Finally! Someone with the same problem. My kitkat Portugal ftf camera was excellent. However, after flashing the Algerian ftf, the camera is awful. I'm considering reverting to kitkat because of that, but I really like lollipop and it's blazing fast. Any help?
Can someone please suggest what to do, since I flashed two more ftfs: Philippino one and Croatian one. By the way, I wiped everything the first time I flashed (the Algerian one) but I didn't wipe when I flashed new ones. Does that have to do with anything? Anyone, please??
I flash Algeria FTF and everything is fine. In mine opinion camera taking better pictures instead of KK 4.4.4. Phone is faster and lauder sound.

Can you tell me, please, how exactly did you flash? Did you uncheck or check any of the boxes when selected the ftf? Also, when I start the flashing process, I get a "yes" or "no" question about an FSC script. Does that have any relationship with the camera?
Also, if it's not a problem for you, can you please upload a full resolution photo from your M2 Lollipop? Thanks in advance, looking forward to your reply.
When I was flashing i check all 3 boxes with clear data and else. I dont have any FSC sript when i update
Will upload picture later

My pictures atrocious in kitkat so maybe lollipop will fix it. The preview is fantastic but as soon as the shutter is clicked you get this awful smudged and blocky picture, it's like upscaling a vga to 5mp. If a scene isn't illuminated with direct sunlight it's black and noisy. My old Miro takes better pictures.

i can confirm that i used the same firmware and also on script i clicked NO.
Camera works better than kitkat and quality is way better. Phone is faster as well (rooted and boosted my SD and internal card speed as well )
Louder sound indeed
and i managed to test-play modern combat 5 really smooth (which it was not supported from my device before )

Exactly, I have the same problem. Did you find a solution maybe? Have you tried other ftfs? Have you tried flashing a kitkat ftf and then doing an update over PC Companion?
I do get this problem too. Photos are indeed oversharpened and look like it was blown up from tiny mpx.

Well, no matter how much overthink the things. Camera works fine selecting foreground, but, the rendering sucks quite much. Even Manual doesn't look manual itself. Don't know if Sony try to make something, but so far, camera is pretty useless.
Lollipop really put a hard work onto sound quality/noise and performance of the device, though. Yet, the one important thing was left behind.
Kind regards

Is it a software or hardware thing? I mean the noise and shutter delay and video/picture quality. Do you think it can fix via software update in the future? Or we should accept rightnow that the sony advertisment of XL is not true.
I also compared the front facing camera of samsung galaxy s3 mini and Xperia L. The s3 mini has better quality when it comes to low light.
It's a software thing. Many people said that there is a diffrence between quality of photos on dirrent software update's. Defently Sony will fix it.
Ahh thanks for answering. I will keeo my xl for now and wait for the upcoming updates

Yup I tried different 3rd party camera apps but they all lag on low light. on .17 this is fixed
Ahh. I will wait for the new update. I hope this camera problem in .17 will be fix. Do you still using .36 fw now?
Is there any app that will correct the noisy images of Xperia L?

Use snap cam. It's much better than the stock one. Just change some settings manually and you're good to go. Also the autofocus work well.

I haven't used cm11 so can't tell. Stock works good for me.
Try adjusting the white balance for different lighting situations. Use ISO 100 or 200 if you are clicking outside with enough lighting.
Also you can try using different saturation and contrast levels till you get a perfect picture. I can't tell you the exact values since these vary with lighting.
All the best

Even I tried some but they didn't work for me either. Their working depends on the framework itself and thus they don't work with other devices most of the time.

if someone port sony camera framework to cm it will possible work perfectly
We all know that the Stock Sony camera app sucks
Superior auto didn't live upto the expectations we had with the hardware(exmor rs sensor, etc, etc) that Sony provided to us ....and naturally we were forced to move to other 3rd party camera apps :-/
But the number of camera apps there is humongous and each and every camera app gave different results, had little different features, making it more difficult to choose one.
Many camera apps were ported from different devices (Z1,LG G2,Samsung S4 Google edition,Lenovo,..) each giving different results but altogether they gave better results than the Stock Camera app.
So I began testing different camera apps,,,ranging from ports to the basic playstore downloadables ..
Had to go through a lot of them ( Z1,LG G2,Samsung S4 Google edition,Lenovo,Camera mx,Camera zoom fx,camera FV-5,and many,many others that I don't remember right now )
I found that for full manual(almost) control Camera FV-5 was better than any other app that I tested, and the fact that it could save images in lossless format(PNG),,definitely made it superior.
And then I realised that manual controls was not every one's cup of tea , and also not suitable for capturing something real quick :-/
The need for "Full auto" arises
So the search began, all over again....
It finally came to an end on this app by ALMALENCE called 'A Better Camera'
At first I was not impressed by it's clunky UI, it's not bad but not great either, but for full auto mode, does that.really matter??
But when I started exploring the app furthermore,I realized that I had a decent set of features.Started clicking photos rightaway
It really takes some great photos in all lighting conditions ,and in various scene modes. The photos come out to be really sharp and crisp, color reproduction, saturation, contrast levels were really spot-on.
HDR was the true "icing on the cake" for this app..here I came to know what really HDR is meant to be ( a little noise is observed here, but can pe reduced from settings)
Panorama can capture full 360 degree resolution(20600 x 1892 )
Single Shot Jpeg images come out on an average 2-4 mbs.
Video mode takes decent quality videos too.
So the result was that this was the best camera app that I've tested till now. Also, the developers of this app are currently working on bringing PNG to this app,and hopefully making the UI b a little better
So those who are really disappointed by the stock Sony Camera App this is "the best"app to go for...Go ahead and try this app and compare, you'll definitely notice the difference (& upload them here)

UPDATE : Sometimes, you simply can't note any differences between images produced by different camera apps,, this is because of the Bravia engine.
The Bravia engine saturates the colors evenly and sharpens the image, improves contrast, fixes exposures, etc, etc ... No matter how good or bad the photo has been clicked... and yes that's what it's for,and it does its job pretty neatly. But when u turn that off or transfer it to any other device or PC,, then u can clearly note the minute differences in exposure, saturation, vividness, and the details when fully zoomed in.Try it

@Rumman Shaikh: thanx for recommending "A Better Camera". BTW: there's a discount on premium features at the time.
I really miss a bigger 16:9 mode than my ZL had! My ZL had 9MP 16:9 mode I was using it all the time loved it. But here with the Z1 I have only 8MP 16:9 mode.

Sorry, but if you spend 500 or 600 bucks on a phone what's another 2 bucks for a piece of software which might actually help you out.
In the end I don't think any of the custom apps actually produce better photos, but ProCapture indeed allows other resolution 16:9 pics which the sony app doesn't. So yeah, I wouldn't make such a big deal of spending these 2 bucks if it brings you waht you're looking for.
I also use ProCapture and i really like it. There's just one thing that's really bugging me with all those camera apps...
Isnt there any way to use the hardware button to start another app than stock cam "when screen is off"?
It is working when the screen is turned on but when it's off i always have to press the button twice :crying:

Actually, I tested them all, and I still think all the other apps generates too much noise in the photo. Xcam I think is the best one after stock .
Another one I've found is quite good is Snap Camera.
You should add what rom you are using because it's a VERY different thing to ask for a best camera on STOCK than on AOSP.
Choices are completely different and results too.

I agree with MasterTB. There is already one post for comparing cameras, with images as a samples. I made zoomed images 100% and made preview of exact same place with different cameras, so you can compare shadows, medium tones and high tones between all 3 cameras. The best was stock camera (stock rom), after that ported g2 camera (CM12) and after that CM camera.
So if you are using some custom rom witch is not based on stock, thats when you need to compare because you actually need better camera.
Anyway, as many people mentored xcamera as good one, i thing i will give it a test ride.

Yes, it's huge difference. I hope that someone will port stock G3 camera. I planned to download few more app's and do tests but dont have time for that.
If someone want to take shots, i will be glad to make 100% zoom and compare them. Generally looking at the picture, you dont notice that much difference, there are few but not much. When you zoom image you can see that images are completely different.
This proves that stock roms are better if you like photos

Well done! Stock is with no doubt a winner, would be cool to see other cameras (F5V, Google Camera) on AOSP. Maybe I'll try them tomorrow and post
Im running blisspop - first time in a year that i flashed a non stock rom, why? - cause i heard that it now supports 4k, unfortunately it doesnt really work properly at all, the quality i NOTHING like 4k or even near to 1080p.
Ive been using Google Camera - ive tried many but this seems to be best when HDR is enabled.
My HTC port still has Chinese language enabled, not helpful.
Hi all,
I'm sure nobody has the same camera quality on 5.1.1 that they had on 4.4.4 so I managed to make a workaround for the oversharpened images in 5.1.1. Here it is:
1. Use a third party camera app such as Camera FV-5 (I tried them all, but this is the best) or another of your preference that has an option to manipulate image sharpness.
2. Open settings, find the "Set image parameters" and set sharpness to 0. You will notice that pictures are not oversharpened and do not have a lot of artifacts like they used to before, thus have more (although slightly blurry) detail.
3. Use a photo editor of your preference to sharpen the pictures again. Personally, I use Photoshop CC's "Camera Raw" filter tool to sharpen and (I have compared) the results from the custom sharpened images and using default camera are clearly visible; they're better.
I hope that this will help you guys, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Yeah, but the superior auto quality has been improved since update

I dont understand the differences everyone seems to have with the same phone and same hardware. On kitkat on my phone the camera quality is the worst I've had on any phone, ever. It's even worse than the 1.5mp on one of the first, the image is smudged near cartoon like with little colour gradient. Yet some people say it's worse on lollipop and others say it's a vast improvement. Some good tips though.

What I've seen so far, snapdragon camera gets the least amount of noise.

Google Camera is the best for me.
Try cameraMX from google play store. It has lot of features.
I miss miui camera too. Slow motion, the speed of shots and focus... HDR doesnt work in original CM12 camera..
I am testing CameraZoom. The worst: I had to pay to get some extra features, HDR, Time Lapse.. etc...
Im thinking in come back miui7 again only for the camera app.. Please, If anybody knows how to install MIUI camera in CM12.1 .....
Thanks

use oppo camera one of the best found till now for every working feature including slomo and best quality among all camera that support the cm roms
Snapdragon camera 2.1 as for me has the best noise suppression.
Tried before: Moto camera, Camera IPS, Camera FV5, Oppo camera, Google camera, Proshot etc.
Snap looks best for me. Has great both auto and manual shots.

Guys, try the Snapdragon Camera + Sensei Kernel + Resurrection Remix.
For noise issues change Contrast, Saturation and most importantly Sharpness to Level 6 in snapdragon camera(from settings)
This is as good as MIUI's stock camera. Quote me if it helped.

If you mean the camera, kernel and rom they're all here on XDA.
The Camera settings are in the gear settings icon in the Snapdragon Camera app itself, you just have to scroll down
