Hey everyone. I managed to go from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1PR but now I'm running in to an issue where I cannot send/receive data (play store, email, maps, etc). I can, however, send text and make calls. I went through the hidden menu setup with no luck. I've already tried the following: Restart (obviously), Factory reset, Reinstalling 5.1.1, APN settings. All no luck. Has anyone had a similar issue or does anyone have an idea of how I can fix this? Thanks!
I'm in the same boat and have done the same. I should of rooted and just removed what bloat I could. Which carrier are you using? Also, did you unlock your phone before going to 5.1.1PR? I didn't unlock my phone using the unlock code so I wonder if that could be causing an issue?
Funny. I'm having the exact opposite. I have LTE data, but cannot call or receive calls. I bought the phone stuck at AT&T logo thinking there was an att tot file. Instead used 950 5.1.1 PR.

Weird. I want to flash back to stock (ATT) but am almost certain I'm going to brick it. I'm pretty stuck in my current situation as I imagine you are, too.

I can replicate your situation by using LTE Band 4. When i try to make a call it immediately ends.
If you try Band 17 do you still have the same trouble? Did you try playing around with the LTE Bands and LTE-CA config?

If you have also rooted your phone, you can try getting rid of 80% of the Claro settings and brandings (boot animation etc...) deleting (or moving safer-moving) the /cust/CLR_PR folder and all of its contents. I moved the entire folder to my downloads folder and rebooted. First reboot I didn't get any boot animation, instead I got a dialog box with the good old android is working spinner, but subsequent reboots are now using the stock LG boot animation and configs. GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto is also now available from the standard network operator menu...
One thing I will point out is that I am NOT SURE if I am actually getting LTE speeds, I only see the 4G icon, not the LTE icon in the status bar. About Phone -> Network is showing LTE though.
Good luck, if you try this and blow something up, please don't blame me - but hey at this point what do you have to lose?
Why can't we just flash back to AT$T 5.1?
I tried band 4 and then I lose my signal altogether.
I checked speed and download was in the high 30s upload only around 3 or 4.

Well....I figured it out..at least what my issue was. Sort of feel like an idiot...lol. Even though the network auto detection found Cricket I went into the APN settings and plugged in the data below. It immediately displayed HSPA+ in the top right corner where the signal is. I confirmed it got me online so then I dialed the 277634#*# to set the LTE using the settings from the initial post. It should be LTE because the HSPA+ would be half the download speed. Looks like my typical results on the LTE Moto G. This may not help the user who can't make calls but has data. Hopefully it helps others.

Awesome, glad its working... I started comparing the XML configs between CLR_PR and the original files in /system/etc, /system/media, etc.. but soon i gave up, just too much to go through, so I deleted the entire directory after i realized that if an overriding config was not found in the cust folder android would happily look in the original location and just use whatever defaults it had.

Sure, I used ex file explorer, enabled root explorer, navigated to "/cust" and then deleted the folder. That should be it, i don't think there is any type of persistent backup of the contents there.
Wow, for me after I flashed the 5.1.1 PR I got the 2G/3G/LTE option right away, and it was set at 2G/3G/LTE already. Also LTE worked just fine from the beginning, didn't even have to enter hidden menu. We use band 4 here, maybe the phone is already set for that band? But the LTE option appearing right away is weird I guess.
Now I don't know if I should root it to remove the Claro branding (especially the boot animation, hate that one)...

I moved the cust_pr file and got the exact same results in that the phone now shows 4g but says LTE in about phone, and the speedtest app confirms I am getting full speed at least for Cricket (8mbps) down.
Many parts of the world use 4G to represent LTE and H/H+ to mean 3G data. In the US, we get 4G for H/H+ and LTE because of carrier marketing. Since you removed the custom Claro profile, the phone is now showing the default symbol for LTE as "4G".

Now on my Samsung Galaxy Note LTE, it's easy to find lol.
by the way, just to help someone help me, I'm on kit kat build version: KRT16M. Baseband M8974a-1.0.25.0.17; Kernel: 3.4.0-g9eb14ba
On my Nexus 5, it's located under "Settings", then right under Data usage there is a "More..." tab.
That takes you to a new screen and under "Mobile networks" is the APN.
I'm on Telus, if that makes any difference.

I also think you have to have a sim card in place for the "APN" to be visible or active.

Yep, that's right where I'm used to seeing it. I'm guessing that Sprint has "hacked" the 4.4 OS and hidden the APN menu or something. I went into the store today and asked where it was and they didn't know (no shock there), but when they tried to update my tower settings they did a *#*#72786#*#* to reset the phone, and then did the *#*#8232#*#* and did some stuff that they wouldn't allow me to see.....
Anyone have an idea if the T-mobile N5's have been "molested"? IE APN menus and such are where they should be?
ok, after some more digging, it looks like the APN settings are all under the data menu using the *#*#3282#*#* to access it. It's all broken up instead of being in one list like in 4.3 and prior, but it looks like it's all there. now to find some apn settings for Sprint and AT&T to do some testing.

Its my understanding these are the same model phone. You might want to try just putting in your AT&T SIM if you haven't done that already. On my previous phone (Verizon Note 2), that changed carrier specific settings and loaded the APN automatically. You shouldn't have to do any dialer menu magic for GSM service. When I activated my Nexus 5 on AT&T we just stuck in the SIM and the AT&T rep configured stuff on his computer, nothing more needed to be done on my phone.
Yup, it worked without a hitch. Soon as I put in the AT&T sim the APN menu was right were it should be. Service was fast and clean. Putting the sprint sim back in proved problematic, but nothing a system restore couldn't fix. Thanks for all the help

Manged to get GSM signal outside US for LS996 Sprint version zv5, still trying for APN settings and Sprint carrier title change
This is what i did..
1) Rooted as per instructions available on internet or under Lg Flex 2 general thread..or site of highonandroid.. search for how to root lg g3, flex, flex2 etc..
2) After rooting installed root browser.apk via playstore or any equivalent market place
3) Opn Root browser which will prompt for supersu rights , allow / grant access permission
4) go to carrier folder and then go to apps folder.
5) Renamed two files which is under carrier/apps as *.bak
4) Added new files used the same files which is used for LG g3 sprint unlock..under carrier/apps (Attached )
5) Insert a SIM card before restarting.
6) Restarted the phone and got the signal bar with calling and SMS working..
Still awaited for APN settings and the GSM carrier still shows as Sprint where i need help
Update : Manage to get APN settings too.:
Install Shortcut master lite click and hold the recent apps button and click "Search"
Search for apn select com.andoird.settings$ApnSettingsActivity and then click Launch / homescreen
Select on the Top Right new apn
Fill this form out with the apn from your provider (If you don't know the apn look it up in google).
GSM carrier still shows as Sprint where i need help..
updates : GSM carrier shows proper names ..it seems had issue with my sim card..
now all working fine with GSM calling, sms, mms, , apn ..too
only thing needs to change the icon where its shows GSM while connected to data ..which can be changed to H / H+ ..which is mentioned in some other threads too..
Thnks, Bro, its working fine.

Ideally it should work with t-mobile or any gsm carrier unless it has a bad esn or restircted in US. It just disables the lock of sprint in an OS level.
thank you so much will try
do you get full LTE?

LTE depends on the frequency available in your country but mostly you would not get it would be H+..which is equivalent to 3G..3G+

After rebooting go to settings...more...mobile networks ..u should see options for GSM only, CDMA, WCDMA only WCDMA / LTE..select GSM only ...make sure once the file is replaced you insert a SIM card before rebooting. By default it selects the Global network options once rebooted. Hope it works for you both.
If needed i can add screenshots which i was able to achieve for gsm signal and the data signal (GSM icon).
i doubt or dont know whether it would work within US

Sprint Phone Activation
hey guys, id like to use this method to unlock but I have a great prolem with this. I dont live in the US an bought the phone there after I read that it can be unlocked. It came completely new to me. It was never activated with Sprint and I dont have any Sprint account or whatever. In Germany we only have GSM based networks. The 'self service' app always prompts me to activate the device but that isnt possible because of the GSM network or roaming or whaterver - even the sim that came with the phone didnt work. Is there any way to bypass this bull**** and get that phone working? Hope you guys can help me out with a good idea. Thany you
Best regards from Germany
Jan-M.91
P.S. if anyone finds a way to get 800, 1800 and 2600 MHz LTE bands working please let me know, just found a guide to get the 1700 MHz band.
Hey guys, little update here.
I managed to unlock using the files AND editig the build.prop from SPR to VZW, works so far. APN and MMS are fine. Big problem is GPS when I activate location settings the phone crashes and goes into bootloop. Only way out is reflashing with LGFlashTool. I tried two times so i fugured out that GPS causes the bootloop, SystemUI also closes during usage, all in all very buggy. I think of flashing another ROM, H959 (unlocked US version) or H955 (unlocked EU version) to get rid of the lock, the Sprint boatware and the 'hands free avtivation' that I cant do because I am in Germany with a GSM carrier. Anyone tried this so far? Hope you can help me out. As mentioned it is possible, I made two calls after the progress I described, but I dont recomend it because of bugs and other issues.
best regards

Dial 277634#*# in dialer
Open the menu
Go into Field Test > Modem Settings>LTE band Selection>Band 17
Back
Then go to RAT selection
Select GSM/WCDMA/LTE
You can check the status by
about phone>network>Mobile network type...
It will shows you LTE..
cheers
Updates:::: luckily we now have LTE auto choices within our preferred network selection..

I think, that's all what we need to enable lte from our device using 810pr FW..
What i noticed is when we're calling, the connection will drop from 4g to 3g..I guess its the same as Verizon Variant
Dennisg34 said:
With the fact Verizon purposely drops your coverage from 3/4G to 1x while making a phone call? I've seen in the General G4 forum the "fix" for this is to setup advanced calling (which costs money). Anyone know if there's another fix? Possibly something to edit in build.prop (very highly doubt that)? Perhaps I'll have to wait for custom ROMs to come out in the future and have them enable this along with the Mobile Hotspot.

Wow, it works! Thank so much!
Unfortunately this isn't working for me . I'll keep trying after some updates finish up.
EDIT:
To clarify, my connection works but it shows 3G. This might be due to my poor signal at home. I'll check it again tomorrow where I know I usually get 4G.
This works, but we do drop to 3G when making calls.
I was wrong, these changes didn't make any noticeable difference (terrible LTE in my area).
I tried changing target_country to US and target_operator to ATT in BuildProp, but that killed 4G completely.
I posted ATT and H810PRa build.prop files here.
What does the LTE icon look like? I'm getting a 4G logo
That is LTE, you'll see "H+" for the fake 4g

I tried using the default APN and the phone has all sorts of issues trying to connect to anything. I have to put the APN in manually to get anything.
What are you guys using for ATT APN?
---------- Post added at 04:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:06 PM ----------
I did a combination of changes on top of the settings suggested here and got 4G finally. I did the settings the OP suggested and the following:
Defined a new APN based on info from here:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/go...-t-lte-apns-network-settings.html#post3301622
I also went back into the modem settings, LTE-A Carrier settings and hit the top option "CA Enable /SupportedBandCom" which also says All-enable under it. This resets things and boom, 4G.
Hopefully this helps anyone else that's having issues. Although I managed to back to HSPA trying to get the settings for you guys, doh.

However, here's a thread that suggest we should use a different APN.
One more step for settings to work
Actually did not work for me there is no where to select Lte in network mode. just gsm and wcdma. followed the instruction and it did say success. But no 4g lte.
Worked for me, thanks for posting. Now we just need the ATT official files.

View attachment 3446193Hello all, after doing this I had LTE from activating it in RAT selection in the hidden menu.
In mobile network > Network Mode, it was still GSM/WCDMA auto and was driving me insane. I looked around and found out the LteConfigs.apk for the International versions did not have the AT&T MCC MNC added in, not letting us select GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto.
I took the app, decompiled, added it in lteready.xml and recompiled, now I can select it and it automatically selects it when reboot.
enjoy.
Put in system/app/LteConfigs/. Folder permissions 0755. LteConfigs.apk permissions 0644.
Remove the old apk and .odex
Take this apk and just replace with original. Set permissions to 0644. Reboot.
Can leave arm64 folder.
I took an edited lteready.xml file and replaced with the original one, no decompiling, just swapped with 7z.

Followed instructions, made sure to set permissions correctly, still don't have the option for GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto.
Edit: redownloaded apk, reinstalled, reboot. Now get lteconfigs has stopped error.
What else can I do?

Thanks for the update! It's working for me now on H810PR 04.
My friend received an Xperia Z3 from Telstra as part of his plan and I got an iPhone 6 as part of my iiNet one. I hated the iPhone 6 and he hated the Xperia, so we swapped after looking up online that they are both unlocked out of the box. Everything seems fine except that my mobile data doesn't work, in the upper left corner it shows iiNet (the right carrier) but I cannot seem to get my mobile data to work. Is this a problem with the unit itself or with the fact that we swapped phones?
You'll need to configure your APN settings since Telstra phones only come with their settings.
Visit iiNet's website for their APN settings then head to Settings -> Mobile Network -> APN and add them there. Save then enable.

Their website doesn't actually have it as far as I can tell, have sourced it for you here.

Thanks for your fast reply. I have entered the internet and mms an settings as two separate entries into my apn settings and restarted my device but if I turn off WiFi and mobile data on, chrome still tells me I am offline if I try to load a website. Do you know what I might be doing wrong? Thanks for helping a technology newb like me out, I really appreciate it

Hmm that's weird. Had the same problem on Reddit where a Canadian couldn't get their M7 to work with iiNet mobile data but their calls and texts were fine. Are you absolutely sure that the internet one is selected in Mobile Data settings?

Yeah it is... For the apn type for the inter net one, do I type "default or internet"? Or just one of them?
I got it to work in the end but thanks for all your help
For anyone interested in how I did it, continue to read:
Firstly I went to Settings > More under Wireless and Networks > Internet Settings (note you need WiFi to do this) and then selected Optus because iiNet runs under Optus and then the APN settings were changed automatically and mobile data now works
Sent from my D6653 using XDA Free mobile app
Ahh yes, the Optus APN, slipped my mind.
FYI for anyone else, the Optus APN works with all MVNO's using the Optus network (Virgin Mobile, iiNet, Exetel etc.).
Glad it's all sorted out.
Careful if you're in the Mid West and want to customize a 2015 Moto G. I have had great success with previous variants, but this one (XT1548) won't get back on the US Cellular network. Tried a few nightlies and the release version. No bars show, the status message reads: "Emergency calls only - U.S. Cellular", and when choosing US Cellular as the network operator it times out with: "Can't connect to this network right now. Try again later."
I found this post and was very optimistic that setting the Access Point Name manually would help, but I am unable to actually save the full APN. I can save it after entering the name & APN fields, and several more fields, but at some point when I enter all the data on that page and click Save, the new APN disappears.
I called U.S. Cellular's support number (888) 944-9400 and level two support was able to provide my MIN number but disavowed any knowledge of the remaining APN settings. When they understood that the phone was rooted I was read a dismissal and wished good luck. I tried entering the APN now with the correct MIN but again it deletes itself when I click Save.
I am going to try flashing stock since I need a phone. If anyone can confirm or deny the APN settings from the linked post I'd really appreciate it. And if there's some secret to clicking Save, I'd love to know that too!
Also, maybe it's because it's searching for a signal but the drain on the battery seems much higher than the stock ROM. It went down 25% in just an hour or so of trying to resolve this issue.
# Update:
It could be that the network type is incorrect. When I connect to adb, the prompt says "[email protected]_cdma:/ # ". But the service I use is LTE.
pushing APN via ADB
If someone adventurous is interested in pursuing this, it may be possible to shoehorn the APN settings in using ADB:

@loadcode Actually CM 12.1 wasn't tested on US Cellular XT1548, no one had this variant in those days. Try unofficial CM 13, if it works (I'm pretty sure it does) I'll port the fixes to CM 12.1 too
Thanks for the reply! I'm down for that! Where can I find the 13 download?
I did find this but the cellular still doesn't connect. It seems to try, and displays the SIM card icon next to US Cellular (only when I set the Preferred network type to 1g), but continues with the previously-mentioned symptoms.
Any other ideas? I didn't make a backup before jumping in. Does anyone have the original firmware that I could flash back on this device?

@Alberto97 Is it possible for someone to edit the known issues page for the Osprey to make other US Cellular users aware of this? This would have saved me a more-stressful-than-necessary holiday.
I think I found the original firmware, so all might not be lost.
Thanks for your work on this!

I have the virgin mobile variant.
It is also the same model as you. XT1548.
I along with others struggled to get custom ROMs to connect. But thanks to Alberto, it is now working
Try this
Flash Alberto's cm13 12-24 build from the site you linked above.
Once it boots, go to settings and click cellular networks.
Then click CDMA subscription.
If NV is selected, that is probably your problem.
Change to RUIM and reboot.
You may still need to add your APN settings, but maybe not.
Try it out. You just need to try a few things, I'm sure you will be up and running soon.

@hossman, thank you very much for the encouragement and the suggestions. I'd love to have your confidence with this but I've tried many different combinations of the APN, Service Provider & Preferred Network Type and nothing has been the magic US Cellular desires.
Like Alberto said, apparently no devs tested it on the US Cellular network.
If it'll help I could try to provide testing results but I'm also really eager to have a phone again. Even if I could use my SIM card in my old phone for now that'd be acceptable, but for some reason it doesn't work in the 2014 version. (worked fine in my 3rd gen until flashing Cyanogenmod, so I don't think the SIM is bad.)
If it helps with development, here's a log of the network join attempt:

The funny thing is I have had my carrier come up us cellular many times while trying to establish virgin mobile status
Sorry I did return it to stock. A (possibly relevant?) observation is that with the stock firmware, I have the option to toggle the CDMA roaming mode between home & auto. With the non-stock ROMs this was not listed.
For my reference if I attempt this again, and anyone else on US Cellular, here's the working APN settings from the device after I reverted to the original working firmware. All categories are 'Not set' unless otherwise listed here (even username & password):
APN Name (I assume this could be anything...): U.S Cellular
APN: usccinternet
MMSC: http://mmsc1.uscc.net/mmsc/MMS
MCC: 311
MNC: 580
APN type: default,mms,dun,hipri,fota
APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN enable/disable: APN enabled
Bearer: LTE
MVNO type: None
Don't get discouraged.
If you want to try again, feel free to pm me and I can try to help...no promises but I'll try..
We're online with the 2/6 build of Marshmallow! I did have to manually launch the Cellular settings app and manually enable/click on "LTE" and it came online immediately! WOOT!
