Android 6.0 Marshmallow - will we get it? - Ascend Mate 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is a somewhat silly question, I admit. It's reasonable to assume that Huawei will provide Android 6.0 to their older phones, considering they just made the new Nexus 6P.
Or will they? What do you think? Is the Nexus 6P comparable in terms of hardware to our Mate 7? How are chances that we'll actually get Marshmallow within a reasonable time frame?
Also, what do you think - will Marshmallow make it possible that we could get a CyanogenMod installation for the Mate 7 with support for the fingerprint sensor? Or another, similar, close-to-stock Android experience?
I, for one, would rather wait for Marshmallow and stick with KitKat for the time being, hoping that the new system will improve significantly on Lollipop - and also hoping that the Nexus 6P means adoption of Marshmallow to the Mate 7 and other Huawei phones will be much quicker (and easier).
What are your thoughts?

we are waiging a year for lollipop. i guess they'll release finally this goddamn lollipop just to get rid of haters on their fanpages and forget about mate 7.
if you are expecting 6.0 in reasonable time you are just dreamer.

The Nexus 6P will be updated by Google and not by Huawei to be clear and i`am afraid we`ll have to wait for the M update at least 6-9 months if they continue developing Lollipop. The Nexus has a different CPU and GPU then the Huawei`s/Honors so that won`t help either. I`ll be switching to the Moto X Style soon i`ll think because the Nexus`s are ridiculously expensive this year imo, at least in the EU :silly:

No, it isn't.
If Mate7 gets M, great! Just don't hold your breath... :fingers-crossed:

Update will be available around Januari-Februari 2016.

Hope this is legit but i have serious doubts

The AM7 hasn't even received an official Lollipop update, the mere thought of getting Marshmallow is a dream. Huawei has been promising it every month, and has failed every month. I absolutely love my AM7 physically, but the software is outdated. The fact that Google will be in charge of the 6P's software is the only reason I bought one. Huawei has physically built some amazing phones, but hardware needs to be complemented with software, and the fact that their 2014 flagship device has not received the 2014 update to 5.0 a year after its release leaves me saddened for Huawei customers that can't change phones, or are committed to their AM7's.
Different strokes for different folks I guess. Many owners are content with 4.4.2 or the various CM based ROM's out there, but I believe it's reasonable to expect a vital software upgrade to a flagship device within 5-6 months of its release. We're nearing a year and still are going nuts over beta releases that are still buggy (I just reverted my AM7 back to 4.4.2 b125), and that to me is a deal breaker. But again - some people are content.
I'll say this though - CM12.2 or whatever it'll be called for Android M would go amazing with the AM7. With fingerprint reading natively built into 6.0, maybe we could see CM ROM's with a fingerprint scanner. My main gripe with the CM ROM's for the AM7 was lack of fingerprint reading (understandably, of course, given the nature of the way its built into Huawei's kernel). Oh well!

even honor 6 received lollipop today

Nexus P6 belongs to google .. the manufacturer does NOT do anything with software AT ALL .. nexus phones has pure android directly from google so that is why it has 6.0
6.0 Marshmallow on mate 7 ? next year christmas maybe ?

The different hardware is a convincing point - considering this is (from what I've read) also what's keeping back Lollipop for so long.
I've been eyeing the Moto X Style myself, as well as the Nexus 6P (which I find far too expensive) and the OnePlus 2. I would miss the fingerprint sensor on the Moto, though ...

That's what I'm hoping - that a CM-based Marshmallow ROM with fingerprint support will come to our phones. In fact, I can't stand EMUI and would prefer vanilla or close to vanilla Android - if only it were currently possible. Since the OnePlus 2 is impossible to get (at least at its official retail price) and the Nexus 6P is so damn expensive (almost iPhone money ...), I'm going to stick with my Mate for the time being ...

No.
Don't expect Marshmallow for mate 7.
Just don't.

I cant tell, i only know that is a leak, but there are several news telling that huawei will update mate 7, mate S, honor 6, p8, and more, to android M, lets give them a try

I would say that the lollipop upgrade has been dumped away - and we will go directly to Android M6. Last known AL5 beta was B317 for the LT-09 - the betas came out every few weeks, now it's silent since the B317 wich was close to done - was in matter of days for the official release.
Also some sites report that Huawei said about AM6 update is coming much much sooner...and some of them even say Q4 2015
http://pantomath.xyz/emui-4-0-based-on-android-marshmallow-to-be-released-in-q4-2015-by-huawei/
Edit: NEVERMIND i just found out it was Huawei Christmas XD

Lg is bringing to g4 marshmallow next week already...that's pretty fast

I saw huawei 3 popular device will get Andriod M at first...and 6p already release...I found one of huawei developer said thes 3 brands, P8,Mate 7 and Honor 6plus...they will possibly release in end of 2015..its mean u can guess for half of 2016 hehe bcoz huawei always late...

LG dont considered Upgrade Nougat V10 & G4

I want to know Will G4 & V10 Upgrade Nougat OS
So I asking the question LG Service Center Korea
And They answered
"According to Lab, G4 & V10 is not supporting Nougat OS
We are trying to develop best program and provide stable software,
But Both Devices has a difficult to make stable Nougat firmware
So We dont support Nougat OS to V10 & G4
I'm so sorry"
Hmm.....
What do you think about LG dont support nougat os both devices?
on the Tmobile site it says that they have agreed to release nougat on the v10 .

Hmm
That's Curious
It would be very stupid approach by LG if they don't update their last year's flagship phones especially considering the bootloop problems that already had huge impact on their reputation. Till now LG have always provided at least 2 major firmware upgrades to new version of the OS for their flagships so i expect this to be the case here also. Both G4 and V10 have decent hardware so this can not be used as excuse. As for the time frame - considering experience with 6.0 upgrade i expect update to arrive for the H960A around march or beginning of april. Here is also the tmobile statement:
Software Version: Android 7.0 "Nougat"T-Mobile and the device manufacturer have agreed to support a new software update.
really disappointing
What a silly excuse for them to not to update G4 & V10 to nougat.. seriously, did LG think that we're kindergarten children that easily fooled by that silly excuses?
Hey, even the slower processor than SD808 can run nougat, even the new LG sh*tty budget phone can run nougat without problems too and even older SD805 from Nexus 6 can run Nougat.. Why not G4 and V10?
GGWP LG, goodbye.. I'm going to another OEM that gives better support on their flagship.. after all the way from LG Intuition to V10 and G4, both of this is my last LG phone.. My trust and loyal to LG destroyed.. nice.. real nice..
Sent from my LG-H815 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Hey guy's, calm down...the reply the thread user make a storm inside a glass, of course LG online support people dont know nothing about updates and if they know they dont tell to anybody.
Of course G4 and V10 will have nougat, wait at least 3/4 weeks and then you see...
i remember even G Flex2 i have year ago get the Marshmallow and nobody think they will receive it because of SD810 overheating problem. Why LG will be stupid and dont do a Nougat update for the best phone they ever made (V10)? - i have the V10 now and i am praised we will get the Nougat.
Lies of LG, because Neus 5X have the same SD808 than V10 (of course they are Nexus but have the same CPU of V10) and they already have Nougat, i dont trust in theyr excuses of "unstable build of nougat in this SoC", is just lies...
Wait for it and dont make so much smoke because V10 isnt the Note 7 and even if your house catch fire isnt because the V10, is for something else, maybe your brain thinking too much in Nougat for G4/V10!
Today I read news about G4 & V10 US verson will not upgrade nougat os
I translate article that news by Google translate
The netizen asked LG Electronics USA branch online for the answer, and said that they are "preparing to update Android 7.0 for both models." In fact, the US mobile carrier T-Mobile homepage on the V10 will be about to update Android 7.0 soon.
*
However, this happened because LG Electronics' decision was not passed on to the US subsidiary.
*
"Both of these products are technologically optimized for Android 6.0 from the production stage, so we decided to keep software stability at its best," an official at LG Electronics said.
*
In addition, regarding the point that the Android 6.0 version comes out after the G4 release, "I will make the trend considering the future version of the smartphone manufacturing, considering the next version." If there is any part of the new OS that does not fit, I made this decision considering that, "he said.
so, again...i dont know how many of people reading this thread have the international version of V10, the H960A but for your information yesterday, 28th February LG realese one update for our model, we are now with V20e and no more in V20c...i already update it via LG Bridge and now i will do some tests to find improvments in this update, since all i know is we have February Security Patch but who knows if we have some battery improvments and by this means LG really cares about update at least Security Patches and maybe we get Nougat in some weeks from now, wish i belive we will.
Hope is the last to die, thats what we say in my country.
Fine, LG....well done. Let's continue like this....and you can stop selling phones.
Pretty ridiculous that the V10 will not get Nougat.
18 months after release and LG is no longer supporting updates? If that turns out to be true then I don't think I will consider an LG product for my next smart phone. Usually when I buy a phone I stick with it for a few years. In that time frame I expect to receive good customer support and updates. Very disappointed.
I personally don't believe it. LG had serious problems with G4 and bootloop but they did not recall the model like samsung with the note 7. They designed new version of the motherboard (1.1) and tried to repair the phones for free. Most logical thing to partially fix their reputation is to provide android 7 upgrade for G4 and V10. We will see what will happen.

Sorry for OT, I'm also very dissapointed but can someone explain me... I don't understad since I have my V10 (H960A) why only other versions like T-Mobile or AT&T have so strong XDA support? And why only these versions can have custom ROMs, but flashing that ROMs on H960A will brick it...?
It's so annoying, I never before had so undevelopment smartphone...
Turns out that we will be getting Nougat (together with the G4), however we have to wait till Q3 2017.

Just don't expect Oreo or any subsequent security patches. It's end of the line for this phone. Despite LG's announcement of a "Software Upgrade Center" (whatever that may mean -- LG lacks the fortitude and vision to actually follow through on this initiative in a meaningful way), I don't expect subsequent support for older, yet not obsolete hardware.
I've been burned by the G4 (H815), G5 and now V10 (960a) just as rumour was about an Oreo release. LG announced the boot loader unlock on these too late for a critical mass of support for developers to provide custom software options.
I kept my LG G3 D852. I was able to brute force unlock the bootloader and run Resurrection Remix (Oreo 8.1) with Android Security Patch current as of February 5th, 2018 -- and it is a solid performer!
Who cares. Unfortunately our v10 was abandoned a long long time ago by lg and the carriers. Hell, out last security update was in September of 2017,no? Amd you're asking about Nougat?? Please. Keep dreaming because our awesome phone is off people's minds- lg, carriers, developers, and the public.

No Oreo for the P9

Hey Folks!
According to HuaweiBlog.de the P9 will not be updated to Oreo. That's pretty ****ty. It's a 569€ (Retail price 18.04.2016) )phone and only 18 month "old". What the heck is Huawei thinkng? They will lose customers.
What do you think?
They suck! Would never buy a phone from them for this reason. But to be honest, saw the Oreo on Mate 9, nothing to be mad about, minor changes but still it's not right to provide only one OS update on a phone that costs more than $600 (500 euros). Owners of P9 should blast them on all their Social media accounts to they get a lot negative feedback and notice the people's feelings
I don't know----it's fairly standard for premium android phones to get only 2 major OS during their short life. Nowadays you are "supposed" to get a new device every 2 years. The P9 was released with M and now has N (well almost all!) so that is probably all you are going to get. Most of the big brands do the same with their flagship devices. I'm mad because Nougat will not work on my P9, so I cannot even get any update.
Translated:

Jesus Christ its like watching kids crying about other kids that dont want to play with them...
You behave like that update is a matter of life and death to you. Like this update would make your phone brand new, add 10000 and 1 new features and give you 2 weeks of battery life.
Get a fricking life... This is just update, your phone is still the same, and if you would use your eyes and brain you would see that every update from every OEM fix something and mess something and rest is placebo effects. Especially battery life, that because of wipe/new apps look good in the first glance but later you get average time and you realize that difference is bellow 5%...
Not to mention that source is some german blog that have nothing to do with Huawei, I can find for you few post about P9 not getting EMUI 5.0 and oh wait... we have it...
And seriously stop that nonsense about not buying from some company ever again. Its like buying LG dishwasher that turn to work good but not so fast as it in reviews, and after that you state that you NEVER EVER gonna buy anything from them, TV, blu-ray... nothing! I can imagine that you have the same face as little kid:

''but eeee... its was expensive flaghip!"
No it was not, I bought it year ago, new from Media Markt for 500Euro(right now average price in Spain, German and Poland is 380Euro), hell P10 right now cost 499Euro...
Not to menton that phone is almost two year old, lets see how many devices from that time period, similar price tag and specification have oreo....
LG G5 - Nope still not here
OnePlus 3 - Still in bugged beta stage
HTC 10 - planed but still no update...
Xperia XZ - announced but still in waiting list... and because its Sony, and before Huawei I used xperias I can be sure that their updates will need 1000 fixes because I never encounter sony update that was good...
Gionee S8 - nope.
Asus Zenfone 3 - nope.
Even damn Xiaomi Mi Mix still dont have update -_-
So now relax, use your phone as always, because guess what? it will work even without update. Dont treat updates like some sort of miracle thing that make your phone x100 better in every way, and most important, stop crying about Huawei because compared to other companies its not that bad, especially that you not getting updates that need 100 additional updates that fix major problems. Compared to any other OEM I would rather get one/two updates but working without messing my device. I buy device for how it work and look, and updates dont really change much, especially when average lifespan of device is 3 years.
@Akinaro I guess you need to get a life man. Having time to write so much BS doesn't show like you have one...
Updates are important not just for the futures - about security too. And for the price of the phone you deserve better.
And you say "stop crying" but you are crying too... It's kinda funny. We all have different demands, some people like you settle with less, others want more. I respect people that are ready to fight when someone screwed them... So many better options out there than Huawei and their greedy a**
P.S: Using MEMEs is so mature...

Writing that and finding that meme took me less than 2 minutes, in the same time I was preparing diner. And by willing to prepare food with intent of eating it, I can say that I have life, because I was not focusing 100% on that so much. Not to mention that Im not spending lots of time here posting sad comment about not getting update...
Second thing. yes, of course Im not mature, because your emojs are more mature than images with text that I used WAY before they where called memes that just express specific idea/though in funny way...
Of course, yes, humor and making fun is not mature... I will say that when I meet stand-up comedian or people who make comedy shows, especially writers that by average are 40 years old. Im barely 29, so compared to comedians Im a just a kid, so I think I have that nice possibility to use "memes"...
And sadly I see that you not really get the idea behind expression "crying"...
I would explain it to you, but, guess what? Its not my job. and and right about now, I spend 1 minute and 20 second writing that reply in the same time focusing on eating and watching on my P9 latest news.... because i dont really need update for that....
PS. dont compare security updates to major os updates... its really sad that people in xda forum cant really separate such simple things in their minds...
Good day :]
And again 1000 lines with nothing important in them (skipped most of them). Too much free time man, and too much on the internet I guess. Emojis is a lot different than MEMEs... It's not about the time to find it, it's about using it at all, when you can just write it.
So enjoy your dinner and then cut the internet cord - as it looks like it's not good for you. At least take a break for a while.
Have a good day.

That's really not the point. The point is : a couple of website had some information to the Oreo coming on P9 and the Beta program seems to be active for the P9, according to the access, indeed there's no project availability.
So, if you want to debate to the software support of Huawei, open your own thread and don't pollute this one.
Until the official announcement we cant say any thing... I read somewhere that huawei has 2 major update policy for its flagship phones... so until it is official dont share wrong info...✌✌

Ok. Not trying to be condescending, but most of us already figured that Lenovo would be dropping their support. It is almost 3 years since release and 2 years or so of support at most is pretty standard.
If the lack of support for security updates bothers anyone, there are 2 options available: custom ROMs or upgrade to a newer device. Personally, I think being smart about installing apps and basic personal good security habits should be sufficient to protect a user.
It is very unusual for any Moto device to get upgrades/updates after 24 months past release... In general figure that if it's been out 18 months, it's done. This is nothing unusual, if you expect more than that your kidding yourself.

Really? So on reading the above you just destroyed your phone?
Mine isn't dead, it's as good as the day I bought it and does 95% of what I want from a phone.
As aybarrap1 says intelligent informed use of your phone mitigates any security problems. It isn't any worse today than it was yesterday or last month!

This... As far as "security updates" go, they are largely just a marketing gimmick. I've written several post on why they are not realky important so I won't do it again.
If my moto didn't crap out., I would still be using it with out security updates. But I moved on to Pixel 2 xl. Glad the moto died now. Moved on to pixel 2 xl. Loving every minute of it. It will be a matter of time phones will be just way to expensive to keep up with next best thing. Phones are at there limit and are in a stale mate with technology. I wouldn't be surprised to see in the next 2 to 3 years a major slow down on purchases of phones. Then the rise of pay per security updates. Phone companies still making money.

Yep, that is exactly what I was referencing. :silly:
Our mxpe/style can run O and P, the reason for it is greedyness of a company wanting you to "buy" the newest latest tech that comes with latest OS. BS, I want the latest features and energy efficiency OS.
Like m+a+r+k said, it's still like new, knock on wood. Mine is going on 2 1/2 or 3 1/2 years old depending on the production date. I'm not one that can afford a new phone so I am stuck with I got and happy I didn't pick the nexus at the same time the mxpe came out well because my mxpe is still rolling.
Anyways, I facebooked on Android story page of Android Pie and you do not want to know what I said I also tagged lenovo and motorola on this particular subject on that page, letting know what I think of them for doing this when the phone can run o and p just "cussing" fine.

If mine died I would probably go for a Pixel 2. They'll be fantastic bargains when the Pixel 3 comes out. My main device is a Pixel C and so I can't justify £500-800 for a phone which is essentially just my communication device and music/podcast player!
How did we get to the point where £800 is the norm for top devices? Crazy!

This topic has been beaten to death... It is what it is. It's purely a ROI thing, so I don't blame them honestly. Why invest hundreds of man hours in a device that 90% of users won't keep more than 2 years anyway?

I bought second hand. But the person owned if for little over 30 days so they couldn't return and I know the person. They just didn't like the vanilla android and the slight blue when looking at it more than a 45 degree angle. I got use to it and now don't even notice. Pixel 2 xl is a beast. Always reached 8 hr SOT with 15% to spare when I do run the heck out it. That's with 60% brightness all the time. Bought for half price.
Side note though. Yes you can run roms with O and soon P on the XPE but roms are glitchy. Every one I've run into is made by very good DEVS but they make it to their liking. DEVS will soon abandon the XPE just like all other phones. I would pay moto for OS updates but not security updates. Security updates like stated before is just to give some warm and fuzzy like you're safe. I don't keep credit cards on my phone. If they want my emails they can have them. I do not store anything on my phone that will benefit any thief.
Android 7 on the Moto X Pure is great... I've been using 8.1 and now 9.0 on the essential phone and IMO Google has gone backwards more than forwards since 7.1.
If I hadn't picked up the Essential Phone for $250 on primeday I would use the Moto for another year... Or more. Definitely keeping it as a backup.

IMO 8.1 just didn't add much for the user and 9.0 is all about restriction, becoming more Apple like with a joke of a gesture navigation. So for me, 8+ is a big meh... I can happily live without them if I had to.
LOL...I would love to see how they would implement android as a service. The core of android itself is Linux based so there is the first issue. Aside from that, with so many hands in the pot implementing their own stuff into android, I can't see any common ground really being reached...especially when it could be seen as colluding.
As are as device support ending by the 2 year mark, no surprise there. This is common practice in the industry and it will probably not change. In fact, with most devices being released today having the batteries not being user-replaceable, it just helps companies sell more devices. Anyone who is a moderate to heavy user can attest that the battery longevity considerably depletes in 2 years. I have known people to use phones 3 or more years if the battery was easily replaceable. The companies could not win with stopping updates, but they are because of diminishing battery life.
Personally I would not being willing to pay for OS upgrades. They should be provided for 18 to 24 months for free. If it works, and the apps I need work, then so be it. By the time the apps will no longer work with the older OS, the device is probably over 4 years since release and it is time to move on.

According to this support message from July 31, 2020, the rep said they are continually optimizing the experience of EMUI 10.0 and asked to wait patiently.

I'm still on 8.0 since I have a US version. If any M5 is updated to 10, I will be shocked.

Wow, this is awful. Mine is from the UK and I'm on 9.1.0.335
I thought the US owners were able to update already. Did you try the "Unable to receive official system updates" guide on Huawei's website or running the HiSense update software on PC?
It really disappoints me that we're even having this conversation regarding a two-year-old device. I will probably never buy another Huawey product again if that's the case. I'd expect to see at least EMUI 10 and Android 10 for the M5.

It's now dropped off the support list completely - so don't expect any more updates. Still, at least in the UK/EU it's had more support than most Android providing manufacturers.

well, one major release and two years of security patches is not so much, I was expecting a bit more from Huawei. At least they could open the device completely so that one can flash all partitions and not only system, boot and recovery.

It's also not what Huawei promised - in theory, it was one major OS update, 2 years feature updates, and 3 years security patches. However, given the Huawei/China vs Trump thing I can understand that going out the window.
However, as I keep asking, who else does supported, decent Android tablets at a reasonable price? I paid £220 for my 8.4" M5 2 and a bit years ago, and there isn't anything obvious at that type of price now.

Exactly. The Samsung tablets with fingerprint reader cost more than £600 and now I am so used to using the fingerprint instead of typing passwords all the time that I don't want a tablet without a reader.
One of the many reasons to hate Trump is that the best provider of Android hardware of the last three or four years has now disappeared from the market.

I wouldn't say they've disappeared - but they are now using an AOSP build and have no access to Google Services out of the box. Which in turn reduces the practicality for many people, depending on the apps available in the App Gallery.

I've absolutely loved my 5G, but because thought we'd come to the end of the road in terms of updates, I've been struggling to find a worthy replacement.
I wasn't sure of the credibility on the article I saw so came here to verify.
Just the promise of this is like Christmas come early for me! So pleased I didn't get around to replacing or selling it.

I don't wanna be a party pooper, but this is not a major upgrade. Emui 12 is still android 10 as is Emui 11. Is just an enhancement to the Launcher really. As much as I like my 20 X I'm more than aware it's going to be stuck on Android 10 forever. Maybe Harmony will bring 11 and 12 eventually? You'll have no Google apps though. Sadly it will be time to move on for many.

Thats okay.
But in my opinion its all about what you want and need.
For me a stable phone is more important then any major update. And mostly i prefer a good OS/launcher vs major updates t....
Android major update is mostly a mix of different brand OS.
I have my Mi 11 ultra to, but the display is still to tiny for me, so i mostly use my beloved Mate 20X
But we will see what will come.

This is a tough phone to give up. I thought about buying the pixel 6, but I know I will come back to the 20x. I did a speaker test between the P6 and the 20x. Our phone blew the P6 away! Only thing for me is battery has taken a hit since the July security patch. I'm on 11.0.0.155 and battery is much reduced unfortunately. How is your battery now?

Agree.
I bought my first M20X in December 2018 and it died 5 month ago, fall down 15 meter
Then i bought Samsung S21 ultra, had it 2 weeks and sold it.
Then i saw a Chinese version with 8gb 256gb with a global rom on Aliexpress.
https://a.aliexpress.com/_mKGELoW
, everything is 100% like my old global version, so my battery is awesome. But if it was bad, i just replace the battery, the battery it self cost nearly nothing and we have lots of shops who can change it for me.
So i order this and the xiaomi mi 11 ultra, still i prefer M20X in most aspects, its still a power house
I'm probably hoping in vain for a proper dark mode similar to in MIUI where it gives you the option to also do 3rd party apps not just OS elements. This worked great even with my banking apps but nothing like this in EMUI.
I've tried DarQ which is a little clunky to get working and doesn't work as well.
How do I root this in 2022? EVR-AL00
