Yes, the remedy is: return it and get a different one because your chip is garbage. My phone stays cool.

No sadly not at the minute. The htc m9 is having the same issue but qualcomm have reportedly solved the issue which hopfully should be sorted in a software fix. I guess we just need to leep our fingers crossed for a software fix soon

Took my flex back because it was having issues with lag overheating and the screen died then came back on and wouldn't charge and battery died fast. The new phone is so fast it's hard to believe it's the same phone. It don't overheat and it last longer on battery. There's a bad batch of devices that are bad if i was you i would take it back . im glad i did because it's a night and day difference no lie i thought it was the software like people was saying it's not .

Just ordered mine and it would be shipped next week.

Did the 5.1.1 fix the thermal throttling and overheating?

with 5.1.1 the 810 don't go beyond 1.5GHz and still throttle but overheating is moderate, less hot than a Nexus 4 that have a S4 Pro but really hotter than a Honor 6 that have a HiSilicon Kirin SoC.

How much did killing the clock speed hurt performance though or was the performance worse with the higher clock and thermal issues?
Either I'd be little annoyed if i paid for a device with a certain chip and clock speed and an update reduced it.
They should be giving partial refunds or something along that line, you are not getting what you paid for.

There is already some discount on M9 and Flex2, I paid 400€, the price of a mid-range device and with reduced speed it perform like a good mid-range device with high-end finish.
You may have noticed that the rumored snapdragon 820 may have core named Kryo (like Cryo, icy cold in greek).

I disagree even with throttling gflex 2 is still a monster.Still high end.faster than m9. S6 is faster though. In price i agree . but even g4 s price is going down very fast.
The first leaked benchmarks of 820 show a very good single core performance and in multicore a little bit over exynos (s6).

That's why I'm considering the flex 2, I can get it for less then $500CAN. The only catch is its the H959 with only 2g ram.

My G Flex 2 ls996 still hits 2ghz... So not sure why that was posted. Also I have antutu benchmarks of 58000, which isn't bad. Lag has been cut down quite a bit. Every now an then there is a hiccup, but its seldom and only happens for about a second . Also haven noticed any heat issues either

This sucks if it really is so that no 2ghz after updating 5.1.1. Same if Ferrari only gives you 300hp from 600hp engine. This phone was not so good buy startin to realize it now. I downgrade it today but still 1,5ghz kernel is april dated. test antutu and serious drop, with 5.1.1 was 54000 and with 5.0.1 43500, not good.

I get about 53 000, almost 54. Have you frozen bloatware apps yet? And have you made the thermal configurations yet?

I have frozen those apps but no thermal conf. I just use trickster mod and put row on... There was so many things better with 5.1.1 so hopefully we manage to get at least root for 5.1.1. Maybe I keep using this from now on, until and hopefully something happens. Im not satisfied my decision to buy this phone and now nexus 6 32gb 499e and with that phone we have root, unlocked bootloader, custom recovery, you name it. 6" display size maybe a bit too large to carry but nexus is nexus...

If you miss the Nexus series but don't want the huge screen, deal with the Flex 2 until October (3 months) of this year and the new Nexus 5 will be out, that's what I'm doing. My old Nexus 5 runs much smoother and has zero issues. Wish I hadn't given it to my daughter.

For sure. I am also disappointed with taking this phone and can't afford a new one. The design is great, I love the curve, but the one I have now is the third one I've gotten as I handed in 2 others already that gave issues. I think LG majorly screwed up on this phone and does not want to admit it. My phone works pretty well now, and it is a definite improvement on my S4 which I had previously, though. I wouldn't mind the Nexus 6 though, or the Xiaomei Note Pro (though the development support on this one would probably zero). If I can get some cash and maybe sell this phone, I can get the Nexus 6. I'm not sure I'd be able to, unfortunately, but we'll see.

Hey everyonge and a happy new year! I'm looking for an upgrade for my good old RAZRi and the G Flex 2 is available for a really good price in Germany where I live.
Is the overheating still an issue with the G Flex 2? Is it a problem on both official and custom ROMs?

Moto g better than idol 3?

So I am surprised no has caught this yet. But the 2015 with far lesser hardware than that of the idol 3 is getting very high praises. The one main thing that is really standing out to me is the performance reviews. The snapdragon 400 with 1gb of ram and just how smooth this phone runs. I would think this would be a major jab at Alcatel on how unoptimized their software on the idol 3 is. I think this is also a testament that our phone is very capable of a butter smooth experience without any lag or stutters what's so ever if this can be done on the moto g.

So for $50 less I give up 1/2 the megapixels on the front and rear camera's...1/2 the internal storage, 1/3rd the screen resolution (assuming going from 1080p to 720p is only 1/3rd) drop Lollipop back down to Kitkat (based on http://www.bestbuy.com/site/motorol...-u-s-version-black/9055007.p?id=1219387046337) and I'm sure there's more....no thanks...the time of the idol 3 is NOW. It's been rooted..has TWRP....has xposed framework working and source has just been released. Or were you trying to compare the idol 3 4.7? You didn't specify.

Ok..here's a good side by side from phonedog...with the exception of battery life the idol 3 seemed to be the winner but maybe you'll lean the other way. I know I'm not giving up my dual speakers, 1080p screen and reversible feature which works really well in the car to charge it while sitting in a poor man's dock (the cup holder). Sounds like you'd have to bump up to the 2gb/16gb model for the closest match and that's gonna be $220 vs $200 (currently the idol is priced at $250 but it was when I purchased it as well and they put it on sale for 1 day in July so I was able to submit a price protection claim with my credit card bringing it down to $200...I'm sure similar specials will pop up since the preorder price was also $199)

It's very confusing when they pull all this 2nd gen, 3rd gen or Nexus 5 2015 vs the old Nexus 5 stuff because you are never sure which one someone is talking about..I didn't even know thr 3rd gen moto g was out.

Ya. I should have articulated my point better. And my point was this. The 3rd gen moto (with far inferior) hardware than the idol is getting praises left and right and many are voting it asbthe best budget phone for the money. And one of the main points they bring up is just how fluid and snappy the new moto g is with less ram and smaller processor than that of the idol 3. So with that logic the idol 3 should be outperforming the moto g with responsiveness and snappyness and zero lag. But its not. I was hoping that Alcatel might take note of the new kid in the block. Get concerned about potential loss sales to the moto g and optimize the idol 3 to be a great performer with zero lag the way it should be.

Comparing apples to apples. The Idol 3 4.7 is better than the Moto G 2015. They both have snapdragon 410 but the G just having a higher clock speed at 1.4 vs 1.2. I returned my Moto G when I got the Idol 3 4.7. It's just a better phone for me. As far as lag, I had the Idol 5.5 when it first came out before some of the updates and I remember there was some lag especially when clearing all recent apps. The Idol 3 4.7 does not have that lag that I experienced with the bigger Idol. The 410 is a fantastic processor especially for pushing out only 720p. More YouTube reviewers should do a comparison between the Idol 4.7 and the Moto G and not the Idol 5.5. Closer in specs and price point.

You pretty much validated my point though on how the beefier heavier specd idol 3 5.5 should run flawless and as smooth as butter when lesser hardware clearly can.

Well one good point is the 5.0.x series of lollipop is KNOWN to be laggy...that was one of the main improvements to 5.1...with the source released we can perhaps look at Cyanogenmod in our future and eliminate alot of the lag we are dealing with now along with some optimized kernels. I think after some custom rom's come out you'll end up much happier with the idol 3 overall.

Yup the 5.0 builds are very buggy and laggy but its interesting that the 4.7 inch idol with lower processor still runs smoother. I don't think we as consumers should have to root and go through all of those hoops just to have a well performing device based on the hardware running it. And from owning the oneplus one and running cm as my daily driver for quite sometime I would personally never run it again. Not only do I not support Steve and his initiatives and his company but often times cm introudced more bug than it solved issues. So that's a no go for me. I am simply asking Alcatel to optimize their flagship device the way it should be. But who knows maybe it will happen when we get the 5.1.1 update.
Right now I swap between my zenfone 2, idol 3 and oneplus one. The only thing keeping me from using my idol 3 as my daily.driver is the lag. And it's very noticeable when jumping between phones.

I had decided to wait for the moto G 3rd gen before upgrading from the 2nd gen however...
Amazon day sale...
That was literally an insane price. Too good to pass off and I went for the upgrade.
Comparing it to the 3rd gen.. I'm not at all regretting getting the Alcatel. Gorilla Glass alternative is good, battery life is significantly better than the moto G, display resolution is a nice plus.
Water proofing just isn't a feature that makes or breaks my decision.

I agree with the point about consumers shouldn't need to depend on rooting, custom kernels and ROMS. Even if I indulge in all of the above. If that's what it takes to make a phone usable, then this phone and manufacturer will fade back into oblivion. And I also haven't found custom ROMs to be a panacea. For all the talk about being "buttery smooth," "rock solid" and such, it isn't always that way. I've had some prominent ROMs that plainly gave me more problems than stock Android. But I like to experiment and I like the customization options that the ROMs provide. And I really like being rid of all the Google bloat.
I waited awhile with my Nexus 4 before upgrading to Lollipop because I wanted to keep running Xposed and it wasn't available on Lollipop for awhile. But after I did, I almost reverted because of the poor performance with 5.0x. So it's disappointing to have to be running 5.02 on the Idol 3 on the eve of the release of Android M.
I'm not holding my breath waiting for many ROMs, kernels and such on this phone. Is there a big enough community who's going to use them that people will bother to build them? I hope the answer is yes, but I'm not so sure.
All that said, I like this phone more than I thought I would. I'm having occasional laggy and erratic performance, but most of the time, it's fine, a bit better than I might have expected. And I love the light weight and the display. The current crop of flagships tend to be 30 grams heavier, a very noticeable difference. And the colors look better to me on this phone than they do on some of the pricier ones with whites that aren't white or over-saturation. Some of that's adjustable with custom kernels, but not all of it. The Nexus 6 I use sometimes, for all its many strengths, is guilty of both color problems and being uncomfortably heavy by comparison.

Ya I would have to agree with you an all of the points you highlighted. This is a fantastic device on so many levels. Just wish the damn thing didn't lag. The biggest lag issue I had was with typing. But installing the stick Google keyboard from the play store seems to have really improved the typing experience over the stock aosp keyboard that comes with the phone.

When you guys get a sec check the performance review of the mi4 running the exact same chipset. Notice how it scores significantly hire in benchmarks then our phone and the ui does not lag or stutter what's so ever.

Thought you might be interested to know the Moto G's camera has been ported over to the Idol 3 and runs just fine....I posted a thread in the Idol3 apps and games section with some details. The camera is very VERY nice.

A lot of these people are comparing the lowest tier Moto G to whatever else that is available. On Alcatel's side, that would mean that you would compare the 4.7 inch model to the Moto G - and the only thing on the specs side on the Alcatel model is NFC - otherwise they are essentially the same phone - and the Moto G is waterproof - runs a later version of Android - and is from Motorola . So it does make for a compelling choice. When you compare the $220 model to the $250 Alcatel model, then the spec differences are wider. But for $180 , the Moto G is not a bad phone. If I did not have the option to buy the 5.5 inch for $200 , and the Moto G 2015 would have been around, I do not think I would have spent $180 to go with the Alcatel.

The Mi4i runs the same chipset and Geekyranjit says it is a laggy POS after update, before update it was overheating POS. There is something fundamentally wrong with the 615 chipset same as the 810. it just wasn't a good year to buy Qualcomm.

Actually... none of the released Zen2 come with SD615.

I think about buying a Oneplus One and I have a few questions about it.

Hi, Black friday deals have started popping up in my country and I found a pretty good deal on the Oneplus one so I thought i'd buy one, but I have a few questions before I do:
1. I mostly do browsing, whatsapp and some gaming on my phone so I wanted to know if the experience on the oneplus One is buttery smooth in the things I listed. I currently have an Iphone 4s and I can't stand the little stutters, long loadings before opening apps and a lot of lags in internet browsing and in Whatsapp. My main reason for buying a new phone is a better general experience, so its really important for me that the OPO will be smooth.
I just saw reviews on the new Oneplus X which has the same processor as the oneplus One, and some of the reviews said that the Snapdragon 801 is really showing its age, so it got me a bit worried.
2. I saw that some people had issues with the touch on the Oneplus One. Are those issues resolved? And If not, should I worry about it?
3. For the people who play Hearthstone, does this phone handle Hearthstone well? I know that even phones with good processors have some troubles with Hearthstone so I want to know if the Oneplus one handles it well.

I got mine in May this year and so far it has been running smoothly. Gaming and everyday tasks like the ones you listed posed no problems. The touchscreen issues have also been fixed over the last months. For the best experience you should try out some custom roms.

Thank you, happy to hear its been working smoothly for you. I heard there's a really good custom rom called Sultan CM12, but honestly im afraid to get into roms and stuff like that because I almost bricked my nexus 4 messing with roms, and I don't really wanna take risks with this one.

There are plenty of guides and tutorials online which explain step by step how to flash custom roms /recoveries. Even with the stock pre-installed CM you will surely get a great user experience

The iPhone 4S is ancient and massively slower than pretty much any new phone on the market for several years now. Get hold of an iPhone 5/5S and you see the huge difference.
As for Snapdragon 801 "showing its age", that's still a pretty much wrong statement. Snapdragon 801 performs on about the same level with the Intel Atom processors seen in the mid-range Asus Zenfone 2, while delivering massively better battery life. The 801 is also better than Qualcomm's current 64-bit midrange Snapdragon 615. Tests show that Qualcomm's top of the line Snapdragon 808 and 810 do beat the 801 in a number of tests anywhere from a non-significant factor up to a factor of two. But those new 64-bit SoCs also have issues with heat and battery life, and so the phones using those often throttle the performance after a minute or two to prevent overheating.
In my experience, the Oneplus One is an excellent and very responsive phone. In USA, it's still the best $300 phone for those who don't demand the compatibility with the LTE's band 12. Oneplus X should have been a fine phone too considering the price of only $250, but Oneplus has really messed up the usability of LTE on the American version.

well, the cons compared to mi4c: 1. 5.0 lollipop vs 5.1 llp on mi4c 2. many people still prefer 5" devices and the mi4c is a lot smaller and lighter 3. mi4c supports proper fast charging with variable voltage 4. mi4c screen has superior contrast (1700:1 vs 950:1 on the redmi note 3 pro). pros compared to mi4c: 1. more screen real estate 2. better build quality, more of a looker, too 3. fingerprint sensor 4. better battery backup, although it should charge real slow 5. s650 is more or less on the same level of performance with the s808 (maybe a 5% difference in favor of the 650) 6. i still don't know about the camera, mi4c has a 1/3" 13mp, wide angle, f/2.0 sony imx258 sensor with phase detection af vs redmi note 3 pro with a 16mp f/2.0 pdaf, but we still don't know if it's a. a samsung isocell s5k2pxx 1/2.6" sensor (like the one on the s5) b. a sony imx234 1/2.6" (g4 etc) c. a sony imx298 1/2.8" (mate 8 etc) so it should perform either equally or better compared to mi4c 7. it's going to be cheaper than the mi4c !

i would buy the one with unlocked bootloader....

Seems like a nice phone, but the SoC is a littel outdated if you ask me, and the size of the phone is too big...
But for the price, it seems like a very good buy!

Sorry, I read it as SD 615.
It still is a good phone, even better now . No doubt. The screen is just too big for me.

I hate it. The SoC is better (BIG cluster uses A72 instead of A57), the GPU is better (proven by higher AnTuTu score), the rear camera resolution is bigger, the battery is bigger, the screen is bigger, full metal unibody, yet cheaper price. Damn you, xiaomi...

yep, i think i would have regretted getting the 6P (which i intended to buy at first) when the mate 8´s specs became public
awesome phone and not looking back!
only 3 things to consider:
-can you deal with the size? true, its got a nice screen-to-body ratio with tiny bezels, but its still a big phone!
- secondly, can you arrange yourself with EMUI? and if not, are you willing to tinker with the system to adjust it to your needs and wants?
- lastly, the GPU is "only" mainstream, so if u want highend graphics and are a mobile gamer, u might want to wait for upcoming SD or exynos devices...
on the other hand, if your focus is primarily on battery life, super smooth day to day operation, the fastest mobile cpu on the planet (indeed, even faster than upcoming SD820 and exynos8890!) a HUGE display with superthin bezels and super crisp, clear and vivid colors, then this is definitely for you!

Got a Mocha Gold 4/64gb version and I simply love the phone. Since I have been using Mi Note Pro before, I do not see whats wrong with Huawei's EMUI (albeit tons of complaints web-wide).
Not too sure about mainstream reviews, but mine came along with a rapid charger and flip case+generic screen protector. Some online reviews were *****ing about not having the rapid charger in the package.
On the other hand, for the un-initiated, the GPU on the mate 8 may look like crap vs the SD or Exynos. But after testing it on my Mi Note Pro (SD 810 SoC), I discovered the Mate 8 does not throttle (or a little) when compared to it, after prolonged game play.
My Mi Note Pro, starts to heats up really fast and you can tell the throttling a few minutes into GPU intensive games.

Does the Mate 8 have multi-user profiles by default? If not are you able to somehow activate them?

I wouldn't recommend because of the notifications bug. People who don't dive deep into settings will miss emails, messages, etc.

In this case, this is not a mate 8 bug but an android 6 bug.

I would recommend it to most people. If having the best camera is important to you then I would pass. Everything else is great with the phone except the camera doesn't take sharp enough photos. They look sharp on the phone screen but transfer them anywhere else and you'll see how sharp they aren't compared to other phones.

That's an issue, that hopefully will soon be fixed!
