Broken screen & digitizer, help with adb? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have an encrypted Nexus 5 loaded with TWRP custom recovery. Unfortunately, the screen and digitizer are broken. I see there is a tool to control my phone from my computer, but it requires usb debugging enabled. I also see I can enable usb debugging from adb, and I can see just barely enough to get into recovery mode from the bootloader. However, I am unable to see or enter the pin for the screen pattern from TWRP (because of the encryption). I do have access with fastboot at the bootloader. Am I out of luck or is there any way to proceed at this stage?
I think I could use fastboot to flash a kernel with usb debugging enabled, but so far I haven't found any kernels that fit the bill.

Aha. Was able to follow directions from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62398797&postcount=213 to edit the stock boot.img. This post had a little more explanation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62398797&postcount=213

Manually turn on USB debugging on Nexus 5?

Android users need help with my phone! I am trying to manually turn on USB debugging (to access files on phone through update thru ADB mode in recovery options, I can install the driver for the phone but won't work until USB debugging is turned on) while my phone cannot boot into the OS. Is there a secret way to turn on USB debugging through recovery mode? (I do not want to wipe the data, and phone unfortunately is not rooted)
USB debugging has nothing to do with adb via recovery. It is an Android only setting. Recovery cannot use it and does not need it.
Adb doesn't work in stock recovery. I wrote a useful thread for people who are new to adb, as you are. You can get to it via the link in my signature. The thread is called "adb and fastboot. What isn't?".
It teaches you how to set it up and use it correctly.

My main issue is that I am trying to retrieve my non backuped data on the phone and the phone itself will not boot into the Android OS.
I have looked into unlocking the fastboot/bootloader but it will wipe the data which would be pointless.
The data on the phone is more critical to me than the phone itself (and yes I was dumb enough to not back it up, didn't expect a flagship phone less than a year to crash on me, but I have learned for next time).
I am looking for any possible way to retrieve the data. I have tried to access the phone from the computer but I cannot access it since USB debugging is turned off and the phone is not rooted or doesn't have any other modifications.
Is there any way at this point I can retrieve the data off the phone with a non bootable OS and locked and stock Android OS?
Y is it non bootable?

You are stuck. Stock recovery, locked bootloader, and OS will not boot. As RootSU mentioned, USB debugging has nothing to do with this. Stock recovery will not connect to adb.
Unless you can get the phone to boot looks like data is lost. Sorry.

Expect it from every electronic device. Especially expensive and complicated ones.
So I actually had warranty left from Google (bought directly from Google) and was going to RMA it but I decided not to because the data on there is important to me and worth more than the phone itself (yes I should of backuped everything but oh well what can I do now). And I bought a new phone so this Nexus 5 will be my little side project to try and revive it; somehow.
I will try to keep going at it, I have small programming/coding skills but it would be nice to find a way to open up the USB debugging option on the locked stock phone somehow that doesn't bootup.
Any suggestions on where I should start to start testing different "procedures"?

[Q] Need Debug on, but screen and power button broken, device still on and working

Hi guys!
I brooke the screen and touch of my razr hd, as well its power button.
I'm trying to acess its screen trough the pc using a tool from the forum. BUT I need to have the usb debbuging enabled, wich I don't have.
So, I need to enable it from de pc somehow.
The device is working properly, the pc recognizes it and allows me to deal with its files, the device is turned on and is rooted already.
Someone have any idea of how to enable the usb debugging with the touch and without entering in recovery or fastbootmode?
The only two things I know I can do with it for now is to reset or turn it off trough a command in cerberus.

There's a lot of info out there on this. Various way to recover. Maybe try this:

All the info in this 2 tutorials and in other I've found, in some how, ask me to use the buttons to acess fastboot mode or recovery mode, but as I said, they are broken.
I was hoping to find some comand lines via pc and with the device still on to put it to recovery or fastboot mode, cause then I can use adb or fastboot to enable usb debugging.... But, I still don't know how...

[Completed] I have messed up, I don't know where to turn. HTC One M8 softbricked in Bootloop.

I have an HTC One m8 that is stuck on Bootloader. It is an unlocked bootloader with S-Off. I had CWM but I installed stock recovery back onto the phone before flashing a stock kernel (I was trying to make the phone look untampered with before I turned it over to my provider), the Kernel came with a sha1 and was from a trusted website and I am 100% sure it was the right compatible Kernel I'm pretty sure I just had a bad flash.
I have tired the following to get the phone past the bootloader:
1. Fastboot USB Mode --> Try to get ADB to recognize the device --> Debugging mode isn't on (obviously) --> ADB can't recognize the device.
2. Use AndroidSDKSlim/ Android SDK tools / Android Utility to remotely turn on Debugging mode (I got nowhere with this)
3. Attempted to use PdaNet to remotely turn on Debugging mode (got nowhere)
4. HTC Sense doesn't even know whats going on
I just need to get TWRP or CWM or litearlly Any recovery installed. That's all I need, I can do everything from there. I can't remotely install a recovery via adb because adb can't recognize my device because I can't turn Debugging mode on because my device is softbricked!!! Gahhhh. I haven't been able to come up with a way to remotely enable debugging mode or to get adb to recognize my device.
Any ideas/comments/suggestions would be heavily appreciated - I've resourced from every relevant thread I could find. Posting here was a last resort I try to fix things on my own but I'm too many days into this with no results please anybody.

Broken Screen, how to get to my files? Need an android expert!

Hello everybody,
I know there are many threads with broken screens and so on, but I've been searching the internet the whole day & night and tried nearly every solution.
My Smartphone fell on the ground two days ago, I can see everything, but touch isn't working anymore.
Usually I'm rooting my phones but i didn't root my XZ5 so far (big mistake!), so I don't have a custom recovery.
I have USB Debugging activated, but I haven't connected my phone since it updated to the new firmware, so I'm getting RSA Fingerprint Message which I can't allow.
After my Z5 fell on the ground, the fingerprint didn't work so I had to restart my phone - now I'm forced to enter the key to unlock the system.
At first, I tried "Android Control" with adb, but when I connect my phone, adb says "unauthorized" - no remote control possible.
After that, I bought a OTG Cable and plugged in a mouse. This isn't working, because I have to search for a plugged-in USB device first in the settings (the phone doesn't recognize the USB device itself).
Fastboot & Flash Mode are still working.
Is there a possibility to skip RSA Fingerprint with USB debugging or deleting my lock screen? I thought of unlocking my bl and installing TWRP, but then the mobilephone would be wiped as far as I know.
Maybe someone of you knows a "temporary recovery" which can be booted from SD-Card or another way to get to my internal data..
It would be awesome, if someone could help me with this!
Many thanks in advance!
Only way i can think of are to downgrade to lollipop with flashtool without wipe.
Then the usb mouse should start to work directly if im not mistaken.
Atleast i think it was this they before mm upgrade.
Did you try to boot the phone with the mouse connected?
Skickat från min E6653 via Tapatalk
yes, unlocking would completely wipe your phone, including internal memory so it's not a solution.
Rsa key request means you cannot run any adb command right, included adb shell right?
Did you try to do an extensive google search with "broken screen rsa"?
Particularly, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...b-rsa-key-with-broken-touch-screen-on-android
talks about rebooting in "recovery mode", so you could try to use adb commands in fastboot mode (or download mode)

So I recovered my password from the dust and figured this is my chance to help..
Better be working..
I dropped my z3c while I was holding my newborn baby, it contained all the pictures from birth, ****ing fool I am for not backing up..
Get that short '.. to usb' - thing from the box. Use that to connect your Bluetooth mouse and tada that should work. Use it to unlock your phone and do you what you want to do.
It worked for me, hope I can help you.

Tool for unlocking Android pattern\bypass google lock screen

I recently got locked out of my phone with debugging off,no wifi and no root.
Since i see lots of the same question i'm posting another tool i found for all those in need.
If you are also locked out with none of these options there are a few steps you will have to take first
I followed lots of helpful tutorials here on xda which led me to:
1- CF Root phone through Odin, doesn't require debugging on. (CWM included)
2-When in CWM recovery use ADB to activate USB Debugging.
(You can also try to turn on wifi etc and see if that solves it for you)
Unfortunately i was not able to unlock my phone in ADB although maybe for some different models the adb methods might work. Allthough i was able to remove the lock screen in setting,in my case i still got the email lock screen even after the pattern was removed.
But with Debugging on i was now able to use this wonderful tool created by GSM EXTREME.
It really is a one click unlocker.
I was not able to find version information but this is the latest one i found.
You can download it here

If you have a custom recovery installed, you can use this zip to bypass the screenlock.
