Super weird issue with my Note 5 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note5

Hey guys I have a super weird issue. The last couple of days my Note 5 has been giving me a notification stating "Activation Incomplete". I called Verizon and they said it could be a fault SIM card so I replaced it and it happened again. It usually goes away after a reboot but I shouldn't have to be rebooting the phone all the time because of this notification. Any one else get a similar problem?
Also, I have a weird issue now in which my Action Memo app won't actually open up a memo when I use the S-Pen Air Command. In the air command window all of the other functions work but not Action memo. Once again, a restart sometimes fixes it. Then, I noticed that the S-Pen button to open up air command sometimes doesn't work and won't open the Air Command window. I have no idea how these issues emerged. It just started a few days ago.
Any/all advice and suggestions help. Thanks guys!

When I have unexplainable issues like these, I just do a factory reset. It might be as simple as a malware carrying app.

Yeah I was thinking of doing that, but a factory reset is so annoying as I need to re-download and set up my phone once again.

With issues like that I also suggest what Luis has mentions and do a reset. Only thing to try before that is a reset all settings just incase you don't have to factory it.

True. I finally set up Google photos and used contacts optimizer to make sure all contacts were in Google. If my phone breaks etc I know all my stuff is a sign in away.

Yeah I have all my photos synced up with Google Photos as well as much contacts. I just did a reset of the settings and that didn't fix the issue so I just completed a factory data reset and downloading my apps again. Hopefully this will work.

I'm on my second Samsung Note 5 from Verizon in 10 days and can report that both devices have the "Activation Incomplete" message pop up at least once a day. It does not interrupt service (I can send/receive calls, SMS, and use VZW data), but it is very annoying. On the first device, I was given a new SIM card along with performing two factory resets. Since the issue was still there, I took the phone back to the store and exchanged it for another Note 5. The very next morning I had the same "Activation Incomplete" notice. I'm beginning to think this is a firmware issue from Samsung and has nothing to do with Verizon.

Since this is the second one doing it I would try to have tech support refresh everything on your line itself for the network. Seems odd an activation issue would be a built in issue. Can confirm that I have not seen this since it came out so I'm guessing.

Yeah. I am having the exact same issue. This is my second Note 5 device that's displaying the issue. Not sure what could be causing it. I spoke to both Verizon and Samsung and they both have no idea what could be happening. Although it doesn't affect functionality of the device, it's so friggin annoying.

I spent another 2 hours in a Verizon chat. The tech said he reset everything on the line but the problem still shows up. Alas, he did say after speaking to his supervisor that this is a known issue affecting some Note 5 and S6 devices. I have a service ticket open for this issue and have been promised a response in the next 24 hours.

It sounds selfish but I'm glad I'm not the only one that is experiencing this problem. At least we made an effort to notify Verizon. I've been speaking to them everyday for the past week, regarding this issue, as well as Samsung. It's pretty bogus that Samsung wants to you send the phone in and won't give you a replacement phone at all. Wtf?

I checked on the ticket with Verizon and the official response is this:
"SP Engineer is investigating this issue. Software updated on the site. Sites located in customer area are taking traffic and alarm free. No recent changes/No network issues /No alarms have been found"
The tech that I chatted with requested that I boot the phone into safe mode and leave it there for an unspecified period to see if the alert comes back. Unfortunately, this is not an option for me due to the types of third party apps that I use (primarily two-step authenticator apps). It was then recommended that I use the Software Repair Assistant and try to blow out my phone again.
But it was at the end of the chat that it dawned on me that the message also disappears. If I get the "Activation Incomplete" notice on my phone but do not power cycle the device, then the message will disappear after 8-12 hours. I remember this being the case when I took my first device in to replace the SIM card - I wanted to show the VZW rep the message, but 5 minutes before I arrived at the store the message mysteriously vanished.
@Iskateforfree, can you possibly confirm this to be the case with your device?

Hm, that's interesting. I have booted into Safe Mode before and haven't received the notification, but then again, the notification pops up randomly and sometimes I won't see it for a few days and then it'll show up. With regards to the Software Repair Assistant, I did that process with my first Note 5 device and it did not remedy the issue so I'd rather not try it again and have to re-setup the device for no reason. To be honest, I haven't left the notification there for 8-12 hours. I'd get so annoyed with seeing it that I'd just restart the phone. Next time is appears, I'll leave the notification up and monitor it throughout the day. It's definitely some sort of firmware issue because other people are having this issue and it appears this issue has persisted for both of us, even after having a replacement unit.

I can confirm that the "activation incomplete" notification is gone after letting it sit around for a few hours without a reboot of the device. It went away by itself. Hopefully, it doesn't come back.

Goes away after enabling data
I've had the 64gb Note 5 for 3 days. This message has shown up at least 4 times. My wife has the 32gb model, never has had this message. I've found that if I restart the phone and it shows up, if I re-enable data, the notification goes away.
I have no clue has to why it's doing this with mine and not hers.

Apparently, it seems like this is an ongoing issue. It's gotta be something with the firmware from Samsung and a compatability issue with Verizon. It's so annoying.

Hey guys, I got off the phone with Verizon and they believe that this could be related to a storage issue. I currently only have 800MB left of storage on my 32GB device. I don't know how storage could affect activation but can you guys let me know how much storage you have on your devices? Also, it would be a good idea to continue to call Verizon about this issue to raise some red flags.

Factory Reset VS Out of the box (Differences)

I was going to exchange my phone for a new one before my 30 days is up which is tomorrow, so I did a factory reset. They ended up not letting me because they knew about the GPS problem and said there is a fix coming. I also had my email disappear and wanted to just get a fresh device before I am stuck for 2 years.
So I wanted to see if anyone else who has done a factory reset has noticed the same or differences from before they reset it.
1. Data icon (3G,E) still shows while WiFi is connected. Before the data icon wouldn't show.
2. Facebook pictures sync works much better and actually sync's pictures. Also its doesn't take 20 clicks to select the contacts to DL.
3. Phone overall doesn't seem laggy as much and much more responsive.
4. When I open messages the first time it keeps asking if I want to set a limit, which I have to say no every time. Very annoying, not sure why it keeps asking,
Note: I haven't rooted this time (I was before) yet and I have less apps installed. I haven't installed the official FB app in case it was conflicting, but I doubt it.
I will add more if I notice anything else. Today is the 3rd day since the reset.
Curious to see what replies you receive. And you're saying AT&T wouldn't return it even though there is a "known-issue" with the phone?

Yea, thats BS. if the return policy is 30 days you should be able to return it. And who gives a **** if there is a fix on the way. It doesnt work right now, and you signed a 2-year agreement for a phone to have a working GPS unit which doesnt; breech of contract.

They wouldn't let me exchange it, I probably could of returned it, but not sure if I can deal with going back to the Fuze with WinMo. At least I turned the Fuze into a portable Garmin GPS with internet calling via WiFi.
(psst. just tell them it shuts down randomly for no apparent reason.)
I exchanged mine for this (real) reason. It was ridiculous. My Captivate continued to shut down at least 2-3 times a day. I even contacted Samsung about this issue and they said to just exchange it.
I did a Factory reset and hoped that it would fix the problem. Three hours after doing so, it shut down on me again. I have had it. I just exchanged it.
Sorry I can't really help you with the different between stock and a factory reset device since I didn't really take notice of it. Although, after the reset, I went to Settings - About Phone - System Tutorial and clicked Begin. Nothing happened. Yesterday, with my new device after the exchange, the Begin button took me to the Tutorial.
I had 3G connectivitiy problems before, and after doing the odin restore those problems are gone. It may have been poor network conditions for a couple days, but either way, my problem no longer exists.

[Q] Hd7 randomly calling my most contacts

At 6:09am [EST] this morning (5/16), I received a call from a colleague of mine who indicated that my phone had called him 4 times at different intervals (12:26am,2:09am, 5:28am, 5:29am). When I saw his incoming call, I was like why's he calling me this early in the morning? I told him that I didn't call him and that I was still sleeping. Has anyone experienced this with their windows phone?
I did looked on my phone after getting off the phone with Marcelo at 6:09am and I noticed that my phone also called someone else [Jillian K] at 1:04am.
The last time I called [Jillian K.] was 5/15 - 3:06pm and after that, I made 3 more calls to 2 other people yesterday. However, I have not called Marcelo at all in some time.Other than Marcelo being among the 10 recipients that I texted regarding a game schedule early yesterday [5/15] around 11am.
Has anyone experience this? Thanks for your input.
I have attached a picture of the outgoing calls (w/the 1 incoming call from Marcelo)
Maybe you are sleepwalking
OT: no never had that
Yeah, I only know of drunk people that call at all hours of the night.
However, unrelated, I've had a similar problem, where my HD7 is screen locked in my pocket, I'll receive and miss a call, which unlocks the screen, and then the phone goes crasy bumping against my leg. Last time I had 3 outgoing calls before I heard the phone about to leave a voice mail.
Worst part was I had the phone on the coffee table the whole night.. unless there's a ghost in my apartment. I did noticed few things today -- I had IE tabs on the phone (3-4) that I didn't open. Later this noon, I received an email from Bank of Ameri. that someone tried to access my account online and was unsuccessful. Did logged in to check and to change my pwd.
The last app I bought was gMsg and I used it briefly to message my soccer group about game time. so may be the app is misbehaving?
I'll observe again tonite..
Have you developer unlocked your phone? What OS Version are you running? Have you ever flashed a ROM? Edit: On a related note, are you the first owner?
Figure it out?
which web sites were opened?

weird. Your proximity sensor should have prevented this.

Someone been using your phone: there's no doubt left in my mind.
I posted this thread 5/16 and since then several things have happened. For those asking about version, unlocked n etc. I'll answer all in one swoop.
First my Hd7 is dev unlocked but only apps like walkman7, tvshow7, wifi shorcuts, and etc. Haven't even used those in a while.
software version: nodo (as of today - decided to wait for final Mango)
I've no kids or wifey. Girlfriend was away on company business that week unless she suddenly acquired supernatural powers to control my phone from where she was.
Since i reported this, i've sent my phone in for volume button wiggling issue, so my device has been software reset (factory). Haven't seen it since. Also, at the time when I reported this, at least for 2 months, my phone just randomly reboot itself. I haven't had that happen since getting my phone back from HTC for the volume button fix and re-config of my phone from factory reset.
All I know is a factory reset seem to have fixed it for me. Keep in mind that after the fact. reset, I still went back to dev unlock my phone again and it has been great since. YMMV.

Are you having problems with phone not ringing?

I am having my phone NOT RING, often. I get notifications of missed call.
I'm not sure if it is my carrier and weak signal, or if it is a problem with the phone.
How's it going for you?
Sorry to revive such an old thread, but only just recently I've been told that my phone just goes to voicemail when someone calls me. It seems like just a random occurence and after multiple attempts, the call finally goes through. Any thoughts? On a side note, my ex has a honor 5x and has similar issues too

JFYI...I am still having the problem. I'm about to consider getting rid of the Mate 9. I'd hate to, as I love the phone.
I find it interesting that there are not others experiencing the problem.
I am tempted to wipe everything and start fresh...but I have so much set up, I hate to go through all that, and then have it just be a phone problem anyway.
Quite frustrating.

I haven't owned the Mate 9 long. but I don't have any call issues at all. Maybe check with your carrier first. Replacement SIM should always be step 1...Then if it continues. Wipe....My wife and I both had Note 4's (Hers is still kickin)...We would have that happen all the time. Its normally a carrier/signal issue.
If you receive a call with the screen on, does it show the incoming call? Make sure do not disturb is not on some weird timer or something.

I must admit that AT&T in my area pretty much sucks.
My wife still has her Note 4, and never has that problem. So, that leaves me thinking it is not carrier related.
My wife thinks it's because of all the apps I have on it.
I think I will try a new SIM, then a reload.
Oh another interesting note: most of the time I get missed call notifications, and it shows the number in the missed call log.
I'm in france , my phone is not ringing sometimes... Will reset the phone and see if problem's still here.
Our phones had the same problem ( me: Note 3, wife Samsung S4 then S5). We even upgraded one of the phones, hoping the extra LTEbands will solve the problem. It turned out to be the carrier. I now bought the Mate 9 outright, with dual SIM and on a different carrier. No calls lost yet, fingers crossed.
I finally have come to the realization that lui Do Not Disturb is malfunctioning.
I have it in a timer of:
- Turn on at 10:00pm
- Turn off at 7:00am next morning
But it is not turning off.
I'm going to post a thread about this.

Phone ceased working, causes Pixel to Reboot

As of Saturday, my Pixel refuses to make or take phone calls. It seems to work flawlessly in all other regards.
If I get a phone call it takes a long time to acknowledge that I've selected to answer the call. I can then neither hear the other person, nor can they hear me (no line noise, complete silence). If I choose to hang up, the Phone app ceases to work, and within a few minutes the whole phone reboots. Making call doesn't even get that far, as as soon as I initiate the call the phone app ceases, and again, within a few minutes the phone reboots.
I chatted with Google Pixel Help twice yesterday. They checked a bunch of things with me, then suggested a factory reset when those didn't work. Yesterday, the issue only seemed to occur after the phone had sat idle from a reboot for a while. So initially after the factory reset things were working. When I got home, however, the problem persisted, and was now occurring every single time the Phone app was used. It's now 100% reproducible:
https://youtu.be/5YSJpLVBR1A
https://youtu.be/sENelMnE4eI
I've tried using 3rd party dialers, but they all seem to throw over to the stock phone app as soon as the call is made. I have no idea what happened.
Google hasn't been helpful, as their support person said I'm out of warranty (purchased in late-Oct. 2016), and thus have to deal with Telus. I have I feeling I know how that's going to go (ie: not well).
Anyone else ever experienced anything like this?
Happend to me too.
I just got an email back from the Google Store Support manager. She just reiterated that the phone is out of warranty and suggested that I visit UBreakIFix to see about getting it repaired.
Overall, I'm quite unimpressed with Google's support on this. If I have to replace the phone, I'm seriously going to consider something other than Google.

Well I mean if the phone is out of warranty they are following the same guidelines literally any other manufacturer would. Their response is kind of a non-problem and your reaction is kinda poor. Anyways for now try rolling back to the factory image before current and then updating back to current, might do something.
Edit: preferably keeping the -w intact but you can try dirty flashing it first

Question Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus_Please help with my phone issues

Since the day after I traded in my Galaxy A50 to upgrade to my brand new out of the box Galaxy S21 Plus, I've been dealing with multiple issues beginning with inability to connect to Wi-Fi public Hotspot which I use for everything in my place for past nine years and no check issues even if I have several devices connected. the s21+ wouldn't even see the xfinitywifi broadcast like my other devices do, then it would see it and attempt connection only to get authentication errors. everyone I've ever talked to about wifi issues are robots that all say reboot your modem. I DON'T HAVE A MODEM because I use public Hotspot. sorry for yelling, my blood pressure rises thinking about this. anyway tech says factory data reset (I knew better), but I did it anyway, then it gets worse, lost contacts, important apps from my employer, important vm's, because my ringer refused to operate even, volume was erratically adjusting itself hi low hi low anytime I attempt blue tooth connection, then my messaging app would race my pandora app upon blue tooth connecting as well I would win that by fighting both apps but still my messaging app would stay on simultaneously with pandora. my s21+ I got brand new unopened $1k on payment plan. Verizon said too late for warranty is only good for 14 days after purchase. keep telling these people my issues began on day one and on day three I finally had time to call support the first time. the store I bought it from (go wireless), tried very hard to help fix it but they only knew what settings to check but they were all correctly set. magically they were able to get my ringer to work and called me a couple times while I was there to test. after I get home, my ringer magically would not work once again. since Verizon was trying to rip me off by telling me they can only replace the s21+ under their 14 day warranty with a certified pre-owned s21+ but at that time, it was beyond the 14 day warranty period. I so I got high blood pressure and said NOPE I will be receiving a brand new phone because that's what I am paying for, I did not purchase a pre-owned anything, so let me talk to whoever is in charge of making that happen. team leader put me on hold until his management went home for the day, he checked couple times to see if I was still holding (better believe I was), last time he asked I told him I'm calling Samsung direct then he tried arguing with me as I hung up. Samsung warranty is good for up to one year as is typical for anything aside from landscaping. well they want me to send my phone away with me paying postage and having no other phone, but they will fix it when it arrives in Texas?? why can I not just get a replacement from the store I purchased it from?? Samsung answer because it's most likely a software issue, if it is then it has to go to Google because they are the one's who developed the software. WTF can I do?? anybody have any clue how to fix this?? I'm thinking a 20lb. sledge, torch maybe, brick and the river?? but then I'm out $1k for a phone that never worked right out of the box.
It does sound like software but doing a reset didn't fix it which is odd?
My suggestion would be to download the correct firmware from sammobile and flash it to your phone with Odin.
At the very least you will be ruling out software if there is still issues.

I agree. Try reinstall the OS back onto your device from scratch and see if that works. Or if it is still within the 14 day warranty, take it back to the store for a replacement unit.

you do have a modem in your phone. and its likely the culprit. do yourself the favor and get samfirm or frija, theyre firmware downloaders, and enter the info the tool needs to D/L your firmware and flash it on the phone with Odin just as stated above. There are 5 files that come inside the zip of firmware you end up with once frija has finished. the 2 files to pay the most attention to are CSC and HOME_CSC. CSC will factory reset it, and HOME_CSC will not, otherwise theyre the same thing

Thank you for your replies, I was able to take it back to the store for a complete exchange after a lot of trouble.
