Why won't my phone update through OTA? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Silly question... but why won't my phone update to newest CM through OTA? ( Every time my phone goes to recovery, it wont start the update process. )
As far as I know it's stock CM, rooted, but I have TWRP recovery.
I have to install the latest CM update through flashable zip file as a workaround. but if I want to sell my phone, I don't think most people know how to do that.

I believe you need the stock recovery for that to work.

Hm... do you know where I can download the stock ( CM ) recovery?

You would not get the OTA when it comes through. But you can flash it using CWM recovery.

error 7 - but with CWM recovery

Hi,
I have nexus s 9023 and trying to manually install JB, I get the annoying error 7 (apply_patch_check).
I have STOCK 4.0.4 but the bootloader is unlocked, i have root and a different kernel.
I read a lot of threads about this problem but I understood that having the CWM recovery should prevent the problem,
but unfortunatly I still get it.
Does anybody knows what should I do in order to fix this and get the JB update?
Thanks!

[Q] Help!! Cant Update OTA 4.2.2 for my One XL !!

I've been running Stock Rom (4.1.1) with Bullet_proof_kernel and TWRP (instead of stock kernel and stock recovery),Recently I was notified on an update to 4.2.2 via OTA. And when I was asked for installing the update package after downloading (424 MB),it simply goes into TWRP,and nothing happens. I tried flashing it through twrp but it doesn't work(I get some errors on it). What if,I flash Stock kernel and stock recovery and then try updating it??If that's possible,Can anyone provide me with a link for downloading them? It would also be great if you suggest an alternate way to update it to 4.2.2 [stock].
Thanks in advance!!
As I've told at least 3 other people in the last couple days: OTAs require stock recovery to install.
Also, I think your bootloader will need to be relocked if you are S-on.
If you are already bootloader unlocked and custom recovery, just install one of the stock (or stockish) Sense 5 ROMs posted in Development. Flash like any other custom ROM.

What version of TWRP?
Going back to stock recovery has been asked so many times, I'm not going to bother answering. Try reading or doing a search.

Its been discussed here countless times that TWRP 2.5.0.0 is buggy, and many ROMs will not install with it. Update to 2.6.0.0.
This is probably your main issue. Returning to stock recovery is a poor remedy.

Try downloading GooManager from the Play Market, and update TWRP that way.
I've tried CWM before, but only the official version, not Philz, so I can't comment on that.

Look in the TWRP thread, TWRP has an option to flash OTA`s and keep root. Don`t know if it also applies for the Moto G yet. You can receive an OTA but you can`t install it directly when you have a custom recovery installed.

Allright. And if i alrdy flashed CWM, can i just "overflash" it with a TRMP image or any other Stock Recovery image via fastboot?

Look in the CWM thread too, maybe it has the OTA flashing option too. Yes, you can overwrite a custom recovery with a new custom recovery but also in cmd type: fastboot erase cache after you flash a new recovery.

Well i haven`t rooted my Moto G myself, but if the OTA flash option is not available in CWM/TWRP you have to flash a stock image to get the OTA or flash a KK based custom rom.

Well. So i just have to extract a Stock Recovery Image from an 4.3 Stock Rom. Flash it via fastboot and then erase cache and im fine?
Can i stay on the Infusion Rom too?

No, OTA`s can only be installed on a stock rom, kernel and recovery. If anything is altered or vital system components deleted the OTA will not install.

4.4.2 just uploaded here.

Unable to update to 12.1

So today I saw that the 12.1 update is downloaded and asking me to install it. But, when I do try installing it the screen is stuck at the Cyanogen Recovery.
The usual options in recovery screen are displayed, why isn't the OS updating?
FYI - My OPO is rooted and also has TWRP recovery installed. I also tried disabling the Update Cyanogen Recovery option but the same option.
Any assistance would be great

You can't flash the OTA with TWRP recovery. You can either flash the stock recovery and then install the OTA, or you can download the full ROM zip and flash that with TWRP.

Sorry, a little question (and sorry to the OP)
Ive try to install the ota manually (i was rooted with twrp) flashing back the cm recovery, but it doesnt work still.
So ive flash the twrp 2.8.6 (for the baseband not installing prolems) and downloaded the full rom file, flashed in twrp without any wipes... Its all ok now, should i have problems with this method?
The baseband is 241,is correct?
Thx for helping

You don't need to be a techie to know that the updates must be taken in order. Go to Settings>About Phone, take screenshots of the info there and post here so I can see please.
