I've seen some of you have said there is some 'bleeding of light' what does that mean actually? Are there holes in the casing or is it something with the screen? And how bad is it?
Edited to add: Despite the troll, a few people here have reported this problem first hand - however it appears to be small, so hopefully they got a rotten apple.
Having replaced my own LCD backlight, I can speak to it.
Basically the LED lamp sits on the very bottom of the tablet illuminating the tablet from the back (hence backlit), the light is supposed to be contained but sometimes the lamp housing may contain gaps and light will leak through those gaps. They appear as light flares across the above layers.
If you google Ipad 2 light leaks and view Images, you can see a great deal of reports with sample images of the symptom.
I'm not quite sure why companies don't just employ a rubber gasket or flap around the lamp housing to get a good light seal.

There was a comment on one of the android forums.
I noticed it when I first switched on my device, but it was late at night in a very dark room, and brightness was on full. I have brightness set to auto now, and I have never noticed this again.
I am very intolerant of defects such as this, so if I am not seeing it, it's fair to say there isn't a problem. Of course that's just my opinion, but I really don't think it is an issue.
Hold on a moment .......OK, I've just gone and stood in a dark room, and brought up the Gallery App, because it has a dark border. No backlight bleed obvious until I turned the brightness up to maximum, at which point there was a vague semi-circle of backlight just to the right of the keyboard dock. Turning the brightness down to a sensible level solved the problem.
Hope this reassures you. I should perhaps point out that I have no affiliation with Asus, or Google, and no vested interested in device sales.

It's pretty rare I think. I've only read it on a couple of occasions and as far as I know it's the only physical issue with the tablet. Everyone keeps raving about it's build quality. So, if there is any light leak in mine (when I eventually get it) I'm swapping it. Just another reason to try it in the store

I'm afraid I don't understand that - what LED lamp (singular)? I thought whole panel was made up of tons of small "lamps" lighting up?

The very first thread here, where people were asking for this forum to be made, there were a few people who said theirs had bleed (and a few others said the sound was uneven in playback, one side very loud the other low)
I haven't seen much, so perhaps its only a few unlucky people.

No, spare me your rolleyes crap. It was people saying: My device has this problem. And some saying I'm returning it.
I've been reading a ton of sites about this device, and may have gotten confused about which site i read it on, but clearly there is no mistake when people say they have the problem, so don't accuse people of lying.
It certainly is mentioned here http://android.modaco.com/content/asus-eee-pad-transformer-transformer-modaco-com/336683/eee-pad-transformers-owners-thread-14-04-2011-first-post-updated/
"I had started to noticed light on my screen that shouldn't be there. This obviously is a backlight bleeding problem. ... the manager then took a look in the dark and he noticed it and said it was a fault with the screen and I can get a replacement."
http://www.avforums.com/forums/14430336-post46.html
"Screen. Some light bleed unfortunately (this is also being reported by other users on XDA forums/Modaco etc) - not a deal breaker, but it is there.. admittedly only noticable when using at night... Still great images though. "
(So he's probably not returning it)

That's the way led technology works, but lcd (and i think ips) uses backlights.
I have a little bit of light bleed about 1.5" up on the right hand side of the screen... It's about the size of a 5p coin.
I'm not going to worry about getting anything done about it I don't think. I only notice in in the settings screen, and I'm rarely in there. When I'm in portrait mode, I just see it as a 'glow' on the taskbar.

Ah yes, you're right. Was thinking Flouro. In any case, light is leaking reflecting off small gaps from the edges and into the upper layers.
Have you ever tried to completely seal out all light out of a room? It is insanely difficult and amazing how much gets through.

No I haven't I generally don't blank out all light and watch stuff that way so I guess i'm ok (incidentally I hear that is bad for the eyes, watching tv in a totally dark room, but that's another talk)

Typicaly there are two light sources - at the bottom and at the top of the screen (or on the left and on the right - my LCD monitor has it that way). Sometimes there is only one source - on the bottom mostly.
I'm not sure about this but as far as I know LED backlight works the same way - it's only at the top or bottom in most displays. Some better LCD TVs with LED backlight have more LEDs behind the screen - but it's pricy to do so I doubt tablets will have it that way.
I have a reasonable amount of light bleed on my Transformer. Areas on the horizontal and vertical near the home button.
In addition, a couple of spots on the right hand side vertical.
No major drama, called Comet and they are sending me a replacement, though not until next Thursday when they predict they will have more stock, though given what I have been reading today on various sites, that date could slip a little. Doesn't matter though, my replacement request is logged and will happen when it happens.
On the down side, by the time I get a replacement I will have spent ages getting it just how I want it.
On the up side, I get to have all the fun of setting it up again.
On a side note, having cancelled a preorder for a Xoom through PCWorld and bought the Transformer, I finally got to play with the Xoom on the shelf today.
Definitely made the right decision.
The Transformer just feels better made, and despite the fact that the Xoom has excellent viewing angles, the screen is not a patch on the Transformer, oh, and did I mention the small fact of 100 quid!
The reason I started to asks about this is because I'm a bit skittish about light bleed, having once had a monitor and the store just thinking i was nuts "there is nothing wrong with this monitor its just you" - thanks a lot! Humpf.
Hello
I have noticed that my Moto G (1st gen) has a problem where if you touch the screen you can see a "ripple effect" in the center of the screen, it's get more noticeable as you press harder, but even if you press light touches it's still visible somehow but very little.
I have searched the forums and found people having this issue with the 2nd gen of the device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/help/screen-question-t2947732
here is a picture of the problem some guy posted (in my device it's always presents in the center of the screen no matter where i press):

I know LCD screens have this issue, but I suppose in phones they had to deal with it somehow.
what's bothering me it's that if it's more noticeable if i press the middle of the screen, the bottom and top parts seems less affected. like something is applying pressure to the middle of the screen (the battery maybe ??) I'm also seeing the "ripple" when I'm applying pressure to the M logo at the back of the phone.
Shame that even G3 has this issue who even cares about QHD lol, 720p is more than enough even for 5.5" screens.
Thanks for helping, I would be grateful if more people can check this out.

No bro, not the battery problem(no pressure), it is the way they made the phone.. Each LCD have his own "ripples", just take an app like linkedin en take a blue background you will see how sick the ripples are. Im also irritating a lot but really leave it dont look at the ripples
I've never had such a problem before with any touchscreen electronic ever had from resistive to capacitive touch. I did try to press really hard on the center of the screen of my Moto G and everything that happens is a slightly distortion because the glass is touching the pixels but not what you reported. What I noticed is a tiny bit reduction of the brightness every time I press the screen but is so minimal that you have to be in a pitch black room and pay a lot of attention to it. So I guess you could return the phone as defective or change the display if you're able to do that.
P.S. the pic you posted is not a total black image so when I turn the brightness all the way up I see something even if I'm not touching the screen. I tested with my own made really black pic and I have no issue whatsoever.

There is no way you really pressed hard and nothing happened.
If you would have pressed hard the ripples should be clearly visible, this is how LCD works and it's known. every phone with LCD I saw would ripple if pressed hard enough. My problem is that it's visible another normal usage in a dark room.
Are you sure it actually reduced the brightness? it supposed to be brighter. it will look like a white stain like in this picture: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3036130&d=1417076320. And yes the picture is not really fully black I found it on google and from my PC it looked blacked.

But why the ripple happens in the same spot? no matter where I press it's in the same location (in the center of the screen), that's makes me wonder, because in LCD's it's supposed to ripple where you touched.
Do you have a Moto G 1st gen too and actually sees this with regular taps? it's changing based on the tap location or it's fixed?
Thanks for your help

Because it is sensitive there?? It is rippeling on every spot where you touch buts on some ares it is more sensitive i think(close to the layers, especially in the center of your screen).
I own a LG G3 and before 2 LG G2 's. So i know what ripple means . Check the Z3 of Sony same ****.
Hello.
I reccently bought a NVIDIA Shield Tablet, and after 2 days i had it replaced becase the screen kind of had a "brownish" color tone on one of the bezels. The new one they gave me does not have that problem but the screen is different. When turned off you can see kind of a squared patern on it, and when on you can see that patern on some viewing angles. Is this possible?
Hope to get a quick awnser so i can present this complaint on the seller.
I'm pretty sure you're talking about the digitizer matrix. Is it really visible under bright light at about a 45°angle. Lots of little horizontal striations as well reflecting off the glass?

Hey guys,
Potential LG G Flex 2(H955) owner here. Before I buy it, I heard that the G Flex 1 had some screen burn issues. The G Flex 2 has the same screen technology so I want to know to what extent it will screen burn, as compared to something like Samsung's AMOLED. I know that those display phones can get screen burn since they are on max brightness with the same image/wallpaper.
However I will be smarter with my G Flex 2 and I will need it to last at LEAST 2 years before another upgrade.
Any feedback will be appreciated, thanks!

there are issues with some screens for example you see yellow spots with brightness 0% in grey font. With full brightness it is not very visible.

That wasn't what he's asking and I'd like to know that too.
My Note 2 screen has burned parts of it (top, bottom and a vertical yellow line in the middle) from using it for navigation. It appeared after a couple months of using it for that purpose.

Maybe its too early to spot this issue i personally have the phone less than 2 months. but from what I read about yellow spots and banding even changing the screen in service doesn't mean that you will get a perfect panel. Some people changed 5-6 times panel in order to find a good one.

Yeah. The problem (at least for me) is, that I couldn't find any info on this pOLED technology. I know AMOLED will burn out like nobody's business but I don't know if there is any reason this POLED would behave any different. It's the OLED part which is the culprit in the end (IMHO) but one just hope, they found some way around it (wishfulthinking).
I have a Flex 2 revision 1.0 from Italy. It has a permanent ghosting on white screen with the logo lg barely visible in the background. Also some yellowish tinting here and there. Blacks are impecable and on screen tester it shows perfect greys/blacks. I am starting to think the problem was heat. The 810 overheated the newly engaged screen and burnt a image on the glass itself . Oled are small oleophobic panels which generate heat so when it was coupled with the processor heating it created a ghost of the still image which still haunts me.

OLED stands for Organic LED. Oleophobic means fat/grease resistant.
Hello guys,
I just got my moto g 3 this week... I noticed vertical line on the mobile display today when back light is off or phone is in sleep mode..These lines are not visible when light is on... Moreover they are viable at a particular angle only or under direct light focussed on it.
The display and touch seems to be fine until now and no issues with performance.. But I am little worried about this fault of vertical lines. Does this mean a faulty display and should I get my phone replaced.. Please suggest if anyone else faced the same issue..
Thanks
Even I have these lines. Don't think anything is faulty or anything though.
Sent from my MotoG3 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeap, same thing here with a XT1543. But I only see them if I really look for it hehehe, it is not THAT noticeable IMHO... Relax, dude!
Today I noticed that I can see these vertical lines in daylight even while the backlight is on.
Has anyone faced this until now. If not can u guys please try and advise here..
Just for reference, I can see "vertical lines" on my LG G2 display under sunlight with the display on or off. It's more prominent when it's off though. I wouldn't worry about it, I think it has something to do with the digitizer (capacitive touch layer) underneath the glass.
Yes in direct sunlight i can see lines, dots, and even evenly spaced tiny threads reflecting in bright sunlight when the screen is off, and tiny vertical threads while using camera outdoors in bright sunlight. Never had a display like this before. Either something new and amazing technology or cheaporola uses cheap displays. Googled it. At least mine has no dead/hot/stock pixels.
Can see the lines when screen is pointed towards a light source
Got the same lines on my Moto G 2014, it's somewhat related to Gorilla Glass.
dont have any on xt1540 ,my xperia z2 had so i can easy notice it.
I have the same kind of thing on my moto g 4g, it's perfect normal and is due to the screen layers. :good:
i too notice those lines .. but only once i was able to see it , now i am unable to see ..
i think its related to temperature

Yes i observed it as well from day one. It is visible in sleep mode only looking from certain angles. Weird but not really an issue.
