so, the Facebook app stopped working, and now only force closes. someone right next to me on a different android phone has no problem, so the issue must be isolated to the charge.
I,m running a rom called infinity, but I can't find the thread with that rom any more.
anyone else run into problems with the Facebook app? I've tried clearing cache, uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling, and even tried emailing myself a known working apk to install. nothing works. what did Facebook do to break their app??

wait their app worked???
lol I've always used another app for Facebook though they all have their little problems, I'd suggest friendcaster (almost an exact clone of the official app), seesmic (cool smooth UI but lacking some features) and tweetdeck (kinda basic but gets the job done lol)

That is good.
Around the time I made this post, my phone began acting very flaky. On my way home from chuck e cheese where the app stopped working, and after I confirmed that Facebook was up, and the problem was isolated to my phone specifically, I rebooted into recovery to clear cache.
After clearing the cache and rebooting, my phone got stuck in a bootloop. No amount of battery pulling and trying again would get me out of the loop. After getting home I just flashed a new Rom. I decided a rooted debloated stock gingerbread rom was the way to go, so I flashed that with Odin.
Well, everything was peachy for about a week. On my way to a wedding rehearsal dinner with my girlfriend, I charged up my phone as I normally do before going out due to the dismal battery life when actually using the phone. I had the phone off at the time thinking that would make it charge ever so slightly faster since I was in a hurry.
Once I was ready to go I unplugged, hit the power button, stuffed the phone in my pocket, and left. Over an hour later, I pulled it out and noted that it was booting...
Then it rebooted
and rebooted
and rebooted
I was in ANOTHER bootloop. Tried battery pulling. Nope, back in a bootloop. I gave up for a while. At dinner I pulled it out and began tinkering. I cleared cache in recovery, but still was in the bootloop. I cleared Dalvik cache, but still was in the bootloop. I tried the factory restore option...
Well, that worked, however, I had disabled the default launcher (by renaming it with the file extension ".bak") and installed ADW launcher EX from the market. I hadn't moved the ADW apk to the system folder, thinking it would be easier to update if I left it in its default location.
So I had a phone with no launcher.
However...
I stumbled upon a solution. Somehow the voice search button still worked. I searched for market. That launched the browser. Clicking on the first link asked me if i wanted to use the browser or Market to complete the action. I chose Market. I tried installing ADW Launcher EX, but the install failed. Damn. I installed Root Explorer and launched it from within Market, used that to rename the default launcher, and voila!
Now, strangely, my phone is a LOT snappier than it has been the last couple weeks, though I've reinstalled all my apps except ADW.
I haven't quite figured out what caused either of the Bootloops, and I'm really not certain why my phone is snappier NOW after that ordeal than it was when I first flashed the rom.
After flashing a rom am I supposed to go into recovery and do a factory restore from within the new rom and recovery? I thought all you had to do was clear the Cache and Dalvik cache.
You don't necessarily have to, unless the ROM specifically tells you to in the instructions, but you can. I've also had times where my phone just crashes and burns, and I have to restock and flash ROM again. Not very fun and I have no idea what causes it, but it's not a big deal having to lose a of my stuff since I have TiBu on a nightly schedule. It's just a minor inconvenience.

hey,
So I have a Bell Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant, it is rooted, runs 2.2 & Speedmod kernel.
It has been running fine on the speedmod kernel for several days now, until today. Out of no where, when I was using the phone Launcher Pro started CONSTANTLY force closing, basically leaving my phone in a useless force closing cycle.
AND, on top of that there are other apps that are force closing about every 10 seconds or so. they are: Market, Clock, and Samsung Apps.
Any idea whats happening here?
Thanks a lot!
~Dylan
did you install any recent apps that cause problems? it might be one of them.
You may need to ODIN back to stock.. well thats how we go back to stock on Galaxy S VIBRANT.
should be the same.
I haven't installed any apps that have caused problems that I know of...
I was just listening to music for an hour or so in the car, then when I unlocked my phone I was met with countless force close messages.
Yes, I was thinking that might be the route I have to go, but I was hoping there would be some way to uninstall those problem causing applications (namely Launcher Pro) somehow. I don't know how I would go about uninstalling it though, as my phone is basically rendered useless due to the constant force closing.
But thanks a lot for the input!

i don't think theres a difference between our phones, mines Tmobile Vibrant, but theres a built-in feature in stock, and most custom roms called SAFE MODE.
most people don't know about this.
This mode helps you do exactly what your facing, uninstall apps that act up.
In Safe Mode, it disables any startups and all that shiz.
Try going in like this.
shut down phone.
press power and wait till it get on vibrant screen, then start holding the MENU KEY the whole way until it starts.
the way to know if thsi worked is.. on the bottom left hand corner, it'll say SAFE MODE with a box aroundi t.
if this doesn't work, ODIN is the best way.
If you haven't turned it off recently, try a reboot. Yeah, standard boring advice, but I had constant-force-close issues a few months ago and a reboot fixed it.
So I somehow managed to get into the task manager by long pressing the home button, then from their I was able to uninstall Launcher Pro. So the CONSTANT force closing has stopped.
BUT, I still have plenty of other apps that are force closing very consistently. For example, everytime I go into the messaging application it force closes, so I can't send or receive texts. Along with that, Facebook, 'Clock', Samsung Apps, & Market are force closing.
When I go into the market it says **Connection Error (or something like that) and then sometimes force closes....so this problem renders the market useless as well.
Oh, and when I go into safe mode, I still get the constant force closing... but thanks for that info! I had no idea you could even go into safe mode with this phone.
Honestly, at the point flashing stock firmware back into ODIN is looking like my best option, but I reallllllly don't want to lose all of my installed apps, and text messages, and whatnot.
Anybody have any other ideas?
btw, thanks a lot for the input so far!
So I did a backup of all my data using the speedmod recovery menu (volume up, home, power)
If I reflash the PDA in ODIN, will I still have the speedmod kernel, thus allowing me to recover my backup of installed apps, texts, etc.?
Or will re-flashing wipe the backup and get rid of the speedmod kernel..?

Idk what the speed mod thing is.. But yes. It will be erased.
If u want to save backups of apps..
Get titanium back up doesn't matter if u get pro or free.
Just restart on everything dude.. Like a clean fresh install.
Its something that u installed or flashed that's causing these problems.
Sounds like your phone's internal SD is dying. Our Bell Vibrant has a nasty habit of the internal SDs dying, and I've heard that force closing all the time is one of the signs that the SD is going. There's a thread in development about this. I suggest you start backing everything up
Alright, I started from scratch and now everything is working great! thanks for your help guys!
plus, now I'm even running Darky's v7.5 Gingerbread Edition, this ROM is soooo epic. haha

I have Galaxy S with Android 2.3.4 JVR and it works like a charm - with this one exception: sometimes (too often) phone, contacts and messages (sms) keep closing. This happens usually within a second or two after opening up them. There's no force close message, it just returns to the home screen without any warning. If I reopen it, it usually does the same a couple of times, but eventually I get it to open.
At first I thought this must be a memory issue. However, I have Autokiller installed (my phone is rooted) and I have usually >100M free memory. Then I thought it must be Autokiller killing the dialer, contacts or messages apps. BUT: this happened also before I had Autokiller installed, so it can't be that either. The strangest thing is that I tried installing GO SMS Pro and GO Contacts + Dialer, and even they do the same thing occasionally (close immediately after I open them), so it isn't a problem with apps either.
I am bedazzled here, could somebody please help me? This starts to get really annoying, since the dialer, contacts and messages are the feature you normally use most in your phone!
I have the exact same problem! Somebody, please help
the phone app and etc. seem to be corrupt or something
try reflashing. If you keep getting the problem then revert back to your previous rom =/
Is there any way to try to replace only the phone etc. apps without flashing the whole rom?
from my experience no but you can try replacing phone.apk sms.apk etc with the previous rom's apps
The funny thing is that I have a stock 2.3.4 JVR, so it should be stable.
Plus, did I mention that this happens only sometimes? Sometimes they work ok. But this happens often enough to be annoying. You know, when you would have to make a quick phone call you have to open the phone app like 3-4 times, only then you're able to make it. I wondered if the the problem could still be in the dialer, contacts and messaging apps even if the problem occurred only sometimes?
In addition, the calendar app has done this a couple of times. Could it be that there's a conflicting app that's causing this? If so, do you have any suggestion what it would be?
Autokiller made my phone do some really funny stuff. After installing it i was having random reboots and apps crashing so i uninstalled and problem solved. You said it was happening before you installed it though so im just guessing that you need to either wipe cache and dalvik then reboot or do a full wipe and reinstall of your rom. When you do the full wipe go into mounts and storage and wipe system too
Hi and thanks for your comment. What are the effects of wiping the cache and the dalvik cache? Do I lose important data? Or can I do it safely? Sorry, I'm a bit of a n00b with android. I suppose you wipe the cache in download mode, right?
I experience exactly the same issue as you-though I am on stock jvu.I come from 2.3.3, stock as well, using chainfire root both times.
Sometimes phone contacts and message s close immediately after opening them, often several times. and sometimes everythings fine
here you can find some information about dalvik and normal cache wipe..your data will be safe-only first boot will take longer.I will try wiping now, too-reporting back then.
Edit:
For now wiping seems to have worked well and fixed the problem here..I need some more testing though-will keep you up to date here
edit 2: damn! The issue's still there.anyone got more ideas?
G'day!
I have the exact same problem with JVU and I had this problem with 2.3.3 but less frequent. I have no choice but to reboot the phone when it happen. I suspect it's caused by one of the widget (email and Go weather) that I put on the desktop. Going to remove the two widgets from desktop and see if it's help.

Okay, that sounds interesting - though I am not sure wheter a widget could cause this...
I am still running JVU but now with Galaxian Kernel instead of Chainfires root Kernel - flashed with SGS Kernel Flasher and still got root - and it runs very stable and fast 'till now. No more closing of phone, contacts and messages so far -.- since 2 days.
I'll tell you when it happens again, but so far it seemed to be a kernel issue for me...
I've been having the same issues with my Samsung SideKick 4G. messages would keep closing as I was typing them, I would lag and the key I pressed would "press again" like 15 more times, sometimes I just couldn't open a conversation, other times I couldnt answer phone calls cause the UI lagged.
That was all on stock firmware, and I got fed up with it so I tried to flash a custom ROM on it, and before I did that I had it OC'd to 1.2GHz which was actually pretty great. Needless to say, I screwed up on flashing the ROM and now I'm looking for firmware to odin back to stock. =\
I have a Rooted Droid charge running EP4P but ive had this issue since EE4
for some reason when i have a set wallpaper (a picture instead of a live Wallpaper)
the background will stop scrolling it,
i have to restart the phone and when the phone comes back on, it lets it scroll untill i see the "Media Scanning Running... (System Storage)" then it freezes again
Ive tried multiple launchers including LauncherPro (personal favorite), Gingerbread launcher free, ICS Launcher, and a Honey comb launcher, but all of them fail.
the only one that still lets it scroll is the original twLauncher and i dont like it
is there a way for me to fix it
this started happening when i installed these i don't know if its relevant or not:

Sounds like you may to do a factory data reset and reflash the rom you're using. Did you upgrade to EP4P via the OTA update or using an ODIN/CWM ROM? If you did it via OTA from EE4 then perhaps before doing the full data wipe, try reflashing the EP4P ROM via ODIN first. Sounds like something got corrupted.

thats the weird thing ive reflashed many times do to other reasons, when i had it on EE4 it froze, i reflashed to receive the ota and that fixed it for a few days, then it started to freeze again, then when the ota hit, it worked again for like 1 month and then it froze again,
later i reflashed ep4p through odin, just because i felt that my phone was getting too boring and i wanted to start from scratch, and it worked again but then it froze after about 2 or 3 weeks, now running tweakstock rom and still same issue

darn i dont doubt you but whats weird is that its done it on 3 roms! and i have gotten very fond of launcher pro, although it seriously needs to be updated :\
I am on CleanRom 3.0 right now, fresh install. Now, for the problem. Today while sitting in class I took my phone out to see it was booted into safe mode. So I rebooted it back, and noticed a lot of my downloaded apps were launching 10-25 seconds after I clicked to open them. So, I rebooted again. That didn't work. I cleared cache and dalvik cache. That didn't work. So, I dirty flashed CleanRom 3.0, which still didn't work. After driving and listening to spotify in my car, the apps launched completely fine, and still are. Does anyone know why this is happening? By the way, this happened on my rooted stock rom, that's why I switched roms. I don't know if this could cause any issues, but I do use Directory Bind.
Have you checked if power saver is on?
Another possibility could be a lot of applications running the background and just slowing your phone down.
Check your task manager by holding the home button for about 2-3 seconds.
Yea, power saving is off. And there isn't any apps running in the background when it's ran slow. Most stock apps will launch fast (settings, phone, clock), but downloaded ones won't (I funny, handcent sms). I seriously can't figure out what the issue is. I've even tried messing around with set cpu, but that didn't help.

Lately my Nexus 5 has been having some issues. I first started noticing this when I'd get artifacts popping up while on chrome. Then during reboot, play services would crash, and sometimes the launcher would refuse to start. Then other apps like Hangouts would refuse to let me view messages without a app crash. Even 3rd party apps have crashed on me.
I've done a full wipe and put stock 4.4.2, three different times now and within a day I get the same symptoms all over again.
This has been going on for over a week, I have absolutely no idea what to do now.
Any ideas? Is perhaps the storage bad? Any way to test it? Or what should I do.
Thanks
Flash clean stock and don't install a single app for those few days and see what happens.
If nothing, install just a few apps at a time per day. If it suddenly starts....you'll know its one of the few apps you just installed.
That's all I got. Lol

Are you flashing a custom kernel with it? Are you undervolting at all, running art? I specifically ask for undervolting, cause that will cause things to crash | reboot.
No, no custom kernel. Everything I got was from googles factory image site. https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/hammerhead-kot49h-factory-02006b99.tgz
And I've never undervolted before. I could root and perhaps increase the clock speed. Also not running ART. I did a few months ago, but switched back.

Well aside from rooting, best you can do is force stop all those apps, particularly the ones that are crashing specifically, then clear those caches from the menu. After you've done all your problem apps, reboot.
If he did a full wipe and installed a fresh stock image....caches aren't the issue. Its probably one app wreaking havoc. Lol
