This.

Why do you feel you should ask if you should root your Note 5?

Well since once I root it will trip the Knox and wondering if it's worth it princeasi

Do you realize what you gain and what you lose from rooting? Make a list, weigh the pros and cons. Only you can make that decision.

Honestly as of now there isn't much to root for and this phone flies as is. I'm personally waiting to see what else our devs come up with. And I want to try Samsung Pay which you can't use if you root

Wha what ? :silly:
- AdAway
- Amplify
- Disable Application [ROOT]
- Greenify
- Wanam
- Xposed
- YouTubeAdAway
Those above apps are key for me to run on any Android phone.
And then ThrashROM 3.4 + Arty97 kernel 5.0 beta = fastest Android phone ever, with 6h Screen On time easily.

That's a lie. The stock carrier ROM is laggy compared to the Thrasher Lite ROM. Battery life is better i=with a custom ROM as well.

Probably because it is slimmed down and using arter kernel fixes the memory issue.

I'm currently on the same boat. My main reason for root is Greenify which turned my 3hr SOT on my OnePlus 2 to 4hs. I also hate, HATE the Samsung UI. If only there was a way to get the same Notification UI from stock Android and put it in the Galaxy Note. I am also conflicted on whether it's worth it to lose Samsung Pay.

I am in the same situation, only haven't used samsung pay once since getting the phone. Once I get my rebates that involve pay, it's rooted. Been trying to stay stock, just to see if I can and honestly, it's not too bad but not good enough to keep it this way. Resale value will most likely be less but so be it.

Well I rooted a few minutes after posting here. The new method does not trip Knox so it's cool. It's all thanks to the new beta SuperSU.

Guess I need to keep up with changes, last I knew couldn't root without flashing custom recovery, which trips knox. If you can root without tripping then no reason not to imo.

Why you should root your Note 3

To know: You'll lost your warranty if you Root your device. Take that in account before Rooting, because Your KNOX WARRANTY VOID will be set to 0x1!! Think TWICE before rooting.
There are several reasons.
1st, because is a 5 minutes step and you're not gonna lose any data on your Phone rooting.
You can find a great guide on how to root the Note 3 in GalaxyNote3Root.com
2nd, because you'll be able to install great apps like:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Titanium Backup
Greenify
GMD GestureControl
3rd, because you'll be able to remove all the bloatware that comes via Samsung and remove the apps you're not gonna use or services that are replaceable by your favorite apps (like Flipboard to Press, or Files to Root Explorer...).
And doing this you'll have a snappy device with more RAM available for you and less background services.
This is a great guide that shows what apps are safe to uninstall or freeze via Titanium Backup.
Nearly everything is freezable, I recommend you to make before anything a Nandroid Backup via CMW and then freeze the services and apps you think you're not gonna use, after a few days if everything is ok, you may uninstall all the services and apps without risk.
4th, because in a short future you're gonna be able to install amazing ROM's as paranoidAndroid and others..
Disclaimer: You're gonna lose your warranty following the present rooting method.
how about OTA update after root, will I still get that?

In other devices you should update without problems, only losing root.
Don't know for sure if Samsung will limit the updates in devices rooted or with the knox not in 0x0..
4th reason is irrelevant.
1st point is also incorrect.
On the note 3 you'll lose knox and the warranty, unless you know of a way ti reset the efuse?

and how can i determine my model number? still i don't know is it the number that i see at download mode?
Will you be able to un-root and reset the flash counter to 0 if you have to send your phone back to Samsung under warranty?

first of all thank you for your work i appreciate. just kidding when saying 4th reason is irrelevant, i understood what you mean there. but in your guide i think there should be a warning. yes in a short or long time developers may find a way about efuse thing but it may not be resetable. samsung may have designed it that it only can be set to 1 by hardware. so there maybe a solution like: developers may find a way to prevent efuse to be setted to 1 but can not reset it so devices already with efuse set to 1 may not be recoverable.

If you root and subsequently mess around with your /system partition, you may no longer be able to receive OTAs.
More specifically, you might receive them, but they may fail because they are usually patches and if they want to patch something that you've removed or altered, it's likely it would fail validation checks and abort the process.
Regards,
Dave
I just want to be able to run stock while getting rid of all the att and samsung bloatware. For the most part, I like touchwiz. If I read correctly, titanium backup can delete apps but they come back on reboot? How do I accomplish permanent delete of gay att apps?

Cyanogenmod 10.2 Spotted on the Note 3

So,
As the title says, a working version of CM has been spotted by mr blurrycam (blurry probably as he couldn't contain his excitment) running on the beloved Note 3 and I had thought I'd do some market research lol
Will you be rooting the device?
Will you be installing CWM?
Will you be installing CM or are you happy with TW?

I have been refreshing xda daily (FAR too much) ever since eating my device nearly 2 weeks ago, today has made me so much happier! I've rooted and got X note on, but just imagine CM....... The potential to unlock more ram, lightning fast response and hopefully in time I'd love to see Sentinel Rom from Note 2 make its way here, that thing flew on that device and battery life was great!

I'm more interested in the PAC versions as it seems to be my ROM of choice because of the custom dpi settings.
Agreed though there is a lot more stuff you can do to CM, only thing that might be missing will the Pen Stuff (I do use it you know), but i've seen devs produce some amazing stuff so quite looking forward to that.

Yes, CM Rom will required a custom recovery/bootloader like CWM or TWRP which will trip Knox counter.
Rooting Stock ROM can now be done without Knox counter.

You are not alone.
But I'm prepared to live with the consequences. After all I wanted this device so bad, I couldn't have imagined not to root it and there's no other device out there that I could have gone with.
I hope Samsung will not shoot herself in the leg though. I am the minority here and you don't want to piss your customer base off. Especially the loyal one.

I will flash this and finally lose my knox warranty for it. Just will wait till its somewhat stable enough
Only thing I hope and pray they work on is the camera.

Sorry for necrobumping. Anybody seen any updates? I'm dying for AOSP since I sold my SGS4.

Don't Install 5.1.1 YET!!! Understand it first

CAUTION with 5.1.1 UpdateG925PVPU2B0F7I've been spending some time reading T-mobiles issues with the update. This isn't a super new conversation, but is probably new to many Sprint users. The update appears have rollback protection, which effects both kernel and bootloader from what they are saying... Which I find slightly confusing since I didn't think that their was a locked bootloader on the US versions (maybe someone can assist with that)
Figured we could start the conversation early for Custom Root/Recovery/etc. users, so that we may save some of us some trouble with Soft/Hard brinks in the next week or so.
This is the thread I've been looking at.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s6-edge/general/psa-odin-5-1-1-t3136151
EDIT:
NO, the bootloader is not locked with the 5.1.1 update.
Rather, "Factory Reset Protection" (an Android thing - not a Samsung thing!) is now an option, which allows you to lock the bootloader yourself, protecting your device from someone installing a custom recovery, wiping your device and making it their own. It makes the device somewhat less valuable, and therefore (supposedly) less likely to be stolen.
The 5.1.1 upgrade looks to be a "permanent" upgrade, meaning we're not able to revert back to 5.0.2 kernels and recoveries.
So, I would suggest to sit tight with your current set up. In order to customize our devices we will need to wait for:
A) Root for 5.1.1
-Root has been achived: http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...elopment/5-1-1-stock-of7-kernel-root-t3153396
B) Samsung to post the source code for the new kernel.
C) Custom Recovery
-Recovery has been achived:
Once we have the above, we can get back to modding our devices.
If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
Interesting article, I remember several other older Samsung devices where you could not downgrade bootloaders and modems. IE Galaxy S3, note 3, s5. But there was still root, Roms and the ability to flash kernels. Hopefully there's no need to go back anyway. The kernel thing is something new so I may hold off on upgrading. Thanks for the info

This is my first Samsung, so the whole root recovery process was almost too smooth since I've been on the HTC side for 5 years. Unlocking bootloaders, S-off and requesting tokens to push.. Ugh, as must as I likes HTC and Sense, that sucked.
I think I'm holding off as well, untill Sac23/ Ram9200 might have spare time to look over the update first and make sense of it all and could at least get it to where V.2 is right now. But it sounds like the Kernel could be our hold up, without Hybridmax's current support.

Anyone able to get Android pay to work ?

I running rooted deodex stock rom. I'm sure Android pay doesn't work because I am rooted but is there a work around?
I've read some people disabling super su and then being able to get pay to work and then turn super su back on. It didn't work for me.
I've also read that you would need to unroot, get pay to work and then root. I haven't tried this yet as I just got the phone to fully work with everything.
Anyone know how to get Android pay to work if you are rooted?

Once Knox is tripped, Samsung Pay is useless regardless what you do. Even if you unrooted and went back to stock unrooted it still won't work. Only a few select banks work with Samsung Pay and mine wasn't one so I didn't care about losing that feature.

Doesn't look like Android pay will work with rooted roms at the moment. Lots of people with rooted phones have the same problem. Some have gotten it to work. I've tried a few methods to hide root from Android pay and Google services but it hasn't worked. Also tried to disable supersu.
I would suspect using RootCloak in Xposed would help, but we don't have Xposed framework working on our device yet, right?

Xposed works with any of the stick deodexed roms in the android development section. I have tried xposed and root clock and it didn't work.
From what I have heard, even if you get Android Pay to accept your card on a rooted phone, it will fail at the terminal.
I haven't rooted yet, so I can't confirm. Only what I have heard.
Where does it say all cards will work with S Pay by the end of the month? I can't find that info.
thanks.

That really sucks. Oh well. No Android pay or Samsung pay for me.
I think eventually a developer will come up with a way to get either one to work while rooted.

Got this after updating it this morning.

Yep. I saw that in a post elsewhere.
When I launched Samsung pay this morning it asked me to update. After the update, Samsung pay didn't launch anymore Lol. Ah well.
Well this is somewhat official info.

It's nice of Google to listen to XDA. I'm sure it isn't the first time. The way I read the post by the Google engineer, it sounds like there is some hope of official support for Android pay for rooted users but most likely won't happen.

Just downloaded and running with skyhigh 3.8, smooth and quick like as quoted above. Thanks OP! :good:
I just bought a T-mobile Note 5 so i would LOVE to get rid of all the bloatware they include, besides i kind of hate having boot up logos in my phone, i have used Canadian FW in my S4 so i guess this should just as good, im still downloading the file, would you please let me know how to flash this one? the usual Odin would work just fine? Thanks in advance.

Flash in twrp as per usual assuming you're rooted and what not. Also I'm on T-mobile so I flashed SkyHigh's kernel right after the rom then booted up - just to be doubly sure.

I'm not a big fan of tweaked kernels unless they are packaged with the rom but so question,
Do I have to install skyhigh with this rom or can i run it flat out of the box and be fine? I'm also running TmoUS variant

Yes its fine if you dont install it will keep the kernel you had before insalling rom but if yes you should install it again reason is for example for arter kernel it disables knox completely like knox libs and stuff which i cannot delete in rom zip coz i think something is depending on these libs because i got bootloop when i deleted these so
i hope it will make sense
Cheers

Finally got a chance to flash this baby. Thanks again for making this rom you really did a good job on this one. Truly debloated rom??
Im having some extrange situation with my phone, whenever i make or receive a call it moves from LTE to H+ network, and every time its like people have a hard time listening me for a few seconds, probably due to the network switching, is this normal? Can i force/enable to use LTE network for voice as well? Thanks in advance.

Im assuming, since it's a Canadian base, like WiFi calling, there probably isn't VoLTE either. But just my guess.
Thanks for the reply, that might be the issue with the Note 5 running Canadian FW, but i hope there might be a workaround this.
Not the same device, but i was running official 5.0.1 canadian base on my S4 and didnt had the same behavior switching networks.
