Hi,
I'm looking to buy either Xiaomi mi 4i or Meizu M1 Note. Hardware-wise they both are great but I don't like the customized android os of both.
If I'm going to buy any of them I'll replace the os with cyanogenmod, but cm version is not available for both of them. So, I'll come to the main question.
Which would be easy, porting cm for Mi-4i or porting cm to Meizu M1 Note. (Considering CM port is available for few other Mi devices, I could fork their repo make CM port for Mi-4i)
NOTE: I've no background information about custom ROMs. So, also include a link to basics of development with CM.
But, the CM Wiki - How_To_Port_CyanogenMod_Android_To_Your_Own_Device portrays the process as if porting is simple. It just mentions a few commands as if I were administrating a linux distro (in which I'm good). Or does it require actual coding/scripting (which I'm still learning)?
Hi, thank you for using XDA assist. The best place to get help and discuss new phones is here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1620179

I also had questions regarding porting. Would that thread cover that?
I've tried porting roms and it's definitely not as easy as the guides say it is. You can Google porting rom xda and find a lot of guides that can be useful.

It happened to me too
Don't worry there's a solution. You might have used mi4i toolkit v3 for rooting.
But when I tried the updated toolkit that is V4 from MIUI forums.

exchange support is quite incomplete in cm 12.1
that should get rectified in near future by cm team itself
Patch Sensors
Flash Patch-sensors.zip with TWRP
Then, factory reset needed.
after the first boot, change the lockscreen into a pattern mode to cope with SoD
Find bug : Animation off charging

Error
I am trying to flash the cm12 build using TWRP however I am getting an error message - "error executing updater binary in zip" This package is for device: ferrari; this device is TCL_M3G
However this a Mi4i. What could be the problem? Has the device name changed over updates?
Please help.

Hi everyone,
After I received my BV9800 Pro I noticed that this smatphone's users are ALIVE on different forums and I am not feeling alone on the Earth with this smartphone ? so we already have a good root solution with Magisk, now we need working TWRP. With TWRP this beast will be even more awesome!
TWRP DEVELOPERS - WE (ALL BV9800Pro USRRS) ASK YOU TO MAKE TWRP AVAILABLE FOR US! CAN YOU DO IT GUYS?
As I have seen somewhere, You had TWRP for all MediaTek devices, unfortunatelly I didn't made it work (I think because of lack of knowledge I have).
If there is anyone who knows how to make it work - we welcome You ?

Ok, I will try to get other users on this thread.
Personally me too- i will donate too
Ok, So funny thing first...
So I have requested for TWRP on xda-developers.com, expected to get some voluntary help from guys, but have received a request to donate the amount of money required for developer to purchase this phone, so they could develope TWRP for it. And I thought... It's about 400€+, well You know (ehem...)....
Then I found this awesome service at Hovatek with customer support. They replied promptly and sent me working TWRP within a day or two for free, no donations required. THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY THE BEST I HAVE EVER FOUND! If I will find myself in situation anytime in future - they are the first I will go with!!
Ok, so now, ladies and gentlemen, I share the link for You to TWRP by Hovatek: https://forum.hovatek.com/thread-32580-post-188379.html
P.S., PLEASE READ THIS SHORT THREAD IN THE LINK FULLY, TO AVOID ASKING WHAT I ALREADY ASKED THERE.
Oh, by the way, one user reported this works on BV9800 as well.
GOOD LUCK!
Who are those Hovatek from Nigeria though? I wouldn't trust anybody, without getting the source code as well.
If they are legit and all, shouldn't they push the source code to TWRP repo as well?
Hello guys
Please forgive my poor English !
I have a Redmi Note PRO 9
Everything was good until it got stuck on MIUI screen.
Sometimes I can get the FASTBOOT screen but nothing else those 2 possibilities
I erased everything (wipe data out) but I am still on that damn** MIUI SCREEN, every time.
I understood reading the topics that I should reinstall the ROM...
First problem : find the good one. I looked for it, and read a lot of topics, but impossible to find it.
Can I get some help to make my phone great again ??
Request phone's Stock ROM from OEM if you are unsure what to use.

Either you pretend to be dumb or you don't want to look for a suitable ROM. In a minute I was able to find the ROM for your device.
You can run to fastboot mode so check the product model of your redmi note 9 pro

Hi! Has anyone tried to flash a GSI rom on Xiaomi 13? If yes how does it work?
Thanks in advance
Currently there is no GSI working on this model AFAIK. Wait for device specific ports instead.

EDIT: This is not true. See the replies below.

Nope, I don't install gsi rom on my devices.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1/2 ARM64(V9) - X86.
GSI on Xiaomi 12 Pro
after testing several Treble GSis, I finally found CherishOS. Most of them are not booting, or other issues (no mobile data, only calling, settings are crashing,....). Save your time and choose CherishOS. How I flashed it: 1. clean flash...

As written above, do research on devices with the same soc, One plus, Samsung etc.
There are surely some with little or no bug.

I am using Project elixir for almost 2 weeks now. So far so good.
I suggest you dont flash it but instead usi it via DSU. Autobrightness is not working, fingerprint too. There are gcam ports wich are also compatible with our device. Battery life is better than miui. Even adding a card to google wallet works fine, until a reboot.

You shouldve just used google to understand better. But basically its a subsystem method wich was implemented to allow a/b partition devices to be able to run gsis' for testing purposes, without the need of flashing and deleting the original os. Think of it as dualboot for android. The only thing is that if you're using it via dev settings, you dont have the choice of selecting what to boot, but your device will directly download google's official gsi (wich is not very functional and its ugly).
Thats why you just need to download the DSU Sideloader app from PlayStore. The app will do everything with a gsi of your choice if you follow the instructions.
The only thing wich is mandatory is that the BL of your device must be unlocked in order to use dsu.
There are videos on YT showing this. If you want to try the gsi I mentioned, download it from their website.

No problem, I dont mind explaining, but there are pretty detailed articles, wich may enlighten you better than I can do it. Anyways, if/when you try it you'll really understand how much MIUI is ruining the experience of that pretty device. I was thinking about selling it 3 days after i got it, only because of that deprecated UI with stupid restrictions. I'm really glad i searched and tried stuff. Good luck!
