I posted a while ago in a thread I can't remember that I had talked with Verizon online and they told me that the free gear s2 was the 3g model. Yesterday I went into a Verizon store to play with the s7e and asked the rep the same question. He said it was the Bluetooth only model. Either way they both said that it comes directly from Samsung with no requirement to add it to my account which if it was the 3g model then it would cost $5/mo for data. I'm just going to flip it. Thanks for the $300 off big red!
When i pre-ordered my s7e they required the $5/month activation with $175 cancellation to acquire the watch. I have a hard time thinking the its just the bluetooth version due to my required fee but we will see. I figure its easier to not activate it and sell private party and eat the extra $5/month. ($5/24 = $120, cheaper than the $175 to cancel)
Edit: I looked over my receipt and see that its the $300 version gear s2, meaning that it is the Bluetooth model. Once I receive it, I will go into store, play dumb and cancel it saying that i thought i needed it for the watch.
Well jeez, I wish they would be consistent. I'm going to call them soon and get another opinion.
Edit: just got off the phone with them. Its the 3g model ($299 is the contract price). And It will cost $5/mo even if I never use it or give it away so I'm going with the vr headset. I have a moto 360 and don't consider the s2 an upgrade, and so I'm not willing to pay anything let alone $120 for it.
3 reps with three different stories. Really frustrated.

You guys are confusing me. I thought you need the phone first so that you can register it with your imei number? Then you pick either the Gear VR or the S2 and it ships from Samsung in 4 to 6 weeks (basically confirming that you still have the phone after the return period).
You guys are buying the watch directly from Verizon; not getting it free from Samsung! The S2 even shows up in Samsungs rules section 4. It's a Verizon S2 promo but through Samsung.
3/4 the page will go live. You have to give the receipt, Mac Address, and ECID/IMEI. Then you can pick which part of Verizon promo you want. This is a Verizon promo which is run through Samsung. You will get the 3G model, and there is no contract required for it(Just like with all promos if a contract is required it will say it in the promotion rules).
Thank you for confirming Tidbits! But even if the page goes live on 3/4 us Verizon users are basically stuck in a holding pattern until we receive the phone right? We won't have access to the MAC or IMEI until we have the phones in hand next week (unless Verizon delivers before 3/11).
Correct.
Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Correct you need the phone for the Mac Address. Also the reason why you wait 4 weeks is to lock you in so you can't refund. 30 days(California). Just food for thought.

Where in the promotion rules does it say that it's the 3g model? I can't find it. I just don't know which rep to believe, I'll probably call again when I have the phone in hand. Thanks for your opinion though.
Do you think Verizon would not give you the 3G model when they can probably convince at least 1/3 of them to get a plan for it? Samsung is selling both models for the same price right now. you know how Verizon loves money.
As if you look at the promotional details when Verizon advertises it. It says retails for $349.99 which Verizon sells the 3G model for that much. They sell the bluetooth model for $299.99
http://www.verizonwireless.com/landingpages/samsung/?tab=why-verizon
Galaxy S7 and S7 edge requires a new device payment activation. *Gear VR MSRP is $100, 6-game bundle is estimated at $50 value, Gear S2 MSRP is $349.99. Free Gear VR or S2 takes 4-6 wks to deliver. Visit SamsungPromotions.com/VerizonOffer to redeem the free offer.
http://www.verizonwireless.com/connected-devices/samsung-gear-s2/
Yeah, at this point I'm hoping Samsung gives out more information on the 4th. Even if I get a VZW rep to corroborate your opinion, I'm going to have a hard time believing them when three reps have said three different things already. Hopefully Samsung has the details.
just look at the pricing.
Retail value 349.99. There is only one Gear S2 that cost that much and that's the 3G version which I listed. If the retail value was $299.99 then it would be the bluetooth model.
I already got my free s2...bad news is when I called in to pre-order they messed up. They weren't supposed to discount one, I was supposed to wait. But they did and I got a free s2 with 3g from verizon. I can still get the offer from samsung as well.
---------- Post added at 07:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:24 AM ----------
Verizon has both versions of the s2 listed fur $299.99 on their website.
The 3G version $299.99 price is with Contract. Without which is retail $349.99

The number of gifts are limited and you already received a gift. The moral and ethical choice would be to inform Verizon of their mistake or not claim a gift.
Verizon already know that the reps messed up but caught if early enough that they didn't lose to much.

Maybe to get the watch from Samsung sure, but Verizon is shipping mine to me on 3/11, with my s7e
You sure it's the watch and not a "voucher" to get a watch. T-Mobile receipt has some that appears like you are getting the gear but as you can see in all those unboxing videos none of them have gotten their gears.

On my order it along side my s7e which logically means i should be receiving them at the same time (3/11), I guess i just have to wait to see. only 10 more days. I do remember the person on the phone saying that both items will be shipped at the same time, but we all know how reps are.

who else did a best buy pre-order? i was going to do in store pickup, but then i saw a best buy faq page saying
"Q: I never received a notification that my Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge is ready to be picked up, even though I pre-ordered it?
A: If you haven't received notification that your Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge is ready to be picked up it means the store didn't receive enough of the model you pre-ordered to fulfill you pre-order at this time, or they haven't physically reserved your pre-order yet with the inventory they did receive."
and I def didn't wanna chance that..knowing my luck, they wouldn't get it. so i just did shipping.
it says it'll arrive BY release date of march 11th...anyone ever have any experience getting a best buy order before? i never used them for shipping before, so I'm wondering if i'll definitely get it ON march 11th.
pumped, though! played with one at best buy today and it's a nice phone. have my Moto X up for sale (since I use my note 4 so much more than the X) so i'm excited to get it!
I did bb pre order for an iPhone and hopefully Sammy is better. All stores get an allotment. Some for preorder and some walkin.
I cancelled and went to sprint that time. Some preorders were not filled for 5-7 weeks! Again that was an iPhone thing, hopefully Sammy sends out plenty!
Well the reason they didn't get a notification that it's ready to pick up is that it's not been released yet...
I'm also interested to know..if you buy online and ship to your home address will it be shipped on or before 11th? Or will it be after this date?
I mean when you click "when will I get it?" or whatever, it says on release date, 3/11 so I'm guessing they ship out prior..

Response from bestbuy cs said the 11th or the day after is *expected*. They dont know for sure or they cannot say, but most likely they just don't know at the rep level.

I don't know if it means much, but T-mobile has started shipping pre-orders. Mine is scheduled for UPS Next Day Air delivery tomorrow. They don't have to wait to ship, but they won't give you a date before the release date until they actually ship it.

see, that's absolute bs. if you go to best buy right now on the website and check the phone, and clikc "see when you can get it" for shipping, it says:
Get it by:
Release Date, Fri, Mar 11 - FREE
Standard
See final shipping costs in checkout.
so that's plain english stating you WILL get it by release date, correct?
day after won't happen since it's saturday and they definitely aren't doing saturday shipping.
this is just annoying because it needs a signature they claim, so i need to know if i should take off that day or not, ya know?
*edit* FWIW, not that reps know too much, but i did the chat and this was the transcript:
Thank you for choosing Best Buy, my name is Abraham. How may I assist you today?
28-Feb 03:39 PM
good afternoon, i've preordered a galaxy s7 for verizon, and the release date is march 11th. now, when you goto the device page and click "see what you can get it" it states you will have it on release date, march 11th.
28-Feb 03:40 PM
is this confirmed?
28-Feb 03:41 PM
Good afternoon! That is great that you pre-ordered the new Galaxy S7!
I'd be more than happy to assist you with your questions. Yes, you will be able to receive it on the 11th of March.
28-Feb 03:42 PM
perfect, so since signature is required, i may have to take off that day as i don't know what time it will come
28-Feb 03:42 PM
so it's 100% safe to say that on march 11th, UPS will deliver my S7?
28-Feb 03:42 PM
That is correct, you will get on the release date.
28-Feb 03:43 PM
perfect! thanks for your help today, abraham
so who knows. maybe we'll be lucky!

The Note 5 was the first phone Verizon ever shipped early to most people.Got mine a week early.Hope that was the start of a trend of early shipping by them.
I preordered, then a day later canceled. I wanted the free VR wear and the SD card but I didn't want to get roped into the stupid AT&T's 2 year $26 a month deal

Why didn't you just order the AT&T "unactivated" S7? It still comes with the VR and SD card.
Hmm not sure I saw that. Must have missed it. Is that where you pay upfront full price? I think ultimately I want to see what the models are like when they come out. I currently have tmobile s5 with AT&T sim. May want to buy another tmobile if they're unlocked bootloader. The whole SIM locked phone idea has me wondering though. Ie first sim installed, locks phone to carrier.
Preordered mine thru bestbuy.com hopefully they ship early. T-Mobile is doing so. So anxious!

Best Buy Mobile employee here, the way pre orders are usually explained are that when you pre-order, there is a chance you won't get it on launch day but you WILL get it before someone that just walks in to buy it without one. I personally haven't seen many stores run out of pre-order stock.
Hope that helps!

I'm 99% sure (at least in my store) you can only do in store pick-up if pre-ordering in store. Haven't heard otherwise about online pre-ordering.
EDIT: The info I posted is for if you are doing it through a contract/installment billing. I think if you get an unlocked or T-Mobile (we don't carry T-Mobile contracted phones in most stores), it's different.
thanks for the insight. I didn't pre-order in store, though. I did online. I was contemplating in store pickup until I read that there's a chance they may not have stock for all pre-orders... so i just did shipping. so any idea whether buying full price and getting it shipped should be here early? the chat rep said we'll have it the 11th for sure.

I did the same as you. Paid full price and selected to have it shipped to my house. AT&T version. I went Best Buy over AT&T because Best Buy is typically better about returns and don't charge you any fee, Best Buy offered a free 64 GB microSD card, Best Buy is actually sending out the Gear VRs instead of just sending you a code to get one from Samsung, and finally, I had a $20 Best Buy gift card that I need to use lol. Best Buy is notorious for botching pre-orders, so I'll just be happy if we get it on or by the 11th. I doubt we'll get it early.

I am interested in pre-ordering the Gear S3, but wanting to purchase it with some type of Warranty Plan similar to Buy Buy's Protect Plan. Best Buy, however, is no longer taking Pre-Orders so now I am trying to decide if I should wait for Best Buy or just go ahead with Amazon or Samsung. My wife and I both had Motorolla 360's Gen 1, hers with the Protect Plan mine without but luckily when she had the infamous back cracking she was able to return/exchange it.
Anyone have any thoughts on it? I am thinking waiting for Best Buy may be best, bit no ideas when they might carry stock again.
Brad
You can get a warranty from Square Trade. It's expensive, a claim will cost about 1/3 the price of the watch, but it is available.
Thanks, I do not have experience with Square Trade but that may be an option. I may wait until Best Buy stocks it considering how well they do support their warranty program.

They are out of stock now for the Frontier at least, I went to Best Buy yesterday and the Geek Squad guy didn't know when they would get more in stock.
To be clear, Best Buy has run out of their initial pre-order allotment of the S3 Frontier model and it is now showing as "coming soon" rather than having a pre-order button.
The S3 Classic is still available for pre-order, and is functionally identical to the Frontier. The difference is in the style and finish.
As has been mentioned previously, the Frontier LTE version will be available through cellular carriers.
@Dodge DeBoulet Yes, that is more accurate. I want both, considering my day job and my weekend fun but I believe the Frontier to be more universal.

I want the LTE version too, but Verizon is my provider. I can't get any information out of them as to whether they're even going to offer it. I may just end up going with the BT version if they don't announce something before 11/20.
I figure for the same price why not? So the major perk of the LTE device is you can make calls with the phone as well?
Still out of stock (This post claimed it was in stock 5 minutes ago because Best Buy let me put it into my cart, however removed it one I tried to pay for it)

Friday, the 18th. $399 plus $5 a month for data.
Anyone knows when it will be available in any european Amazon ?
I pre-ordered the non-LTE Frontier on Amazon for $349 and now it's $439. I have a suspicion my pre-order will be cancelled soon.
So, for those that are wondering whether or not Verizon will be carrying the LTE version of the S3 Frontier, I may be able to offer a ray of hope.

The model number of the AT&T version of this watch is SM-R765A
The model number of the T-Mobile version is SM-R765T

If you have shared data that makes sense. I have UDP and would have to fork out $40 for the service on the S3. T-Mo has an unlimited wearables plan for $20. I'm going that route. They didn't have any in store but are expecting them today.

So your phone and watch don't have to have the same service provider to work seamlessly? You call still get calls/texts forwarded to the watch automatically, and reply back like it was from your phone?
I have heard AT&T has true number sync (or something...forgot what they call it) so the watch will show the phone's number. But I have A tmobs watch and VZW LG V20 and all is good here as long as you are connected with BT or Remotely

Yep! No issues. That was my concern prior to going with T-Mo but it's seamless. The Gear app syncs the devices. It doesn't care what network you're on.

That is good to hear. It's tempting, but I'm not sure if it's worth $15 a month. I think you or someone else on here is using a friends T-Mobile account which is only $5 a month, which is worth it.

Only worth it if you have UDP with VZW and the S3 would cost you $35 added to your VZW account. I have my own stand alone wearable plan on T-Mo. Not piggy-backing on anyone's account.
I understand Verizon wanting to protect its customers from the frustration and disappointment Samsung is causing among the earliest adopters...
Does anyone remember how long after initial launch it took Verizon to start selling the S2? I'm just trying to get a feel for whether we're likely to be waiting a few days or several more weeks longer.
I come on here a lot and don't contribute much, but just had to share this with this community. I got a free Samsung Gear S3 Frontier from AT&T by .... JUST ASKING!
I'm serious guys...it took 3 calls to customer service, and I'm a longtime AT&T customer (since 2004), but when I called customer service and asked about how I could get the Gear S3 at a nice price since it was around the Black Friday period (I made the call on 11/22 around 7 am EST), the customer service lady I spoke to said that I could actually get the watch for free if I committed to a 2 year commitment of $10/month. I asked her to repeat that to make sure I heard her correctly and she said yes, they normally offer things like that when you get a new device, but they have ways around that requirement to get a free gadget and even offered me a free tablet (for the same $10/month access). I got the tablet too initially, and then cancelled it since I didn't need a tablet to be connected the way I use them and already have a better one. The watch actually came on Saturday (11/26) via UPS and I've been loving it...especially since it will only cost me $240 AND I still get the opportunity to use it as a standalone and can cancel that monthly access after 2 years to save myself the money. I don't know if anyone else will be able to get the nice customer service lady I got, but she mentioned that there are lots of free gadgets they offer and if you know how to manipulate things, you can get one yourself.
Good luck everyone and happy holidays.

Sweet, you got a great deal.
I got mine from T-Mobile on release day. I paid full retail for it, but I added it onto a line that was free. They were offering early Black Friday deals on that day. Actually you could get 2 lines free. I did, I put the Gear on one line, and I put a SyncUp ( a gps tracker and wifi hotspot unit that plugs into your cars diagnostic port) unit on the other line, the Sync Up was also provided for free, I just had to pay the sales tax.

I did not do quite as well as you, but the CSR I spoke with on the first try said that if you commit to the 2 year service agreement, they will sell you the watch for $49.95. Still an amazing deal. Signed up and the watch should be here tomorrow. In my case they also waived the activation fee. It never hurts to ask. He did tell me that the Gear S2 is free with the service commitment.
Happy Holidays to all.

Yup! . I purchased a new Galaxy S7 Edge, got a free VR headseat and the S3 Frontier LTE for $50. No contract with the phone or the watch. The phone I'm paying in installments, but the watch was a flat $50 (no installment) with no contract. I'm thinking about cancelling my LTE service for my watch. Don't find it useful, since I always carry my phone and watch.
Just ordered one. The Samsung S3 Frontier is still FREE at AT&T if you just ASK. They waived the activation fee of $45. There's a 2yr contract and you pay $10 for the line that comes with a 1gb of data.
Rather than order direct from Verizon, I preordered the Verizon variant from Best Buy for the $50 off and geek squad protection. As there isn't a thread already started, and typically the shipping and receiving dates are sometimes different from the carriers, can we get a waiting room/order progress thread for Best Buy orders going? (Or is this now considered it)
Ordered this morning around 4:30, Orchid Gray, S8, expected 4/21
I was considering getting it either directly from AT&T or elsewhere, but went with Best Buy for the exact same reason you did -- to save up to $100 on the device, haha.
Ordered the S8 in Orchid Gray last night in-store, and expected on 4/21. The guy who helped me with the pre-order said that they'd call/e-mail me once the device arrived to the store. Anyone that pre-orders will get priority to those who simply walk in at launch, which is why they contact you, so you can pick it up ASAP.

Oddly Best Buy has the S8 retail price at 819.99 and Verizon list it at 720.00. But the monthly payments purchasing at Best Buy is 27.91, which is 2.09 less than Verizon's 30.00 monthly charge. Why does Best Buy list the phone a hundred dollars more retail than Verizon? I think maybe it has something to do with Geek Squad coverage. The service charge for phones over 800.00 is 199.99 and it's 149.99 for phones under 800.00.

Ordered mine for verizon from bestbuy. After I confirmed my verizon info it took the price of the S8 down from 27.91 a month to 23.91 a month stating some change from verizon. Probably a glitch but hopefully it holds true.
Any idea when best Buy is shipping? Seems like everywhere else will get it early incl Verizon direct now. Bummer...
When I ordered at my local bestbuy store the rep told me that last year they had galaxy s7s in stock for a week or 2 before release and word didnt come down to release them until the day of (which was a week early and a surprise to staff etc...according to him) so I'm sure we won't hear a word until at least Monday. Unless someone decides to call and harass customer service lol

Again that's dumb. If you purchased the product and it's in stock they should let you have it.
