Someone REALLY wants to make sure he's the only one in the bidding for those phones!
JK, Thanks for the warning!
How do you know its a rep? Could be a straight up scam? I recall something like this happening a couple of years ago. Can't remember the details but it seemed to work for some people.

check out Atlanta's craigslist. She's been doing the same here for months. Whoever it is won't talk over the phone, and only texts. I figured it was someone with a stolen CC number.
Or could be a 3rd party dealer. Those people are really shady here in my area.

I guess all i know is this person was able to post a false 900 dollar payment to my account with no credit card or checking account info just my name and tmobile number
So I bought a Nexus 5 from someone in person, they gave me the receipt for it and the box un-opened. 2 weeks late the phone was put on a Blocklist (lost/stolen). It is a nexus 5 so it can be activated on all carriers. The phone was from Koodo and I am on Rogers. What are my options here? I can't get a hold of the guy that sold it to me, but I have his phone # and first name. And the receipt of course. Are there potential reasons this phone would be put on a lost/stolen list? Is this some sort of method created by the seller to get his phone back and with no payment proof (I paid cash). The phone worked for 2 weeks before being 'blacklisted'. So something is up.
I did not steal the phone, I made sure it worked before I bought it. It was brand new unopened. I met the man in person at a public place. I just want my damn phone to work! I believe that if I call Koodo they will assume I stole it and ....do something about it?
What are my options here?
Thanks.

Blacklist means stolen and you're hosed. Up to you if you confront seller and I doubt you'll get police to assist since technically you possess stolen property. Call and ask if you surrender device to them would they help recover from thief.

Why would he supply me with the receipt, and why would it only get disconnected 2 weeks later.
This is frustrating, i'm pretty sure he blocked my # too so I get busy signal when I try calling him.

Sounds like you bought a hot phone. Why else would it be blacklisted? Something tells me you bought it out of someone's trunk for some ridiculously low price, so what do you expect? You're in possession of stolen property. If something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Since it was brand new, and they had a receipt, it was probably stolen from a retailer, so they probably won't bother looking for it. I mean if they were looking for it, the police probably would have knocked on your door already, it's easy enough to track a smartphone, and besides it's not like stores and the police don't have better things to do than to track every piece of merchandise ever stolen, they'll just write it off as shrinkage. Live and learn.
I work for Rogers and the best thing i suggest is to call koodo and explain the situation. Show them the receipt and they will probably work something out with you. They can call there help desk and remove the phone from there blacklist. Most likely they will just write off the phone. You may need to pay a fee to get it removed from the blacklist though. Next time order from the play store.

Umm.....typically retailers don't give receipts when you steal something. The presence of a receipt would indicate it was stolen from someone who purchased it.

This sounds like a likely scenario...the seller posted on CL early in Dec for an Nexus 5 or LG G2 wanted...several days later he posted a BNIB Nexus 5 with receipt, which OP purchased. Seller is still active on CL with other phone offers.

For everyone's info: the IMEI on the Phone matches the EMS on the receipt, it was purchased from a Future Shop. EMS and IMEI are the same thing I believe.
There is an 8 digit number written in pen on the back of the receipt as well. This could mean anything I guess.

Correct. But you can get your money back...
http://swappa.com/risks
So I have a note 5 on the jump program with tmobile, which is for 18 months.. I've been wanting to get the nexus 6p because I'm kind of burnt out of tw and all its restrictions, I actually left vzw and at&t for those reasons and joined tmo since they allow you to be free, but with Sammy that's not really freedom.. I put my S6 on swappa for sell but as we all know people on swappa are like craigslisters, basically want a new phone in awesome condition for free.. So I am considering putting my note 5 up for sale since I'll get more money.. I was told by a tmobile rep in a store near my home that I couldn't do that, that I'd have to keep the phone for the period of my lease.. Was wondering if the good folks here on xda could either confirm or know of a work around??.. Any help is appreciated thanks xda..
Edit : moderators not 100% sure if I put this in the wrong section as I was advised it be best to put in general section.. If that's correct can I delete this thread?..
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
Yeah, if you are leasing the phone or don't outright own it, you can't sell it. Swappa won't allow it to be listed unless it's paid off, use their imei checker, it will tell you if you can even list it.
As long as you don't cancel your account and continuo doing your payments you will be ok, I myself got one note 5 from somebody on a plan, the buyer will always take some risks, Im guessing you will have to lower the price to get rid of it on craigslist
I sale my on Craigslist too i go am extra sep so the buyer feels safe I let them get a picture of my driver license that way they know I'm not doing nothing shady
Is it just Jump! or Jump! on demand. Big difference
If it's Jump, you can sell it yes but you still have to pay on it
If it's Jump on demand, you can't sell it because you're leasing the phone. It would be like leasing an apartment and then trying to sell it.
Regardless what others say, I would be pretty ticked off if I purchased a phone that still had payments on it or was under a lease. If it's jump on demand, you can't sell it legally, it's not yours.

I posted a while ago in a thread I can't remember that I had talked with Verizon online and they told me that the free gear s2 was the 3g model. Yesterday I went into a Verizon store to play with the s7e and asked the rep the same question. He said it was the Bluetooth only model. Either way they both said that it comes directly from Samsung with no requirement to add it to my account which if it was the 3g model then it would cost $5/mo for data. I'm just going to flip it. Thanks for the $300 off big red!
When i pre-ordered my s7e they required the $5/month activation with $175 cancellation to acquire the watch. I have a hard time thinking the its just the bluetooth version due to my required fee but we will see. I figure its easier to not activate it and sell private party and eat the extra $5/month. ($5/24 = $120, cheaper than the $175 to cancel)
Edit: I looked over my receipt and see that its the $300 version gear s2, meaning that it is the Bluetooth model. Once I receive it, I will go into store, play dumb and cancel it saying that i thought i needed it for the watch.
Well jeez, I wish they would be consistent. I'm going to call them soon and get another opinion.
Edit: just got off the phone with them. Its the 3g model ($299 is the contract price). And It will cost $5/mo even if I never use it or give it away so I'm going with the vr headset. I have a moto 360 and don't consider the s2 an upgrade, and so I'm not willing to pay anything let alone $120 for it.
3 reps with three different stories. Really frustrated.

You guys are confusing me. I thought you need the phone first so that you can register it with your imei number? Then you pick either the Gear VR or the S2 and it ships from Samsung in 4 to 6 weeks (basically confirming that you still have the phone after the return period).
You guys are buying the watch directly from Verizon; not getting it free from Samsung! The S2 even shows up in Samsungs rules section 4. It's a Verizon S2 promo but through Samsung.
3/4 the page will go live. You have to give the receipt, Mac Address, and ECID/IMEI. Then you can pick which part of Verizon promo you want. This is a Verizon promo which is run through Samsung. You will get the 3G model, and there is no contract required for it(Just like with all promos if a contract is required it will say it in the promotion rules).
Thank you for confirming Tidbits! But even if the page goes live on 3/4 us Verizon users are basically stuck in a holding pattern until we receive the phone right? We won't have access to the MAC or IMEI until we have the phones in hand next week (unless Verizon delivers before 3/11).
Correct.
Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Correct you need the phone for the Mac Address. Also the reason why you wait 4 weeks is to lock you in so you can't refund. 30 days(California). Just food for thought.

Where in the promotion rules does it say that it's the 3g model? I can't find it. I just don't know which rep to believe, I'll probably call again when I have the phone in hand. Thanks for your opinion though.
Do you think Verizon would not give you the 3G model when they can probably convince at least 1/3 of them to get a plan for it? Samsung is selling both models for the same price right now. you know how Verizon loves money.
As if you look at the promotional details when Verizon advertises it. It says retails for $349.99 which Verizon sells the 3G model for that much. They sell the bluetooth model for $299.99
http://www.verizonwireless.com/landingpages/samsung/?tab=why-verizon
Galaxy S7 and S7 edge requires a new device payment activation. *Gear VR MSRP is $100, 6-game bundle is estimated at $50 value, Gear S2 MSRP is $349.99. Free Gear VR or S2 takes 4-6 wks to deliver. Visit SamsungPromotions.com/VerizonOffer to redeem the free offer.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/connected-devices/samsung-gear-s2/
Yeah, at this point I'm hoping Samsung gives out more information on the 4th. Even if I get a VZW rep to corroborate your opinion, I'm going to have a hard time believing them when three reps have said three different things already. Hopefully Samsung has the details.
just look at the pricing.
Retail value 349.99. There is only one Gear S2 that cost that much and that's the 3G version which I listed. If the retail value was $299.99 then it would be the bluetooth model.
I already got my free s2...bad news is when I called in to pre-order they messed up. They weren't supposed to discount one, I was supposed to wait. But they did and I got a free s2 with 3g from verizon. I can still get the offer from samsung as well.
---------- Post added at 07:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:24 AM ----------
Verizon has both versions of the s2 listed fur $299.99 on their website.
The 3G version $299.99 price is with Contract. Without which is retail $349.99

The number of gifts are limited and you already received a gift. The moral and ethical choice would be to inform Verizon of their mistake or not claim a gift.
Verizon already know that the reps messed up but caught if early enough that they didn't lose to much.

T-Mobile is basically giving these things away. If they used the trade in thing, it makes the phone either free or less than $200. They probably have another phone they are using and don't plan on leaving T-Mobile, so they just got one and are selling it. T-Mobile, effectively, puts you in a contract doing this. They take the price of the phone and give you bill credits for the whole term of the EIP. If you terminate service, you owe the phone. Combine that with the free line promotion they had a few days prior, I am guessing this is what is happening. The contract does not say anything about using the phone. As long as they keep their bill current and keep their service, it will be able to be used (I think...). I would be careful buying one of these V20s in case you are not allowed to use the phone on a line that isn't associated with the account, but that is me being a worry wort.

I'm betting a lot of folks have never heard of such a thing.
Yeah ur right. Lol I wast trying to buy a v10 and g5 earlier this year and ran into this situation. Very difficult to deal with. Most sellers selling them do t really understand them selves and they blame T-Mobile. It probly is T-Mobile fault since it's branded T-Mobile. Just want everyone to be aware they can't be unlocked, even a third party unlock service can't. Having it on ur account for 40 days doesnt matter either. It's a crappy situation lol

I'd heard of employee deals/mfg-partner phones/etc..,but,I didn't know about the SIM Unlocking issue.
Again, many THX for bringing this up,you've no doubt saved some people a lot of trouble. :highfive:
FWIW,here's Swappa's policy on clean ESN's:
https://swappa.com/faq/sell/share_esn_numbers
Bulletproof,no,but,it sounds as if they're doing their due dilligence w/researching the ESN/IMEI,perhaps w/more tools than the general public is armed with.
Some sharp individuals here on XDA/Swappa running the show,I'm guessing/hoping they have this scenario covered, enough to ensure the buyers are protected in a worse-case scenario.
A little bit off topic, can you get square trade insurance for phones purchased at swappa?

Um I'm not trying to be a pain but I bought my G5 from Tmobile and had it unlocked in 24 hours as I was traveling out of the country. I used the app on the phone and the code the rep gave me. I've traveled to 7 countries since then and used sim cards from each one no problem.
