"Custom Binary blocked by FRP lock" & Odin/PC won't recognize the device - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

"Custom Binary blocked by FRP lock" & Odin/PC won't recognize the device
Okay so,
My phone has been rooted for a year, I disabled OEM Unlock by accident, my antivirus was always telling me its unsecure with this feature on and to 'click here' to disable it.. I forgot how important this was to have enabled while rooted and ended disabled it and that night rebooting my device.
I get this error when trying to boot my device:
"Custom Binary blocked by FRP lock"
I have the original stock firmware, and Odin and want to reset the phone but when I plug this device in ( while in download mode ) > the windows PC doesn't recognize it (no new device sound or any change in devicemanager) and therefore odin isn't recognizing anything either - - I can grab my other 2nd-device and boot it into download mode, plug it into the same setup and boom > recognized and 'Ready!' Status in odin almost immediately so I don't think it's my PC or the cables -- I don't think 1st-device has usb debugging enabled either and I'm not sure how to proceed ...
any help is much appreciated ...

Try to use Smart Switch (from Samsung website), which also has the latest drivers, to recover your phone. (Google "how to recover with smart switch")

Alright,
Forgot to mention I tried Samsung Kies but cannot find the serial number on the device, I'll give Smart Switch a try this evening on my other PC and report back... hopefully that PC recognizes it, my tablet connects to this laptop but not the phone.. could USB debugging being disable cause this?
How close to bricked is this?
I'm such a fool!
Thanks for the feedback so far..

Hi boot tar flash odin frp lock of after stock rom flash

I went through this a few weeks back. I found my serial number (was a sticker originally on back of phone) and used smart switch to recover firmware. Then enabled developer options, oem unlock, flash TWRP thru ODIN etc etc.

So if I find the serial number, I save it .. good to know, thanks!

Hey man, im having the exact same issue with my S7 edge.
So I got my IMEI number, and with my number I went to imei. info / and I got my serial number through a warranty check through the site, you have to register to do it.
I used Smart Switch and I get an error when trying to use the emergency recovery "Model number cannot be initialized"
I'm also getting the error on my PC when trying to connect my device to odin saying that "USB device cannot recognize" and with that I cannot flash the stock firmware on the device.
So if you have gotten any solution to the FRP lock please let me know.

Serial number is engraved on back cover next to the imei number -,- @samuraichick0n about "Model number cannot be initialized" try to write it in diffrent forms eg. G935f or SM-G935f uppercase or lowercase.

PC doesnt want to recognize my device, so Odin doesn't pick it up.

Try it with other usb cable. What is given together with the charger is incongruent, it happened to me, the same problem. (galaxy s6, s7)
And you need the newest odin. Excuse me my crappy English.

Yes, I've tried a different PC - "USB Device Malfunctioned /Device cannot be recognized"
Also a PSA: Smart Switch removed the recovery option for phones, you are ONLY able to get a recovery with the code from a previous backup.

Hello, after exhausting all options I had to take the device to Samsung themselves - eventually they had to replace the motherboard on the phone to fix it.
So check if your phone is under warranty and take it in.

I fixed this when I first rooted by flashing the stock bootloader, firmware etc everything through odin

Thanks

Galaxy s6 stuck at boot? Unable to fix

Hi xda members, im new in here and i was hoping for a bit of help
My phone is galaxy s6 SM-920T

I've had cases where you had to put the phone into download mode THEN open Odin for it to be seen. Maybe try that.
With it in download mode and plugged up open devices and printers and scroll to bottom and see if it shows up. Would be called gadget_serial. Some computers take a while to load the drivers for it as well. You may want to click little popup menu on bottom right of desktop by the time and date and see if it shows it is loading drivers for it. It will not show up until the gadget serial drivers are installed.
Thanks for the help. Nothing worked. It doesnt not recognizes the S6 only my Galaxy Tab 4. Could it be that the usb door wasnt repaired proprely ? Windows doesnt even detect the phone no gadget_serial. Nothing.
Make sure that You're using USB 2.0 not 3.0. My Note 4 worked through usb3.0 without any problem. And S6 doesn't. And if Odin reflash won't fix it. Get pit file and flash it with it.

First thing to try would be flashing stock firmware with Odin.

I recommend Odin 3.10.6

Sounds like DRK may be damaged.
Take the stock OKC firmware and open the archive with 7-zip or winrar and extract the system.img and boot.img.
Download and unzip this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/bsreazoonsw4gwv/tar-Tool_Odin3-v3.07_by_mkh.mourad.zip?dl=0
Copy/paste the system.img and boot.img into the software directory and run the batch file. It will spit out a system.tar.md5 and boot.tar.md5
Flash the system.tar.md5 with Odin as AP then flash the boot.tar.md5 as AP.

If all else fails, just boot your phone into download phone and install Samsung Kies and restore it using that.
You will need the model & serial number of your phone. It will restore the latest stock firmware on your phone for you..

You cant, I suggest using a friend or family member's serial number that has the same model phone.. the serial number is a way of identifying the correct carrier specific rom.
G920TUEU3COK1_G920TXAR3COK1_G920TUEU3COK1_HOME.tar.md5
G920T1UVU3DOI5_G920T1TMB3DOI5_G920T1UVU3DOI5_HOME.tar.md5
Reflash your phone with one of this ROM will help you to make your problem resolved 100%

Is it fixable? Bricked S6 won't boot or accept ROM flashes.

Previously, I've talked about how I bricked my G920T by using an apk to try to root my phone.
Then I tried to do a factory reset with the stock recovery but it wouldn't even go into the stock recovery. So I flashed TWRP and wiped the whole phone including the system partition.
Then I tried to flash a stock 6.0.1 firmware to the phone but doing so did not improve the situation as my phone still won't boot. Even worse, when I power my phone, all I see is the blue LED indicator, no Samsung logo, nothing.
Then I tried to flash a custom ROM like XtreStoLite but that didn't fix anything either.
When I use TWRP or the stock recovery, the error "failed to mount /efs (invalid argument)" comes up on the log. I tried using the ADB method to fix it but my phone would not get recognized by ADB probably because USB debugging isn't on by default.
I cannot shut down the phone without having it charged to a power source then holding down PWR+DOWN VOLUME+HOME until the screen shuts off.
When I enter download mode, I don't see the warning screen, I enter the download mode directly.
It will warm you when you enter download. Or use TWRP and reboot into Download.Once in download flash the ROM using Odin. Get the latest one from SamFirm.
P.S. Next time root using CF Auto Root

It doesn't warn me when I enter download mode, that's one of the problems.
I tried flashing the official ROM using ODIN, it still won't boot because of the efs error.
1) Download the latest SmartSwitch
2) Click on more -> Emergency software recovery and initialization
3) Go into Device initialization, enter your model name, search for it and proceed as advised by the assistant
That should fix everything, otherwise:
1) Download the latest official firmware for your model, the 4-File (or 3-File) Version
2) Use latest ODIN, check repartition in options
3) Select all the files and flash it
If EFS or DRK is corrupted, flashing roms, custom or not won`t help, it can be fixed via repair box maybe (Octoplus/Z3X)
Try to flash CF auto root for your model, if it still won`t boot, then find someone with a box to try to help you remotely or not.
But Smart Switch emergency initialization with phone sn would be the first thing I would try.

Well if you know someone who have a box, it doesn`t have to be remotely.
If not, it is possible to fix it remotely, with help of usb hub (FlexiHub or similar), tunneling (TeamViewer or similar) and box software (you connect phone to your computer, the other guy connects box to his computer, both of you are connected through a gateway to a wonderfull thing called internet, and everybody is happy ) .
Same as on site, just with few more things in between the phone, and the box.

The S/N sticker on the back of the phone is long gone, is there any other way I can find it besides from going into settings because I can't do that?
EDIT: I am able to borrow a friend's serial and got the firmware installed.
The Samsung boot logo is back now, however, the device still won't boot. The efs error is still there but the download mode warning sign came back.
EDIT #2: Okay, I flashed TWRP now and ADB is working once again. Can I utilize this to fix the efs error?

Yes i know you get that msg in kies but you still will be able to flash the orig fw back to the device with kies. Just put the phone in download mode before hooking up the phone to the pc then start kies
And go to the top bar and select the 4th tab where you will see recovery. Then it will ask you for the model number and some other things and after that it will flash the fw for you. I have done this a couple of times now so i can tell you 100% that it will work

I'm actually trying to do exactly this now, and have tried re-entering the correct model number and serial number into Kies numerous times.
No matter what, Kies continues to state "Please check the model name and enter it" even though all of the info entered is correct.
Any suggestions? I'm doing this with my G930A on Nougat (model "SM-G930A")

[Q] FRP lock help--j700T Marshmallow

Hello,
I wonder if someone would help me FRP unlock my phone. It is a T-mobile sm-J700t 2015. I have searched the forum but don't see a clear answer.
I have tried (from Youtube) the USB cable method, the camera method and flashing the 10/2016 stock firmware through ODIN. In Odin I get an error: "Complete(Write) operation failed". I cannot turn on USB debugging of course because I cannot get into the device. Haven't tried updating with Kies yet because I'm nervous they'll patch any additional back doors I could try.
I am somewhat experienced at flashing and such and I think there must be a way to completely wipe the device and flash new firmware but I don't see instructions for that.
Thanks in advance!
Odin v3.10.7 & v3.12.3
Recovery: Haven't changed
USB installed from Samsung Kies (made sure Kies isn't running)
Firmware: J700TUVU2APJ3_J700TTMB2APJ3_TMB.tar.md5
Where I got firmware: https://qc3.androidfilehost.com/dl/...224401143/J700TUVU2APJ3_J700TTMB2APJ3_TMB.zip
Anyone? Still locked out of my phone. :crying:
Reboot normaly > go to settings > developer setting > oem unlock check yes
#gggirlgeek
Reboot normaly > go to settings > developer setting > oem unlock > check yes
I can't get into the phone at all. It is FRP (Google) locked because I did a factory reset from recovery. I can only manipulate it from PC or stock recovery. I have ADB, Odin and Samsung Kies on my PC if that helps.
What is the reason I am getting the ODIN error: "Complete(Write) operation failed"? Is it due to the FRP lock?
If not, would flashing the same stock firmware even help? (I have read that it's not possible to flash older firmware versions.)
Is the boot partition where the FRP status is stored? Is it possible to flash a new boot image to reset it?
I assume flashing a custom recovery would be useless? I doubt it could be done without USB debugging/ADB being enabled anyway.
One of the reason for that odin error is flashing an old build of stock ROM, your guess is right
Even if you are able to flash a stock FW via ODIN you'll still not be able to boot to your OS.
You have to login using the same google id that was previously logged in
OR you have to bypass the Google Account Login Screen.
There are varous method on youtube (i know you saw them) to bypass that screen (Side Sync method worked for me at the 10th attempt) inorder to install a 3rd party app either to
1. enable the developer option or enable OEM unlock ( to flash custom ROM or custom recovery)
OR
2. to overwrite the previous google account saved with your new account details. (THIS ONE HELPED ME)
WITH FRP LOCK ON, ODIN SHOULD NOT GIVE YOU ERROR ONLY IF YOU ARE FLASHING STOCK ROM. BUT STILL YOU WILL BE LOCKED WITH GOOGLE ACCOUNT LOGIN SCREEN BECAUSE OF FRP LOCK ON AND STOCK ROM
FRP info. is saved in Sboot. Flashing a new sboot works only for devices those were never upgraded to Android 6. For J7 2015 that was upgraded to android 6, flashing Sboot bricks the phone as said by a cell phone repair agent

What did you do to get the sidesync to work? Mine wouldn't even connect to Sidesync on my PC.
Tried different USB ports, and even different PC's to get it to pop up on the phone. Tried old usb drivers too. Sidesync never senses it, and My Computer only show MTP folder that won't accept any file pasted to it.
You did this with Android 6.0.1 October 2016 update? They fix more holes every time.
Also, can you give me the link to the unlock tutorial you used with Sidesync? Just want to compare my method.

2. Uninstall Samsung USB drivers

Hello,
I wonder if someone would help me FRP unlock my phone.

Not so simple.
During FRP Lock you are restricted to the google sign in page, locked out of everything else. Cannot even pull down the status bar. So no way to get to settings.
This can be done via ADB , but only if you had USB Debugging enabled prior.
I just obtained a used J7000T1 and FRP lock is activated , Even on the bootloader it displays "FRP Locked" . USB Debugging was never enabled .
If I find a way , I'll post. Any one have luck yet?
Once " FRP Locked " is off the bootloader, I'm sure we can just load a recovery / rom via Odin .... But that's where I am a stuck of course.

I had this happen last Feb when I got the phone and was trying to install twrp, and it says frp lock when I tried flashing the recovery tar via odin. I literally took out the battery rebooted back into the OS and turned on oem unlock and USB Debugging and it was fine then when I flashed twrp. I have never heard of this other issue u speak of. The phone has an unlocked bootloader to begin with. If u are stuck in a Google sign in page, I would download the Samsung z3 tool and make sure u have drivers installed and unlock the frp that way.it does have an option for frp lock

Thanks.
Drivers are installed.
Just cannot move from the google sign in.
There is a guide that shows how to use a USB drive with a shortcut apk on it , hooked up via OTG and is able to open settings. Although that did not work for me as well...
Maybe N version is different than MM ?
Almost the same problem here.....but in my j700f, I can't boot to recovery at all...can't flash stock firmware also due frp locked

(SOLVED) Custom binary blocked by FRP lock message when i try to boot my phone

Edit: It seemed as it solved itself, look in the replies for details
So i have had my gs7 rooted for a year or longer. Yesterday i rebooted my phone and got the error message "Custom binary blocked by FRP lock". Sadly, when i enter download mode and plug it into a pc with odin installed, it is not recognised. Odin does not say anything about a phone plugged in, and windows says the usb is not recognized.
What i think have caused this:
I downloaded an app that allowed me to record internal audio
I turned off developer options, and my stupid ass did not realize that is where oem unlock is located.
What i have tried:
Resetting to factory settings (from recovery mode)
Deleting cache (from recovery mode)
Using odin, but odin does not even recognize my phone
Tried using another computer with odin
tbh, looking at the other posts, i think i messed up. I dont want to send it in for repairing because i will have to pay a lot of money. I have tried sending it in for repairing a while ago. Then my problem was that i could not call with it, but they wanted me to pay the price for a new phone to repair my old phone, since i had rooted it. I did not accept it so i got my phone back, and managed to fix the issue myself. I hope i manage to fix the issue this time aswell.
There are lots of guides online on how to resolve this issue, please Google and read. Please make sure you have Samsung USB drivers installed on your pc

I have samsung usb drivers installed, and download mode has always been working and has always been recognized by odin ever since this happened. And online all i find is that i should boot into download mode and try using odin, but odin does not recognize my phone, nor does my computer.

SOLVED!
The issue fixed itself, im not sure what i did. I was suddenly able to connect my phone to odin. Just incase someone reads this with the same problem. This is what i did: installed smart switch and rebooted my computer. Uninstalled and reinstalled samsung usb drivers.
Before i did those things the issue was still there, i was ready to use smart switch, but i tried odin one last time and it worked. Now samsung pass tells me my phone is rooted, even though it is not (my root dissapeared after resetting my phone), its not that big of an issue, just thought id let you know
