Thanks for sharing these. They look really good overall. Really like the slow mo mode.

Wow last one looks awesom

These all look really nice. Great colors and insanely good software stabilization. I was worried we would get super shaky videos with no OIS, but the software stabilization is working even better than OIS.

Thanks for sharing. I tried the 4K one, and I think I actually saw flames coming out of my laptop

sadly this review got pulled again ... i'd suspect htc doesn't want any reviews out there before the offical release tomorrow. i read that htc-hub.com got legal issues for doing an unboxing... that is very childish of htc, especially considering that media markt germany already sold devices on friday!
huh, no google cache...anybody?!

Translated from above:
The super-bright AMOLED screen (active matrix organic light emitting diode) is working very sparingly. An automatic brightness control optimizes the energy consumption if necessary. The color is very good and the viewing angle is very wide. The Pixelaufösung unofficial sources indicated at 256 ppi. In direct comparison with a Sony Xperia S with 342 pixels per inch, the difference can be seen only in text, if you look very closely. In everyday life, but the 256 ppi One of the HTC S perfectly adequate and even sharp enough. Pixels can not be seen.

Well that's pretty encouraging. Sounds like the screen is better than the one in the Motorola phones.
Winning DDD
The Sony Xeperia S has a HD screen and the One S has a QHD screen. There may not be a difference when looking at text but I'm pretty sure there is a difference looking at HD video.

Thanks.... All in one ......
Man I'm so torn. Exceptional builld quality and an awesome screen were the top two priorities in my next phone. At this point it seems like the One S would be a lateral move from my Vibrant in terms of screen quality. Which is acceptable, but a bit of a letdown.
I think I'll still end up getting this though. Still seems like a great phone overall.
Phonedog review
I can't help but wonder if the reason HTC was being review-shy is the thrashing they knew Sense 4.0 + the moronic ICS with hard buttons & the silly giantic menu button workaround would get.

It wasn't that bad when it was released...now, coz of better stuff, it's blown away...
Whoever sold fit to you must have been a real champ! Production was permanently discontinued, and even availability in shops was dead (like 3 months ago)
When did you get yours?
Typed using a small touchscreen
Actually is a brand new machine . I got it for free from a carrier with a monthly plan (12 euro/month).
It.s a good phone, but the resolution is... soooo bad!
Thank you all devs for your great work!
IMO resolution isn't all that bad..its the ppi is tooo low.. :/
its just 121 while my old cell which costs just 4k indian rupees had 144ppi with same resolution! but it still looked good..
I guess no fix for that...

Videos unsharped, washed out and dropping frame rates via Youtube app

Hi, anyone here noticed watching HD videos via the Youtube app to be unsharp, washed out and dropping frame rates? I compared it to my Galaxy Nexus side by side and I noticed that the videos dropping frame rates. Feels like my Galaxy Nexus runs 60fps and the Nexus 5 30fps.
Would like to know if I am the only one experiencing it? Please share your thoughts.
Cheers!

I will definitely agree with you. Video playback (HD even) is not sharp and washed out. Looks almost interpolated for some reason. Tested side by side playing exact same video over fast wifi with a HTC One and a Nokia Windows phone. I thought it was just me, thanks for bringing this to attention... a lot of things annoy me about the N5 but I won't go into that.
If someone is used to premium hardware such as an HTC One, then this is most definitely NOT a phone to "upgrade" to just for the sake of the new OS. N5 is definitely not a premium build, but it's not priced as one either... It is also just not as responsive in many aspects next to my One and I used both for a day. For someone coming from a more inferior handset though, it no doubt would be an upgrade. To each his own
I am seeing this on youtube but not on other apps. Hulu, Netflix, etc... all look great and stream smoothly even on HSPA.

Yeah, I think so too. Let's hope this is only related to optimization and not hardware related. I think we need this thread to be active and maybe get the attention of Nexus 5 users and hopefully by Google. I really don't want to think "we got what we paid for"
But for the specs inside this beast, I am expecting a bit more.

That's a bit better but still ludicrous for a phone with Snapdragon 800. I am guessing it has something to do with 4.4 compatibility. Either way, I hope they fix it before I get my next phone.
Yes, I'm also seeing this issue on my Nexus 5 which is very annoying as YouTube is my most frequently used app
For most videos, it's fine, but for video where there are fast action scenes (i.e. sports videos), the problem is very noticeable and the videos are barely watchable.
I was considering selling the phone just because of this and going back to my Nexus 4.
Yeah, the Youtube app is broken. There's a lot of stuttering going on.
Live wallpapers seem to have this problem as well. Please let Google know that this is occurring in their product forums.
Get a device with an amoled screen

I only use YouTube via Chromecast (sent from my Nexus 5 to my TV) and everything looks great.
The few times I watched anything directly on my phone, everything looked fine.

There is an alternative app called Viral on the playstore. I've ended up removing the YouTube apk as Viral is simply better but I don't know if it will address all your concerns. I don't notice stuttering on either my N5 or 10 but do see buffering on occasion which is seen on both the stock YouTube app and Viral. Personally I think this is a Google server/services issue or Android bug because Web access is fast when the buffering occurs.

You can make out the pixels in certain content, I noticed that streaming sometimes improves as the video progresses. You can certainly notice the difference between good quality content and not so good quality content.
I will tell you that its pretty damn good compared to most other VR that I've tried though.
Silly question but did you play with the focusing wheel at the top? also make sure its a tight fit and try moving the headset around on your head as it might not be sitting perfectly in front of your eyes.

I did try several contents, but its also the Userinterface which is not clear to my eyes.
And yes, I did try the wheel, but I dont mind silly questions, I'll try to move with my head!
was playing with this, the effect is amazing its just the resolution aint the best some of the content is just very bad , i tried the cinema and that was really amazing experience the seats next to you seem so real, i can only imagine when quality is like what we get with 1080p on tv screen then it would be something id probably watch movies on , this just seems the beginning , cant wait till it gets better
I have had a gear VR since the early developer edition for the Note 4. The new Gear VR supplied with the S7 is a great improvement. But I am afraid the resolution will always be a bit fuzzy, as essentially you are viewing the screen very close to your eyes and then magnified. You will see the pixels like you would if you used a magnifying glass against the screen. It's the limitations of the technology mostly and this is why I was hoping for a 4K screen on the S7 this time around as that would improve things a lot, as would some of the movies being shot in a higher resolution.
As a side note remember to wipe your phone screen as clean as possible before inserting into the VR and make sure that you do not touch the lenses as you do so. Any greasy smudge (or fibre from a cloth) will impair the viewing.
In my opinion, considering how relatively cheap the Gear VR is and how much content is available which continues to grow, it still is a fantastic experience overall. Samsung have got the ball rolling and we can only expect this technology to improve.
.
blah, I gotta wait for my Gear VR to come in

I don't know what the S6 developer edition is like. I am comparing the original Gear VR "developer edition" that was released with the Note 4, to the ones that are now shipping with the S7, so you personally may not see too much difference. But it's lighter, less bulky, has better ventilation, more comfortable padding, a micro usb port for charging on the go and is compatible with various galaxy phones now.

Yeah, similar one here mate. My Mrs said, "oh boys with toys", but then she started using it and her face was a picture, huge cheesy smile
Just let my old man have a go and even he figured out how to play it and said it was literally like looking at the future.
The best way I can explain it is that is essentially like being literally in one of the lawnmower man simulations!

The Pixel 3 uses the Sony IMX363 for the rear camera so it may be possible. However, they seem to not want you to use 60fps for even 1080p as there is no option for it in the stock camera app.

You're too funny. You mean to say in the next model, ala Pixel 4. They very rarely "fix" things, let alone add a feature beyond the spec sheet, that are considered working as intended.
Ignore me. I am just bitter. I just sent back my brand new $850 Pixel 3 because it does not shoot in [email protected] like most flagship 2015 phones.
Better luck next time.

Too bad you didn't check the specs first before sending it back. It automatically bumps the recording to 60 FPS when it detects fast motion or action in the scene. It's supposed to be a feature, not a bug.

Oh I did check the specs. It's says 60fps. I can't set it to 60fps. So the spec sheet is wrong. It should say "up to 60fps" or 30/auto* with small print to say something along the lines like (*we decide for your dummy, so it's variable). Then this would be correct, but that's not how this works NOR how it's works on most flagship phones since 2015.
Imagine if your TOP OF THE LINE car specs stated a top speed of 60 mph, but it automatically can go 60mph if it detects fast motion or action, otherwise it goes 30 or some variable of this. It's one thing if we were talking about the worst car on the planet, but that's not the case.
To each his own. Glad you like the new "feature" as you call it. Enjoy those 30fps 1080 videos on your $850+ phone. Have fun

I understand your preference and sarcasm, but I, and probably most consumers don't record videos very often. I don't care if a 30 second home video clip is recorded in HD, FHD, or UHD. They all look the same to me on my 5 inch screen. Buy a pixel for the photos, not the video.
Yes there is, have to switch between 60 and 30 when about to shoot video

Yes, I know it's not ideal, but it is practical. You don't need 60fps to record a dialogue heavy scene. You do want it during a brief moment of fast action. Supposedly, Google is smart enough to recognize when to use it. That's a feature just as much as auto HDR... which we all love.

I just saw that for the Pocophone there is a 4k 60fps mod, which enables chosing the framerate in the stock camera app. Is that (technically) possible for the Pixel 3 too?
