Help me decide over G4 or S6 - General Questions and Answers

Hello xda. Good day.
My purpose of creating this thread is because I have a very limited time to buy which phone I will get to cherish my memories while inside japan.
My uncle and I decided to visit my sister and my neice in Japan this January. Today is now in the month of october so I have still three months left to save money on one of these devices.
I searched each of the specs and I find it very impressive. Actually I have an I9505 before but I sold it over an iphone 5S. Well I don't like apple but I need this for imessage to communicate with my family (they don't like communicating with messenger though).
I have only a limited time in japan so I have to take a memory as many as I can even though the mind is the best memory to have (lol wtf? Just kidding).
A thought of a user of these devices will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :good: I might be back to Xda soon in no time
I have a thought getting a G3 too (if any circumstances changes unexpectedly), but let me see your thoughts.

General Question on Phone Announcement to Retail

Hey everyone, happy Monday,
I have a quick question about the amount of time it takes for a phone to be announced to when it goes to retail/pre-order. The reason I ask is because my family (8 people) will be switching to Sprint from Verizon (my dad is sick of their billing and customer service) and we are going to get 4 smartphones. Being the tech geek of the family, I really want to make these smartphones the new phones being announced on the 25th. We are switching over in April, and I'm hoping to be able to smooth talk a manager about getting the new phones when they come out, but I know he will deny any offer if they come out during or after the summer.
Any answer/tips for smooth-talking a Sprint store manager?
What? I dont quite understand what you're asking. If the phone isn't released you can't get it, just because they announce it doesn't mean certain people can just go buy it.

Yea...after I read it over, I didn't make much sense.
So here's my situation as simply as I can explain it. There are a few new phones coming out at CTIA that I am going to purchase.
My question is, how long does it normally take for a phone to go to a retail store for consumers to buy AFTER they have been announced.
Ex. The kyocera echo (only phone I can think of right now) was announced in Jan/Feb and is going to start being sold in April.
I was hoping if someone could give my a more specific date as to when the new phones at CTIA were going to be sold (Evo 3D, may atrix for Sprint).
I hope that clears things up, and If it doesn't, then I'm going to sleep and rethink how I word things.
@FLAC Vest: it's perfectly clear - the OP is wondering how long it takes for a phone to go from being announced to being able to buy or at the very least pre-order it.
The OP's family are hoping to switch to Sprint and get some of the new handsets they're about to announce in a couple of days time, so the OP is wondering when it's likely they'll be available.
@the OP: it varies device to device.
On one hand you have Apple, who have the iPhone on sale a couple of weeks after announcing it - albeit in limited markets.
They do this by delaying the announcement as long as possible and also because of their relatively slow product refresh cycle.
With other manufacturers it's very hit and miss.
Some like Sony Ericsson have a poor track record, having taken nearly a year in the past to get a handset to the market (though in fairness to the, nearly a year after it was leaked, not announced).
Samsung are improving but have had their share of delays, like the original Galaxy S which took a number of months to be released after it's announcement.
Generally I'd say it's around a month or two from announcement to release but sometimes phones are delayed unexpectedly.
However if a handset is exclusive to a particular network, that can sometimes speed it up a wee bit as the manufacturer is only having to supplier one company, not a miscellany of competing networks.
There's a good chance that when Sprint make their announcement, they'll also announce an expected release date.
That should give you more of an idea.
Thanks Step you
a) made me much more confident that I wasn't going insane and typing in gibber-gabber
b) answered my question completely, even above and beyond A+
Now I can only hope that the Evo 3D or Atrix will come out on sprint before/during May
BTW: Do you think anyone here knows how to sweet talk a manager?

Samsung Mobilers Open Apply NOW!!

Samsung are running the mobilers competition again this year. If you haven't heard about the competition before let me explain. They will usually send you their latest and greatest mobile tech whether it be a mobile or a tab. As an example I was provided a new Galaxy S II this year. For this though Samsung expect you to complete some challenges which would be set to you.
This competition was open last year and there are about 10 remaining mobilers from last year myself included. This year they are running it again and everyone who took place last year are involved this time around again. So this is definitely not just an enter and win competition, This keeps on giving. I thought I would get you guys on board though because you are such a great bunch and this forum has been so good to me. Unfortunately I can't guarantee you will get a position but you should apply for a chance of getting in.
Just fill in the attached form and send to the email in the form by the 6th June 2011
Good Luck
Are you sure this is licensed by Samsung?
Edit: Viewing the form it kind of looks unlike "Samsung", I dont mean to be rude or anything, but I dont want to provide information for fraudulent things.
Bump i n g this post
I can guarantee you this is genuine i have been doing this for over a year now. Three of my friends doing this got flown over to Korea to Samsungs head quarters. Others sent to wmc at no expense. We have had some of their new mobile stuff to play with and keep.
I know it usually says if it looks too good to be true it probably is. In this case it really is genuine. The email you send it to is samsungs UK pr company.
It is an amazing thing to be apart of. Just Google Samsung Mob!lers or Samsung mobiles abduction you will see they ran this all over the world last year

[Canadian] The big @$$ Canada Thread

Hi all,
Searched for one big Canadian updates thread haven't found any, though I would creat this one.
I'm back with my Galaxy S2 LTE HD on CM 10.1 , after I sold my S3 in anticipation of the S4.
Now I want your opnion (some of you will like this)
Imagine you are a long time Nokia fan (don't ask me why!) you move to another country, you find a carrier with good monthly plan, you get a phone (that happens to be an entry level Android) you are excited to what it is capable of.
your friend the geek tell you about all the apps you can install, but your Android 2.3 phone gives you out of memory errors (you have no clue how to solve that), you miss having a front facing camera and on top of that one day you drop the phone and smash its screen.
Now you want a new phone. you call your geek freind in Canada (you see now where this is going) and he is totally unfamiliar with most of the models that are in offer, you discover together that the company runs a CDMA network :silly: . So this excludes most of the NORMAL phones, you also discover that they charge alot for models tat came out 2 years back, cheaply bought second hand off ebay!
You are on a budget , you want the best phone for the least price. your friend reach out for the community to help him out (Ok now you are getting it) and he asks the community to take a look at :
virgin mobile usa --> Phones
and decide which phone the friend should buy.
This is a great excercise , because some of the phones are not familiar so you are only armed with your knowledge of the brands and the features/specifications listed & expected performance.
let me know, the story is real, he is still waiting using a crappy phone from the carrier's recycling bin!
thanks for reading

The First XDA Phone

Hello anyone reading this message.
My name is gregory. I am like most of you pretty pissed about the behavior of canonical (at least if you followed the ubuntu edge fund campaign http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge). What a lame way to make advertising. Of course, anyone with a bit of sense would smell the scam here, 32,000,000$ in a month? come on man!!! So here I am. I've been a flasholic for years and I think I came up with the idea of making my own cell phone about 3 years ago. fear, shyness and lack of funds made me drop the idea several time. But today we have the possibility to change the cell phone world together, thanx to canonical's lame way to advertise their OS. Basically here is my idea, Why not fund our own XDA phone? After all, many of us having problem or getting fed up with the slow updates of our phones are coming here to get things done. Most of us don't wait anymore for those big brands to update our devices. So why in the world are we waiting for them to build them. I've been around XDA for quite some times now and all I see here is a great mix of DEV. So correct me if i'm wrong. The dev on XDA are for most way faster and more reliable than the one at samsung, htc etc. the parts for the phones are all made in china for the most part, we all know some designers and the ubuntu edge crowfunding made it to 12,000,000 +. So here is my question to you people on XDA. Why don't we make our own phone the same way. Even 10,000,000 would be largely enough to make simply the best phone in the world. we could make a poll about each part and design in the phone, and i'm pretty sure the dev here would agree to make the device better. Not only because they will be pay for it, but because they love it. I am no business man, neither a develloper. I don't know code or anything in that matter. Now let me tell you my vision (and no i didn't take LSD for it)
imagines a phone with the latest specs like the edge. 128gb drive storage, 4gb ram, sapphire glass etc etc, it would be nice, but now imagine the same device with the XDA community back up, updates and corrections every 1 or 2 months, pushed straight to your phone without need of external program (kies, itunes or else... why is it call mobile phone if you need to have a computer to update it?), a minimum of 3 years updates, and of course, the ability to solve your problem here without having to talk with lame company commercials who would send your phone to korea just because they don't know anything about the product they sell. won't it be a dream? - more ideas are very welcome and that's why WE should do our own phone.
As I said, i'm not into the cell phone business, although I know some things about business in china, i'm no designer or dev, but i'm sure we could put up a pretty team from people here and make it happen. And when it's done, start a crowfunding. I know it would work because the name XDA alone stand for quality and improvement in our mobile world today. I have in mind that anyone willing to do that would succeed and I can't protect this kind of idea since i'm not the one who invent cell phone. but I also think the great thing with the xda community is that there is no lame boss or greedy stock sharers to decide what people should do or not. I'm hard working and if people think we should make it then i'm willing to work my ass, even travel (i'm from Paris, france not texas ) overseas to make this happen. here is the team i think we should put together to see this device built:
- people who knows the chinese technology market (where to buy and select company)
- DEV who knows about Android devellopment (maybe ubuntu or any other)
- designers ( let's try to make something more beautiful than the iphone )
- lawyers (I guess)
- commercials
any other ideas are welcome.
I opened this thread just to see your reactions on the subjects. it a little messy because i have so many things in my mind but feel free to argue, critisized, encourage, or just explain to us anything that comes in your mind. cheers

A search would have shown you this has already been talked about and "If" it ever did happen it would not be with any parts from China at all. The parts would have to be of the highest quality. But as I said this has already been talked about before.

Budget phones (under EUR/USD100) worth buying in Europe praised by the XDA community?

Meaning, the phone is popular with developers, as it is easy to hack, custom ROMs are plenty, stable, and well supported by the XDA community.
Anything other than (last year's, or next year's) Moto E? I have nothing against the Moto E, but that's the one I know. I wonder what alternatives are out there. Last years version is, well, last year's, and has a 4.5" screen, this year's version, with a more preferable 5" screen is still longs months away.
Meanwhile, many 5", 1080x1920 phones with IPS display (and with 1/2 GB RAM, 8/16 GB storage, that part doesn't doesn't matter as much to me) hit the market at budget prices (read, less than 100 euros or US dollars) across the world.
My preference is:
The phones is sold by a wholly European subsidiary, with the usual 2-year warranty you usually get in Europe, with local service and support. This is the preferred option. 2-year warranty is the law here.
A 'World phone,' that is, a phone sold from China with whatever their warranties worth, as option B.
Our friends in the US are flocked to the BLU R1 HD/Amazon collaboration these days. So far so good. I wonder what current, or coming soon devices keep XDA folks from Europe, or the rest of the world intrigued?
My hunch is, you are interested in this as well, you just also don't know any better, any more than me!
Any update for December 2016??
Deep silence. I wonder if my question is entirely unreasonable, that's why you are silent, or, you are like me, you are also very interested in the answer of this question as well, you just don't have an answer, that's why you are silent.
It's possible that I've posted this in the wrong section of XDA, or I posted it on entirely the wrong forum, I shouldn't have posted this kind of question on XDA in the first place, but somewhere else?
I'm asking this, because when the $50 Blu phone with the Amazon partnership came out in the US, everyone was all over about it, which was in essence, a $100 phone without subsidies, for the rest of the world.
At least, please, a living creature say either "I would like (to know) this, too," or "no way, who wants a cheap crap phone?" I'm just feeling a little weird talking with myself here all alone, on this, otherwise, premiere Android forum.
