Question Is it possible to flash stock Android to the POCO X3 Pro? - Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro

I'm coming from a Mi A3 running stock Android 11 which I love.
The screen on the X3 Pro is a delight to behold for my poor old eyes but there are a few things that either I don't like in the MiUI or just aren't working properly. Is there any way to flash stock Android 11 on this phone?

You could take a look at LineageOS, it's pretty much the purest custom rom out there.

Oops, I guess that we can't delete a post!

Thanks for chipping in thorin0815. Yes I have seen a few "How to" articles but can't seem to find a really good description of how well it runs and what the pros and cons might be. Do you have any idea of how close to the pure Android experience it would be and if there are any major pitfalls or disappointments that have been reported? The phone I have came with an unbelievable 2 year warranty and I am reluctant to flash a system that I might regret at a later date.

If you will use Google Play Store, Google Calendar, Google Pay, or Google Apps, then LineageOS will need some adjustments and modifications to let those Google Apps services work properly. And possibly some banking apps may not work.
Whether each ROM pros and cons are, it is subjective. For example, customizations, for some people it's useless, while some people wants more customizations.
Try and error, flash a ROM and feel if that ROM fits your need. You know what you need, we don't know.
Most users starts with ArrowOS.
Pixel ROMs UI looks like Pixel phones.
LineageOS is completely open source.
I don't know other ROMs.
Read each ROM thread for each features, and possibly read some recent replies for update informations.

Xiaomi MI - Flashing, Rooting and Xposed

Hello XDA,
I have some questions for you which I would appreciate the utmost if you could answer and explain them to me!
So, I am a OnePlus Two owner and have been for the past year an unconditional OnePlus fan and of course, client. However, I have been told Xiaomi MI’s line is quite solid and the reason I don’t hear much fuss about it is because I live in Portugal and as far as I have understood, Xiaomi is just focusing on their Big Chinese market and leaving the international markets without their influence, yet.
However, as an Android big big enthusiast, I have been in the ROM and in the Root indispensable world and I am just loving it.
Getting quicker to the point, I am really excited about the Xiaomi Mi5 launch and about it’s possible chip, Snapdragon 820, that was announced today! What a flaming dragon it is!
I really didn’t know anything special about Xiaomi as a company so I went to a store here in Portugal’s capital, Lisbon, which sells some of their products and asked some questions about it. I was impressed on how well he talked about the overall quality regarding their products.
I am considering buying one if it meets the Flagship real “killer” specs it is rumoured to have. However, after watching and reading some reviews about it, I am just not happy about their too Chinese and Apple-like UI, MIUI. Not even a launcher could save that awful UI (sorry for those of you who like it, I really respect it)!
So here are the questions that I would really really love to see clarified as there is some lack of information on the internet about it (with OnePlus there’s no chance I would need to create a thread asking questions like the ones I’m asking you below):
1. Can I flash CyanogenMod in a MI’s Smartphone? I know the answer is Yes! However, how and why does it differentiate from the process for example, with the flashing on a OnePlus device?
2. From the question above I ask specifically: Before flashing via fastboot TWRP, how come don’t I need to unlock the bootloader? What am I missing?
3. After being able to install CyanogenMod in my Xiaomi, can I install Xposed? Could it be Rovo89’s official 64 bit Xposed ? Or another one? (This because I know xposed with MIUI has to be something special, but I’m asking, after installing CM)
4. How is the rooting process? From what I've seen in multiple threads, No SuperSU is needed. How come? How will I give root permissions for each app the way I'm used to without SuperSU? (everywhere it says you need only to go to dev options and activate the option:" Root Access: Just apps").
5. If I manage to do both things above, will I have, let’s say, an experience like the one I have with my Oneplus device with a smartphone with better specs (Xiaomi MI5) ? Or I will have some problems in terms of compatibility?
Thank you for your time reading this. I would really appreciate if someone could answer me all of the questions, and if you happen to know just one or two, just put the number of the question and answer please.
Thank you once again and have a good day

1)If there is official/unofficial CM support for a certain "mi" device like the mi3 or the mi4 then you'll most likely be able to flash it like any other custom roms. And I am pretty sure there will be CM support(official or unofficial) for the upcoming Mi5.*
2)I am not sure if MI devices come with unlocked bootloader, but I was able to flash twrp by booting into the bootloader and then flashing the recovery through fastboot commands. So I assume it's unlocked by default.
3)For Miui there's a modified xposed called "wsm" tools. Though you can run xposed fine as well. (From my experience) And if you flash CM then you'll be able to use the xposed version that is working for that CM rom.*
4)Well there are two versions of Miui rom. Stable and Developer version. The developer version comes pre rooted and can give root permission to apps from the security app. Though you'll be able to flash SuperSU as well through twrp and SuperSU is actually more easier to use in my experience.
5)You mean flashing CM and using Xposed? That's actually uncertain. Compatibility issues such as crappy camera or poor sound quality might arise. You can't be sure about that.*

Thanks mate! I am more clarified now. So, I should stay in OnePlus right? I would only go to Xiaomi if I had the same easy and accessible flashing process with the Xiaomi as I have with the OnePlus 2.. I mean, the afterstory. I really want stock Android and for that the best will be CM13 at the time probably, doesn't matter, could be CM12 too. But if doing it may encounter me some major bugs I think it's not worth the hassle of selling my phone to by another one for now.
As I have said, it's uncertain. You may or may not face serious bugs. And stock camera almost always performs better than a custom Rom. But sooner or later, a stable version or one with the least amount of bugs will be released. For example some of the custom Rom solution for the Mi4 are rock stable now and they're all aosp based.

Custom Oreo roms?

Is there a technical reason that we have not seen any Custom Oreo roms released yet. I figured between all the RC releases of oreo leading up to the final build that the most popular roms (Pure Nexus, Resurrection Rom.. etc...) would have released 8.0 versions by now. Is it just too soon and unrealistic to expect that yet.. or an actual limitation in Oreo that is preventing builds? fyi.. im not like demanding one .. just curious on a technical level.

From my understanding, most devs don't work on betas but wait until a final build is published and this was supposedly a significant update to Android. Perhaps there's a lot to do to handle the project treble changes. XDA published an interesting article about it just today.
The pixel doesn't seem to be the super popular development device many expected it to be but I'm sure the Oreo builds will come soon enough.
Just from my point of view, finding the various aspects for my themes was a pain in the butt from N to O. Somethings that were once png are now vector images and that is just from a themers aspect,,,rom building is a whole other thing. I am sure there will be some soon.
I was thinking the exact same thing as OP. I hope this isn't the case for the Pixel 2 XL. My Nexus 6 is running a custom Oreo ROM and it's great so far. It's like a ghost town.
Hey guys, im currently using Pure nexus, i thought of waiting for the oreo version of pure nexus. But it seems like its gonna take a while.. So, shall i switch to official oreo or to wait for any custom rom?
How is battery life and performance in Oreo?.
Thanks in advance
Oreo appears buggy...
I will wait for Pure Nexus Oreo

I'm not going to say switch to Oreo, but for me it's been pretty stable. It's no RR or PA by a long shot. Battery life seems ok, and comparable to
other nougot roms I've ran. Performance is comparable as well. I'm no gamer, so can't report on heavy usage, but I've had no issues with
my standard apps, youtube, slack, twitter etc..
I guess the only thing I'm real annoyed at is if you want to get into TWRP, you have to reboot to bootloader, and fastboot boot twrp.img. I don't know the
status of flashing twrp, but the fastboot method works well.
Rooted with SuperSU, and substratum working nicely. I can't stand the default navbar height, so installed the mod from "[MODS] Pixel OREO Aroma Mods Installer" and lowed my navbar to 42dpi, and am now content.
Now, once a Oreo custom mod like RR/PA is released (Haven't tried Pure Nexus) I'm switching.

I was just about to ask about the "State of Development" on the Pixel because I have been curious as to the lack of active development for Mods and ROMs. Hell my Wife's old Samsung Galaxy S4 still gets more development.
Could the A\B partitioning be a big factor in this?
I thought the Pixel would receive the same reaction like th Galaxy line and Google is a recognizable just like Samsung

The new official flashable TWRP is out and compatible with pixel Oreo.
yeah, I would give "O" a little time. It appears that some are starting to have a few issues with phones being bricked. It's possible that one of the 3 is not related, but certainly my advice would be to wait folks. This could be related directly to branded phones, but not exactly sure and would only be speculation at this point. It's possible the DEV's are waiting on a few areas...

The dual partition s is the reason. It makes developing roms a real pain. Developers have now added a dual partition setup to the list of things to avoid when getting devices.

Haha, not quite.
Recently got a pixel after years of sony phones and am awaiting some Oreo custom roms. It's great I'm getting the latest OS updates straight away but the downside I guess is the newness means custom roms take longer. Now there's a working TWRP I'm hopeful we'll start to see custom Oreo roms appearing.

citation, please?
that seems a bit silly, because A/B partitions are the new standard. it won't just be Google phones using it... plus, there are non stock ROMs that have made the jump to A/B.... lots of app devs have too....
Frankly, while it may add some complexity, it is far better for upgrades over OTA and makes total sense that it would be the next iteration for rolling out upgrades.

It is the standard for Google device. Notice how only Google devices use it?
They are great if you stay stock. But not for rom development. As for your citation, you would have to talk to developers about it.
It is coming to the point that people will have to choice. Ota updates from Google or custom roms. Not gonna get both
A/b partition will be like many things gs that Google added that oem remove. Like adaptable storage.

Motorola has been testing it, including a device that utilizes it now. Same goes with Xaoimi... Furthermore, a/b partition is a part of AOSP... Oreo devices going forward will be making use of Project Treble and I suspect in the next year, you are going to see more vendors adopting the new partition scheme.
On top of that, all new mediatek and Qualcomm SOCs will support A/b partition schemes.

Um, no. it's perfectly reasonable for an end use running a custom ROM to want/expect OTA upgrades that uses seamless updating, where supported.... I've been involved in ROM development, in the past. thanks.... for someone developing a ROM; ya, you will be flashing your custom builds, but for an end user not building from AOSP, lineageOS repositories; OTA is far bore reasonable...

We will see, but given that Qualcomm and mediatek will be supporting it going forward and the revelations and direction of Project treble && VTS; I suspect that a/b partitions will become the norm...
the only question is what will Samsung do for future devices, since they unlike most vendors produce their own SOCs/Exynos boards.... I guess we will see when the next galaxy line is released.

I need a custom rom built. Any takers?

Feel free to delete if this isn't allowed here, I feel that this thread is mostly dead anyhow with Oreo officially released.
I have a Verizon Pixel with an unlocked bootloader. Currently on the latest PureNexus. I want to try something a little different. I want to try a new rom with a few mods. I really want THE BARE MINIMUM Latest Nougat AOSP installed and running for optimum battery life. There are only a handful of apps that I really need, and I'd sideload them. I'd like to leave gapps out, Ya, I know, no play store, I can use F-droid and apkmirror, and something like Hermit for gmail/google calendar. I'd only need a few minimal modifications, the only one I'd really like is "Battery Circle" option, but I'd take the normal PA or PN settings option. No PIE. I'd like EX kernel to underclock a bit, and see what it all looks like performance and battery wise. Fingerprint unlock is essential. Is this something someone here can help with? If you are interested, reply below. There has to be someone else that's interested in this as well. I can't be the only one. Maybe just a rom built from PN sources w/o gapps?
*Disclaimer, I'm comfortable in ADB and flashing roms/TWRP.
I'd like Root and Xposed, for things like systemwide adblock. Yes, I know that Android Pay won't work with no gapps installed, I'm really trying to simplify here.
Your thoughts?
This should be in the questions and discussion thread above, not this thread, this is for already developed roms kernels.ect probably have better luck in the correct thread, though build roms for pixel abd pixel with the A/B partions is a royal pain in the ass from what I've read so I doubt anyone is going to developed a room for one person, but I wish you luck

Depends on what you're after since all of them are different in their own way. Some of them offer a lot of customization than others but mostly it's up to your taste.
My advice is ArrowOS, it's stable, fast, has customization (tho not a lot) and it's Google certified so it's legit for banking apps and NFC payments.

Can u tell me what are the characteristic of each rom?
The best strengths of each rom?
I doubt someone can make such a comparison, the is so many ROMs.
It depends what everyone is looking for.
Yepi69 prefers ArrowOs (which I haven't tested because I don't like paying for the complete ROM options) and I like ROMs that mimics Google Pixel.
There are caveats for each ROM.
IMHO you should compare what ROM mainteners say in their post presenting their ROM and the people reactions (reading topics is long but it worth the time reading them) and select the one that appeals you and test it for a few days. If you're satisfied keep it, if not change it.
Just remember that only Xiaomi.eu ROM is 100% compatible with original ROM and all functions of it because it's (to be simple) the original ROM with tweaks.
And also that most of ROMs may have problems with payment apps (but solutions can be provided for some) and to fully use the different cameras of X3 (there is some solutions with ANXcamera and Google camera ports but none, so far, is as complete as the original one).
Last thing to take into account is how frequent are the updates and which Android patch is included.
Some are often updated with corrections and Android patches while some don't.
I always prefer the ones with the latest security patches (and official ROM and therefore Xioami.eu are not updated with every monthly security Android patches).

My bad... I confused with another rom...
Well it all depends on original rom source. Most of the rom devs use same-ish device trees so what you get differently depends on the rom's source like resurrectionos features, arrowos features...
Some may look the same some may not like ancient, revengeos, dotos etc. You can compare them in youtube videos. That is how i would decide to use which i would like.

Question Plan to get a new Pixel 7 Pro

Hi all
I plan to get a Pixel 7 Pro pretty soon.
Decided to go for it as the added telephoto lens could be useful even if I don't take photos much. How has the camera been in your expereince?
I also plan to use custom ROM on it. Have any suggestions for those? I may want to use Google Pay with it. Graphine does seem nice for the privacy angle though
P7P has one of the best cameras on the market no doubt.
Stock firmware is missing nothing, for anything else there is aosp mods.
I dont know of any custom rom that will not let you use gpay.
I dont like the battery drain of the p7p but i dont know any phone where i like it tbh.

Yeah I always wondered why one would use a custom ROM on the best android phone in the world when it comes to software pixel exclusives.
I've stated this many times but using other devices I needed root and custom ROMs to keep the device going past the original manufacturer life cycle, in these days a new phone comes out every 9 months.
Pixel/Nexus/Samsung/Google keeps the devices software updated at least 3 years.
Security is priority for me should be for everyone..
Lastly, I want to root just to install a custom kernel but always running stock android on Pixels.
I haven't seen or heard any one say a custom ROM ran better in three years than stock pixel.
After Google drops support then custom ROMs are needed imo...

Stock is fine, those features I referred to are not in stock though. You can root and use AOSPmods or something to get features, but I feel a custom rom with the features you want integrated is always the better choice. There is a thread about custom roms you could take a look at.
Mint has a deal for the 7pro. $689, 12 month service with 6 months free. I saw somewhere when researching about a Japan version being received by some ppl. I am on T-Mobile and tested mint on my tablet. No difference or issues I could see. Just a bit concerned with the model they have. Looking around I didn't see anyone else this low. I can do the mint deal @ $58 a month, get a Pixel phone and come out cheaper cause T-Mobile is $70 a month. really a no brainier, and I have wanted a Pixel phone for last 2 phones but couldn't handle the price. So anyone have an issue w getting a foreign model and mint mobile?
