Well, I'm sure this topic has be chewed thousands of times and then chewed again a thousand times more...
So I apologize for that in advance.
But I'm looking for a ROM for my OPO that I will settle with. And the Kernel which works best with it.
I was originally on CM11s (stock) and then tried a lot of different ones during the last few months. I'm currently running MAHDI ROM because it gave me a lot of features which have been interesting enough at the beginning but which I realistically don't need anymore. At least not most of them. And the main reason I don't wanna stay with MAHDI is the amount of crashes I'm having lately with almost any app I'm using including 'Contacts' which crashes often when I just answer the phone call. The phone restarts on it's own, volume bars are all messed up etc. So to sum up, I want to change.
Oxygen OS is not the one I'd like due to the lack of features. I don't need much features that MAHDI offers but I still need some which Oxygen OS does not provide. At all.
I'm planning to change to CM12 (official) and stay there. However, I've heard plenty of bad reviews regarding stability issues, battery extensive drain and some others. How legit are all those reviews? Is it all facts or it's selective like most of the issues users report? Mentioning CM12, I've heard that certain Kernels fix most of the issues, especially the stability ones and the battery drain issue. Please note that battery is quite important to me. I was quite happy with CM11s, not so much with MAHDI but then again, it's not awful. Which kernel works best with CM12 regarding stability and battery life?
Or there are better ROMs than CM12 regarding stability and battery life while not lacking in features?
Again, I know there have been plenty of topics and posts about it but I'd like some help here as I can't dig through thousands of topics and millions of posts to find the proper answer I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance.
There's a ROM review thread here:

My personal favourite is Exodus though. The only reason I'm not on it right now is because it isn't at 5.1 yet (although they say the update is coming in the next days). You don't need a custom kernel with Exodus, the stock kernel performs really well. It's packed full of great features, it's original development too which means it isn't just cherry-picked features. Plus there's a new feature being implemented called Morph that they say is going to be incredible.

Alright, thanks.
Then I'll wait for the 5.1 version of Exodus and try it out. Which is the best place/topic to follow in order to get notified when it comes out?

If I get the 5.0.2 version now... could I just update to the 5.1 version or I'll have to flash it again once it comes out?

You'll probably have to clean flash it.

Dear All, I've been using one of the very old ROMs from these forums, 4.3, can't even remember which one but it had the battery enhancements from the team here. It is finally dying, annoying no available space message in google play, google services not connecting to the internet...
I do not want to make this a contest or recommendation request post, I am just lost with all the ROMs I found on this forum. I would probably want to go for KK, I don't need Lollipop or experimental/less stable releases. What are you guys using? One of the toads, or reventechs? Without comparing with others, is the ROM you are using stable and/or more or less bug free?
Thanks to everyone and for all devs for their time and dedication!!!
I've tried some of the LL builds but ultimately rolled back to KK, specifically M11:
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=apexqtmo&type=snapshot
Nightlies are available, but I haven't heard about people's success with them (not that it doesn't exist or nightlies are broken) so I just stayed with M11. No problems here.
Thanks a lot. Any preference for m11 compared to omnitoad or raventech's or other roms?
I used the slim ROM by reventech, is the most stable and battery friendly ROM, and all works great

Hey Guiyoforward,
since i love one of our last good sliders and don't want these forums to die out i even made an account to answer you ;P I am one of those people that actually runs nightlies.
Currently i am running h ttp://download.cyanogenmod.org/get/jenkins/111456/cm-11-20150524-NIGHTLY-apexqtmo.zip
And as far as i could see nothing is broken or unusable. It can be a bit difficult to set up considering the GPS bug that sometimes occurs, but i haven't had majors problems so far.
Personally i like the cyanogenmod style and customizability and thats why i prefer it over other roms. Reventech is said to be more stable as already mentioned, although i can't confirm this. I wouldn't go for LL as of right now, since it doesn't completely work on the Relay. Any cm11 nightly (you can download atm) should be good and the stable releases are also fine if you want to be sure.
Hope this helps. Have fun

My wife's Relay recently died (I suspect the cable between the "screen" half and the "keyboard" half broke, since nothing on the "screen" half responded...audio, buttons, display), and I bought her a new one. On both, she's been running nightly (updated very month or so) CM11 builds + OpenGAPPs Stock. There's a number of annoying issues, but nothing major. Certainly no worse than the snapshots.
The only thing she seems to miss is the ability to control the notification LED. That was in some earlier builds, but got lost at some point. Otherwise, she doesn't really complain about anything being seriously broken - the phone runs for weeks at a time w/o issue. We usually only reboot it if the battery dies, or if I think it's been "too long" since we've updated CM builds.
Running 5/17 KK nightly. ROCK SOLID with 0 faults. Hasn't missed a beat since I installed it 2 months ago.
Is anyone still devving for this device? Commits are still being added from upstream to the regular CM builds but I'm guessing nothing device specific
I'm thinking about getting a new battery though, as my stock battery is tired and barely holds enough charge to get me through the day.
I never find myself too far from a charger so the battery life doesn't bother me as much
I've been running the 6/07 CM11 build on mine, and it's also been solid.
I'm running the 20150517 nightly, which I jumped for in order to get the FREAK fix. As far as I can tell, everything works except the GPS. There is a GPS fix, but it's a bit odd and intrusive to execute, and I've never gotten a round tuit, yet. I downloaded a newer nightly the other day, but haven't gotten to loading it yet, and at this rate may supersede it with a yet newer one.

So I have been using lineage for the last three weeks, and am seriously disappointed in the camera. Before flashing I was stock CyanogenOS.
I have yet to take a decent photo since upgrading to nougat. And once those shots hit Google photos, they look even worse.
I do know that you need the blobs for the camera to work well, and I see a couple of threads talking about the different blobs for the various roms. What I don't know is if I can get the blobs through a kernel or maybe another nougat rom. I get the feeling that I am SOL. If I can't... This guy is going back to sock.
I don't care about slomo. HDR. 60fps video etc. I just want to be able to take good shots, and decent vids.
If there are any tricks, or something that I need to flash, please feel free to elaborate in the comments below.
Thanks.
PS. I have also seen comparisons with Oxygen, Color, Cyanogen, etc. A pros and cons list per se. If I am going to have to roll back and put on something that is considered 'stock' on the OPO... Should I be going to Oxygen or Color? Cyanogen is pretty fluid, with little lag. I would want OOS or COS to be the same. Only thing worse than a crappy camera is a lag fest.

I've actually been looking for the exact same thing. I'm on stock COS but it's been random rebooting on me for a while now (must be getting old) and I've heard good things about the oos port for the One. Along with these kernel/blob suggestions, I think this is exactly what I need to give a fresh start to my tired old OPO. Thanks again!
Edit: how about bacon camera instead of cameranext? It's being updated still (using it even now on cos for things where I need manual focus).

I'm running LOS 14.1 and over on the thread for the Lightening Kernan they all said for LOS Rome we need to use Version V38... will using V56 have any adverse effects on the ROM at all? Hello, I tried to flash v56 on LOS 14.1 and all I got as a result was a non-booting phone. So I guess there's some incompatibility issue. Keep in mind that I'm a new bacon user so I'm not that experienced with the world of its mods etc, so I might as well have done something wrong. Anyway it's better to talk about this in that kernel's thread.
Using the lightening 54 or 56 whatever it was, had to install the kernel a second time before phone would boot. But have had some major annoyances. It reboots a couple times a day, it takes upwards of three or four secs from the time I hit the button for the screen to come on etc. Pics are pretty good though. Going to update to new 14.1 nightly and try things for another few days before I give up on it. Will probably move over to omni if things continue.

You know if I am being honest... the experience on stock CyanogenOS is the best. I guess COS is ColorOS so I should just shut up. But at the end of the day I ultimately feel like I am going to end up going back and fastboot flashing the original Cyanogen files and going back to stock. When it installs right, with no ones and zeros crossed, there is no better experience on the OPO. Not giving up yet, but the writing is for sure on the wall.

They said V38 if you are using cm camera. So I would guess if using OOS blobs, you need to use the other. I am going o post about my lag issues over there and see what is said, so maybe keep an eye on that thread for more info.
Edit: Nevermind. I thought about turning off 'prevent accidental wakeup' and things are working great so far. Now to figure out the rebooting issues. Hopefully today's LOS update will fix.
I've been keeping my eye on that thread. Only reason I posted in here asking is because of the post suggesting to flash Lightening v56, OOS Blobs, and CameraNext. I thought someone running LOS had to have done this and had some feedback. I followed the steps last night and the camera is looking much better but the phone seems to be running warmer. I'm gonna give it a few days and see how it settles.

Not having warmer issues at all on this end. I will say this though... keep an eye on your battery drainage when phone is not in use. ie. in doze mode. You might need to flash a different modem. One thing I have also noticed on 14.1 is I rarely have signal, on any modem, until I turn wifi off. Probably a battery saving/nougat thing, but still kinda weird. The 01/25/2016 c7 modem works best for me as far as drainage is concerned. I wouldn't flash new modem firmware unless standby drainage is an issue. I originally did it because I had no data at all, and new modem didn't fix it anyways.
Hello everyone.
I own the Surya Version of the X3 NFC for over 6months now. I am not satisfied with stock MIUI 12.0.8 and I am searching for a better ROM. Before writing what kind of ROM I am looking for, I ll write down some things about the past.
I was using for 3 years the Xiaomi Mi A1 using Pixel Experience custom rom and found to be the best overall for my needs. I tried also some clean AOSP Android Ones which were faster but had serious bugs. So Pixel Experience on my past Xiaomi mobile device was very balanced overall and was happy with it.
I see there is a thread for PE and PE plus for our X3 and I am reading these days the thread carefully.
What I am looking from a rom:
Less possible bugs,
Compatibility with security apps for banking financial purposes, authorization etc.
Lightweight in resources.
The cleaner the better for me. I am experienced and I can install everything myself including Magisk modules and stuff. I will stick with stock kernel or change to another one only if there is proof to be bug free and not messing with the device performance-compatibility-battery life.
Best camera app is a must but I am sure I will find a better one (google cam) than the stock I have right now. (feel free to make suggestions)
Right now I just made the Mi account and I am waiting the 168hours for the unlocking. So no hurry to find the best answers. I have 1 week to decide.
Do I flash the PE, PE plus or another rom?
Thanks so much for any opinions
Having had my Poco X3 since launch, I have now tried Xiaomi.eu (stock based), ArrowOS and am currently on Resurrection Remix,(v8.6.9, A10 based), and I'd advise you to stick to what you know best (the Pixel variants, some of which are quite well regarded) but also to not get your hopes very high.
From reading the forums for as much as long, my opinion is although the hardware specs are great, no custom ROM is completely without issues -- or maybe I'm just spoiled from past experiences, where I had no troubles worth mentioning setting up and using them as daily drivers.
Cameras on this device, for instance, are by itself a whole field of research.
If simplicity is what you seek, than most folks here will point you towards ArrowOS or LineageOS.
Thanks for the answer my friend. I am also reading the ArrowOS thread since I started searching for alternatives.
What would you think about ArrowOS disadvantages from the time you used it? Stock kernel or something else?
@pnin
From my usage, I had trouble setting up some rather basic options but, as it was a while ago, I don't have too clear a recollection.
Afterwards, ArrowOS switched to A11 firmware first and then an OSS vendor, which resulted in a seemingly never ending stream of complaints about upgrades, lack of features and degraded performance -- myself, I never experienced this because I had already moved on.
The migration to OSS vendor happened 2-4 years earlier than necessary, thats what (issues) you get when you do not wait for xiaomi to fix the issues and you try to fix them yourself.
I am still on the last non-OSS build cause of that untill they fix all the issues

The ones reported on the ArrowOS thread.
Some users report worse performance and some issues here and there.
Also they seem to discontinue smart charging cause of an issue with it.
Personally i am on the latest non-OSS build cause:
A) i do not wish to format the phone and start from scratch again.
B) above reported issues.

Thanks for chipping in thorin0815. Yes I have seen a few "How to" articles but can't seem to find a really good description of how well it runs and what the pros and cons might be. Do you have any idea of how close to the pure Android experience it would be and if there are any major pitfalls or disappointments that have been reported? The phone I have came with an unbelievable 2 year warranty and I am reluctant to flash a system that I might regret at a later date.

If you will use Google Play Store, Google Calendar, Google Pay, or Google Apps, then LineageOS will need some adjustments and modifications to let those Google Apps services work properly. And possibly some banking apps may not work.
Whether each ROM pros and cons are, it is subjective. For example, customizations, for some people it's useless, while some people wants more customizations.
Try and error, flash a ROM and feel if that ROM fits your need. You know what you need, we don't know.
Most users starts with ArrowOS.
Pixel ROMs UI looks like Pixel phones.
LineageOS is completely open source.
I don't know other ROMs.
Read each ROM thread for each features, and possibly read some recent replies for update informations.
