just wondering if anybody has noticed that they have gotten less battery life with cm12 instead of cm11?
i used to get at least 2 days on cm11. but since cm12 iv noticed i do not get anywhere close. i might get over a day but i dont know is it just me?
Yes, it's a pretty well known fact that KitKat got better battery life than Lollipop does.

Hi,
I´ve been using GPE 4.4.2 for a while. It worked really good, but when 4.4.4 came out, I wanted to update it.
I did a full wipe and install of 4.4.2 afterwards upgraded to 4.4.4 and then I restores my apps.
I think I´m getting less battery life in 4.4.4 than in 4.4.2.
Also, I got a couple of random reboots during this week.
Nothing huge, but I wanted to know if I´m the only one or if somebody else is facing the same problems.
I´m on stock kernel. Does someone have another kernel and configuration to recommend for GPE? My priority is battery life.
Thanks

I'm satisfied with 4.4.4 but it's true, battery life is less than 4.4.2
Thanks, I returned to 4.4.2
When I tried aerokernel, my phone got stuck, so I decided to go back to 4.4.2
The battery drain is a problem on all 4.4.4 stock ROMs (GPe included). Motorola f'ed something up so the phone is virtually in a continuous wakelock, with the cpu stuck at full clock speed. My new phone came with the 4.4.4 update already installed, battery life is crap compared to my old one that I stubbornly kept on 4.3, which lasted 3 days in standby. The new one with 4.4.4 barely makes it to 6 hours with no use at all.
Might I suggest installing CM when the release M9 - I certainally will when (if) it gets released.
GPS issue draining battery?

I am back on 4.4.2 but I found a problem that I had in 4.4.4 also.
I normally have gps off and I just turn it on when I need to use it.
I´ve found in 4.4.2 with OSA maps and in 4.4.4 with TomTom that after I turn off the GPS, if I check the battery stats, these apps appear to consume a lot of my battery because they kept using the GPS for a lot of hours more.
Does it only happen to me?
Thanks
I have read on various forums that the latest software update has been causing problematic battery drain on the M8 and more often the Verizon version. I briefly had one about a month ago but had to return it due to some contract issues. Now I am looking to get another as I really liked it. I did however notice that the battery did drain pretty fast when I had mine. It had the latest 4.4.2 software on it. If I root it, can I install an older ROM and have the great battery life return? Are there any tips on what was causing the issue? I see AT&T actually pulled the Kitkat update due to battery issues several months ago.
Thanks for the info,
Rob
No battery drain on my device. I'm on all stock Verizon and I did a factory reset after the 4.4.4 update. Battery life is excellent and I get through a 24 hr work shift with about 20 percent battery left, about 3 hrs SOT. I'm sure you can get an older ROM version by asking in the thread of the ROM you choose if it isn't available in the OP. Many fine folks here keep old copies. Good luck buddy!

Thanks I appreciate the reply.
The oldest ROM it originally came with is 4.4.2 so I don't know how much that would help your case. Maybe the newest 4.4.4 can help if you still have problems on 4.4.2 on your new phone (if it isn't 4.4.4 already)
I've had the phone since release date and never had a battery drain issue. The battery life was great at launch and has gotten a bit better with firmware releases.
Before I had the M8 I had a Gnex. On that Gnex android 4.4.4 would cause the phone to get very warm and increased battery drain. It doesn't surprise me that it does it on the M8 as well.
I didn't see any battery drain on 4.4.2, 4.4.3, or 4.4.4.
Pfft with all the ROMs out and kernels to help who needs battery drain.
HTC One M8
After the update, my battery life dropped by an honest 50%.
I dont use my phone much and used to get 6 days on a charge, now I only get 3.
I realize that's more than most and I should not complain, but still.
I also had to reset my phone due to problems with pictures in my previously recieved texts not opening.
The reset obviously did not help my battery problem.

6 days per charge? Haha what?

It's true, I'm older & only use a phone to make calls, & a few texts.
No social media stuff or anything like that, all Forum stuff is done on a tablet or computer.
Is it generally accepted that Kitkat has better battery life than Lollipop ?
You can't simply make a general conclusion.......
For some people yes....For others no...because our usage is all different
The best and easiest way to come to your own conclusion, is to do comparison and testing for YOUR usage
You might get more replies from other random users who say it's better or worse without any actual numbers or info about how they use their device....hardly useful
Then apply this logic to every single device / ROM / kernel combination..........
my n5 battery life for KK and lollipop is exactly the same, depending what im doing. generally, i see from 4.5-5h sot.

Dear sir!
May I ask how you achieve that SO time?
Regards, Zagor
KitKat is better for me. I don't have any stats to back it up other than me using the phones and knowing that Kitkat is easy to get 3 hours SoT and Lollipop is not. This is using the stock rom and not trying to conserve power in any way. I have recently purchased a new battery as well which has helped alleviate the pain.
Either people are feeling the pain of older batteries or Lollipop is using more batteries or both because the battery threads are all over the place these days.
On 5.1 on a fresh new battery, Lollipop has been better for me.

If I had to vote I would say that LP 5.1 has a better battery life and signal reception (around 10dBm with the same radio KRT16M).
So My OPO Runs Lollipop for the last three months, and battery life was never great.
I've heard that kernels can fix it and give me 8-10 hours screen on time.
flashed franco, metallized, tyr, tgm and changed the profiles with kernel auditor but it just doesn't do anything except make the phone run slower.
does anyone have this issue too?
P.S
I'm currently running cm12.1 nightly and metallized Nev8 and struggle to get 4 hours SOT

Same here, exodus made it a little better. My average screen usage is 4hours then the battery is a nearly zero (having lg watch r always connected to the phone)
Tried BlissPop, CM unoffical by jgcap, cm12 nightly, all result in the same. I also switched from chrome to opera to reduce battery usage, it gives me ~30min more screen on time.
Since I'm playing Hearthstone the battery life is 19-20hours, because Hearthstone drains so much.
Hey all !
I am back to O+O since 1 month as I was able to find a bamboo version.
Previously, last year, I owned a normal O+O running CM11 and I was really happy with battery life. I was wable to go trough my working day and then get a drink in the evening and keep battery life until morning.
With the Bamboo one I have now, it is impossible. I am around 10% of battery life near midnight. The only differences I see are :
- Bamboo cover (I don't think it is impacting battery life)
- The phone is 1 year old, perhaps the other owner did something wrong with the phone and ruined the battery
- CM12
I think the answer is in the version of CM ... Can you confirm me that ? Do you know if I can downgrade from 12 to 11 ?
My phone is used at work, not too much, I shutdown useless services and connection as LTE, Bluetooth, NFC, Location, ...
So that's really annoying I am already lowering my usage of this fabulous phone to be able to reach a full battery day and it is getting me sad
Thanks in advance for your help and toughs and excuse my poor english

I'm guessing its going to be due to CM12 which has poorer battery life across different devices compared to previous life on Kitkat. You can go back to kitkat or run both via multrom which is what I do. You can compare both and I clearly see that kitkat standby time is far better with probably an extra hour or 2 screen on time. Is your bootloader unlocked? If not your going to need to, to flash back to previous android versions.

I had also the feeling the issue is caused by CM12 and Jelly bean.
thanks for your idea of multirom, I am going to have a look at that tonight !

Its definitely worth it, theres a guide to booting lollipop and kitkat roms alongside eachother in the thread below. Sounds tricky but once you get the right files together its fine.

I'll come back here with my impressions asap.
Thanks !
