Samsung Pay Working on Verizon Note 5!!! - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note5

My brother just got Samsung Pay working on his Verizon Galaxy Note 5!!! Check out the video, where he explains how he did it.
https://youtu.be/_A4r6CDAwUQ

It looks like they unlocked Samsung Wallet on the latest OTA. I was going to post documentation when someone posted about the new OTA but I was too lazy to upload the images online and crap from my phone. I'm sure if I look now someone posted it

I'm stuck on activation pending. Even though my card yes been activated.

Had to sideload the apk and framework, but it's up and running somewhat. Now just have to find a card that's compatible with it.

Did you get past this?

According to samsung, this is why it's not activated on their end. They couldn't even see my card. They also suggested that even if the card did get pass this point it would probably fail when trying to actually use samsung pay due to verizon not supporting it.
Also the framework can not be uninstalled.

We are getting screwed!! Samsung is giving away free cases or wireless charger for those who sign up for Samsung pay.....

I love how these 2 come in here all excited that they got it working, yet they don't even have it working on their device. Dopes. Next time you say you have something working it should actually be working and you should have it working. I work for Verizon, I would like to be clear that on the latest update, samsung pay features were unlocked from the device. Verizon does not "officially support samsung pay" but it is compatible with our phones.
---------- Post added at 12:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:31 AM ----------
Now it is up to samsung to allow verizon phones without an official partnership. Verizon has unlocked the necessary functions that were previously locked.

According to the video in the OP, that guy has subscribers who have paid at Walmart and gas stations. I'd sure like to see a video

I just side loaded it all went well and it works but my card won't activate, have the update and used american express. Got the email from Samsung and all and says my device isn't supported when attempting to do the free wireless puck.

Card has to activate to qualify

I have an AmEx Blue cash and get to validating card info...then agree to all...then always, "registration failed." My fathers american express said it wasnt supported either (on a AT&T Note 5. his citi visa worked)

Ok, hold the boat. You guys are seriously typing your bank card info into an apk you downloaded from some guys Google Drive?
No offense to anyone, and I'm sure it isn't hacked. But REALLY!??

I am told to say this:
Verizon is examining Samsung pay right now. We want to make sure that our customers have the latest technology but we also want to make sure it is safe and secure.

Here is the talk going around the office:
Verizon required Samsung to block access to the features that makes Samsung pay work. The latest update that black was removed because negotiations with Samsung led Verizon to agree in opening the device up before the official release in case an agreement was made . At this time we are now able to install the Samsung Pay framework, and the phone will automatically give it special permissions to access elements of the phone (Possible root exploit???). But Verizon and Samsung did not come to an agreement to support Samsung pay, and most likely will not. Samsung likely would like a department dedicated to mobile payments and trained employees to assist with problems, Verizon is not willing to do this for a competitor to their current agreement with Android Pay. It is now up to Samsung to officially support Samsung Pay without Verizon's agreement. In theory if we made a modded APK that tricked Samsung into thinking we are on another device that is supported our cards would activate.

I love how at&t, tmo, sprint... All are OK with Samsung pay (legit fears or $$ or whatever). Yet, Verizon thinks they're smarter and sees it's not safe when no body else does, or thinks they can make money off not having it, when nobody else does or I have no idea. At&t is huge, the original iPhone love child, yet they seem to be on with this. Verizon just doesn't like to do things bc of any monetary advantage withholding it. They blocked GPS for heaven's sake when it was just starting. Who blocks GPS?!?

Same issues got my citi card added called citi they say it's activated. Have the activated email but it still shows verify in Samsung pay. I tried many different ways one time I got it to show activated but pending but that sat there forever so I'm giving up

I downloaded/installed Samsung Pay and its framework early yesterday (Sept 28), but didn't get around to launching it like everyone else. When I woke up this morning at 6am, I noticed that the OTA security update finally decided to rear its ugly head as a notification. I postponed the update until 5pm. After making a few runs, I finally made it back home.
Free of distractions, and with Samsung Pay being a hot topic on the tech sites I frequent, I decided to give it a shot. As soon as I launch the app, I'm greeted with the following message.

What happens after tapping "OK"? Could this be a software up from Samsung? Nope, as you may have guessed. Verizon has made it so that launching Samsung Pay now forces the official OTA from them.
Upon receiving the update from VZW, Samsung pay will stop functioning altogether. At least, that's what's being reported by the guy who made the comment below.

[Q] Has anyone got Google Wallet (with NFC) working on Droid Ultra/Maxx

I am thinking about finally upgrading to the Droid Maxx, however, I do NOT want to be locked in for 2 years with a phone that Verizon is blocking Google Wallet on. I see that somebody has already gotten the phone rooted, which is awesome work, :good: but I was wondering if any of you have gotten Google Wallet to both install, and work and make purchases with the NFC on the Droid Ultra, or Maxx?
Thanks in advance for any info

If you would please let us know how it works!
Both, does the app function normally when you open it, and secondly does it allow you to make purchases using the phone's NFC.
One quick note. I have a rooted Nexus 7 tablet, and for me the Google Wallet app says at the top "Unsupported device. Learn More", however it still works great and allows me to use the NFC on my Nexus 7. So if it does say that for you, please try it anyhow, because it will probably still work.
Thanks again for the info!
I have gotten it to install, and loaded my CC information onto wallet. I have yet to try it for an actual purchase. If I remember after I do I'll let you know. Problem is NFC registers are few and far between where I am, wish they would make more I have been using NFC in my CC for years now. People are like "what?" when I just plop my whole wallet on the reader and it mysteriously pays for my goods lol. Doing it with my phone for those who don't know will be that much better.

I don't know if this helps any, but where I live, the only places that have NFC is Rite Aid. Jack-In-The-Box HAD NFC for a VERY short time but they did such a bad job at implementing it, they failed and ripped them out
So around here Rite Aid is the only place who has it. Although I hear in other areas home depot might have it too.
Even if you don't make a purchase, you might try opening the app and try selecting a card. Just to see if it throws an error without having to go all the way to the store. If it works properly, when you look at the list of cards, the one you select should display a green checkmark and next to it, it will say "Selected card". Of course, I would still like to know if you can successfully make a purchase in the store as well, that would be the best test.
Google Wallet the app will work since Google recently updated it to work on any Android phone; however the NFC purchasing won't work and never will on basically any phone because Google's given up. Most new phones including the maxx lack a secure element so they aren't capable of storing or transmitting sensitive financial information. At this point it's a hardware issue in addition to Verizon's block. You can get a SIM card with a secure element instead but Verizon would only give you one if you're in an ISIS market.

You know, you're probably right, however, I'd still like to be thorough and see what happens if people try it. Regarding the whole "secure element", I could care less if the dang thing had one. If my info is stored on my phone, BIG DEAL, if it gets stolen, I can just go on Android Device Manager and wipe it anyhow. I really wish they'd get over the whole secure element thing and make it only require NFC, like it SHOULD, or at least figure out a way to make it compatible with all phones. (Sorry, but I'm EXTREMELY burnt about how Verizon's been blocking us from using Google Wallet)
BTW, interesting fun-fact, the new Moto X phone, works with Google Wallet just fine, but only if you're on Sprint, or US Cellular. Verizon, as usual, wont allow it on their network because they don't want it to compete with their ISIS junk. :-\
Also, in case anybody's interested:

https://support.google.com/wallet/answer/1347934?hl=en
and lastly:

So, to recap, please let me know if any of you have tried it. I'd still like to know if maybe it'd work even without the secure element. :-\

Would you mind seeing if Google Wallet will somehow utilize your "secure element" and allow you to use "tap to pay"?
If you open the Google Wallet app, at the top it should say something like "Change tap and pay settings". I believe on devices without secure elements, it just doesn't show that top card showing your balance and card, it just shows transactions and possibly the starting tips if you've never opened it.
I've included a picture of how it "SHOULD" look if it's working properly. This picture was taken from a Nexus 7 (not the new 2013 version, the old version)
Thanks!

well I know that, I even linked that same link already, but have YOU tried it?... :-\
For starters, it even says on that page that the Moto X for both sprint and US Cellular support it (on the google page). Now AKAIK, the Moto X is IDENTICAL to the Ultra/Maxx, other than screen size and storage space. I'm just asking if someone, somewhere will try installing Google Wallet, and just see if it works. See if it lets you select a card, and see if it lets you do that, see if it lets you "tap to pay" at something like a rite-ade or something. If somebody would just try that I would love to know if it would work.
Please somebody just take a minute and give it a shot :victory:

No it doesn't work, that's why I set up ISIS with my AMEX card. Google wallet on Verizon devices is nothing more than a history of your purchases using Google Wallet.

Sorry, I misunderstood... :silly: I do have the app installed and it does not give me an option for payments.
There are numerous places where the SE can be located. Google Wallet only supports a SE on the NFC chip itself. Verizon is requiring all phones with NFC to only allow SE on the SIM so that 1) they can control it and 2) it's easily replaceable if you bork it (as I did on my GNex along with so many other people).
Isis, being designed by Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, is likely going to be the only app allowed access to the SE on the SIM.
In other words, Google Wallet for making payments at supported terminals will not work on any new devices through Verizon.
ISIS wouldnt be bad if it supported more than 1 chase credit card and 1 american express card. Bull Junk !!!

Have you ever seen THAT many 1 star ratings?!? I don't ever think I've seen an app with that bad of a rating LOL!

with a little bit of this:

Now I'm not saying you all should go and install that by any means, in fact, here's my disclaimer:
It is officially not my fault if you break your phone by installing the above app!
Ok, now that that's over....
I've got a friend with an S3, and he installed the above Google Wallet app from xda, and it works great on his phone, however the thread even says that it's specifically FOR the S3, but I think I'm going to order me a Droid Maxx and test it for myself, either that or I'm going to try and find a way to make it work with the Maxx, one way or another!.
(Yes, I'm sorry, I know I'm very stubborn, my wife tells me that all the time! :silly

I would recommend the wallet installer I'm pretty sure it installs some missing liberarys but that would be Samsung libs but I could be wrong on that. I've done a lot of research on this and posted my finding in the form "The Google Wallet Project". I haven't gotten anything new in a while. And then there is still debate about if we even have a secure element. My vote is we do and Verizon has it disabled via soft ware. In the kernal if I had to guess. It just make sense for Motorola to physically modify the hardware. Samsung doesn't for the Galaxy's that why wallet can be enabled. So right now I'm working on getting a Dev edition maxx. When I score one I will flash the sprint moto x fxz file theoretically if there is a SE the sprint IMG should free it as sprint allows gwallet so if that work then there will at least be hope for unlocked devices

Looks like KitKat might bring Tap and Pay to our Google Wallet.
Improved NFC Payment Support: Host Card Emulation
Yesterday, we mentioned that NFC payment functionality would be extended to devices without NFC Secure Elements. Now, we know how this is possible. Android 4.4 introduces support for Host Card Emulation, whereby standard NFC hardware can emulate ISO/IEC 7816-based smart cards that use the contactless ISO/IEC 14443-4 (ISO-DEP) protocol for transmission. This then makes any device with NFC hardware capable of using the tap-to-pay functionality. That said, not every device will have support. And currently, it looks like only devices with US SIM cards are eligible.

Initial impressions of Samsung Pay

So today I went ahead an opened a Bank of America account so I could try Samsung pay.
Initial setup: Initial setup is a pain, you have to call BoA after you open the account and answer 4 obscure questions from your "credit check".
Usage: I've used the card 3 times now. I've discovered you want to scan your finger print after the machine is waiting for the card. If you scan your fingerprint before the swipe card, you can actually crash the POS machine. So today I crashed a local gasstation POS.
If anyone has any questions, shoot away.

Has anyone else experienced this or can emulate the results?
I have not experienced this. I got my account working yesterday but have had mixed results. It worked using NFC at McDonald's, but I haven't been able to get the MST to work, it failed at Starbucks and a local frozen yogurt place.
I feel like such an idiot when it doesn't work, with the cashier looking at me like "why are you putting your phone next to where I swipe a card?"
I've had mixed results so far. When it works, it works great! I have found that while it may work at some places, there are some lime 7-11 that it doesn't. I get declined at 7-11

I've been using samsung pay at different locations using the MST technology and it all work's just fine. When I say MST I mean places that's don't even have NFC terminals. So far loving Samsung Pay
I use it with the nfc off. Only mst everywhere. I find its has worked everywhere but one of the two 711s I've been to, and the Starbucks I frequent.
It seems when ever I use it where there is no nfc, the cashier is always sooo curious. Prolly deal with apple pay users everyday throwing a fit they don't have the technology yet.
I agree. Sooooo embarrassing when it doesn't work. I also try not to use it where the scanner is on the POS systems behind the counter(like starbucks).

Craigslist Note 5-- Spengate victim

Picked up a T-mo note 5 on CL. Looked great; all features I could think to test were good. IMEI# check out as good mostly., I just didn't think to test the spen detection in the holder. It's broke. Dumbass must have inserted the pen backwards and yanked it out
Anyways I picked up all the tools I need to safely open the note 5 and see what I can do with the broken sensor; figured I'd keep this thread updated with my progress on fixing.

I wouldn't try a store, I would wait a week until tmo updates their system and sees that's the phone you hit and then call 611 and tell them the problem with NO mention of where you got the phone unless they ask and even then you can just say it was a present or something.
They don't like it when you don't buy phone off them and use Craigslist instead.
Like ThC23 recommended, I called 611 and they asked me when I bought the device, and I just said "IDK it was a gift." they asked me when the problem started and I said "IDK, it just never worked"
Tmo connected me to Samsung and they gave me an RMA number. I'm sending them my note 5.
Thanks for all your help guys. It's kinda a pitty though, I was looking fwd to taking it apart a bit lol.
Glad I didn't put my Note 4 on sale just yet. Looks like I'll be using it again for a few days.
So samsung didn't do anything to fix it, and they are just mailing it back to me. Looks like the A-hole who sold it to me lied (surprise surprise) the IMEI number has been changed, so samsung won't replace it.
So I'll be going back with my original plan of trying to fix it myself. I wish I could find that broken plastic lever that must have broken, online. but who knows. Maybe it's not working for another reason. There is at least one video where the guy takes Note 5 apart and shows us where it broke, but it just happens to work when he puts it back together, even though he didn't rly do anything to it besides remove the broken of bit off plastic that was preventing the sensor from moving.
As sad as this is, it just reminds us that buying off CL is not always a good idea. I feel for you. ?

My friend bought an S6 for $500 on CL. Seller reported it as stolen, IMEI was blacklisted. She had to pay $70 for a new IMEI.

I used to sell on Craigslist, but I wouldn't do anything unless it was in place that had a police substation.

Yea you can't take that to a T-mobile store ...you may have to contact Samsung. ..they won't entertain a phone not purchased at a store or online through T-mobile

Any progress buddy ?
yeah it's still taken apart cause my soldering iron is not meant for these tiny tiny components, but I have not given up. I actually got the spen detection working for a few minutes and it quit working, so I'm on the right track I just need to get better at the soldering. maybe I should stop by radio shack.
as for that plug I broke, i don't know what it does. I did a half assed soldering job and I got the note 5 back together to see what is not working and all I see is the lights on the front buttons don't light up. If that's all that that blue cable does I might not care...
does anyone know what this blue cable does?
https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/wMyYTEoFThUUNkHD.huge
it's on the bottom right of the image
Update: Spen detection sensor fixed!! hopefully it stays fixed this time.
Now I want to get that blue cable figured out. I suppose I could just quit and not have my front buttons light up. not much of a loss there.
--looks like its the gps cable.
-- no def not the GPS cable. GPS works fine.
-- finger print sensor gives an error. I bet it's just power going to the front buttons. weird thing is the lights on the buttons flickers with a vibration once when the phone boots up/.

problems setting up Samsung Pay Beta

Anyone else having these problems? I got the Samsung Pay beta link in my Gear app, it installed the app on the watch (bluetooth classic) and on my Note 4 phone, but when I try to get it to work, I've run into a wall: on the phone side, after I enter my credit card info, after it tries to confirm it, I get a notification saying "Gear not responding. Try again." (And trying again does not work.)
On the watch side, if I long press the back key to initiate Samsung Pay, I dial through the set of instructions and press the "Start using Samsung Pay now" arrow on the last screen, I get a screen saying "Access denied. An unauthorized modification has been detected. Samsung Pay Gear will be initialized."
I've done soft and hard resets, deleted and reinstalled the Gear app on the phone, no change. And I wasted a couple of hours with various branches of Samsung's support folks, mostly explaining to them stuff I knew that they didn't. Any help would be appreciated, especially if you've tried and succeeded in getting Samsung Pay Gear to work with a Note 4 phone. Thanks all.
I hit reset on the Samsung pay beta screen within the gear app. That cleared the settings and now it works

haven't done the above yet, but i installed 2 credit cards fine, then a few hrs later i tried a couple more, multiple error messages from, communication error with gear device to application failed. called samsung they don't know what to do. plus it seems my messages aren't getting too me like they used to.
Also, when i go to the gear part on the phone where you can rearrange the applications and delete them, they have 2 samsung pay apps showing, and neither one says beta after it. i think they have major bugs and were just going to wait for an update. sure is nice being able to pay with my watch with the cc's i have on. , now ill use samsung pay.

I had the same problem with loading 2 cards then later on errors. The reset worked. Also Samsung pay isn't like the other apps we load. It has a connection to the firmware loaded on the watch

Thanks for the responses. The reset in the Samsung Pay beta screen did not help for me, but it will probably help for someone. Are either of you using a Note 4, by any chance? If so, what firmware are you on on the watch? (I'm in the NE US, and the latest firmware update hasn't rolled out here yet.)
So nobody else has seen this?:

I have a S7 edge. my watch stopped transmitting the nfc signal with the 2 cards that are loaded. i then reset it and then was able to put the 2 cards on and is working. i did notice that you need to have the info from the card appear EXACTLY like it appears on the credit card. i have a middle initial on one and not on another. when the card with shouldn't have had a middle initial was fixed, it worked fine.
The only cards i can't get to work are the ones from wells fargo. it gets to the point were wells fargo has you sign the agreement then won't go to the next step, just gives me an error and to try again. I've tried everything i can think of and those Wells Fargo cards just wont work. they work great on the phone just not on the watch.
i also noticed when i get into the gear area where you can rearrange the apps on the watch, you can also delete the application, its has samsung pay listed twice and it doesn't say beta.
ideas?

Well, if you're getting the same "access denied" screen with your S7 Edge then I guess it's not simply that I'm on a Note 4. Have you been able to try another phone to see if there's something about the phone that's causing the problem?

It's the only phone I have at the moment. Spoke with Samsung pay support and he gave me the normal run around about resetting it and all that. Which I already did before I called. Then he stated maybe because I didn't have the update that is supposedly out. Which my watch still didn't get.

yes, both Wells fargo are on the list. They work great on the phone, just can't get the watch to take them. it goes to wells fargo but the other cards they sent a sms code to validate it but got the error message during that point.
also, having samsung pay show up twice in my gear settings makes me wonder, the place where you can delete apps on the watch. doesn't say beta either just samsung pay. I've sent in multiple bug emails so hopefully they can fix it.

Yeah my experience is that Samsung Support in general is a black hole of polite cliches. I'm trying to get this case bumped to another level via email, so far with no success. (And while it's possible that the firmware update would fix it -- I haven't gotten it yet either -- there are clearly folks who've got SP working without the update. So there's some kind of gremlin somewhere.

How to get Samsung Pay
Offtopic: How do you get Samsung Pay on the smartwatch? I know it is in beta, but where can i find the app?
I have a Galaxy Alpha, Samsung Pay is not supported yet on this smartphone, does that mean i won't be able to use my gear to pay?
Kind regards!

If your phone and location -- it's U.S. only, afaik -- are eligible for the SP beta, when you run the Gear manager on your phone, there will be a "Samsung Pay Beta" option on the first screen. (Make sure your Gear manager app is the latest version available.)

FWIW, I finally got the S2 firmware update, and it did not solve the "Access Denied" on watch/"Your Gear is not responding" on phone errors. A week ago, Samsung support finally emailed me that "We have escalated this issue to our appropriate department for further review and consideration." But I have heard nothing since. Let's hope somebody's working on it.

Can I ask when you bought your watch?
Trying to chase down a possible cause of this problem: I noticed over on Samsung's website under registered devices that they think I purchased the watch in Jan. '16, when I actually bought it in Oct. '15. Someone over on the Samsung community forum with the same "access denied" bug has a similar confusion about purchase dates, who also bought just after it was released. I'm wondering if the discrepancies might be making the security system for Pay on the watch freak out.

EDIT 2: Now that I have more posts I can make it an actual link horray!! But ya, not like it matters, here we are March 6th with no Nougat from Verizon. A few people have said they heard March 20th as the release date so...we can only hope.

EDIT: So I downloaded the GIF and watched it on my media player. I was able to pause it at the System Updates part. Seems legit
Maybe somebody could figure out how to leak it like they did the AT&T version. I'm running it on a spare S7e. It sure is pretty. Reminds me of my Note 7, may it rest in peace.

Give it another month. :good:
I dont want to wait another month. Samsung took my note 7, told me to get a s7e and it would be updated to be nearlt as good within a month or so. Horse hockey. We are way over due for a promise they made to consumers they screwed over.
And enough of this carrier approval crap. Push the dam update out and own up to any problems that arise.
I've still got my Note 7 - it was hotlined once, I got VZ to take the hotline off. Went several days into February and no hotline, but I found a mint S7E for a great price so I bought it and put my N7 sim in the S7E. Been using that for a week now. My N7 is still the superior device for several reasons. Screen size, better curves (steeper) on the edge display, better display overall (brighter, whiter) and the S7E display also has more "curve" over the whole thing while the N7 is flat. Obviously 64GB internal on the N7 is superior. The AOD on the S7E sucks - it really, really needs the N7 AOD with 3rd party notifications. And finally Grace UI is nicer. I use Nova launcher prime, but the Grace settings and quick settings is still nicer. And lastly, the battery life on the S7E is worse. I have no idea why - it has a smaller display and bigger battery. All that being said - once the S7E gets Nougat it will help. But that'll be pretty close to when the S8+ will be out, and I will likely be getting that anyway. I really hope Nougat for the VZ S7E is out soon. Like tomorrow. The pics the OP linked look legit, so let's hope VZ gets us Nougat before March. I wouldn't count on it though.

I think its ironic an "unlocked" model takes longer to receive updates directly form the MFG. This make no sense at all.
Sprint also released the Nougat firmware today! Verizon will now officially be the last.
I usually don't care too much for OS updates - they are almost always over rated. However since Grace UI and the improved AOD come with this Nougat update, it is one OS updated that is very much needed. Verizon is literally always the last carrier to roll out OTA's. It simply shows they DGAF about their customers. And that they want to bake in more bloatware than other carriers. Both are selfish reasons on Verizon's part for rolling out OTA's far slower than other carriers.

I agree, if I didn't get a discount through my work and also have good reception in most places including my home, I would have ditched Verizon. I was considering using Ting but after I added up a 3 device plan with the amount of texting that my wife does it ends up being within $10. Even project Fi was about the same difference.
someone should tweet Verizon with this update code that the guy gave in the gif and pretend they have Nougat on a test device and say you will release the rom if they don't release it world wide soon or at least give an eta lol.
This has to be fake. Verizon customer service just told me that we weren't getting the update at all andI could consider the Pixel XL, lol. Hopefully they were misinformed

Why not just consider another provider? I know I'm leaving as soon as I get rid of this phone and tablet I've got thru them.
I know exactly when they will release it. The day before I can get my hands on an S8. Same thing every year.
