Hello, after a good two weeks of frustration and a soft-bricked phone, I'm happy to say that I've finally managed to root my first phone, with huge thanks to various threads on here.
I now, however, have run into another problem. Firstly, I'm using an Xperia Z3V, Android version 4.4.4 w/ build 23.0.E.0.376. I've downloaded BusyBox, ROM manager, ROM Toolbox Lite, and Titanium Backup (all suggested from another thread here). What I'm trying to accomplish is setting up a recovery w/ CWM, but according to ROM manager, my phone isn't supported, nor can I update my ROM (which I'm assuming is because I'm on stock ROM).
How would I go about getting CWM? Would I need Cyanogen, or another ROM in general? Or is the Z3V currently just not supported? Is it necessary to have CWM if I, say, just plan on using my phone for normal activities (I.E., Facebook, YouTube, Emails, etc.). The only thing outside of normal use would be upgrading to Marshmallow.
Thank you, again, for the tremendous help.
Hi
As explained here, XZDualRecovery should work fine on your device.
Please check this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/xperia-z3v-general/guide-sony-xperia-z3v-t3100402
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist,

Hello I purchased a Lenovo A660 From ebay 2 weeks ago, I have tried following all forums to root and install custom roms. I am a complete Novice at this as it is my first Android device/smartphone. I have even paid online to have someone Root it, they installed SuperSu and told me it was rooted, but nothing has changed. When I try to install Custom roms I get stuck. My main problem is that I cannot get rid of the chinese apps and install Gapps. Please if there is someone out there who can help it would be great as the seller will not take back the phone now that it is rooted. Anything can help please!!!
A660 rom
Hello!
Five weeks ago I was in the same situation. After trying several roms, I ended up using this one: http://www.needrom.com/mobile/lenovo-a660-etotalk-mod/ . It's rooted and quite stable (some crashes with Strava, but not sure why), fairly light and most important (almost) free of that Chinese crap (no disrespect). The firmware has a modified vold.fstab and it swaps sdcard and sdcard2. Good luck!
Just saw this:
http://phandroid.com/2015/05/18/note-pro-12-2-lollipop/
I was planning on giving it a try. I don't have any files I need to save on the tablet.
I rooted the tablet recently and am running a rooted stock 4.4.2 ROM. I have titanium backup on there with a lot of stuff frozen, and xposed frame work.
I realizing flashing this lollipop ROM will unroot my tablet, but I'm wondering if I should do some kind of full wipe/dalvik clearing etc? Is there any other steps I need to take before installing a non rooted ROM on an already-rooted device?
I'm running the stock recovery at this time (but could flash something else if recommended.)
i checked out the link. it seems like the update is only for the LTE version (p905), unless im seeing it incorrectly, i wouldnt mind losing root whilst trying the new update
crap... you're right, the article itself refers to the "wifi only" version multiple times, but then the file is for the LTE... what a bummer. Erroneous article. Thanks for pointing it out before I flashed it.
Good catch !
Good catch there, I must admit I got quite excited seeing that lollipop was ready for the Note Pro 12.2!!!. I too have the WiFi version of the NotePRO 12.2'' P-900, and am chomping at the bit for Lollipop, more-so than for my main use phone (Note 3 SM-N9005).
I'm still on the stock firmware, enjoying the tablet as-is, but struggling to find many Apps where the UI has been crafted / coded / mod'd / re-written etc, with a tablet in mind!!
I've been patient to-date re: Lollpop, but will subscribe to this forum thread in case of news . Are there other sources I can / should be subscribed to, that you would suggest? .
Thank you, and cheers... :silly:

Just keep an eye on Sammobile. They're the ones with the firmware and the news. (The original article is from Sammobile.)

Could you help me out? I have a Note 12.2 that I tried to root when I first got it a year ago. It tripped Knox but still did not get root. I would love to get to where you're at: KK 4.4.2 with TiBu, xposed, etc. Can you point me to some instructions that work?

Sorry for the late reply! If I remember correctly, I used the "near stock untouched" version found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t/rom-original-stock-debloated-stock-t2860069
But I forget! I do know that I have the stock recovery. I rooted/Flashed ROM with ODIN. But didn't install custom Recovery.
Hi folks,
my Sony Z1 (Germany) is still on KK 4.4.2 and I'm looking forward to update to LP 5.x because my new car will support "Android Auto" and I'm excited about to test what can be done with it (below Android 5.x only Mirrorlink is supported which does by far not offer as many options and supported Apps than 5.x). That is the story about my intention.
I tried to use the "search" to find other equal/ similar threads and found tons of posts saying "Recovery". I did not find any which lead me to an answer. So here I go.
My Z1 is rooted and I had the dualrecovery version 2.0.0 installed until yesterday. After reading this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z1/general/stock-rom-14-5-0-270-customized-sg-t3113543 I thought it would be a good idea to start with an update of the DR as the recommendation is version 2.8.3. I went ahead and downloaded the latest flashable version of the DR 2.8.9 and flashed it through the existing recovery. The installation worked smooth and easy. But ...
Now my Z1 is not booting into the recovery anymore. No matter what I try. After turning it on it vibrates and the green LED still turns on but pressing vol +/- does not bring up the (any) recovery menu. Allthough using the NDR utils app ends in the same result.
So I decided to download the 2.8.3 installer version and flashed it with my phone connected to the PC via USB. Again the installation finished without error messages but I still can't access the recovery.
Unfortunately I did not make a backup of the "chargemon" file (as recommended in the other post) before. :crying:
So I'm lost at the moment. Someone told me that he made a similar experience and that he found that the version of the DR he used was somehow to new and not supported. He was able to install an older ("supported") version again and the recovery was back up working like charme.
I tried to find my previous 2.0.0 DR version but I couldn't.
Does anyone here know which version of the DR I can use with my device and where I can get it? The NUTs download section does not have such a long history ...
Can I do anything else without having to restock, re-reoot, etc. my phone?
Thank you very much for your help!
Best Regards
Forever1972
Edit: I'm sorry but I just saw that there is a specific Q&A thread for the Z1 DualRecory here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647487 So maybe it is possible to move it over!? Thank you and sorry for screwing up! I'm not used to the board structure yet. I was believing that this is the correct (and only) Q&A section and followed the rules to post all help questions here.

Well, what worked for me was to go back to stock root it and so on... That took me 2 days and was real pain in the ass. Try to delete your recovery partition in fastboot. I am not sure how it is with stock ROM because I always use aosp roms. If you can and if you won't brick your device install custom kernel with recovery. I'm using m5. Tho even with kernel installed my recovery didn't work. But then I used nuts duall installer and it worked. NDT Utilis has an option to choose which recovery to load. Hope that helps. Don't blame me for nothing. ;p good luck
Sent from my Xperia Z1 using XDA Forums Pro.
I have a ZTE Grand X Max+ (only a Cricket phone) now. I rooted with kingroot, installed twrp recovery and flashed supersu. Since then, aside from all the exploring of the app store for the only-root apps, I am in desperate need of a verified and fully stable custom rom. If anyone knows of one for me please let me know. I need it so badly.
In the meantime, I am taking advantage of immersive full screen and I have tried 3 paid apps and few of the free too. All either cannot let you fix the brightness on a widget, use the button for recent apps on your custom soft keys or don't let you accept incoming calls. Can someone who is familiar with this whole topic of immersive mode please reply with a fully functional immersive mode/full screen app. As I've said, I have tried from the best of the paid version root immersive apps in the play store.
Thank you to all who have read my requests and all of you should all have an awesome weekend.
Looking forward to your feedback.
Hello,
I looked around for ROMs for you but came up inconclusive due to dead links and ROMs full of issues.

The experts there may be able to help, good luck.
Thank you very much for your time and effort. I actually was stuck without a rom after following a rogue set of instructions for something I forgot what for but it said to wipe out certain cache and I didn't have a backup of my stock rom. I went searching for a custom rom and used one for the Grand X Max, an absolute no no and I don't k of what I was thinking. But I flashed it with twrp and it worked, don't know why. There were many bugs in it. Luckily I found the stock rom and flashed, then rooted, flashed twrp and supersu zip again. But my point is that during the time living with no os, I was a madman searching for a rom and didn't find one for my phone. You are a lot more experienced than me, that's a given. If you could find any stable ones, I will definitely follow the directions you gave me. Thank you again.

If your device is back on stock and working normally and you are rooted, try looking in to using the Xposed installer and its' modules to customize your stock ROM, with the right modules you can make your stock ROM as cool and feature packed as a custom ROM. Try the "L Speed" mod also.
I love learning more and more, day by day about living with my rooted phone. Is it possible that you can please give me basic direction so that I can get started with Xposed?
Hello all, I am relatively new to the android rooting scene. I have looked into it before but always became discouraged by the amount of different informaton from different sources. I am a little bit familiar with flashing processes as I used to install CFW onto Sony PSP and PS3 devices. However there's a lot of new terms that I am soaking in and trying to figure out what it all means when it comes to phone rooting. I am currently using a Sprint Galaxy S5 Sport running Lollipop 5.0, with build number, "LRX21T.PVPU2BOH1" and Kernel "3.4.0-4445742 August 6, 2015". I've been looking around and every time I think I find a reliable source for rooting I see a disclaimer saying only works with certain build numbers, and mine doesn't seem to be any of the builds I have seen. A Google search of my build brings a total of 5 searches wit no information regarding it. Anyways I am looking to successfully root my device, install a working recovery mode, and if possible, install a ROM. I have searched through threads and scrounge up some information about the SM-G860P but not enough for me to go through with the process with 100% certainty of success. I also hope that this thread can be useful to other SM-G860P users and a one stop shop for all the files needed to safely root, backup, and restore files. Basically, I know it can be rooted using Odin and CFAR on Lollipop 5.0. But the steps after that I am unsure. Do I install TWRP, CRM, what ROMS can I install, what kernel do I need. Thanks in advance to any developers or members who can provide all the proper links to attain my goal.
I have a very similar build. I have successfully put on root, and CWM recovery, but, any attempts at custom roms have failed (assuming due to kernel), and I am unable to get tethering working, despite having root.
Followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s5/development/recovery-cwm-s5-sport-sm-g680p-t2907945 for recovery.
I rooted following something like: http://www.android.gs/root-sprint-galaxy-s5-on-android-5-0-lollipop-os/. The key was using the auto root, then flashing the update via CWM. Had to make sure CWM was installed, as flashing using stock recovery caused issues.
Tried to flash CM12 from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-s5/development/rom-adulterated-cm12-5-0-2-t2987665
But ended up in a boot loop.
I'm also scared to put xposed framework on, since most saying need to use a custom rom or else phone will bootloop.
Using most of the methods to tether, (like adb settings global or sqlite), tether_dun_required keeps resetting back to 1 after turning on tethering, so, I still haven't found a solution to that. I'd love to hear from anyone who's got tethering working on SM-G860P with lollipop.
