How many phones do you have? Do you buy a separate phone to install custom ROMs?
I have only one and for last few months I am playing with custom ROMs. It is great when you give new life to older phone, like mine. Motorola Defy+ with Quarx custom kernel and CM10 4.1.2. Like new phone. :good:
I just have one, but I change my custom romantic weekly. it's fun

Three, all have custom ROMs. Captivate Glide, Samsung Infuse 4g, and my gs2. The gs2 is all I use right now, the others are laying on the desk. Might sell them.

I have two...Samsung Infuse and HTC Vivid. As you can see by my signature...i get devices to mess around with and try may hand at developing
(nowhere near a developer yet...but one day )
but i just love android in general...if i could afford it i would get sooooo much more phones lol
Think my signature says it all.
Back from the days of WM it's always been a thought before purchase.
Ignore current device as it's a get thru.
Previous have been s620/Rhodium/Rapael/ZTE Blade/DHD/SGS2/XT910 "there are others"
All of them had been customised and not just via flashing ROMs as back when time was not so valuable my time was taken in Kitchens editing resourses but now minimal I'm happy just to have tether work lol

Custom ROMs are the best
If I could afford multiple devices, I would buy separate phones for ROMs:laugh:

Wow we have shared alot of the same devices
Now to stay on post. I never buy a phone based on custom roms. Why you ask? Well here is the thing. Developers are always looking for the next big thing and change phones often. No promise that there will be custom roms for it. So I set out to get a phone that will suite my needs. Making sure it has an unlocked boot loader is all I need. If I want a custom rom bad enough then I will make it myself.

The phones I've got are Sony Xperia S, SGS2 & SE Xperia X8.
Although I only use the X8 now and again when I'm bored and wanna test on it. Apart from that, it doesn't get used
I definitely don't buy a phone based on the custom ROMs available. The Xperia S kinda proves that because there's not too much available for it really.
When buying a phone, it's gotta have whatever I'm specifically looking for at that time. In regards to ROMs I'm not really too fussed because a good phone with a crap ROM is still much better than a crap phone with a brilliant ROM.
"My badboy megazord whip's got more features than iOS5"
yes, because Arc stock ROM has lot of redundant apk

Hello,
I would like to buy a Motorla Atrix (MB865) but before to buy it I need to know two things. First, is it easy to install ROMs like cyanogenmod? adn second, is it possible to use Jelly Bean and have all the phone's functions working?
Thanks
If you're going to buy A2 & if you wanna use Official JB leak you should buy International/Retail A2 version, not AT&T...

First of all, please do not double post, all that does is clutter up the forum.
Anyways, you should do your reading, everything you asked cold be answered by looking around the forum for a few minutes. This phone has always been a pain for development, but it has gotten some new love lately and is picking up. That said, if you have the money you are much better off with a newer phone with better specs and more open development.
Hey guys,
So I had my Samsung Exhilarate stolen about 3 hours ago. I have suspended the account and doing anything possible to try and locate my phone, however, I feel like my chances are slim especially when I didn't download any security app prior to this event.
Anyways, I am not looking for the latest technology or best phone just something that gets the job done.
Between the Pantech Flex and HTC First, which do you prefer?
The Flex is older but can now upgrade to Jelly Bean apparently. The First can remove the Facebook Home launcher but appears to be discontinuing. Both I believe are priced at like $0.99 with a 2 year contract, which I will be doing.
Thanks!

Well they are still working on getting a custom recovery to work properly (at least on the 7.0) so custom roms are a good ways away. I would not expect to see much in the way of custom roms for the 7.0 until around Christmas time.
Good [emoji106] But what about official Cyanogenmod support? They have also supported p4wifi [emoji50]

That's what I was thinking, other similar devices have custom rom's. I don't mind the stock rom right now but having cyanogen or paranoid would be awesome.
Anyhow, hope to see news come December or in the new year.
Yeah, the tablet is very good, but I heard that because this tab 7.0 uses Marvell hardware, not Qualcomm like 8.0 and 10.1, building custom recoveries and ROMs is not an easy task to do. Even the root method (vRoot) is not 100% working, so I'm staying with stock, non rooted for now.
The same was with Tab 3 7.0 (also Marvell hardware, but older chip), but it eventualy got properly working recovery and CM11. But that happened half a year after it was released...
I'm looking forward to using this tab in the same way I use my S3 (Rooted OMNI with lots of customizations), but we have to be patient.
Not to hijack a thread but I'm assuming these devices have unlocked boot loaders. Why is injecting root into an Odin file a harder thing than it was on the tab 2?

That's one of the reasons why I didn't root yet - OTAs
There's an annoying bug with Wi-Fi that keeps losing connection. I'm hoping that it'll be fixed soon.

Just out of curiosity, I have one question that I have to ask. Why do you all want custom ROMs for this tablet? The stock rom on the Tab 4 8.0 model is very slick in my opinion. If the tablet is working fine for you, why mess it up with a custom ROM? I'm speaking from personal experience here. I upgraded from a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" model this past Saturday (for my birthday) and I used to mess with the custom ROMs all of the time on the Tab 2 but here's what I found after trying them out for a little while. A lot of the custom ROMs did not meet my needs as well as the stock ROM did. I have royally messed up tablets doing this and had to do a factory reset to get the tablet out of its funk. The last time I flashed a ROM, one good thing did come out of it. I realized how nice KitKat was on the tablet and made me want to upgrade my tablet to one that already had that OS already installed on it.
That's just my two cents worth on this. Take it for what it's worth.

I honestly have no idea why someone thought that it's a good idea to put a white backgroud to menus... MY EYES!!! :<
Perhaps here will be the beginning ...
NOOK will start to sell a new Android Bookreader on the base of Samsung Galaxy Tab 4.7. Nook devices wer normally rooted before they were sold on the street:

Also just because you have the 8" version doesn't mean we all do. I would also love a custom rom.
Sorry I even asked! I just decided to ask and give my opinion which is based on my own personal experience. I didn't expect that it would ruffle some feathers. I had 7" tablets until just one week ago.. I've never had great luck with custom ROMs personally because I always felt that there was always something missing when I was using them. When I would flash the tablet back to stock, that feeling went away for me. Now that's just my personal experience. Please don't get all upset because I dared to express my opinion here. I thought that this may help someone who is on the fence about using custom ROMs on their tablet. These are just confessions from a former custom ROM flashaholic.

Don't worry bro, its just you're not the type of person who sees the potential of this tab. Regardless, you have the right to opinion, but not everyone has the to agree with your opinion. Its your choice, I am not telling you what to do, but that just my opinion.

I'm a lady 404. I take offense that you say that I'm just not the type of person who sees the potential of this tab. I've just learned from personal experience to be make the best out of what I'm given. Multiple times of messing up my tablets and bringing them back to life have taught me that. Also, I'm one of those people who tries to take lemons and make lemonade. I'm not saying that everyone has to agree with my opinion but don't be mean about the reason why you disagree with me.
