Help with ROM/Kernel - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I'm sure this topic has be chewed thousands of times and then chewed again a thousand times more...
So I apologize for that in advance.
But I'm looking for a ROM for my OPO that I will settle with. And the Kernel which works best with it.
I was originally on CM11s (stock) and then tried a lot of different ones during the last few months. I'm currently running MAHDI ROM because it gave me a lot of features which have been interesting enough at the beginning but which I realistically don't need anymore. At least not most of them. And the main reason I don't wanna stay with MAHDI is the amount of crashes I'm having lately with almost any app I'm using including 'Contacts' which crashes often when I just answer the phone call. The phone restarts on it's own, volume bars are all messed up etc. So to sum up, I want to change.
Oxygen OS is not the one I'd like due to the lack of features. I don't need much features that MAHDI offers but I still need some which Oxygen OS does not provide. At all.
I'm planning to change to CM12 (official) and stay there. However, I've heard plenty of bad reviews regarding stability issues, battery extensive drain and some others. How legit are all those reviews? Is it all facts or it's selective like most of the issues users report? Mentioning CM12, I've heard that certain Kernels fix most of the issues, especially the stability ones and the battery drain issue. Please note that battery is quite important to me. I was quite happy with CM11s, not so much with MAHDI but then again, it's not awful. Which kernel works best with CM12 regarding stability and battery life?
Or there are better ROMs than CM12 regarding stability and battery life while not lacking in features?
Again, I know there have been plenty of topics and posts about it but I'd like some help here as I can't dig through thousands of topics and millions of posts to find the proper answer I'm looking for.
Thanks in advance.

There's a ROM review thread here:

My personal favourite is Exodus though. The only reason I'm not on it right now is because it isn't at 5.1 yet (although they say the update is coming in the next days). You don't need a custom kernel with Exodus, the stock kernel performs really well. It's packed full of great features, it's original development too which means it isn't just cherry-picked features. Plus there's a new feature being implemented called Morph that they say is going to be incredible.

Alright, thanks.
Then I'll wait for the 5.1 version of Exodus and try it out. Which is the best place/topic to follow in order to get notified when it comes out?

If I get the 5.0.2 version now... could I just update to the 5.1 version or I'll have to flash it again once it comes out?

You'll probably have to clean flash it.

I guess I'll wait for the 5.1 version then.

[Q] Best *Stable Lolipop ROM for OnePlusOne?

Hello!
So I just got my brand new One plus one today :good:. I wanted to install Lollipop on it, and yes I know its still in mostly alpha development at this moment. However, can anyone recommend me what in thier opinion is the best and most stable lollipop ROM for the One plus one? I'm mostly looking for stability. (and mediocre battery life)
Thanks in advance! :highfive:

If your OPO is new i wont recommend you doing anything for atleast 2 weeks!
Till that time Alpha builts will progress to beta builds hopefully
use CM11s Its actually quite awesome!
Play with camera you'll love it...
CM12 has bad camera for now! :{
There is no best stable lollipop rom, they all build from the same source and is more or less identical with very minor insignificant changes.
I personally like the latest liquidsmooth 4.0 build.
Sent from my One A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
Best stable Lollipop Alfa for One+ One is for me the Temasek-Build.
There's no such thing as a best ROM anyway. You'll get a million different people with a million different opinions, which makes asking this question completely pointless because you're left having to flash and find out, which is what you should be doing in the first place.

[Q] Am I the last Kit Kat flasher?

Since Lollipop has come out I have supported it in various ways. I have flashed the roms since the beginning, have donated funds to the cause, and have sacrificed my time and phone to help solidify LP on our OPO's, but I still love Kit Kat.
Am I the only one that still flashes kit kat builds? I actually still prefer them over LP because of the stability, the themes, the ease of use because of being what you would call comfortable with it, and I like that I don't have to worry about flashing the wrong thing and bricking my phone.
I don't know. Maybe I'm behind the times, or maybe I just am not ready to move on.
But, my question is; do you still enjoy KK roms? Do you still flash them? For me, yes, I am running Vanir's last KK build from 11/24/14 and it has been extremely stable for me.
Just curious if there are still some old school KK users out there...
P.S. please don't take this thread wrong. In no way am I putting down or in any way being negative on LP. I love LP also. That's why I explained myself in the beginning. I appreciate all who work hard for our OPO's and believe me I do what I can and give when I can. I love to donate and will continue to do so. This is just a little innocent thought of mine.
I'm still running KitKat, I'm running the last KitKat build of Nameless. Lollipop isn't stable enough, has too many bugs, doesn't have any of the features I require. I run LP on my second phone (HTC One XL) but I rarely use that. Once CM12S comes out I'll try it on my OPO.

I'm sure glad to hear that, especially coming from you. And I personally want to thank you for all of the work you put in on this forum. You really make it easy in the noob and those just trying to search. I highly appreciate your work!
Yes, I agree with you're statement also. I actually had recently sold my opo and got a nexus 6 but I really missed my opo quickly and after a week I ordered another opo.lol! I missed the ROMs, the ease of use, and the community here. And I, personally really enjoy the opo more.
Thanks for your input!

Battery. Kit kat or Lollipop?

I have received my 1+1 a couple of days ago. Straight away I realised the poor battery life. Well, by poor I mean comparing it to some people and how they praise it.
I have flashed Lollipop but I totally hated the Ui - it seemed so small (status bar) I think it was the slim kat ROM. Battery life still wasn't phenomenal. Using both, stock cm11s and few Lollipop custom roms I came to a conclusion that right now, there is not even a single STABLE ROM. By stable i mean no FCs and decent battery life. I surely can't be right, don't know if my phone is faulty or if I'm doing something wrong. I also came across different versions of CM11s? Something like 44s or something like that. Could someone explain it to me since I can't find the answer anywhere to what it's referring to? Also apparently one version is "better" than the other? Here are my questions relating to my problems. As of today, what is the most stable ROM for our fantastic device? Be it kit kat or Lollipop (though I prefer kit kat) What is the difference between cyanogenmod 11s and cyanogenmod 11? Am I better off (stability and battery wise) flashing cm12 nightlies or stay on stock 11s? I will add that i have searched and browsed through the forum for answers but I simply couldn't find anything either specific enough or simple to understand. I know that I should be trying all the ROMs by myself but it would take me forever to decide which one is the best for me. Many of you guys have tried most if not all of them and can give me a feedback I hope which I appreciate very much. Thanks for your time.

I have tried BlissPop, but basically came up to same conclusions as you, battery life was worse than stock, and the UI still feels a little quirky. Switched back to stock. I believe the most stable ROM would be the current stock CM 11S:

Slim ROM has a smaller status bar because it uses a lower DPI, therefore fitting more onto the display at once. Anyway, I run Vanir-Exodus and my battery life is fantastic.

Cyanogen worked with OnePlus to release a dedicated version for OnePlus One (CM11S)
I believe Cyanogen released themselves Cyanogemod 11 that is compatible with OnePlus One (CM11). Im not 100% sure.
There are slight differences between them.
There wont be a CM12S. It will be released simply as CM12 and be compatible with the OnePlus One.
In theory, CM11S should be the most stable. The source is available: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_device_oneplus_bacon

Is it stable though? I am back on stock and can't really complain other than battery life everything else seems fine. Funny thing : I'm not even using LTE! :/

What are you talking about? Firstly, CM11 and CM11S are the same ROM except for a couple of proprietary apps. Secondly, there is going to be CM12S, it's being released later this month.

What about it confuses you? 44S is a build build number of CM11S, they were released like this: 22R > 25R > 30O > 33R > 38S > 44S > 05Q

Wait; How can you say they are the same ROM and then say "except for a couple of proprietary apps"? That automatically means its not the same ROM :S
Here is the thing CM11 started to roll out around end of 2013. CM11S is based on a CM11 that was released in April 2014. There are fixes, proprietary apps, etc. you mentioned. CM11, at the end of 2013, was released for all devices at the same time and the code is exactly the same. It isnt exactly the same as CM11s

I really have my doubts on that. I know that was announced but....I think its gonna be CyanogenMod 12 period, released for S5, M8, etc........and OnePlus One (bacon). I dont think they are going to make another specialized for OnePlus One (unless of course there is a legal obligation, and even so, I wont trust it too much)
Oh cheers. I've read that say 05q has a terrible battery life, where as 44s is best of them all. The part that confused me was that I didn't know it was referring to cm11s. Thanks for clearing that out.

You're splitting hairs there. Apps don't make a ROM. The real difference between CM11S and CM11 is that the nightlies (CM11) are ahead in terms of commits (and therefore possibly bugs). CM11S is the "stable" version of CM11, much like a milestone release. Only the first build of CM11S (22R) was based on the CM11 of April 2014. Each successive build of CM11S is based on the state of CM11 nightlies (commits etc) at the time of release of each CM11S build. They are the same ROM. This is a well known fact.
You can have your doubts all you like but it's pure speculation, and it isn't actually based on any facts or verified information. It's just false information spread by baseless rumours. CM12S is currently in the process of being authorized by Google to be released officially. This information is all readily available if you keep up with the information being provided by CM.
battery life
Stick to CM11. I used to get 3.5hr of screen time.
Now that I switched to CM12 nightlies 20150316, I'm down to 2.5hrs of screen time, so 2 full days vs 1.5 days now.
I think 12S will be similar to 11S
CM + extra apps like camera, maxxaudio + hardware specific optimizations like touchscreen, bionic (if that still exists on art)
See Battery in settings to see which app is draining battery
If you havn't already checked which apps are hogging your battery then go over to Settings-->Battery
and then see the apps which are draining your battery.
If Google Play Services is occupying the no.1 spot thne Enable Privacy Guard for it and disable the option for Keep Awake and Wake Up by it.
You can find this in Settings-->Privacy
Another fix is that you disable Gestures(all 3) and also disable 'Wake on double tap'.

Cyanogenmod 13 or Cataclysm

Hi all,
Ever since CM has been available for my devices, I have been using CM. Tried many other roms, but never really anything that I felt so comfortable with as CM.
Now that CM13 CAF has stopped development ( @myfluxi, you magnificent bastard! You created a great ROM!) I will probably stay on this one for a while but at a certain point move on.
So I started to look into Cataclysm a bit. Any ex-CM users here that went to Cataclysm and never looked back? Or the other way around?
Why exactly?
Please keep it civil, no fanboys or flamewars.
Why don't you try Cataclysm then make your own decision.

Because of my banking application, every time I try a new ROM (thus factory reset), I have to go back to my bank outside of my office hours, wait in line for forever and have the app reactivated.
So am I a bit reluctant to just switch to see if I like it. Was hoping for some replies from people that switched from one to the other and never went back.

i rarely had any issues with Cataclysm. Very stable and smooth rom indeed. Dosent have theme engine though. I Also have been using Chroma and its been great for me. Many CM features inside it. I read somewher that CAFHammerhead will be still going. A different maintainer has stepped up

Yes, but I'm not interested in other roms other than giving Cataclysm a try. So I'll leave that up to others.
Anything else to add to the topic, or just here to live up to your signature?
I would go for Cataclysm over CM13 as Cataclysm feels more stable & smooth compared to CM13.
CM13 sometimes feels unstable as it is in nightly stage.
Surely the opinion might change when CM13 Stable will be available.
Don't get me wrong.
But CM has its own advantages.
I personally dislike CM because the performance has been worse thay it used to be, and idk why. I would prefer Cataclysm over CM and Chroma over Cataclysm, because the performance in Chroma is just great! I also use the elementalx kernel and limit my cpu to 2.0 ghz for battery. So Cataclysm is much more stable than CM, as CM has alot of problems with systemui right now, and with Cataclysm, you wont have an annoying 'Edit Tiles' button in your quick settings.

Tried it (went to Catcalysm and loved it!) but the backup didn't work.
It brings me to the login page, type my pin and it just doesn't respond. So for this banking app it didn't work, sadly enough
Both the same?

Battery life for me went from barely being able to get through a working day on CM13 to getting home with 40 or sometimes even 50%+ battery on Cataclysm with EX kernel.
So battery was a huge improvement for me, which is what I needed.
Why is cataclysm thread closed? Did I miss something?
Thread is closed at the request of the dev/OP, atl4ntis.
But why without warning? I like catalysm mod and all it extra settings. I hope someone make same mod in the future, when new android version come out.

Anyone using lineage 14.1?

I used to be huge into XDA and loved getting involved with the community. I started all the way back on a Samsung Vibrant. After being so busy with life and all I kinda fell out of it but saw Lineage OS and wanted to get into it again. After looking at the device list I picked up the H830 and got to rooting but looking at the community here, it doesn't seem like many members are trying it out. If you are can I get some of your feedback on it? I tried to flash once but got stuck in the bootloop so I hope to get it soon. Any advice would be much appreciated.

You won't see much on T-Mobile threads as all the ROMs and even kernels are pretty much posted in main g5 threads. As far as which ROM to use, I recommend RR (and I've tried all available ROMs for our device too), although it may or may not continue to get updated, will depend if me or someone else pick up doing builds, whereas Los will continue to be updated on a weekly basis but those are not tested before release and may end up in bootloops like you stated you had. If wanting to run LOS and you end up in bootloops with latest build, I recommend downloading an earlier build and install that. Also, no matter what ROM based on lineageos you decide to use will have a couple issues. No NFC, some report issues with Bluetooth and some issues with camera (camera quality especially in low light isn't as good as stock, recently issues with saying videos). Hopefully this helps Any other questions feel free to ask.
