Screen coating wears out fast, normal?

Was polishing the phone and noticed the screen coating is wearing out pretty fast, is this normal? I thought i took pretty good care of the phone, never put it in the same pocket with keys or coins.
Photo attached, had to breathe on the glass to make it visible.

.....what are you using to clean the phone?
please dont say windex, or anything that is in a liquid form
the screen has an oleophobic coating that helps reduce smudging, and by using any chemicals you'll rip it right off the screen.

if thats true, then take your phone back
holy crap, I was just looking at my phone today and noticed this as well (I noticed it this morning before I read the thread, not the other way around lol). But ya... only had it for a few days and I see some spots where the coating is coming off I think. If I run my fingernail over them I can feel a very very slight roughness... I'm quite unimpressed with this, as my Vibrant has been dropped many times and the screen has held up fine.
I'll try cleaning it a bit (I never use anything other than a microfiber cloth) and see if it helps out... if not maybe I'll exchange if more problems come up.
I just breathe out moist and wipe with clean cotton cloth. I think this is safe.
i hope this is only something on a few units.. pretty weird though never seen something like that before...
My God! I clean all my devices with a micro fibre cloth only and if that's enough to cause that, this thing will be going right back!
None of you are using screen protectors on top of the coating?

it does kinda look like when you get moisture under a screen protector
that sucks.....its a good idea to test your "coating" before 30 day return policy runs out !

Good point ... only two posts from the OP and a strange silence following your question.
Yikes. Looks like I see this as well. 2 spots - lower left and lower right corners. No sp. Only cleaned a with a microfiber cloth a few times. Oddly the 2 spots are the 123 key and the enter key exactly. Seeing as how those are not the most often hit keys for me I wonder what is causing it to seemingly wear off.
Can we contact Samsung regarding this or is everything through best buy?

Don't Drop it???

Ordered a few cases today to try out a couple different vendors.
Unfortunately I didn't order them last week like i should have....
N5 felt about 15-18 inchs onto pavement as it slide of my leg. hitting the corner and landing face down. Landing face down
I thought it would have scratched a bit but not have a this chip taken out... Plastic around the glass seems as soft as it is to the touch..

You're lucky you didn't end up like this drop test...
ouch, my case is on the way....gotta be more careful......the white n5 is sooooooo slipppery.....
why are you amazed over that? Hate to tell you this but that damage is pretty much what you would expect out of any phone. Just count your blessings that the screen was fine.
OP you are ridiculous. Drop a lg g2 like that or a s4 then you will see how they end up. This phone is very well built and that is the least that can happen to most recent smartphones nowadays. So save your whinning and better edit that title with all those !!!! Afterall it is not the phones fault that you dropped it.
I got a warning from a mod for putting my question thread on the wrong section (here instead of the QA).
But yet the OP doesn't get anything.
This thread is completely pointless. ...I mean "Don't drop it! " ...?? I think everyone who bought the phone knew that before they even paid for it.
And why are you shocked ? you dropped it on a pavement! ..it's not rocket science.
In fact , that's actually impressive , only a small damage...the phone is really tough for something that's not IPwhatever certified like the Xperias

So if I understand you correctly..... If I drop the phone onto a hard surface, it may get damaged? Thanks for the heads up.

And yet another tread to make the search for actual issues that much less effective.
Thank You OP!
I'd say that's come out of it pretty well. The plastic band has taken the impact and not passed a lot of energy through to the glass, thus it stayed intact.
"don't drop it" indeed, as if anyone goes out of the house thinking, "you know what, I'll bounce my N5 like a basketball today"
Thanks for advice, i was thinking to drop my phone.
Honestly, not that bad. And easily covered up and hidden with a case. Consider yourself lucky.
So in other words, the sun rises in the east and sets in the west, the sky is blue, water is wet, fire is hot, etc etc....
I have to say this phone is well built or I am extremely lucky. I dropped mine from about 3 feet and it fell flat on its back. My heart fell to the floor with it but when I picked it up there was no damage at all. Absolutely no scratches, cracked screen, broken camera, or rattles. So far it seems as if everything is working as it should.:good:
well isnt it obvious that when u drop a phone u will end up scratching it or shattering the screen?

Results from a similar drop with my S3... screen cracked. Never spread though and didn't cause any usage problems so I dealt with it for months

oh man. i remember throwing one directly to the ground when I was upset and it still worked after, haha. It didn't have a 5 inch screen on it either. in fact, the screen wasn't even on the outside.
The N5 looks less fragile than the N4, so we'll see.

Nuglas Tempered Glass Spider Web

Hey guys, I just bought a nuglas tempered glass protector for the n5, and I applied it. But for some reason, there are a couple of bubbles at the top and bottom. But these are not dust bubbles, and I dont know why they are there, or even more important, how to get rid of them?
Apparently it is called a spider web.

Not tried this particular one, but on others, we get these because it is not in full contact with the phone. The N5 is not entirely flat. You have to apply prolonged pressure to the area to get them to stick. I used a cloth to cover the front and back, then used a bulldog clip to apply pressure for 30 minutes or so to each web
Oh I see, unfortunately I dont have any sort of clip, do you have any other solution?

Lol you obviously have a hard time understanding english.
I mean anything without a clip.
Hope that helps
I replied to your pm. Thin cloth, small adjustable wrench... Firm pressure, leave it half hour. Move to next bubble, repeat.
All gone. ?
Worked on my Mime Ghost. Just don't put too much pressure and crack it.

Cracked display..

I dropped my phone earlier, i have a thin case on it, it fell back down and the display cracked, not the outer glass, but cracks on the inside. Are these phones really that fragile that their display will break from being dropped on the back at about table height? That seems like nonsense. Good thing i have a warranty.
Sorry about your bad luck, got pics of the case and the phone?

Damn i dropped mine today at work but luckily i have a durable otterbox knock off that saved it, but the fall on asphalt broke the corner of case off, also have a tempered glass screen protector on,did it land face down???

My wife dropped her s5 with a case and a glass screen protector on it and it vracked only the digitizer.... screen was ok..... well thats when we got the n5s.... hehehe so its not the n5 being weak!!!

I used to work as a sales rep at a Sprint store and I would demo my otterbox by throwing my phone across the room. They work. Out of about 300 throws I got 1 cracked screen, so I'd say those odds are pretty good.

They do work but you now have a brick for a phone instead of a slim/seek device. Tradeoffs.

confirmation I guess

I dropped my baby :crying: but this is a conformation that even with this damage on the back it still remains water resistant I didn't really see anybody confirming that it would still be water resistant so this is for ppl who have this damage and are wondering
