sudden problem after 12.1 - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got 12.1 YOG4PAS1NO update last Sunday and had no probs till this afternoon. Suddenly phone is running really hot. I shut phone off to cool but gets hot again. Also launcher was freezing (Nova). So I went to stock launcher. When I open Apps in settings it freezes. I installed an app today so I uninstalled it, but still problems. (app was a currency exchange) Not sure what else to do.
thinking back i was installing a theme on Next Launcher, a launcher that i hadn't used but the launcher was installed, and the launcher seemed stuck on updating. i since uninstalled Next Launcher - but the problem continues.
Any advice would be appreciated

Widget Issues

I am and have been running Vegan 5.1.1 since day one with no issues other than the little quirks that have been discussed here. Anyway, lately when I load widgets all seems fine until I power down and then back up. The widget is just black and says "problem loading widget". I remove them and add again and all is well until I power down and back up again. Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Funny thing: a couple of days ago I started having the same problem, running TnT-lite 4.2.5.
Been busy over the weekend and didn't pick up my tab again until this evening, turned it on and experiencing it again; searching around in the forums for a fix.
Interesting. Most of other Android users get this after they move or install certain apps to SD, but on our tablet that option is non issue.
Will try clearing Dalvik-cache in CWM .8 and wipe cache see if that helps.

Just rebooted 3 times, without clearing anything and Widgets load fine. Hmmm.
What launcher?
Happens to me one in about every 30 starts. Gotten used to it so I just delete and reload widgets. Takes 30 secs. Think it might have something to do with when launcher starts in load sequence.
I've rarely seen this on ADW (both my DX and Tab). I just go into ADW settings and restart ADW.
I use Zeam as default, have LauncherPro and ADW installed.

facebook app stopped working

so, the Facebook app stopped working, and now only force closes. someone right next to me on a different android phone has no problem, so the issue must be isolated to the charge.
I,m running a rom called infinity, but I can't find the thread with that rom any more.
anyone else run into problems with the Facebook app? I've tried clearing cache, uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling, and even tried emailing myself a known working apk to install. nothing works. what did Facebook do to break their app??

wait their app worked???
lol I've always used another app for Facebook though they all have their little problems, I'd suggest friendcaster (almost an exact clone of the official app), seesmic (cool smooth UI but lacking some features) and tweetdeck (kinda basic but gets the job done lol)
blazing through on my A500 with ICS

That is good.
Around the time I made this post, my phone began acting very flaky. On my way home from chuck e cheese where the app stopped working, and after I confirmed that Facebook was up, and the problem was isolated to my phone specifically, I rebooted into recovery to clear cache.
After clearing the cache and rebooting, my phone got stuck in a bootloop. No amount of battery pulling and trying again would get me out of the loop. After getting home I just flashed a new Rom. I decided a rooted debloated stock gingerbread rom was the way to go, so I flashed that with Odin.
Well, everything was peachy for about a week. On my way to a wedding rehearsal dinner with my girlfriend, I charged up my phone as I normally do before going out due to the dismal battery life when actually using the phone. I had the phone off at the time thinking that would make it charge ever so slightly faster since I was in a hurry.
Once I was ready to go I unplugged, hit the power button, stuffed the phone in my pocket, and left. Over an hour later, I pulled it out and noted that it was booting...
Then it rebooted
and rebooted
and rebooted
I was in ANOTHER bootloop. Tried battery pulling. Nope, back in a bootloop. I gave up for a while. At dinner I pulled it out and began tinkering. I cleared cache in recovery, but still was in the bootloop. I cleared Dalvik cache, but still was in the bootloop. I tried the factory restore option...
Well, that worked, however, I had disabled the default launcher (by renaming it with the file extension ".bak") and installed ADW launcher EX from the market. I hadn't moved the ADW apk to the system folder, thinking it would be easier to update if I left it in its default location.
So I had a phone with no launcher.
However...
I stumbled upon a solution. Somehow the voice search button still worked. I searched for market. That launched the browser. Clicking on the first link asked me if i wanted to use the browser or Market to complete the action. I chose Market. I tried installing ADW Launcher EX, but the install failed. Damn. I installed Root Explorer and launched it from within Market, used that to rename the default launcher, and voila!
Now, strangely, my phone is a LOT snappier than it has been the last couple weeks, though I've reinstalled all my apps except ADW.
I haven't quite figured out what caused either of the Bootloops, and I'm really not certain why my phone is snappier NOW after that ordeal than it was when I first flashed the rom.
After flashing a rom am I supposed to go into recovery and do a factory restore from within the new rom and recovery? I thought all you had to do was clear the Cache and Dalvik cache.
You don't necessarily have to, unless the ROM specifically tells you to in the instructions, but you can. I've also had times where my phone just crashes and burns, and I have to restock and flash ROM again. Not very fun and I have no idea what causes it, but it's not a big deal having to lose a of my stuff since I have TiBu on a nightly schedule. It's just a minor inconvenience.

[Q] Nova Launcher

I am a long time user of Nova and when CM12 (OTA stock) came out I went right to work changing the icons and white card background. Now Nova locks up nearly very night, while charging, between 1:20 and 3:20 AM. I get force close. I am locked out and need a reboot.
When rebooting I get the update screen
"Android is updating"
"Starting 2 apps"
Then all is well during the day. I tried Apex--Same deal.
Nova worked great on CM11 (OTA stock)
Launcher 3 (default) has no issues. Any thoughts on how to fix?
FYI Phone rooted and TWRP installed. Never installed nightlys
Tried
Delete cache and data
Change themes
Cycled (tried on and off)
Ambient light
Daydream
Prevent wake
Strange.
I am using Nova Launcher Prime and also been beta testing it before the 4.0 release and had no issues like you described - not on CM12, COS12 (stock OPO) and not now on CM12.1. You should get a logcat, when this happens or maybe reinstall ROM.

I forgot to mention that I am using Nova Prime
For me Nova beta with prime is working fine, did you restore your settings? Maybe there's something broken.

When I deleted the data and cache it sets it back to the "factory" default. The only restore I did was to re-enter the settings manually. The other thing is Apex Laucher has the same issue.
what activities go on in the middle of the night, and/or what 2 apps are being started on the reboot. Also, why does this happen only while charging.

Huawei Launcher wants to rule the day? Other launchers crashing.

This is on an MHA-L09. I would prefer to use Nova or the Google launcher, anything but the Huawei stock launcher, but am having issues.
Nova Prime is crashing, or so it is reported by the Huawei Launcher that Ithen replaces it, with a warning that I should uninstall the Nova Launcher. I cannot see a pattern to when Nova crashes.
I have a seperate issue with the Google Launcher. This sometimes finds itself caught in a desktop refresh loop - the desktop will go black, the background image will be re-drawn, then the icons and widgets, then it will blank again. While this loop is happening, I can draw down the notification shade and the screen will stay on, roll up the shade and the refresh loop continues.
So,
a). has anyone else found the same and has solutions, or
b). are there any crash logs that I can look at to see why this might be happening, for either Nova or Google Launchers?
This has happened over a few versions. I have also done a factory reset and the prblem continues. After the reset I did do a re-install from a back-up, so I may have just reloaded what ever is causing the problem, hence my keeness to find logs to help see where the problem may be.
I used to have this problem also but tried Microsoft launcher and I'm hooked.
Ever since, I haven't gone back to huawei or nova
Mine is a L29, USA version, no issues with Nova Prime here.
This issue is definitely caused by using your backup. If I recall correctly the crashing was a nova bug after an android update and has since been fixed, but if you use a backup created before the fix it will cause the same issue again. Simply do a clean nova install and ditch your backup and it will work like a charm again.

Getting a screen glitch when closing apps.

I've started getting a glitch where if I swipe up from the bottom and I'm in an app, immediately after the app swipes away it will briefly flash up on the screen again. It started happening as soon as I switched back to the default from Nova. I've since u installed Nova and rebooted and it's still happening. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Google beta app?
I think this could be related to the GOOGLE beta application. I had the same issue after a recent update to the application. After removing myself from the beta the issue was gone.
I think I got an update to that immediately after removing Nova, so I'll give it a day or two and see what happens after another update.
I had that happening when on Q beta 4. Once I switched back to Pie (I did a full wipe/reset) it went away
