Getting the magnetic lock/unlock work with a mod? - General Questions and Answers

I recently bought an e-reader and I bought som cases from ebay however the magnetic unlock and lock function of the device doesn't seem to work. My friend got an Kobo Aura H20 and the function works just fine there. There is a magnet on the case and when you close it, then device locks. When you open it the device unlocks automaticly. I didn't think about it when I bought the cases, thought that all that came with magnets should work.
However I wonder if it's possible to do some kind of mod to make to the case so the device react to the magnet anyway?
Tablet is Kobo aura and the case is these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/kwmobile-LE...04473178?var=590598976171&hash=item43df05445a

Is magnetic clip case bad?

I'd heard before with the MT3G that, because of the compass, a magnetic case is bad to use with the phone. Not sure what amount of truth there was to that statement, but I would assume if it were true that would be the case with the N1 as well.
Can anyone smarter than me let me know? I've found a really nice vertical case but it uses a magnetic clip. Curious if It will mess up my compass/phone.
i usually keep magnets away from any electronics...but thats just me

Same here. Don't use magnetic belt clips on your phone. Even tho there is no know issue of the cases doing any damages to the phone its not recommended you use one.
I use a holster with a magnetic clip, have had no problems thus far.
I wouldnt trust anything magnetic.
You might be perfectly fine with it, but there's reason to believe you also might not be. If not for fear that it could create some irreversible hardware problem, it could very well mess with the software too; Droid's car dock uses a regular magnet to switch the phone to car mode. Google hasn't released the N1 car dock yet, but the phone has unknown docking sensors on the bottom that look like magnets to me. If the magnet on your clip is unintentionally switching your phone in and out of car mode all day, you probably wont be very happy. I know I wouldn't.
I know it doesnt have a clip or anything but I freaking love the case the N1 came with. Its perfect for me and its all I need.
I know that problem, my cousin has a droid and it keeps switching to car mode everytime he puts it in his magnetic holster. My nexus one has never done that once. I beleive the dock connector on the nexus one does not work magnetically but rather electrically.

That's actually good information to know, thanks. I was quite concerned when I heard about Droid's magnet issues and thought it would be the same for N1. Since Google hasn't released any accessories yet as they promised I naturally assumed N1 would function similarly in a dock. Good to know you've had no issues.

Functionable leather case

Hi guys,
I'm not big on gel cases and such. If I'm taking my phone out of my pocket for prolonged use, I'm happy to remove it from a leather case and use the phone in all the glory it was intended. Having said that, I would like to keep the phone protected/clean while in my pocket or bag and so think a leather case would suit me best, especially since it would cover the screen.
What I want to know is, does anyone know of a leather case that opens, allows me to touch and use the screen fully and also, if I need to, pop the hinge and bash out a text or two on the keyboard while it's still in the case?
I'm kinda thinking something like this...

... but where you can also swing the hinge open and use the keyboard, without having to completely remove the phone from the case.
Thanks guys.
Bumping this in case anyone's come across anything since I originally posted.

Another vote for the G1 case . You can even charge the G2 while its in the G1 case . The charging port on the G2 is very accessible while still being fully protected .

HTC Desire HD - Brodit Active Holder

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place so mods please move or lock if inappropriate.
I have a one week old Brodit HTC Desire Active holder for sale on eBAY. I've changed the phone so no longer need it.
Stuck it on a buyitnow for £25. Purchased from mobilefun.co.uk for £35.
Thought someone might be interested in picking one up cheaper than elsewhere - it's as good as new (just don't have the fixing leaflet anymore)

Thanks for the feedback. Think something weird happened to the formatting of the url. I've edited the original post. Should work ok now.
cheers fella
now to get my proclip, just bought and paid topic can be locked now.
i presume its in good condition with it only being a week old
cheers again
Hi,
Thanks. Just replied to you through eBay.
Yes it's in as good as new condition. The only thing missing is the plastic bag it came in and the little leaflet which basically says "Screw these four screws in!"
Phone as only been in in two or three times. Just enough to loosen it up a tiny bit
Oh and I should point out that it can supply enough juice to charge properly whilst using as a Sat Nav with bluetooth turned on.
Enjoy..
just to say i got it and my review so far is as follows
beautiful fit
i have an invisible all over cover on, the phone fits with a little shove, but leaves the sim card cover behind when removing it
if it doesn't ease off with time and use i will file a smidge off
but overall im happy and it will fit with an invisible shield on
Does this car kit set 'Car Mode' when you insert the phone? I know the official adapter does.
No, the brodit holder does not trigger the car panel. Also, I think it is pretty tight on the phone. My sim cover slips down when I remove the phone from the holder, and it was driving me nuts until I sandpapered the sides.
Had one in the past for my HD2 and bought it another for the desire hd.
I personally RECOMMEND using the passive holder and buy a separate car charger. It worths because it's more handy for acessories and other cell phones. I had both, the active and the passive, and I find the passive more versatile.
the tight fit i had at the start is getting better, even with my zshield
the power plug needs guiding in sometimes, especially when i plug in my aux socket, i am going to look into a way of fixing the aux jack so it clips in when pushed down

Homemade Gameklip for i9000?

If you haven't heard already, the Gameklip is simply a piece of plastic that clips onto a PS3 controller and allows an android phone to be attached, merging the 2 devices together.
Unfortunately the creator doesn't sell a version for the i9000.
Therefore my idea is make my own. I can use a hard barely there case that's currently collecting dust as the phone holder. The only problem is attaching the phone case to the controller securely.
Anyone have any ideas?
Gameklip seems to be manufactured industrially so unless you have the resources i don't think you can make one yourself. Unless of course you're talking about a quick dirty solution. Let us know how it goes though
Yes a quick solution which is reasonably sturdy hopefully. I'm still at a loss on how to attach the phone case to the controller though.

Folio Keyboard: not waking screen or putting to sleep

Hi All, I purchased a used Folio keyboard recently, and all is well, except it doesn't put the screen to sleep or wake it. My son has same set up direct from Google, and we have tested his tablet and folio and proved that its my keyboard. (I also have cheapo cover that puts my N9 to sleep and wakes it)
As it looks like the seller may not refund, does anyone know where the magnets are located. I have tried to compare the two keyboards, but both appear to have exactly same configuration the best I can test. I am wondering that it may be a polarity. (straws and clinging!)
Cheers in advance.
Bob
