery making contact. Remove your battery, clean the contacts gently with a pencil eraser, make sure the contacts are clean and free from pocket lint on the phone itself and reinsert the battery.
If it's still doing it after a reset, it could be your processor. The best way I've found to test your processor is to max it out. You can do this by running a benchmark app over and over while everything on your phone is running. I personally use "Neocore" (available in the Play Store). Turn on your bluetooth, wifi, max your screen brightness, gps, every battery sucking processor running setting available. Run Neocore as 'Interactive Mode'. If you run that for an hour without powercycling, your processor is good. If it powercycles, you have a bad processor and should have your phone replaced through Samsung warranty.
Best of luck to you!
Random reboot
My phone is rebooting at least 15 times a day !
It is very random : during a phone call/installing an app/unlock the phone/writing with keyboard/phone is idle...
Applications are also often not responding...
I did a factory reset/wipe data several times but it didnt change anything.
Phone :Nexus S i9023
Carrier : unlocked ( HK )
OS/build number : Android 4.04/IMM76D
A really big amount of people posted the same issue on google mobile forum. ( i can't post link yet as it is my first post ) title "Random reboot of nexus with Android 4" ( please google it ) , but nobody mentionned anything with CPU. Could it be really that many people having a default CPU ?
After my last post, no reboots for while but now reboots are back with increasing frequency.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
I don't usually like resurrect a really old thread, but after a road trip where my Nexus S randomly rebooted 4-5 times while running Podkicker Pro and Maps Navigation I went and reset my device to factory defaults. The next day I had the phone reboot in the middle of a podcast. Today it rebooted halfway through the first ring when I received a call.
Seems to be, at least in my case, that the reboots are related to mp3 audio.
This lead me to find this bug logged against the galaxy nexus: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=22669
It doesn't provide an answer, but it does provide some insight. I think personally I might look at different ringtone formats and see if converting my custom ringtone to something other than MP3 will help, but I'm not optimistic.

My S3's sensors won't work. 100% software related.

Greetings XDA gods! I've been a member for a long time and this is my first post with a question, as I am good at searching and answering my own questions in order to allow others time to be dedicated to making our devices better. I will describe the issue now.
I was running CM 10.1 stable since it came out. I resisted my addiction to flashing my phone every other day successfully, for a long time. My phone was functioning fine. I then decided to flash the first stable 10.2 CM version. Here is where problems began. The flash went perfect as usual and I will now describe what happened next.
1. I noticed that my rotation wasn't working.
2. I searched and discovered a handful of people had the same issues with their own GS3s.
3. I downloaded an app which 'forced' rotation. It worked. That indicates my sensor's aren't physically broken. The app was cumbersome and not automatic so I removed it.
4. I full wiped, flashed 10.2 again, same issue.
5. I full wiped, flashed 10.1??? like I had been running before and still had the non rotation problem happening.
6. Searched and discovered that I had no access to the hidden menu (to manually test the sensors) as CM** doesn't include the hidden menu options in their Roms.
7. Searched forums from all websites remotely related to CM 10.2 and discovered a bigger number of people had the issue, but some had the issue fixed with a nightly release.
8. I full wiped and flashed the nightly they described fixed the issue. (I flash, full wipe, flash, wipe cache's, etc., reboot then reboot again.).
9. The non rotation persisted.
10. I found out Verizon was pushing an ota 4.3 update and although I don't ever partake in that devilish activity, in my desperation for a fix, I decided to go 'there' knowing I'd have to life with my decision until a Dev cracked boot loader, etc..
10. I used the files from this forum to 'stock' my phone, including unroot and flash counter.
11. The 1st flash of the stock version still didn't fix the problem.
12. I rewiped and flashed again, this time updating from the Verizon 'check for updates' menu option.
13. I am now unhappily running 4.3 stock, unrooted (for now) and the rotation problem persists.
14. The was a second, literally, in between the updates that the screen rotated! I was already processing the flash, so I couldn't stop it.
15. I downloaded a app to check sensors. I think its called sensorbox. It reports no sensor info from any one of the movement sensors.
16. My GPS navi function works?! Which it shouldn't. Yet another reason it's software related.
So, for the first time, I am asking this awesome community for help, as my wife and kids are tired of my obsession to fix my phone and all said I need to stop. I am not 'in warranty', so I can't return it.
As a side note from not running any TW Roms since I got my phone, the UI is refreshing. All except for the non rotation..
So, any help that's sensible, not "pull battery and then hold left ear and hop up and down", would be greatly appreciated. I have done all the normal fixs for rom flashing issues, to no avail..
Kurt

did you ever try the calibrating option in developer options(not sure on where this menu is, on 4.1 tw right now) same place you usually turn backlights off at. might have been worth trying but i have no idea how to do that on the new tw update stuff.
you could always just go to a store and tell them the update borked it. raise some hell and dont mention it being rooted and you might get a new one.
Moved from Original Development (which it is not), to the more appropriate Verizon Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting (where questions and help go... Hence the title)...
Well I enabled Dev options. There isn't any calibration options. I searched and found that it seems that 4.3 doesn't have the old option to set your phone down on a flat surface and hit calibrate anymore. The settings are under motions/sensitivity but they (3diff types) have no effect at all.

Which Id figure there would be at least 1 dev/smarter person than us looking into this issue or at least providing suggestions. I am getting discouraged!

I'm on board if you can find me a willing and able guinea pig. Root and ADB are mandatory, and I'd strongly prefer AOSP ROMs over TW. Some familiarity with the command line for whatever OS they use would be nice, but definitely isn't required. I can't offer much help setting up ADB except on Linux.

the fact that I tried to fix it with the OTA update to 4.3 from verizon, the option to reflash is not an option yet. Unless I am mistaken.
Which may be a good thing.

My phone just started doing this today. Also a Sprint Note 5. No software updates installed recently... most recent was the Sprint and Samsung updates for Samsung Pay, which I did set up-- but I did that day 1. Right before the problem started happening, the phone rebooted itself, and it hasn't been well since. I checked aLogcat, but nothing gets logged there. After a few of the "Bootstrap failed..." toasts, the phone just becomes unresponsive and I have to hard shutdown. The only thing that I can think of that I've done differently today was plug my phone into my laptop to charge it earlier. I don't think I'd ever plugged it into my laptop before.
Hopefully somebody can pin down the cause of the problem here. I'm surprised that aLogcat doesn't show anything, which makes me wonder if it's some Knox issue...

Same problem, I have stock Sprint Note 5 with Samsung Pay updated and activated. Worked fine for a few days then all of the sudden I started getting "Bootstrap Failed" and my phone is unresponsive and/or data connection stops functioning forcing me to restart.
Is Sprint/Samsung aware of this issue and working on a fix? Very annoying. I've uninstalled all updates to Sprint Zone, force stopped and cleared data for Sprint Zone which appeared to help for a couple days, but now it's back again.
Has anyone had any luck with hard / factory reset? I don't want to go through the hassle of backing everything up, wiping it clean and reinstalling everything if at the end of the day it doesn't make a difference.
After a few more lock ups and reboots yesterday, my phone started behaving normally again, but just now I saw another "Bootstrap failed..." toast, so clearly the problem has not gone away. It hasn't locked up again on me yet, so maybe I'll be okay for a while. The only references I've seen to this error have all pointed to the Sprint Note 5, and most have mentioned Samsung Pay, so I suspect it's an issue there. Whether or not Samsung/Sprint are aware of it, I don't know.
I've also read it may or may not have something to do with Sprint Zone. I would agree it's purely due to the recent Samsung Pay update as I've had the Note since launch day and only noticed this after activating and updating Samsung Pay late last week. Before that I used the phone for nearly a month with no issues whatsoever.
While my phone hasn't locked up or rebooted by itself, I still get the "bootstrap failed..." occasionally.
I too think it was associated with the Sprint Zone and/or Samsung Pay update.
late,
Coz
I have only seen it once. Im fully stock to latest update. It happened to me after i noticed i had no data connection showed full lte but i had nothing opened up sprint zone and tried to refresh showed error. Then bootsrtap failed, have not seen it since

Bootstrap failed
It started happening to me after my fingerprint recognition failed, and I could not remember my backup password.
Just started happening to me a few days ago. completely stock sprint phone with the latest update (samsung pay). I noticed that right after the message PRL update began. After that and updating the profile, i havent seen the message.
Any updates on this? I went into Best Buy this weekend and had Samsung Experience store re-flash the OS to the phone, uninstalled Sprint Zone, uninstalled Samsung Pay updates, and force stopped Samsung Pay Framework. It worked fine for a few days but it started showing "Bootstrap failed" again. While it doesn't freeze up like it did the first time I received that message, in general the connectivity seems spotty (I'll show I'm connected to Wifi but nothing shows up on web browser or apps).
The problem is when Samsung Pay installed, it also installed an update to Android, and the Samsung Experience store in Best Buy can only flash the latest version of the OS. They can't revert back to the stock version of Android that came with the phone.
That's the biggest problem. Samsung and Google should make it so that they can revert back to a prior version of Android if the latest version has major bugs in it (which has been increasingly the case since Lollipop began rolling out). I had ZERO problems with the stock software/firmware that came with the device out of the box. Lesson learned I guess, don't accept an update if the version you have works well, until at least a couple months of the new update being out in the wild first....
Haven't seen this notice in a few days. It stopped after manual prl and profile update.
On a side note, I disabled the Samsung pay via package disable pro
Anyone figure this out?

Stop 6.0MM OTA Update?

My phone said it's going to automatically install and download the update tonight at 11pm all while giving me no option to opt out. This seems a little ridiculous.. Forcing customers to update their devices?
Can someone tell me what I need to disable? I've already downloaded the program 'DisableService' but have no clue what I need to disable. I've also heard someone say that freezing the apps with titanium makes no difference, two of their stylos received the update regardless. Anyone wanna help?
Anybody?

That's the problem. Nobody knows what to disable in the Stylo to stop OTA updates. I've had Samsung phones for years and rooted all of them and we knew what to disable or the developer did it in the ROM.
(Another issue is there are no devs and not alot of users here)

Wait, are you serious? No one knows what to freeze or what to disable as far as services? Are there any apps that anyone here knows of that analyze the files running and what service is called when the OTA message pops up? That should be a sure fire way to figure it out.

If you're rooted then you'll just freeze the lg software updater. I'm sure it's a service somewhere. When the OTA message pops up long press on the notification and it'll show you what app it is. From there go in and freeze that app/service.

when i long pressed on the notification to check it out, it said google play services...which i thought was quite weird...i am rooted on katana so i just ignored it and it went away
I am also rooted on Katana and have had to delete the update out of the cache folder about 3 times now. It seems it only downloads late at night.
Also, love me some griz wint green dip_spit!
Try what's suggested in this post! I haven't had enough time to know if it's fully working, but haven't received a notice as of yet.

Your phone is rooted, right?
I used this on rooted Samsungs. Does it work on unrooted LG G Stylo's?
My phone is running on Katana, so yes it is rooted. Not sure this would work on a non rooted device as you have to place the file in the /system/apps/ folder.

same here. i'm on katana and want to stop getting ota. Will try this tonight see if it helps stoping the OTA.
Funny, I'm trying to get the update and it told me it would once install and just to make sure 100% charge and etc; and when it rebooted it booted right back into my phone and now I don't get the 6.0 update, or even an option to push it to my phone lol...
In system/lgapplicationmanager.apk , I added .bak to the filename and haven't
Had a toast since i long held the update notice and turnd off "notication on top of all " on goggle play services settings.
The suggestion I made works. Haven't had it pop up since.
