S6 Bricked - Smart Switch Serial Number issue - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My son attempted to root his S6 with Odin and failed. His phone is SM-G920R7 (nTelos) and there are no compatible roms - but that didn't stop him from trying. So we are got the "An error has occurred updating the device software. Use the Emergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software." So, downloaded that, went to the software update and initialization section to try to reinstall the factory software. It takes the Model number (above), but then asks for the serial number. I've tried both IMEI# on the back and any other numbers I can come up with. No luck.
I called the carrier and Samsung and each of them told me to call the other. Does anyone know what "serial number" (technically s/n: is the prompt) they want? Thanks.
It seems at this point that the software is only trying to validate that the serial number exists - the phone is not connected to the computer. But entering any of the numbers mentioned above only lead to an error stating the serial number is not valid.
Any help would be great. Thanks

First forum post, having the same issue. Very weird... I bought my phone at a Bell corporate store, so no illegal issues there or anything. Very confused!

Yes serial number is s/n. It's written on back of your phone check it.

The s/n is written on the back of the phone

Anyone figure this out? Cannot get Smart Switch to accept my s/n. Thanks.

Same problem here. Nothing says serial number on my box, in my phone, or on the back. Only says IMEI which does not work in Smart Switch.

Having the same issue with my S7 (SM-G930FD). I've definitely got the correct serial number as I've registered the device on Samsung's website and I got the serial number from there.
I've managed to flash it again by getting back to the screen where it tells me to intialise the device using Smartswitch then I've just used Odin to reinstall the firmware again. Have had to wipe everything but at least I've got my device back. (The initialisation screen appears to be a different screen for the download mode)

"Custom Binary blocked by FRP lock" & Odin/PC won't recognize the device
Okay so,
My phone has been rooted for a year, I disabled OEM Unlock by accident, my antivirus was always telling me its unsecure with this feature on and to 'click here' to disable it.. I forgot how important this was to have enabled while rooted and ended disabled it and that night rebooting my device.
I get this error when trying to boot my device:
"Custom Binary blocked by FRP lock"
I have the original stock firmware, and Odin and want to reset the phone but when I plug this device in ( while in download mode ) > the windows PC doesn't recognize it (no new device sound or any change in devicemanager) and therefore odin isn't recognizing anything either - - I can grab my other 2nd-device and boot it into download mode, plug it into the same setup and boom > recognized and 'Ready!' Status in odin almost immediately so I don't think it's my PC or the cables -- I don't think 1st-device has usb debugging enabled either and I'm not sure how to proceed ...
any help is much appreciated ...
Try to use Smart Switch (from Samsung website), which also has the latest drivers, to recover your phone. (Google "how to recover with smart switch")
Alright,
Forgot to mention I tried Samsung Kies but cannot find the serial number on the device, I'll give Smart Switch a try this evening on my other PC and report back... hopefully that PC recognizes it, my tablet connects to this laptop but not the phone.. could USB debugging being disable cause this?
How close to bricked is this?
I'm such a fool!
Thanks for the feedback so far..
Hi boot tar flash odin frp lock of after stock rom flash
I went through this a few weeks back. I found my serial number (was a sticker originally on back of phone) and used smart switch to recover firmware. Then enabled developer options, oem unlock, flash TWRP thru ODIN etc etc.
So if I find the serial number, I save it .. good to know, thanks!

Hey man, im having the exact same issue with my S7 edge.
So I got my IMEI number, and with my number I went to imei. info / and I got my serial number through a warranty check through the site, you have to register to do it.
I used Smart Switch and I get an error when trying to use the emergency recovery "Model number cannot be initialized"
I'm also getting the error on my PC when trying to connect my device to odin saying that "USB device cannot recognize" and with that I cannot flash the stock firmware on the device.
So if you have gotten any solution to the FRP lock please let me know.
Serial number is engraved on back cover next to the imei number -,- @samuraichick0n about "Model number cannot be initialized" try to write it in diffrent forms eg. G935f or SM-G935f uppercase or lowercase.

PC doesnt want to recognize my device, so Odin doesn't pick it up.
Try it with other usb cable. What is given together with the charger is incongruent, it happened to me, the same problem. (galaxy s6, s7)
And you need the newest odin. Excuse me my crappy English.

Yes, I've tried a different PC - "USB Device Malfunctioned /Device cannot be recognized"
Also a PSA: Smart Switch removed the recovery option for phones, you are ONLY able to get a recovery with the code from a previous backup.

Hello, after exhausting all options I had to take the device to Samsung themselves - eventually they had to replace the motherboard on the phone to fix it.
So check if your phone is under warranty and take it in.
I fixed this when I first rooted by flashing the stock bootloader, firmware etc everything through odin
Thanks

Samsung S2 cannot access it - Locked by last user.

Hi,
I sold a samsung S2 tablet on ebay but the buyer returned it as wasn't happy with it.
They returned it after factory resetting it.
But when I turn the tablet it on, it asks for my wifi, i connect it, it then asks to accept user agreement, which I do.
Then It appears to be locked and I need the linked email address/name or number to access it. It will not boot into android at all.
I have found the buyers number off ebay and inserted it on the tablet, it now says its sent a code to their number.
The person that returned it however appears to be reluctant to give me this code which i can understand as for all they know I could be doing some king of hack into their email or something.
How can I solve this problem? Any ideas? If they give me this code how do I then remove their account from this tablet?
search how to frp unlock the specific model on google.like frp unlock samsung s2
Could someone PLEASE advise.......
I do not want to go through FRP unlocking it as I've watched videos and it is very complicated and requires additional items that I don't have.
The BUYER from ebay is being cooperative in responses and wants to help.
I have request the code on the tablet to the buyers phone number. They have received a text message with the code on that will enable me to access the tablet.
The buyer is reluctant to give me the code as they think I will have access to all her information, google, email..etc. Can anyone please confirm whether that is true or not? they originally factory reset the tablet before sending it to me, so I am under the assumption that is it completely wiped.
Can anyone confirm? there isn't much information about this online.
Also, can they remotely unlock it? ie.. remove the tablet from their google account? or something like that?

Thanks but this method is not possible. Requires USB debugging enabled on the tablet and, as we know, I cannot access the tablets settings menu due to the FRP lock.
Searching led me to combination file method but, again, doesn't work. I get
All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)
In ODIN.
Any other methods?
if ur tablet can get in download mode and flash via odin, find the older firmware of ur device model and flash that file.Other way is called EDL mode which is complicated and i think u cant do it but it will for sure unlock it

It can get into download mode but, no matter what ODIN i use or usb cable, it does not pick up the tablet at all.
I have tried
8 different odin versions
4 different micro usb cables
3 different laptops and a desktop from win 7 to win 10
Every single USB port.
Installing various software likes kies
factory resetting in recovery mode
No matter what I do, I cannot get odin on any OS system to recognise the tab s2. It does not make any noise when I insert it into any of the computers or usb ports.
I am at a complete loss as to what to do.

[HELP] Moto G5 Plus XT1686 boot up failure

Hi
My 3 year old Moto G5 Plus running android 8.1 suddenly restarted today and went into Start up failure. It no longer shows My product or IMEI number. It just shows potter 000000000000000 32GB P3B
Bootloader logs read " Start up failure. Your device didn't start up successfully. Use the Software Repair Assistant on computer to repair your device. Connect your device to your computer to get the Software Repair Assistant" written in red.
I have my IMEI and product numbers saved on my pc, but the LMSA software does not recognise my device to even try to rescue it. I want to retrieve files from my phone before attempting a factory reset.
On using the LMSA, it says "lmsa doesn't match appropriate firmware. you can try to select a firmware manually" but then it has no option to select anything manually. I have my phone previously registered on the software on my PC.
I have not rooted my phone, nor used anything other than stock android. My bootloader is locked. I cannot remember if I had Developer options selected or not, most probably not.
On trying to go to recovery mode it says the same message " Start up failure. Your device didn't start up successfully. Use the Software Repair Assistant on computer to repair your device. Connect your device to your computer to get the Software Repair Assistant"
Please help! I really need to recover my photos and notepad notes. Is there any way? Any software?
Please help! Please!
was this issue resolved
